Hiding row and column labels

You can format a table so that it looks just like a form — e.g. give it a background color, shadow, etc. Looks very nice. However, whenever you click on a cell, the row and column the row and column labels suddenly appear, and the visual illusion of a form is lost. Is there any way to prevent the row and column labels from appearing short of locking the table which also mades it uneditable? If not, I think this would be a useful feature.

If not, I think this would be a useful feature.

Is there a way to parameterize text objects CrossTab in one single Crystal Report RPT file to use some sort of locale resource file containing text string for different languages based on the users of RPT at runtime? The idea is to use one single RPT file to generate report for different locale text for CrossTab Row and Column abels and grand total labels instead of creating RPT files per locale?

Does the database have a column that identifies the language? If it does, then you could create two separate cross-tabs and place them in different sections and conditionally suppress the section depending on the language from the database.
That's the only thing that can be done in my opinion.

Hiding row and column headings in excel

How do I head the row and column headings in excel in docs to go? I have a Q10 and there just isn't enough screen space to also have the letters across the top, and the numbers down the side. How do I get rid of them so I just have the actual spreadsheet itself?
Desktop excel does have this functionality.

Printing 1 Label in Row and Column Other Than Row 1, Column 1

I want to print 1 label and want to print it on Avery label stock in a row and column other than row 1, column 1. I'm using Avery Labels 8163. I can select the row and column I want to print on in Word but can't figure out how to do it in *Address Book*. Anyone know how to do this?

You can't do that in Addrress Book. But you can use pearLabelizer to do that. Be sure you download and install the appropriate Label Definition file and name it as such so you can select it from the pop-up list in the program's Preferences window.

Making no row or column labels the default

OK, I've read the many threads about how to turn them off and I do that all the time. But I'm lazy. I want the 'no cell labels' to be my default. How do I do that? There doesn't seem to be any way I can set it from my Epson RX620 so I have to do it either through the Apple preferences or Appleworks preferences and neither seem to offer this option.
All suggestions gratefully accepted. Thanks.
PS If there is no way to make them the default, then techs please take note - this is a user request for function to include in the next version.

You can do that through Options > Display, but if you want to have new spreadsheets start out showing no row and column headers as the default condition, then Roger's suggestion of creating a spreadsheet template is the route to go.
You can create a default template for any of AppleWorks's document types by the following method. (These instructions are specific to a spreadsheet document, but the procedure is similar for other types.)
Open a new (SS) document.
Use Format > Document to change the number of rows and columns if you want values different from AW's default 40 columns by 500 rows.
Use Options > Display to set row/ column headers off or on and the cell grid to solid, dotted or no lines.
Check other formatting options for values you want to change from their defaults.
When finished making changes to the default values, go File > Save as...
Name the file "AppleWorks SS Options" then click Template, then Save.
AppleWorks will save the document as a Template, and will place it in the templates folder. Any NEW spreadsheet document subsequently created using the spreadsheet button in the Button Bar, the button in Starting Points, or using File > New > Spreadsheet will adopt the values specified in this template document. Existing spreadsheets wil not be affected.
To set new defaults for other types of AW documents, follow a similar procedure, then same the template with the same "AppleWorks XX Options" name, substituting the two letter code for the type of documnet for the "XX" in the name.

Programmactic Access DataGrid Rows and Columns

Hello,
I am new to ActionScript. Can you tell me how can I access
the rows and columns of a data grid?
What I want to do is that when the application load, I will
populate the datagrid with the Xml returned from the webservice.
After that, webservice will be called periodically (using timer)
and the information in the datagrid needs to be updated. The cells
which are updated need to be highlighted.
The datagrid actually contains the stock market data (symbol
name and its other attributes). So once the datagrid has been
populated on application creation, it contains all the symbols in
the market. After that, only attributes of the symbols will change,
like price, volume etc. What I want is that once the datagrid is
populated, i can access the row by using the value of symbol code
and then update the appropriate columns of that symbol. (Xml from
next time will contain only symbols whose values change from last
time).

