Hopefully this is a newb problem and easily fixed!

I cannot access my iTunes AT ALL. Everytime I try to open it a window pops up that says: "The iTunes Library Extras.it.db file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I've changed the permission settings and even uninstalled/re-installed iTunes but to no avail.
This is really annoying! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Scott

  • Hp smart web printing does not work on firefox. HP says this is not their problem and to contact Mozilla. Is there a plug in available?

I just bought a new hp printer. the software has a feature called HP web smart printing. The feature works on explorer but not on Firefox. HP says this is not their problem and suggested I contact Mozilla. Is an add on available and if not will one be made available.
I am using v. 3.6.13. and the printer is HP Officejet 4500.

HP smart web printing is an application that only works with IE. In spite of what HP have told you, if they want their application to work with Firefox they will need to make a version for Firefox. It is not down to Mozilla to make a version of the HP software for Firefox.

  • When I open a second Firefox browser window, the URL address window, instead of showing the URL, says "Go to a Web Site;" also, and more importantly, the "back" button is greyed out. This is a new problem, and the first Firefox window I open works fine.

After I open the first Firefox browser window, any additional window I open does not open my homepage, but opens a blank page with "New Tab" showing on the tab. An orange "Firefox" tab with a drop down arrow shows at the upper left hand corner of the screen. All of the options (File, Edit, etc.) are greyed out, however they will work if you move your cursor over them.
The URL address window says "Go to a Web Site". After I've gone to a website, the back button remains greyed out and I am not able to go back to a previous page. My RoboForm and Netcraft toolbars only show up in an abbreviate form. The add-on bar doesn't show up at all.
Again, this is a recent problem, and only happens after I've opened one browser window (which works fine) and then open additional browser windows (as few as one additional).

I had this same problem. Seems to be caused by the web developer tool bar FF extension (this started happening after a recent update to that extension). After disabling it, my FF is back to normal :)

This is a new problem and was not the case before.

Works perfectly fine for me with the latest Reader version (11.0.09).
You write that it worked "before"; before what?  An update?  Update from what version to what version?

  • Hopefully this will help someone - Erratic and unpredictable render results

This may be a known anomaly, but a quick search in the forum didn't return a hit for me, so I thought I would post my experience for anyone who may be experiencing the same thing.
For quite some time, I have been experiencing unpredictable and erratic results when rendering selected clips in a timeline. I shoot and edit 720p30 and 720p24 formats. The erratic results presented themselves when playing, although scrubbing through with the play curser looked fine. The results included freeze framing, flickering between clips, etc. I could never duplicate the problem twice in the same spot on the same clip. Sometimes, even previously rendered clips that were playing correctly would become “corrupt” when a render took place on the timeline. It seemed that it may happen with more frequency on clips with motion blur and time warping, but I had no data to back that up. It seemed that when I noticed it happening, I could activate the system monitor and see that "used memory" (the blue slice) had completely filled the 8GB pie chart. It was extremely frustrating.
Finally, I noticed a correlation with the render anomalies and one certain setting. Most of the time I edit, I am using an external HD monitor attached to BlackMagic video out (you can see my complete system config in my profile). Occasionally, I wouldn't use the monitor and set view>external video>off. I noticed that when I have view>external video turned "off", I NEVER get the render problem. After noticing this, I tested it extensively and always got the same result. So, now I use the external monitor for color grading in Color and for final review of the timeline. When editing, I just remember to turn external video off and use the FCP canvas. So far, the work around has worked flawlessly.
Although I still do not know what the reason is, if you are experiencing the same render anomalies and have view>external video set to "all frames", try turning it off, delete your render files for that sequence, render again, and I'll just BET your problems go away.
    Hope this helps someone.

Wow! This is E X A C T L Y like the problem I've been having. I've sent through a few posts asking for help and although I've received plenty of help, this is spot on the button. Thank-you, thank-you! I've just tested it and your workaround works!
I also thought it was a corrupt clip and have tried to repeat it but no luck. However, I have found that when I switch off the edit monitor for a viewing for client approval, the flickering you described happens in my canvas. Just done a test with that and gone view>external video>off and I don't have to restart. Thanks for the help!!
    Cheers,
    Susan.

  • Error 4310 STILL a major problem, why? What is the fix? This is YEARS old problem.. Fix it Apple

Do a site search for 4310, page after page after page of the problem and no real fix that I was able to find. Not only with Window 8 or 8.1 but with earlier versions as well, multiple brands of PC's and burners.. I have Asus G75VW, latest updates for 64 bit Windows 8.1 (same problem when running 8.0), just did a reinstall of windows, newest version of itunes, able to burn CD's using Nero, imageburn, Media Player, Roxio; BUT NOT FROM ITUNES..

You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
    (i) Page thumbnails (default)
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    (ii) Blank tab
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    (iii) Built-in Firefox home page
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    (iv) Any other page
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • I have a Mac with OS 10 5.8 and a new HP Pro 8500 Premier Printer. When printing, how do I change the print option from photo paper to plain or inkjet? This is a serious problem and HP tells me it is a problem with Firefox, that they are getting several

I used to be able to choose print options with Firefox and now I can't. It forces me to use photo paper when I want only to use plain paper. I do not have this problem with Safari or IE, just firefox. I have an office jet 4500 HP printer

I should add that it's an HP photosmart 4280.I found it online and it shows the Mac 0SX operating system.

