HighErrorRate caused by the giants on VSL link

Hi,
We are running into the Bug CSCsc61302: the giant packet counters on VSL interfaces increment in Catalyst 6500 VSS. It is an expected behavior, but we were paged up by CiscoWorks (LMS3.2) due to HighErrorRate (55~60%) at 2AM every morning.
We currently have dot3StatsEntry.13 excluded from SNMP view to supress the pages. But we loss the ability to monitor the giants alert caused by other unexpected behaviors because of it. Is there anyway that we can supress the error alerts caused by this VSL Giants and get all other interface error features properly monitored?
Thanks.

No.  Other giants would be counted by the same object, so there is no way to differentiate giants caused by the bug vs. other giants.  It really looks like you've employed the best available workaround.  Filtering dot3StatsFrameTooLongs will remove giants from the error calculation, leaving other others visible.

  • Cisco 6880-x vsl link failure

    Hi Guys,
I have a head scratcher that I'm dealing with.  I have 2x (2 month) 6880-x switches configured with vss with 2 vsl links on each of its sup cards and switch 1 is the active switch on the vss.  Both 6880x chassis also have 2 additional 10g modules each.  I am dealing with 2 issues in this setup.
The first issue is,  i have a 3750x with a 10g module thats port channeled to the vss with one 10g link going to each of the chassis.  Within the first 3 days it started dropping the link that's plugged to switch1, then comes back on right away.  It does it randomly throughout the day.  I have changed out the optics on both ends, changed the cable, and also changed the module on the 3750x and I still get the same issue.  The strange part is that when switch2 on the vss becomes the active switch, the problem goes away.  I did notice this before changing out the optics, cable, module on the 3750x.
The second issue is the one I'm been trying to figure out along with cisco TAC.  This started about a month after bring the vss online.  When switch1 was the active switch in the vss, every couple of days vsl links drop one at a time, eventually killing the vss and putting the standby unit into recovery mode because of the dual active detection.  once I reboot the standby switch, the vss comes back up normally.  it did this a couple of times until I decided to force switch2 to be the active switch on the vss.  when switch2 became active, the vss was stable for about a month then the vsl links died again, and the system failed over to switch1.  after looking at the logs with cisco tac, we see that the vsl links stop responding which causes the failover, but up until now we still can't determine what is causing the vsl links to fail.  cisco tac said that maybe the vsl links were being overloaded but we have been monitoring the bandwidth utilization on the vsl links and they never go beyond 1% utilization.  The last suggestion by cisco tac was to add another vsl link but through another module other than the sup.  This was done a couple of days ago so now i'm waiting to see if the vsl links fail again and since switch1 is the active switch on the vss, i'm having to deal with the first issue above with the 3750x.
I've included some log entries from the dropped port-channel member and also logs for when the vsl links fail.
Logs for 3750x port-channel member drops.

so according to the logs, it seems like the switch was reloaded or something of the nature but even the cisco tac said that it wasnt the case but couldnt determine whats causing it either.  Tac went through the config on the vss and has said that its configured correctly.
Maybe someone else has experienced this issue or if someone can point out something that I can look at...  sorry for the very long post.
    thanks

I suppose, we have the same problem. Only when Switch 1 is the active switch of the 6880-X VSS system, the connection to the FEX-stack breaks suddenly after running fine for some days and the FEX-stack (3 x 6800-IA) get only ready again when I reset the whole VSS-system, both VSS-switches and the FEX-stack.
All access ports at the FEX can't connect to our infrastructure (DHCP,DNS...). The two connected TenG FEX-stack uplinks sometimes get down and sometimes only the uplink to the active parent switch get down. The SYST LED of FEX 1 lighting amber.
When parent switch 2 is the active unit the issue never occured.
    6880-X running with 15.2(1)SY, 6800-IA running with 15.2(3)E.
Cisco TAC is investigating that issue, but till now without any result.
When the issue occurs, the recorded logging messages are:

The idea to jumpstart by change was not the smartest one, but gives you an opportunity to use that "temporary" account as permanent. You do not have a choice cause obviously despite you thinking that old account is no more -it does exist on Apple servers. And if you are unwilling to share your [email protected] with friend, just create one extra [email protected] for your friend. One suggestion - do not use gmail.