To achieve what you want, I would have two functions:
* One populates the DataGrid for the first time, i.e. the
inital load
* The other does the 'update' on each interval, since there's
logic required
To update the DataGrid with only the rows that have changed,
you're going to have to compare
the incoming XML to the existing XML in the dataProvider of
the DataGrid, then selectively update the dataProvider.
You can use the
getItemAt() and
setItemAt() methods of the data provider to check each row
against the incoming data. So, some example code:

Based on your description, you want Shipping Month to be shown on row label, and Order Months to be shown on the column label, right? When connecting to a data base on an Excel pivot table, if we want to the dimension appear on the row or column label, we
can drag the dimension to ROWS or COLUMNS. So in your scenario, if you have Shipping Month Order Months on your cube, you can drag it to ROWS or COLUMNS directly. Otherwise, I am afraid you need to create them on the cube.

Numbers can store pdfs pages or clippings but does not directly open pdf files. To get the bank statement into Numbers as a table I would open the bank statment in Preview (or Skim) or some pdf viewer.
Then hold the option key while selecting a column of data.
Then copy
Then switch to numbers and paste the column into a table
Then repeat for the other columns in the pdf document
It would be easier (in my opinion) to download the QFX or CSV version from your bank

How do I delete multiple rows and columns in an image?

I am looking into how digital SLRs extract video data from a CMOS sensor. To give an example, the GH1 from Panasonic can record video at 1920 x 1080 from a 12 MPixel sensor that, say, is 4000 horizontal x 3000 vertical. How they do that seems to be not in the public domain, but there have been a few guesses (see http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=206797 and http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38713).
One approach would be to simply read every second row of sensor pixels (1500 rows read from the original 3000) and once you have those in memory, delete every second column (2000 columns left). You would end up with a 2000 x 1500 image which could then be resampled to 1920 x 1080.
I'd like to simulate what the camera appears to be doing, by generating a 4000 x 3000 test image and then asking Photoshop CS4 to delete the appropriate rows and columns. It may not necessarily be every second row; the Canon 5DMk11 appears to read every third row, so I may need to delete two out of every three rows.
Can Photoshop do that sort of thing? If so, how?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I did take a detailed look at your images, but they weren't 100% convincing because it wasn't clear just what was happening. And Adobe's explanation, after reading it again, explains nothing at all to someone who doesn't know how Nearest Neighbor works.
But you are correct -- Nearest Neighbor does effectively delete pixels. I proved it with the attached 6 x 6 image of coloured pixels (the tiny midget image right after this full stop -- you'll have to go to maximum zoom in PS to see it).
These are the steps to delete every second row and then every second column.
1. Select Image > Image Size.
2. Set Pixel Dimensions > Height to half the original (in this case set to 3 pixels).
3. Set Resample Image to Nearest Neighbor.
4. Click OK and the image shoould now consist of three vertical white strips and three vertical Green-Red-Blue stripes.
5. Repeat steps 1-4, but this time set Pixel Dimensions > Width to half the original (in this case set to 3 pixels). The image should now consist of three horizontal stripes Green-Red-Blue.
Just to make sure the method worked for every third pixel, I repeated the above steps but with 2 pixels instead of 3 and obtained the correct White-Green, White-Green pattern.
I resampled the Height and Width separately for the test so that I could see what was happening. In a real example, the height and width can be changed at the same time in the one step, achieving the same results as above.
Finally, how to explain how Nearest Neighbor works in the simple cases described above?
Division by 2
In the case of an exact division by two (pixels numbered from top leftmost pixel), only the even numbered rows and columns remain. To put it a different way, every odd numbered row and column are deleted.
Division by 3
Only rows and columns 2, 5, 8, 11... remain.
Division by N
Only rows and columns 2, 2+N, 2+2N, 2+3N... remain.
To put it simply, a resample using Nearest Neighbor (using an exact integer multiple) keeps every Nth row and column, starting from number two. The rest are deleted.

