Highlighting Search Strings vs Individual Words

I am using the method on Peter Grainges site for Highlighting
Search Strings. I have completed all necessary changes and the
function works~~~~ One thing I have found that I wonder if I can
change.... As it stands now If I enter more than 1 word to search
ROBO actually separates both words and searches them as individual
words ~ I want to search as a string not individually -- is there a
fix for this?? Thanks in advance for any help that is
offered.

The search has no link to the highlighting in this context,
it just makes it obvious.
I don't think you can change that other than use a different
search. ZoomSearch can be configured to work with RoboHelp and is
described on my site.

Hi Suma,
Your Search button runs a process called "RUN_REPORT". Presumably, this process picks up the values from the tabular form to construct the new SQL statement.
Given that you don't have a normal report definition - ie one that you can use the Highlight Words option - the only other possibility is to adjust the SQL query results.
Let's assume that you have in your RUN_REPORT process a variable called vJOB that holds the JOB value from your QBE grid. Your SQL statement could then be adjusted to something like:
SELECT EMPNO,
ENAME,
'<span style="color:red">' || JOB || '</span>',
etc
FROM EMPTABLE
WHERE JOB = vJOB;
Obviously, without seeing your code, I can not say exactly how it should be constructed to highlight the word(s), but the above should give you an idea of what you need to do. If you're still not sure, can you please paste into this thread the RUN_REPORT code.

EBS Search String for two words separate by other characters

Is there a way to write a search string which will recognize two words in a string?
For example :
PAYPAL TRANSFER WTT489798709898BOOK
I need a search string which will recognize PAYPAL and BOOK
I have tried : (|)PAYPAL + BOOK( |$)    or (|)PAYPAL / BOOK( |$)but in the test it is not successfull.

Does SAP treat multiple record 88 lines on the EBS as one continuous line for a single 16 record?
I used the string ^PAYPAL ?*DOTCOM PARTNERS LP$ based on your suggestion and uploaded a EBS statement.
The system did not post anything, even though in string test if I enter the follwowing line it displays correct results
:PAYPAL TRANSFER 110403 522222222454W DOTCOM PARTNERS LP/
Our EBS statement has the following data:
16,169,20000,,,00000000000,/
88,OTHER REFERENCE:IA0000122222222/
88,PAYPAL TRANSFER 110403 522222222454W DOTCOM PARTNERS LP/

How to highlight Search string in JTextArea??

I have a Search utility which search for a string in JTextArea. Search utility is able to locate the search string but it does not highlight it.
Please let me know if you know what could be wrong

You have to highlight the string yourself. Try using:
textArea.setSelectionStart( int );
textArea.setSelectionEnd ( int );

Need help on search string in EBS

Hi,
We have a situation where multiple BAI transactions comes with same code, ex: 451 and based on the text in the note to payee they need to be posted to different clearing accounts.
I did config taking advantage of search string and posting rule in tareget field (EBVGINT)
For some reason getting an error message saying " Account symbol in account assignment not replaceable"
For example of CITI in the note to payee, my config is like this :
Created Account symbol CITI, Assigned GL account to account symbol CITI and account modifier as CITI too
Created posting key as CITI and posting rules are posting rule CITI , 40 (debit) post to bank accounting (option 1) for account symbol CITI and 50 (credit) post to bank as account symbol with posting to bank accounting (option 1) document type SA.
In the search string section, created a search string CITI with source (text from note to payee) and target as CITI (posting rule key)
then this searchs tring has been assigned to the company code, house bank, no algorithm, target field as posting rule and no prefix.
Can anybody explain me why i am getting the above error message based on this config ??

Hi Uma,
The search string works this way:
Step 1: You define a search string. The search string should be a unique word or number or a combination which appears in the 88 record of the BAI statement. In the definition:
a. you give a name for the search string
b. a definition or long text
c. the search string - the unique word you want the system to search for in the 88 record. Please note that the search string you enter here should appear exactly in the same way in your bank statement.
d. you map this search string to a Posting rule or cost center or whatever you want to replace in the next step.
Step 2. Here you tell the system how this mapped information (in (d) above) is to be used. The mapped information could be used as a posting rule, as cost center, as profit center or in any way you want if you define your own logic.
The usage could be specific to a House bank, Account ID, Company code, BAI code combination or you can leave it as generic so that it will be used for all House Bank and Account ID in all company code.
But I would advise you to keep it very specific otherwise the results would not be what you want to be.
To answer your question: Also, do i need to add the entries in transaction type and assign them to the external transaction and posting rule ?
It is not required. But if you have assigned a posting rule under the Transaction type, the configuration in search string will override it. So you really don't need the assignment of posting rule under transaction type, but I would advise you to do it because if the system does not find your search string, then it will take this assignment as default.