    Hi Friends,
I am facing this weird situation in my development environment at work using Apex 3.1.2.00.02.
There is this report where I am using this huge query below to show the statistics of various file loads.
    SELECT f.load_date "Load Date",
           c.cust_name "Customer",
           a.file_id "File ID",

                                                         AND f.file_default = 'N')
JOIN ah_chain c ON (f.chain_id = c.chain_id)In the above query I have made the following columns as links which would redirect to other pages showing the respective records.
    1) "Successful Records"
    2) "Customer Validation Errors"
    3) "CS Validation Errors"
    4) "No Activity Type Assigned"
Also I have enabled CSV output under "Report Export"
Now the issue is when I downloaded this entire report into spreadsheet, only the non-url columns are being exported.
I have even made sure that "Include In Export" under Column Attributes is set to YES.
I tried to reproduce this issue using Dept & Emp tables but it seems to be working there.
I don't know if it is the query which is causing this issue or a genuine Apex bug.
Hope someone might have faced some thing like this earlier.
    Appreciate your thoughts on this.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

    Log Message:
Reverted my previous reversion, since the original change wasn't the cause of the Mustella breakage. So once again:
The 'lineBreak' style is now properly declared as non-inheriting.
For a long time we've intended for it to be non-inheriting... it lives in BasicNonInheritingStyles.as! And we want it to be non-inheriting, because in TLF this format does not inherit from parent FlowElement to child FlowElement, so in Flex is should not inherit from parent UIComponent to child UIComponent. But the metadata incorrectly said inherit="yes". It now correctly says inherit="no".

  • Performance issue is most probably caused by the fact that IE can not handle such amount of requests ? is it ?

    Hi,
I'm running web applications and there is performance issue is most probably caused by the fact that IE can not handle such amount of requests that are forwarded to the server at the same time.
    Data:
On IE(10) – search variety 11- it takes a long time (about 25 seconds for response) .
in general, the responding time of "search variety" in IE is much longer than Chrome.
    IE - see:http://screencast.com/t/kSeT3hC2mRfV
    Chrome see:http://screencast.com/t/NYf6fskU
    Why? any solution ?
    Thanks,

display the Developer tool console in each browser to view the suppressed error messages.
All modern browsers support the performance api or your can use the Networking tab to view the latency metrics for the site.... commonly you may be using meta directives for caching instead of server headers or you have different settings between browsers
which determine how long resources are cached. Commonly, IE has a different security model to other browsers... ensure that you are using the Default IE security zone settings.... Actions like innerHTML go through a sanitization process to remove script content...
Commonly AJAX calls are made during the onload event...

  • What happened to the Giant DSR-11 Timecode out thread

What happened to the Giant DSR-11 Timecode out thread? The one about using simple video out to stripe the tape.
people keep asking me how to do it, and I'd love to just send them a link to that thread, but can't find it when I search for it. Anyone have the link?
    thanks, tim

Naa, props like the kind that hold me up when I've had too much to drink.

  • Questions about tuning the USRP packet -based link examples

    Hi everyone,
Today I do some tests and tunning on the USRP packet-based link examples, and I find these questions:
First I set the following parameters to the Packet Transmitter.vi: Tx frequency=2441M, samples per symblol=8, sample rate=800k, then the symbol rate should be 100k
Then I set the Rx frequency to 2441=M and do three tests to the USRP packet receiver.vi:
       1. set the samples per symbol to 8,  the sample rate to 800k, all the packets can be received correctly very fast.
       2. set the samples per symbol to 40, the sample rate to 4M, all the packtes can be received correctly, but slower than the former test.
       3. set the samples per symbol to 50, the sample rate to 5M, all the packets can be received correctly, but much slower than the former two tests.
       4.  set the samples per symbol to 40, the sample rate to 5M, but change the sample rate to  4M  when input the argument to the resample&demod_shell.vi, then I find that no packets can be received correctly.(According to my understanding, resampling the data with 4M sample rate should make the input data time-aligned)
Can anyone help me interprete above  test? Thanks in advance!

