High CPU Alert / notification
I have been trying to setup an alert or some kind of notification when CPU is high on 2008R2 and 2012 to no avail. Here are some I have tried.
http://www.sqlservergeeks.com/sql-server-real-time-monitoring-using-wmi-classes-part-3/
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/abf3040a-93ba-4889-a6e8-4f38459a1019/sql-2008r2-performance-condition-alert-for-cpu-threshold-event?forum=sqldatabaseengine
And a bunch of others not a single one works.

Plz check the following links to set up SQL Server Alert for high CPU
http://mssqldude.wordpress.com/2011/07/01/sql-server-alerts-for-cpu-utilization-alert/

And make sure your database mail is configured correctly.

Sent CPU/GPU plimit notification? High CPU
I've had a bunch of these errors showing up for a while now. Randomly my mac's CPU spikes, and it crawls to a slow halt.
I ran the hardware diagnostic tool, and it came up with an error which I believe is related to temperature 4SNS/1/00000 or something similar.
If i check the system console, I get the following messages every 15 seconds or so:
04/03/2014 15:15:41.000 kernel[0]: IOPPF: Sent cpu-plimit-notification last value 8 (rounded time weighted average 7)
04/03/2014 15:15:41.000 kernel[0]: IOPPF: Sent gpu-external-plimit-notification last value 0 (rounded time weighted average 0)
Do you think the two are related? I've tried googling the console messages, but i've not found a great deal.
Thanks.Hi Erik you are truely intelligent I have tried the method as you suggested and now the temperature of CPU and GPU came down to 45C and 56C at idle respectively. That is really a dramatc improvement thanks very much!!!

Tecra M2 - hard shutdown on high CPU (turns off with no BSOD)
Have been experiencing consistent shutdowns when CPU runs at full for a little while.
- by "shutdowns" I mean complete power cut with no blue screen of death where all is lost and the computer has to be manually restarted.
- by "high CPU" I mean when the processor locks at full usage such as when you insert a column into a large Excel sheet with errors or when you are RARing a large number of files and you open a video from the network or when you run a virus scan and registry scan at the same time.
The problem has been occurring regularly for a couple of months and I can now manufacture an occurrence with high predictability. Using the hardware monitor suite 'Everest', it seems the problem happens when the CPU temperature sits at 99 for more than a minute or so.
It happen with some but never when running from batteries - during attempts to force the error, it will not shutdown if the power cable is pulled out just before the crash point.
In many instances of the problem, there seems to be a small error message which pops up only a fraction of a second before the computer dies.
Every forum and help reference I read would suggest the problem is hardware related and that the chip or motherboard is overheating and in need of replacement. While the laptop is nearly 18 months old, I bought a new "everything but the screen and HDD" early this year and was not prepared to accept the explanation without more testing.
Kantonix Linux works fine and the boot from CD seems to tax the processor as much as the same events that are killing it for me under XP.
A few weeks back, I installed the WinXP on a second HDD in the hotswappable bay and noted the installation seems to run the computer pretty hot and it did not die during the process. No problems were experienced for while but, a few days after moving the reinstalled HDD into the primary position and having reinstalled many many applications, the error started happening again.
Last night I caught it just fractions of a second before death, pulling the power and stopping the process and allowing me to see the error message (as referred above) properly:
- first message was from "TOSHIBA Power Saver" saying "A fatal errorn has occurred x06" (not sure on the last bit)
- second message was from "THotkey.exe" saying "Cannot load powrprof.dll"
- many hundreds of instances of the second message followed.
Due to error messages, I wasn't able to get a screen print.
Any solutions or even ideas about such would be very much appreciated!
Message was edited by: DC-FinancialHello Markus, thank you for your suggestion and apologies for the lateness of this reply (thought I was supposed to receive email notification (?!?)).
I agree with your initial assessment "sounds like software related issue" and I would hate to think it is hardware - am die hard Toshiba man! (onto my 5th in as many years) .
Anywho, I have been through all the power saver options, as well as the CPU options under the Toshiba HWSetup: the system crashes under all situations if properly encouraged.
NB: Per my understanding, one shouldn't be able to crash a Pentium M, operating within the acceptable environmental conditions and I am working in a room between 16 & 20 degrees.
It is much more difficult to crash when it has been off for a while (ie. when it is cooler) and is more difficult to crash when on batteries as opposed to AC. Tried switching the RAM during the week and after mistakenly thinking it was all fixed, the problem resurfaced again. While I had the keyboard off, I had a look at the fan and there is a bit of dust on it but not very much. I have a Tecra M3 also, which is only half the age and, compared the fans, the M2 is about twice as dusty [if it were on your dinner table you'd wipe it down but there is not so much that you would imagine it to be a problem].
I mentioned previously that I was using Everest to monitor outputs from the temperature sensors and that crashes occur when the CPU temperature sits at 99 degrees for a while. Sometimes after turning it on after a crash, Everest is not able to display the CPU temperature. Am very reluctant to believe that the heat sensor on the chip has malfunctioned as all the internals were replaced in January (as was stolen and recovered somewhat worse for the adventure).
I have had to bite the bullet and move all my work to the Tecra M3 but am not very happy with this (the M3 I have is 1.86Ghz w/ 512MB vs 2.03Ghz w/ 1536MB RAM in the M2). As I'm sure you will appreciate, the cost of the M2 has now already been spent many times over in lost work time but one needs to know if they have an error related to software or if it is hardware, so as not to live in fear of a recurrance.
I will reinstall the M2 OS as soon as the work lag is caught up again (probably later this week) but really don't know what to try other than crash testing after each piece of software is reinistalled. Note, have already run the Toshiba Hardware Diagnosis console with no errors identified.
If you have any suggestions or thoughts on what I should try they are greatly appreciated! -
High CPU usage with Coherence 3.5.0 cluster node
We're noticing sustained high CPU usage on one of our Coherence nodes - this happens after running a job that pretty intensively interacts with the cache. The jobs complete, however we still see the Coherence process using approximately the equivalent of one core's worth of CPU. I took a couple of thread dumps about fifteen minutes apart, and the only noticeable differences are within the PacketListener1 and PacketListenerN threads - they're holding locks on different DatagramPacket instances, which suggests to be that this may be the piece of code that is looping.
There are two other cache nodes in this particular cluster - both of them on a different machine - and neither of them are exhibiting the same CPU utilization.
Environment:
Coherence 3.5.0