In the compose field can't I color highlight chosen individual words??

Using Thunderbird I'm dismayed that there appears to be no way to highlight individual words or phrases with a background color, as can be done in many email web interfaces on line, certainly those of AOL and Hotmail. All I find possible using Thunderbird is font color, not highlight.
Is there no way to color highlight chosen words within the compose field using Thunderbird??

Thunderbird comes as a basic email client. There are lots of add ons for all the fancy stuff people like to do.

Enable Highlight Search Result in RH8 for Word

Hi all,
Is the search option "Enable Highlight Search Result" available under RoboHelp 8 for Word? I can find the option in RoboHelp 8 but I can't find it under the RH8 for Word application.
Any pointers or advice would be really helpful.

It's a pity this is not an option as I have word docs already written for a User Guide and the text highlighting option in searches is really helpful to narrow down where seach strngs are located within large topic pages.
I guess I could copy and paste the word content manually into a RoboHelp HTML project instead.

Ability to highlight individual words as mac converts text to speech

When I am using text to speech, can I have mac highlight each individual word as it is read to me so I can pair the sound with the word and thereby strengthen my reading skills? This would be a helpful accessibility feature for someone who has learning disabilities.

Searching for a whole word within a sentence

I am trying to search for a whole word only in a sentence. The problem is if I use CS then I get things that contain the string in other words. If I use CO or CP then there is no match because there are other words in the sentence. I don't think it's practical to split the sentence into individual words and then compare each word as the sentence is of an unknown length and could be made up of many words.
An example:
Sentence 1 - THIS IS ABOUT RF OUTPUTS.
Sentence 2 - THIS IS ABOUT MY PERFORMANCE
The user wants to search for sentences containing RF. In this search I only want sentence 1 to be found and not the RF in the word performance in sentence 2.
Can anyone tell me how to do this.

Well, it might depend on the nationality of your keyboard, but on my US keyboard, the tilde ("squiggle") is above the TAB key; on a Mac, ⌘-TAB cycles through the active applications and ⌘-tilde cycles through the windows in the front application.
When you do a Find, Pages selects an instance of your search text (the next one after the current selection, I think, but I didn't check that). It doesn't make the document window the front window, though. If you click in the window to bring it to the front, it moves the selection (or insertion point) to wherever you click unless you click on or above the ruler. Try clicking at the top of the document window after you do a find; say somewhere near the document name. Now you should see the highlighted selection (your search text). If you click back on the Find window, the selection will go grey again, unless you hold ⌘ down while clicking.

Use of special characters in Search String

What is the use of special charaters like
in the search string in the Find & Replace of ABAP editor ?
I want to search for all strings starting with V which are followed by alphabets like
VA
VB...
If I use V*, it also gives me results like
V/R...
Whether it is possible to specify such a condition?

While giving ur search in FIND & REPLACE,
use the match case or match whole word only..
Then u will get search results only where the exact case of that variable is used..
As per my knowledge there is no signification of special characters ,- : ; in the search string..

Weird. I have multuple monitors and the boot stuff always appears on my main monitor.
See if smc and pram reset clears the problem.
I have multiple screens on my Mac Pro. A normal screen, a projector and a USB-to-DVI converter.
What video card are you using? And USB-to-DVI is not the usual way for connecting monitors. I wonder if that is confusing things. So out of curiousity what happens if that monitor is not connected?

How can you change individual words in a PDF using javascript?

I am trying to do some simple text replacement in a PDF file using Acrobat. Specifically, I want to do some simple transliteration of words or partial transliteration. For instance, I would like to change a word like "red" to "ρed". This is to help me get used to the Greek alphabet step by step.
Anyway, I downloaded Acrobat and there is no feature to do a single letter search and replace -- only word replacement. I have a Computer Science degree and decided to investigate the javascript capabilities to see if I can make those a simple letter replacement script. However, I have gotten to the point where I can cycle through every word in the PDF (using functions like getPageNthWord), and I can make a replacement on the string returned using something like: val.replace(/r/, "ρ"). However, I don't know how to replace the word in the PDF file....such as with a hypothetical function setPageNthWord (which does not exit). I have found the online documentation very thin on this, and I am scratching my head. Perhaps, it is something to do with the PDF format that I do not understand. So, is there a way to simply change text of a PDF file, like I am asking? All I am looking for is simple script to change a letter to another across a PDF.

JS can't edit the text in a PDF file directly. There are workarounds, like
using a redaction with overlay text or simply placing a new field or
annotation on top of the old text with the new one, but they are all far
from perfect and won't cause a "reflow" of the document, so if the two
texts are not of the same length the result will look odd. Also there's the
issue of which font to use (font family, color, size, etc.), which JS can't
know so you'll have to tell it.
