Hint and database settings

Hi to all,
I have an issue with my database (10g). In detail when I set an hint in a query the explain plain does not set it as the path?
Why do I have this behavior in your opinion ? What tables or setting do I see to understand the resolution ?
TIA !

In general, a hint is a directive, and must be followed with few exceptions (bugs, previous query transformation that makes the hint no longer possible, hinted access path is impossible, bad hint syntax, conflicting hints, etc.). A 10053 trace during a hard parse should show if the hint was recognized and used.

  • Database settings in SQL server

    Hi,
Please provide SAP's recommendations for Database Settings when upgarding to BPC 7
1.Compatibility Level. Should it be (80) or (100)?
    Compatibility Level of 80 = SQL 2000
    Compatibility Level of 90 = SQL 2005
    Compatibility Level of 100 = SQL 2008
    2. Recovery Model (Simple or Full)
    Thanks.
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu,
    For 7.0
SQL Server 2000 is not supported
Compatibility Level of 90 = SQL 2005 if you are using SQL Server 2005
Compatibility Level of 100 = SQL 2008 if you are using SQL Server 2008
    Recovery Model
It is depending by the disaster recovery model which customer would like to implement.
If for the customer lossing data for last 24 hours is an accepted then you can use SINGLE
If for the customer the data lost can be in maximum X hours (X< 24)  then you have to use FULL.(and you have to implement
the backup maintenance plan according with this requirement).

  • Applying Metric and Policy Settings globally

    Hi,
I wish to remove some Metric and Policy Settings globally.
Example: I want to remove monitoring for percentage of space left in tablespaces. Instead, I want to make all tablespaces auto-extensible and only monitor disk space.
I don't want to go into the configuration of each and every database in order to do this. There must be a way to globally remove out-of-box configurations and globally add a custom configured one, or is that not true?
    Thank you for any insights!
    Maria

It disappears only because there is a drop down at the top that says to filter "metrics with thresholds" just switch that to "All metrics" and you will see the blank ones again. As for the disabling a collection. A collection is used for many metrics. When you go to disable a metric collection, by clicking on the link for "Every 15 minutes" (for example). It will list all of the metrics that you will no longer collect data for.
Again, I would suggest not stopping the collection, and simply blanking out the thesholds. Thats the way it was designed.
Eg. Disabling Archive space used collection will disable the following other metrics:
    Archive Area Used (%)
    Archive Area Used (KB)
    Dump Area Directory
    Dump Area Used (%)
    Dump Area Used (KB)
    Free Archive Area (KB)
    Free Dump Area (KB)
    Total Archive Area (KB)
    Total Dump Area (KB)

    Hi,
I have installed MDM7.1 on AIX and on DB2 successfully.
Installed MDM Console 7.1 on my desktop and as part of Post steps I am able to mount the DB but while I am setting Database settings getting the error "unable to Retrieve Database settings" in MDM7.1.
Can any one please suggest on the same

    Hi Saini,
Thank you for your reply, I have gone through that thread. I have done all the settings required for MDM and DB2.
Only thing I havn't done is DB2 Client was not installed. Because our DB2 expert is saying that he has installed full DB2 installation and since DB2 and MDM are on the same box,
client software is not necessery. Is this correct..please advice.

    Mac
The Photoshop Lightroom application is the Adobe Lightroom 2.app file, located in the Applications folder.
The preference file is the com.adobe.Lightroom2.plist file, located in the[username]/Library/Preferences folder.
The following Photoshop Lightroom database files are located in the[username]/Pictures/Lightroom folder:
Lightroom 2/3 Catalog.lrcat (the catalog itself)
Lightroom 2/3 Catalog.lrcat.lock (this file prevents you from overwriting data)
Lightroom 2/3 Catalog Previews.lrdata (the file that holds the preview data assigned to your photos)
    Windows XP
The Photoshop Lightroom application is the Lightroom.exe file, located in the Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 folder.
Preferences are located in the Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs file, located in the Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder.
The Photoshop Lightroom database file, Lightroom 2/3 Catalog.lrcat, is located in the Documents and Settings/[username]/My Documents/My Pictures/Lightroom folder:
Previews are located in various folders in the Documents and Settings/[username]/My Documents/My Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 2/3 Catalog Previews.lrdata folder. They are organized and coded for the application to read, not for users.
    Windows Vista / Windows 7