    Hi 0711,
You are correct.  If you sample at 5MS/s and have a samples/sym of 40, resampling with a sample rate of 4MS/s will allow you to receive the signal.  Digging into the sub_resample_and_demodulate.vi, I found the issue.  The modulation toolkit resample VI that is being used pulls the sample rate of the incoming signal from the incoming waveform (or the dt of the incoming waveform).  In the resample and demodulate subvi, the dt of the incoming signal was hard wired to be 1/x of the desired sampling rate.  For all other uses cases, having these 2 parameters hard wired together does not cause a problem, but for the 4th case you described it does.  I edited the subvi like shown in the image below and was able to get it working:
Hope that helps and let me know if you have any further questions.  I'll do my best to get you an answer.

    Hi Chris,
I have confirmed this is an AIR SDK 13.0.0.83 bug.
I have reported this bug to Adobe Bugbase, and I also included the workaround:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3750892
    The workaround is:
Simply comment the <externalSwfs> tag in your -app.xml will solve this bug, like this: <!-- <externalSwfs></externalSwfs> -->

  • Some worksheets missing the format and stoplight link in viewer

I have a set of workbooks that are pretty simple. Each has from 1 to 4 worksheets. I have one workbook where two of the worksheets when run through viewer do not show a format or stoplight link, but the other two do show the links. Is there something that blocks these links from being displayed?

This issue occurred in our system too.
We are running Oracle BI 10.1.2 on a Windows 2003 Server machine. The "format" and "stoplight" link suddenly disappeared from Disco Viewer.
Does anybody know what can have caused this?
ps: moreover the font of the Viewer page is smaller since this happened

  • Cisco Pix 515 failover how to know the cause of the fail

    Hello All,
We have 2 units 515 in failover configuration.
From the last Thursday we are having problems in our pixs.
The primary unit fail and then the standby works.
We need to know what is the real cause of the problem.
We have configured logging and when we check the syslog messages we can´t find anything important.
    Our version is 6.3(5).
    Can anybody help us?
If you need more information, please tell me.
    Thanks in advance.
    Martin.

    Hello Gurpreet,
Our failover system is working only with the failover cable, not with netwaork cable.
High CPU is occuring in primary unit. The high cpu usage was after the issue.
One thing, disconnecting for a seconds the cable for interfece "inside" (this cable connects th firewall to our network) the failover runs again ok. We can´t understand it.
    Here is the sh interface

  • Does anyone know how to avoid the Ok, upload, thumbnails links that appeares when you touche the ipad screen when viewing an interactive pdf?

i'm trying to read several interactive pdf on my ipad, but when i touch the screen it ppeares a top bar with "ok" that if i touch it closes the pdf, an upload button, & the thumbnails of the pages on the righ side of the screen appears too. Does anybody know how to avoid it? Thank's

Are you saying that all pages appear blank when you open the particular PDF document (AINF....pdf) in Adobe Reader for iOS?  It may be due to a bug in Adobe Reader for iOS.
You mentioned "links"...There are three different actions that the desktop version of Adobe Reader supports for links.
Go to a page view (within the same document)
    Open a web page
    Open a file
Adobe Reader mobile products (for iOS, Android, Windows Phone) support the first two but does not support opening a PDF file or any other types of files.
Additionally, hyperlinks are not visible in Adobe Reader mobile products.  (It used to show hyperlinks in light blue highlight.  But due to customer complaints, hyperlink highlighting has been disabled.)
Please let us know if you can share your PDF document with us (Adobe).  We can take a look at it and diagnose the cause of the problem.  Thank you.

  • How to monitor the quality of WAN link?

    Dear All,
I have a basic problem; my remote site has unstable link so the VoIP system can't work well.
Do you have any way to monitor the quality of WAN link:
How to track  the paths that packets travel from source to destination? (each packet has different path to reach the same destination)
How to track the sequence of packet? (tcp/udp packets reach the destination with the wrong sequence)
Thanks You very much for helping me!

As the other posters have noted, IP SLA is an excellent feature for doing all kinds of quality monitoring.  However, besides finding a tool that can "nicely" report on SLA stats, you'll probably want one that can also define the SLA tests too.  (Unfortunately, I don't have a recommendation for such a tool.)
BTW, if different packets are taking different paths and/or often arriving out of sequence, you probably have some device with multiple egress paths doing packet-by-packet load balancing, which can cause all kinds of performance issues.  You might also be able to find that device by using a simple traceroute.  Look for hops with multiple paths.
