Hosting an Oracle Forms Website

Hi. I'm looking for a hosting service that might allow me to provide internet access to about 1,000 folks around the U.S. I'd want these folks to be able to run a few of my Oracle web forms and store data in a small Oracle database. Then daily I would export the data and load it to our larger intranet Oracle database. Does anyone know of a business that could provide me such a service?

Actually, the red tape in openning a server to the internet is simply overwhelming at our workplace. So I'm looking for a third-party provided that could host. Do you know of any?

  • How to retrieve information on UNIX Host from oracle Forms

    Hi,
    Has anybody tried to retrieve manipulated information
    on the Unix Server From the oracle forms running on a client ?.
    If it is to be done by user exit and calling the pro*c code
    then where should the pro*c code exist ?. on server or on client.
    1. If on server then can that code return the value to form ?.
    2. If on client then can that code access the unix server and
    return the value ?..
    OR
    any other method or tool to do the above.

    I can only tell you what we've done for our system. We have
    client applications which need to send/recv information from the
    UNIX server (report submission, etc.)
    We have a deamon (written in PRO*C) which runs on the UNIX
    server. This deamon constantly monitors a pipe (using the
    DBMS_PIPE package available with ORACLE 7.1). The client apps.
    send requests through this pipe and wait for the server deamon to
    process the request and send responses down a "return pipe".
    This approach has served us well.
    With ORACLE 8, you can (according to what I've read) link
    external object modules (similar to ORA_FFI on the client), which
    would make these OS specific functions available to the database
    developer via PL/SQL but we're just now looking at ORACLE 8 so I
    have no first hand experience with this.

  • Host('sqlldr') is not working in oracle forms 10g

    oracle database version:10.1.2.0
    oracle forms version:10g
    client ans server are on the same machine.
    when i am trying to load the file in to oracle,i wrote the when-button-pressed trigger as
    host('sqlldr');
    when i run the form its not giving any result.
    i tried by using batch file also itn is giveing the error like
    message 2100 not found

    What happens when you run "SQLLDR" from a command window? It sounds like the directory where the SQLLDR executable is located is not in your PATH. You can either add it to your path or fully qualify the path to the executable as Christian suggests.

    so help

    JavaBean does d othe job for you but it requires signing process; I used it when I was working on forms6i for our project.
    I could use another approach that is the file type command executable which it stays in client's PC to do it and it does not requires signing at all since I am now working on the Java EE project for downloading and launching the third party tool in client's PC.
    I plan to write a article for forms use, which could do all the heavy WebUtil can do, but not need to go thru the signing process.

    I was running this form out of Form Builder 10g. At some point I changed the Application Server URL (Edit => Preferences => Runtime menus) from:
    http://ssbuechl2.div16.ibm.com:8889/forms/frmservlet?config=ttmsmenu
    to:
    http://ssbuechl2.div16.ibm.com:8889/forms/frmservlet?
    So my customized configuration with all the WebUtil references was not being referenced and I was getting the error.
    Dumb dumb dumb.

    Amy,
    There is sample code on OTN that allows you to fetch client information such as the IP Address with Forms 6i. Here is the link:[Get Client Information|http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/products/forms/6idemos.html]
    Hope this helps.

  • Hide user/pwd when  running sqlplus job via HOST cmd in oracle forms

    I have a oracle procedure that returns the run_command string. Ex . ‘sqlplus ui/pwd @report.sql’. The run_command string returned by the procedure is run via the HOST command in oracle Forms.
    HOST(run_command) submits the job but it exposes the ui and pa that is used in the run_command string. On UNIX, if I do ps –ef | grep sqlplus after the job is submitted by the HOST command, I can see the ui/pwd in the run_command.
    How can I submit the job via HOST command without exposing the ui/pwd ?
    Thanks
    GP

    Of course, the Operating System Authenticated account method should only be used if you are running this job on the machine with that's running the Oracle instance. You absolutely do not want to turn on remote authentication. If you're not on the same machine, I would suggest you put the credentials in a file and secure it with filesystem privileges. I generally use a single generic script initiator that logs on and then runs some other script specified on the command line. Something like ...
    username/password
    @&1Note: the extra "--/--" lines ensure that the script fails with invalid login if the credentials are wrong but they get interpreted as comments if the logon succeeds.