Previews are located in various folders in the Users/[username]/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 2/3 Catalog Previews.lrdata folder. They are organized and coded for the application to read, not for users.
    Lightroom 1.x
This Adobe  TechNote lists the locations for the Photoshop Lightroom 1.x  Preference and Database/Catalog files. The location information provided in the Technote is summarised below:
    Mac
    >The preference file is the com.adobe.Lightroom.plist file, located in the [username]/Library/Preferences folder.
    >The following Photoshop Lightroom database files are located in the [username]/Pictures/Lightroom folder:
    * Lightroom Database.lrdb(the Lr 1.0 database)or the Lightroom Catalog.lrcat (Lightroom 1.1 and higher)
    * Lightroom Database.lrdb.lock (the file that prevents data from being overwritten inadvertently)
    * Lightroom Previews.lrdata (the file that holds the preview data assigned to your photos)
    Windows:
    >Preferences are located in the Lightroom Preferences.agprefs file, located in the Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder.
    >The following Photoshop Lightroom database file is located in the Documents and Settings/[username]/My Documents/My Pictures/Lightroom folder:
    * Lightroom Database.lrdb (Lr 1.0 database) or the Lightroom Catalog.lrcat file (Lightroom 1.1 and higher)
    * Lightroom Database.lrdb.lock (the file that prevents data from being overwritten inadvertently)
    * Lightroom Previews.lrdata (the file that holds the preview data assigned to your photos)
    >Registration information is located in the Windows registry, in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Adobe/Lightroom/1.0/Registration key folder for Lr 1.x
Make sure you don't delete any of the database/catalog files. The only file you might need to delete or remove is the preference file.
Note: database files were created by Lightroom version 1.0 and use the extension  lrdb. Subsequent versions use catalog files for the same purpose and have the extension  lrcat

If you don't mind losing some if not all of the work you have done already start a new catalog.
    To keep all existing work:
Make sure that the copied NEF files on the external have the same folder structure as previous.
Copy the Lr4 catalog to the external and launch it on the laptop by double clicking it. A copy of the catalog will get upgraded for Lr5. This will retain all your work although you will need to reconnect the Folders in the Catalog by pointing them to the new drive.
You can keep th Catalog on the EHD or move it to the Laptop.....

  • CPO Oracle database settings

    Hi,
The CPO install guide mention to modify the Oracle database settings as follow:
"For the Oracle DB instance dedicated to TEO, use the following script to change the case-sensitive settings in the Oracle database. The user must have database administrative rights to execute this script.
After changing the settings, the user must reset the database server.
    Script
    ALTER SYSTEM SET NLS_COMP=LINGUISTIC scope=spfile;
    ALTER SYSTEM SET NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI scope=spfile; "
We are deploying TEO in an existing database containing other applications. Modifying the Database properties has indicated above may (still investigating) create issues with the other existing applications.
What is the impact of not applying the above changes to the database ?
    Thank you,
    JB

Julio suggested checking out these two bugs:
CSCtr89012 Oracle database is case sensitive
CSCts03785 Operations -> search is case sensitive in Oracle
He said it was close to the end of regression and was safer for them to ask for case insensitive settings.
The drawback to not having this would be some select type statements would not work or some things in tasks might not work...
ie. "task" would not match up with "Task"
I would suggest contacting Don Freeman and/or Julio Silveria for more information.

  • Report on DNS and WINS settings

    Hi,
It doesn't look like there are built-in reports to show DNS and WINS settings for client machines in SCCM 2012? We are going to run a script to change all clients with static DNS and WINS settings and I need to have a report to show client machines with
and without the new settings. Can anyone help with this?
I have enabled 'DNS Server Search Order', 'WINS Primary Server' and 'WINS Secondary Server' in hardware inventory classes > Network Adapter Configuration (Win32_NetworAdapterConfiguration). I've done this in the Default client settings. There are other
client setting policies with a higher priority but I assume they are cumulative and so as this isn't set on the other client setting policies it should implement this?
    Thanks,

Remote Databas settings is used to integrate ACS with an oracle or sql database to generate reports in your environment.
If you are worried about the logs being generated it would be best to setup the removal and backup configuration and point your acs to either a ftp or nfs repostoring.

In my productive mountain lion environment this is no problem.
Is there any was to force the settings update for users as it is possible for computers?