  • On my Mac, in Documents folders A-G have gone missing.  When I try to access the backup in time machine, it won't let me go back at all.  This is a major problem and I have no idea what happened or how to fix it!

All folders up to "H" have gone missing and for some reason when I go into Time Machine, I'm not able to access any of the backups.  It won't let me select any of the screens behind the current one and when I click on the right hand side on any of the dates listed, nothing happens.  I really need to get this fixed.  Any help????

I don't know what will help at this point. You should never update a system that has problems, unless you're absolutely sure that the problems are caused by a bug that is fixed in the update. With your backups in an uncertain state, you should not update or do anything else except start a new backup.

  • Hopefully this is a simple problem....

I opened up my iTunes this morning to rip more music into it, and my iTunes was completely empty. It had all of the original folders along the left hand side that come when you first install iTunes - it was as if I had never opened iTunes before. My computer shut itself down last night (dontcha just love it when that happens??!) and I was in iTunes when it happened, but that has happened before and I've never had iTunes try to wipe itself out like this.
I went into My Docs -> My Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music, and sure enough, all of my music was in there. Which I was eternally glad to see, because I thought for a moment that all of my music had been completely erased. It's there, iTunes just isn't seeing it, and I don't know why.
When it comes to iTunes, I've never really messed around with it at all - I just ripped music, rated it, and called it good. So I'm rather in the dark when it comes to knowing how it works, where the music is stored at, etc.
I would really like to have everything back to the way it was before, if at all possible. If I have to go through and rerate 7 days worth of music, I will - it's better than losing the music altogether - but of course the best case scenario would be to get my iTunes back to the way it was yesterday. I hope to hear from somebody soon.
    Thank you very much,
    Havs

Thank you so much for your help. I went ahead and just used your last solution, and did Add Folder to bring all of my music back. It seemed the simplest solution. I did do a backup of my computer onto an external hard drive, but it was a month ago, and I have added a lot of music since then, which I didn't want to lose by restoring my last back up. I'd rather rerate my music than rip 50+ CDs again.
The irony is, the night my computer shut itself off and corrupted iTunes, I had thought before any of that happened, "I need to do another backup of my computer. I'd sure hate it if I lost all my music." Then I told myself that nothing was going to happen to my music, and that I needed to stop worrying. I decided I'd just do a backup the next day. The next day, iTunes was corrupted. Gotta love it....
Anyway, I'm off to start rerating my music. Thank you very much for your help. I truly appreciate it.

  • My iTunes match on my MacBook Pro hasn't worked since Mountain Lion install. Tried Apple Tech but all their suggestions didn't solve the issue. Guess I will try them again on Monday. Clearly this is a common problem and a Mountian Lion conflict issue.

iTunes match hasn't worked since Mountain Lion install. Cloud icon keeps striking~ off. Won't upload new tracks to iTunes match. Just the eternal circle of step one, two, freeze....then tries again but never gets completed. Worked fine before Mountain Lion. Apple tech tried over phone for an hour but it didn't solve this issue. See others are in the same boat. Any help with this, please??

Same issue here with a MacBook pro recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I hadn't tried iTunes Match prior to the upgrade so can't say whether or not it worked previously.
    Getting quite frustrated!

  • I had a problem for over a year and now it's fixed. Does anyone know what caused the problem and what fixed it?

    Here's the original problem
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/890221?esab=a&s=&r=2&as=s
It seems to have finally been fixed in firefox 22 (or 21). I'd love to know what the original cause of the problem was and whether it was fixed by firefox or OS X

I dont think any bugs were filed like this, likely something Apple fixed.

  • Imac 27'' problems and no fix???

Hi i will start by saying this will sound like a moan but trust me it needs to heard to be believed.
The last 12 months i have owned 1 refurbished Imac 24" 1 new Imac 24" and 6 imac 27'' machines.
Every one of these machines have been faulty and I have had replacements and upgrades all have been faulty. Upgrades i might add have been out of my pocket. Apple replaced same value items at no cost to me i chose to pay more on the basis that the better machines would have a better chance of being fault free. But i was very wrong.
Now Im writing this post at 6am and have a deadline for work that i can not do on my 7th new imac. I cant keep giving back my machines to the store and wait for a new machine i have lost real money every-time i send one back not to mention the faults that disable basic performance.
Here is a list of the current problems with this imac 27'' 2.8GHz Inter Core i5
DVD player can not play discs for a prolonged period of time (general error message comes up stops the program apple dvd play and vlc)
    Data DVD cannot be burned
when disks are put into the machine they become scratched and this is particularly frustrating when it is software that i can afford to replace.
When DVDs are burned they are burned corrupt you can not play the entire video on the disks, on any player.
overall performance is slow. despite free space of 700gb.
My question is what do i do next?
    Advice is much needed.