===== END OF THREAD DUMP ===============Charlie, Cameron,
Thanks for following up. To answer Cameron's question - yes, running top shows that it is this process using a significant amount of the CPU. I captured a JRA this morning setting nativesamples=true.
I see the following when I look at the Hot Methods - let me know if there is something else that would shed some more light on this issue.

CPU alert w/ Firefox - computer slowing, stalling - why? fix?
Am getting Alert - high CPU usage generated by FireFox - system slowing down, stalling. Is there a quick fix? HELP
Not a fix but you might try avoiding large extensions that offer very little benefit. Also see if you have extensions mentioned in "[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions Problematic extensions]" and if you do read about problems that you may encounter and may have to make some adjustments for.
I would suggest installing the "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/restartless-restart/ Restartless Restart]" extension (12KB and is for Firefox 4,0 and above) and perhaps invoking it when you leave the room so Firefox will be restarted where you left off when you return. Be sure to reply to any messages about closing tabs before leaving.
Since you are 3.5.6 instead install the "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/quickrestart/ QuickRestart]" (35KB) extension instead. You are on Windows 7 you can use the latest Firefox version 8.0, and 3.6.* would be better than what you have. Some of your problems might be lessened. -
Jcaps 5.1.3 - high cpu usage eventstore.db
Hi,
JCAPS 5.1.3 on windows 2003 -
I'm witnessing some persistant high CPU 30 - 40% usage and constant access to the file eventstore.db.
Is this normal behaviour or is there a configuration option to reduce the polling frequency on this file?
Has some alert gone wrong?
Actually user usage is very low - practically none.
ThanksHi,
I noticed this behavior with the Alert + SNMP Agents installed but not configured. In this situation, the SNMP agent generates traps for all events, leading to high CPU using, even when nothing was processed. Are you in a similar case?

LMS 3.2 : issue with custom portal : high CPU
Hi,
Customer has a big issue with LMS.
When he connects to the standard portal, it works fine.
pdshow seems ok.
But when he wants to work with custom portal (portal.jpg), it makes a long time to display information and when he wants select something it hangs.
CPU is very high. He must stoped/restart LMS to have a normal CPU.
I asked him to :
- restart LMS, he made at 14h30
- CPU was ok and he worked with standard portal withou problems but when he tried to put debug for portal CPU increase at 15h30:
Common Services -> server -> Admin -> CS Log Configurations: debug on CiscoWorks Portal, CiscoWorks portlets and CS Home
Process which takes a lot of CPU is tomcat, you will find pdshow.txt, stdout.log and stderr.log.
He tries to go to the custom portal but it hangs, you will find logs from debug : CSHomePage.log and CSPortal.log
he sent me AAD.log because there was " high severity alert".
Many thanks for your help,
ElisabethThe most obvious problem is that DfmBroker is down. Check to make sure tcp/9002 is not in user, then try a server reboot. See if the AAD problems go away (and perhaps the CPU problem will as well). If not, post the NMSROOT/objects/local/logs/broker.log.