  • ARCHITECTURE OF SAP R/3 AND APPLICATION SERVER AND DATABASE SERVER IN ABAP

ARCHITECTURE OF SAP R/3 AND APPLICATION SERVER AND DATABASE SERVER IN ABAP?
    PLEASE EXPLAIN

    hi
    <b>Presentation Server</b>
It is actually a program named sapgui.exe.
It usually installed in user’s workstation.
The interface accepts the input from the user in the form of keystrokes, mouse-clicks, and function keys, and sends these requests to the application server.
It receives and displays the result from the application server.
    <b>Application Server</b>
An application server is a set of executables that collectively interpret the the ABAP/4 programs.
Each application server has a profile called application server profile, that specifies its characteristics when it starts up and while it is running. It specifies:
    1. Number of processes and its types.
2.Amount of memory each process may use.
    3. Length of time a user is inactive before being automatically logged off.
If your ABAP/4 program requests information from the database, the application server will format the request and send it to the database server
    <b>Database Server</b>
The database server is a set of executables that accepts database requests from the application server.
These requests are passed on to the RDBMS (Relation Database Management System).
The RDBMS sends the data back to the application server.
The RDBMS  may run on database server’s computer or may be installed on its own computer.
The components of application server are dispatcher, dispatcher queue, work process.
All requests that come in from presentation servers are directed first to the dispatcher.
The dispatcher writes them to the dispatcher queue.
The dispatcher pulls the requests from the queue on a first-in, first-out basis.
Each request is then allocated to the first available work process.
A work process handles one request at a time.
The work process needs two memory areas, the user context and the roll area.
The user context is a memory area that contains the information about the user.
The roll area is a memory area that contains about the program execution.
    <b>User Context</b>
User context is a memory area that contains the characteristics of a user that is logged on the R/3 system.
    1)It holds,     user’s current settings.
    2. The users authorizations.
    3. The names of the programs the user is currently running.
When a user logs on, the user context is allocated for that logon. When logs off, it is freed.
    <b>Roll Area     </b>
A roll area is a memory that is allocated by a work process for an instance of a program.
It holds the information needed by R/3 about the program execution, such as:     1. The values of the variables
    2. The dynamic memory allocations
    3. The current program pointer.
Each time a user starts a program, a roll area is created for that instance of the program.
If two users are using the same program at the same time, two roll areas will exist-one for each user.
The roll area is freed when the program ends.
Both roll area and the user context play an important roll in dialog processing
<b>pls reward points dor useful ans</b>

  • Separate Oracle Software and Databases?

I need to install the Oracle application software to one disk volume, and allow Oracle to store it's databases on another distinct disk volume. I'm also doing this with a headless response file. I initially thought that the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE settings in the response file may be what I need:
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
However, since ORACLE_HOME is a subdirectory of ORACLE_BASE, I can't mount both locations to different volumes.
    How can I do this?

  • NX and gnome-settings-daemon

    Hi all,
I'm new here and I'm using Arch for a few months now. I came (in fact I never left it) from Gentoo, so I found the Arch procedures somewhat familiar. I'm using the x86_x64 flavor as my desktop box, which is an Athlon 64 3200+.
I recently noticed while accessing my box through NX that suddenly had broken the gnome themes and stuff like that. Just by running from a shell "gnome-settings-daemon" I saw the following error:
The error was 'XI_BadClass (invalid Class parameter)'.
    (Details: serial 158 error_code 133 request_code 131 minor_code 6)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
So I ran gnome-settings-daemon with the --sync parameter:
** (gnome-settings-daemon:9066): WARNING **: Unable to start xrandr manager: unhandled X error while getting the range of screen sizes
[pega@rei ~]$ The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'XI_BadClass (invalid Class parameter)'.
    (Details: serial 221 error_code 133 request_code 131 minor_code 6)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.

option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
    A quick googling about XI_BadClass led me to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunt … bug/409621. Browsing a bit I found this: http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/opensu … 86_64.html.
The point is that I just want to try the latest version (or at least that version) of libxklavier. The problem is that i don't want to go the ./configure && make && make install way, for my system's cleanliness sake. I looked for libxklavier in ABS but i found the 3.9 version.
Can you give me a hint?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul.

Thanks AndyRTR, I managed to install the 4.0 version modifying the PKGBUILD from ABS. After a reboot (I'd got to be sure) I accessed again my box from NX and gnome-settings-daemon seemed to work fine at least in aspect (it loaded the gnome themes) but it spitted out this:
** (gnome-settings-daemon:5100): WARNING **: Unable to start xrandr manager: unhandled X error while getting the range of screen sizes
** (gnome-settings-daemon:5100): WARNING **: libxklavier.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
** (gnome-settings-daemon:5100): WARNING **: Cannot load plugin 'Keyboard' since file '/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-2.0/libkeyboard.so' cannot be read.
** (gnome-settings-daemon:5100): WARNING **: Error activating plugin 'Keyboard'
So I just wanted to be sure that my layout were working (I'm using OpenBox without the startup script):
    [pega@rei ~]$ setxkbmap us intl
    [pega@rei ~]$ á
As you can see the layout is working fine. So, what's happening here?
    Thanks!
    Update:
I thought I could sing victory but I left my box alone a bit and when gnome-screensaver activated itself, just went crazy. At any mouse movement or typing any single key, the screen blinked alternating black with the default (green) gnome wallpaper. To recover my computer's control I had to kill gnome-screensaver from a tty; also, I noticed that the layout was broken too (it was reset to default 'us').
So I'm rollbacking right now until knowing more about how to workaround this.