The only discs that will work are the ones that should have come with the computer. If the vendor doesn't have them, call Apple at (800) 275-2237 and ask for a set to be sent to you. Be specific as to the exact model and they will replace them for a nominal fee. If possible, go after the person /store which sold it to you and insist they give you the discs! If it was through eBay, lodge a complaint with Paypal, unless it was specifically stated that there were no discs.
Let us know what happens please,
    Miriam

  • When I hook my ipod to computer it reads: there is a problem with this drive scan the drivenow and fit it (F) it doesnt work

when I hook up ipod up to to itunes it reads:  IP F  There is a problem with this drive.  scan the drive now and fix it.   When I do this, nothing happens.

    Hello,
I found the same issue. I have an iPod Classic 160 GB (Black) bought in April 2013. I'm using a Windows 8 Laptop bought in August 2014.
This is my account of this problem and why I think customers should just ignore the pop-up, but Apple (and possibly with Microsoft/Windows) should look at the issue.
Recently (approximately from early February 2015), when I connect the iPod to my computer I get a message saying there is a problem with the drive and it needs to be scanned and fixed. In full the message reads:
There's a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it.
This message appears very shortly and then immediately (once the message disappears, is clicked on, or x-d) brings up Windows File Explorer on the drive and its containing visible folders: which tells me nothing (though it can clearly open it and look at the files not locked to iTunes)
Other than this, the iPod seems to connect properly and work fine. iTunes (ver: 12.1.0.71 64bit) seems to find no issue. The iPod runs fine, it syncs properly (all of my music and podcasts). It responds as it always has and works for hours.
I did some troubleshooting: first on the wire, trying all ports and using an alternative, then on my laptop (all usb ports with other connectors and device drivers) and some basic testing of the iPod and iTunes. All of these seemed fine to me, no issue whatsoever other than the message every time I connect the iPod. So I just ignored it for a while.
Anyway, eventually I got curious (and had some more free time to look at it) and let Windows 8 do what it wanted (scan and fix the drive). Clearly the iPod works fine, and I have nothing important on it that isn't on my computer, so at worst Windows will break the software and I'd have to reformat the drive through iTunes (and Restore to Factory Settings) which I feel fine doing. I also took note of all of my settings on the iPod (like EQ, and the way I laid out the menus etc...) so I can redo those from defaults.
Prior to doing this, the iPod was version 2.0.5 (the latest version).
When I set the drive to be scanned, windows told me it identified the problem and would fix it. I don't remember the exact wording, as this message was immediately obscured by a pop-up telling me the drive was in use and software using it should be closed. So I closed iTunes which in turn caused the pop-up and message to disappear.
Windows then said it had succeeded and brought up the File Explorer of the drive again (now with some folders missing). When I loaded iTunes back up, it told me there was a problem with the iPod and it would need to be restored. Ejecting the iPod showed that it seemed to believe it had no content on it.
So I restored the iPod through iTunes, downloading the latest iPod update again and started syncing the iPod. After adding a couple songs, I ejected it and played them - they worked fine, the menus had returned to defaults but I quickly changed them to how I liked and overall the iPod is back to how it was. I've now set it to sync the remaining thousands of songs (and couple hundred podcasts). Edit - by the end of this post, this has finished copying Music, Podcasts, and Playlists. It's back to exactly how it was before.
Annoyingly, this has not removed the pop-up message when I connect the iPod, still the same as before - the most irksome thing being the file window opening every time i connect the iPod, though this is still minor (I just have to remember that this will happen and manually close it each time).
So I'm at a loss on the cause, and am going to return to ignore it. I'd greatly appreciate if Apple could look into this. I'm wondering if it is a recent update to iTunes or to Windows, but I don't trust that I won't be able to undo changes if I myself began looking through them (and I lack the time and expertise to do that effectively). I think there might be that Windows is detecting something in the way that Apple formats their iPod drives that it believes is an issue (even when it isn't). My guess is the way of formatting is unchanged (the iPod hadn't received an update recently to suggest and alteration to this) but maybe the things Windows is looking for may have slightly changed and disagrees with Apple's way of keeping the iPod Drive proprietary to iTunes.
TL,DR: Advice to others (and Ljchicago) searching this topic is to ignore the message for now.
    Thanks,
    Dixavd

  • The time limits on the parental controls do not work. Apple does not seem to know how to fix this issue since the problem has been going on since at least leopard.

The time limits in the parental controls do not work. I have several mac systems and they do not work on all of them. Also, I have had this problem since at least snow leopard and it is very frustrating that Apple is unable to fix a simple issue like this. All they have to do is somehow 'hard-wire' the time limits to the system clock but they are not listening. I used the feed-back feature in their support webpage and hopefully everybody else experiencing this issue will too. Thus, if they get a thousand notes on this issue they might listen and finally fix it.

Well, the whole system with those time limits are funky. Sometime this happens, sometime that happens. When the user is on the bed time limits do not work nor do the length of time limits. It is very frustrating as one of the reasons I bought an apple in the first place was those parental controls which did not exist in Windows prior to Windows 7. I do have a Windows 7 machine now and the bed time limits work there. Maybe you have a Windows 7 machine as well and can let them use it.