Lock rows and columns header in a table view report. It is possible?

I have a Dashboard that displays a report in "Table View" with many rows and columns.
Is it possible to set a lock on the rows and columns like Excel?
This would have blocked such headers that contain attributes and measures and to browse the report (eg with a scroll bar) had always viewed the headers.

Is it possible to switch the rows and columns of a table? The reason I ask is that it would be easier for me to input the data with the number at the top of a column and the fields going down. But it would be easier to read the data with the number on the left and the fields going to the right. Is it possible to switch a table in this way?

It sounds to me as though you wish to transpose a table so that the original is changed from rows to columns and from columns to rows, as in the following:
Table 1
 A B C
========
1 o p q
2 r s t
3 u v w
Table 2
 A B C
========
1 o r u
2 p s v
3 q t w
You are right - it would be nice to have a menu item to magically transpose a selected block of cells. But there isn't one. So...
One way to solve this is to use the index() and transpose() functions to accomplish row and column cell transposition. If you are going to use a 1:1 cell correspondence and change the header columns and rows also, you can use this:
 =INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table # :: <range>),ROW(),COLUMN())
where Table # and <range> is substituted as in the following fashion:
 =INDEX(TRANSPOSE(Table 1 :: $A$1:$C$3),ROW(),COLUMN())
Create a second table. Copy the modified formula above with the appropriate substitutions, select the range you wish to have your transposition inserted into (must match the transposed cell dimensions of the original range), paste the forumula and voila! the cells will be transposed.
Cautions:
o The target table must match the swapped cell length and width dimension. For example, if the original data range is 6 columns wide by 4 rows deep, then the corresponding table or range to hold the transposition must be 4 columns wide by 6 rows deep.
o If your transposed data block is to be offset from the origin of the new table, then you will need to include a subtractive offset into your cell formula, since in the transpose() function the data in the master data range is referenced from its position with the master range, not its cell position in the table. Such an offset is necessary because this example formula uses the target row and column numbers to arrive at indexed positions.
For example, if the new data range is to be offset one column to the right and one row below from the target table's origin then you must subtract (-1) from the cell and from the column references in the formula:

Keeping row and column headers while scrolling inside a Web Dynpro table

Hi,
I have to display a 2x2 matrix with storage location names on the x-axis (i.e. as Column Headers) and material names on the y-axis (i.e. row headers). The table data represents the quantities of a particular material in a particular storage location.
I am using dynamic UI generation to create this table. It can contain as many as 150 columns and almost as many rows. I dont want a page level scrollbar, and hence, have placed my table inside a scroll container UI element with a fixed height and width.
I need a way to let the users use the scrollbars inside the scroll container, but still let them see the row and column headers. Is there a way that I can do this in Dynpro for Java?

Make Select rows and columns as read only in Table Control

Hi All,
I would like to know how to make certain cells in a Table Control as display only.
Table control should look like-(Those in bold are read only or in display mode)

(Blank row to enter name idno and address)

My table control should display all the above fields the way it is above of which first two colums and 4 rows should be read only,and the rest of the empty rows in the TC should be in change mode.i.e it must have provision to add new rows but not change the first two columns of existing rows.
In short I am looking at solution to hide particular no of rows and columns and not the entire column.

In the PBO of the table control loop. just write these statements
NAME and IDNO considering the fields on the screen.
and WA_TAB is the table work area being passed to the table control to display the rows.
if not WA_TAB-NAME is initial and not WA_TAB-IDNO is initial.
loop at screen.
if screen-name = 'NAME' or
 screen-name = 'IDNO'.
screen-input = 0.
modify screen.
endif.
endloop.
endif.
which means that the fields are disabled only if NAME and IDNO are not initial.