High CPU usage for SERVER0 process in XI
Hi,
SERVER0 process is taking high CPU usage, previously it happen once its due to communication channel error, So we deativated some unwanted communication channels in Alert config and the CPU usage is reduced.
After some weeks its again CPU usage is increasing for SERVER0 process in some time.
Can anyone help in this case.
Thank you,
gopi.Hi Gopi,
Check out Tim's reply and check for ur Java stack settings,
Extended Memory parameters
<i>The bottom line for J stacks is to keep everything in memory and out of swap. </i>
Other tips:
- u may try clearing folder usr\sap\<SID>\DVEBMGS00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps
- try increasing virtual memory
- increase heap size

MacBook shuts down on battery power at high cpu usage
I have a black MacBook core 2 duo (MacBook 2,1) that has always worked perfectly, but about 2 weeks ago it started to shut down without any notification.
When I am doing CPU intensive tasks I can hear a click and immediately after the computer turns off. This happens with different applications and even running Windows trough Boot Camp.
My first thought was that the computer shuts down itself to prevent overheating but since I only get the problem when running on battery power I rejected that theory.
In the other side my battery is working well, because it has only 183 charge cycles and the full capacity is 4169 mAh, meaning 82% of the capacity of a new one. With airport and bluetooth turned off and low brightness on the screen I can still read PDFs for more than 5 hours.
Another suspicious behavior is that last week, several minutes before the computer shut down, it couldn’t make any sound. I rebooted it and sound started working again. Maybe this is an independent problem but since they started together it can be related to the high CPU shut down one.
Has anybody seen this kind of behavior? Any idea about what is producing the problem?
Thanks in advanceyes it is the 5.1

i have high cpu utalization 70% usage with my BRAS 7206 while the online PPPoVPDN customers not more than 1200 online concurrent sessions
i revised the configuration but i coudn't found the cause of problem.
i monitord that when i tried to traceroute from ADSL client router any of the servers ip address behind servers network , it seems the packet go out through DEFAULT-ROUTE route map which results the following:

We are monitoring WAAS devices for CPU utilization in our Network.Currently we have set the threshold for 70%. At this threshold we see a large number of alerts from WAAS crossing 70% CPU utilization. I guess 70% CPU utilization is normal for WAAS. Am I right???
Hi Daniel,
Yes, during the peak hours sometimes the CPU shoots even upto 95% and then in next 5 min comes down to normal below 70%.
Since our threshold is 70%, we get a lot of inactionable(because it becomes normal in 5-10 miinutes only) alert.I was wondering if we could change the threshold.
One of the Cisco Tac Engineer replied to the above question :
That is true. It is normal to have a high CPU utilization in normal Operation as we mentioned earlier it runs on underlying Linux kernel and linux does not use Page file rather it uses Maximum RAM that it could .

Both of these seem a bit high don't you think?
If you have any idea as to why this is happening. Or is this normal?
ThanksHi,
This could be related to L2 issues like a loop, see that the K2L2 Address Table R process has a target of 2.00% and is currently running at 72.93%, which is way over the expected target, this can be an indication of host/mac flapping issues. Also the host learning queue seems very high and the L2/L3 control.
You can enable mac notification mac move command to see if on the logs are any flapping issues. Also below is a link which is very helpful when dealing with high cpu issues on 4500.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-4000-series-switches/65591-cat4500-high-cpu.html
Hope this helps. -
/sbin/init high CPU usage (80%)
My PC run slowly, I viewed the processes by htop utility and it revealed that /sbin/init has a constantly high CPU usage, around 70-80%. I scanned it with clamscan virus scanner, but not infected. What can I do to fix this problem?
Did you mean "ps -ef" ? Then:

Securityd - high cpu usage. Yosemite 10.10.3
Hi,
I have upgraded to 10.10.3 and I am having issues with the process securityd. It constantly has high cpu usage and its causing the cpu temp to heat up. I did a clean install of yosemite at 10.10.2. Also other weird stuff is happening, such as when i click the button to open the notification/today sidebar, it gets highlighted so i know it has registered the click but the sidebar doesn't open. When i click it again, it opens.
Any Ideas to fix this that ideally don't require a full reinstall (Doing exams at the moment, takes time to reinstall stuff).
I have the latest 15 inch retina macbook pro. 2.2 i7 and 16gb ram.
Thanks,