  • HOST Command in oracle forms 10g

    Hi,
    I need to use HOST command to run an OS(Unix) command in Oracle Forms 10g.
    Its throwing a non-oracle exception during run time.
    Is there any kind of configuration/settings that I need to check before using HOST command?
    Is there any way to capture the error description?
    Any help will be highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ankit

    Thanks Thangaraj for your valuable suggestion!!
    One question though..
    Should'nt ORACLE_HOME be an absolute path?
    I have added "/bin" in FORMS_PATH but not sure if we can do the same with ORACLE_HOME.
    Can you please suggest?
    Regards,
    Ankit

  • Host command in oracle forms

    can anyone any one help me on this issue
    i am trying to use host command in a.s which is running in unix o.s to rename one of the file i am using the below command but its not working . can any one tell me whats worng or how to perform this
    the_command := 'mv /dir/filename1 /dir/filename2' ;
         HOST(the_command,NO_SCREEN);

    I don't think you can do this with host like you did.
    You can create a script which accepts filename1 and filename2 as parameters and call this
    move.sh:
    mv $1 $2
    then call the script
    host('/home/oracle/move.sh /dir/filename1 /dir/filename2', no_screen);
    or if this doesn't work (in windows it works in 6i to call .cmd files without prefixing cmd /c don't know if this is also in unix, but you can try), you can call bash to do this
    host('/bin/bash /home/oracle/and_so_on

    hi user ...
    on windows there are some steps in front of installation and configuration.
    1) cleare the Windows Env (Path .. Programme x86 )
         no Blank in Path and so on
    2) insert into your local host file your server and IP Adress
    3) in Windows 32 setup of WLS is JDK included so you don't have to install the jdk in front of WLS
    4) verify if you are using the right installation medium (jdk 32 bit, wls 32 bit , fmw 32 bit
    in your OraInventory/logs directory is a *.out file for your installation please can you put this file in the forum
    is there a nodemanager up and running (if so please stop)

  • How to improve performance of Oracle Forms Server ?

    Recently we converted our Application which was Developed in Forms 5.0 and Reports 3.0 into Forms6i to host that on to Web. We also loaded ORACLE 9iAS (on Windows NT 4 with service pack 3) from "Enterprise Edition" option by selecting Oracle Database Cache, Forms Server and Reports Server, HTTP Server(on port 80),Oracle Web Cache. Everything loaded succesfully including Caches.
    Forms server is working perfectly and we were able to run our Application in Browser, but performance is the issue. We thought the caches will improve the performance, but it seems they are not at all working. When we run a report or form the Database cache is not giving any statistics whether a particular Query is a Hit or Miss though the cache is running. We got a doubt and searched in FAQ's and we found the following questions.
    Oracle9iAS Web Cache Frequently Asked
    Questions February 2001
    Does Oracle9iAS Web Cache work with applications that use Oracle9iAS Forms?
    Not in the 1.x release of Oracle9iAS. Integration between Oracle9iAS Web Cache and Oracle9iAS Forms will be addressed at a future date.
    Oracle9iAS Database Cache
    Does the Cache work with Oracle Forms and Portal in Oracle9i AS?
    Since Oracle Forms and Portal utilize read/write PL/SQL stored procedures, these components cannot take advantage of the Cache. This support is being considered for a future version.
    After coming to know that Caches doesnot boost the performance of Oracle Forms and reports. We have the following queries.
    1) Clarify whether the above are True.
    2) Apart from DB and Web Cache is there any other way where in we can improve the performance of Oracle Forms and Reports in Forms Server including the start up time.
    3) What is the ideal configuration required for each tier (iAS Server,Database Server and Client) to host Forms on to Web considering our application as Medium scale.
    (Presently our configuration are,
    Application Server Configuration : Windows NT 4 with service pack 3,256 MB RAM,1 GB Virtual memory and 4GB free space and almost the same configuration is being used for
    Database Configuration.
    Client Configuration : Windows 98 with 64MB RAM).
    4) Is there any way to track the performance and know the problem areas like TRACE.
    Gopi Kumar
    null

    A couple of questions for you:
    1) What version of IAS are you using?
    2) What's the version of Forms&Reports and
    3) What version of patch are you using if any
    for forms&Reports?
    4) What applications are you running on the
    machine where Forms&Reports is installed?
    (I mean non-Oracle applications?)
    The problem could be that, the base addresses
    of the DLL's in Forms&Reports could be having base address conflicts with some other application's DLL's.
    Forms and Reports needs to be fully rebased to achieve full performance on NT. Before release of Forms and Reports, Oracle rebases all DLLs. Rebasing assigns unique base addresses to all of the DLL's in use by an executable. A properly based DLL will load at its preferred base address, greatly improving the efficiency of memory utilization and the runtime performance of the executable.
    Multiple utilities are available on NT to verify proper rebasing of DLLs. HandleEx v4.0 is one such freeware from Sysinternals and is available at www.sysinternals.com. Some others are "depends.exe" that's part of the MS Visual Studio or msinfo32.exe that comes with Office 2000 on NT.
    If after running any of these utilities you discover that the DLL's ar not properly rebased, you need to contact Oracle worldwide support.
    If you find that rebasing is not the problem, then please post your feedback again. Hope this helps.

  • Printing a Oracle PDF Report from within a Oracle Form on Linux

    Is there a command I can use in Oracle Forms to invoke a shell script to open a PDF output report stored on a physical location on the Linux server and print it to the printer?
    What I'm currently trying to do is send a Report called within Oracle Forms 10g to "DESTYPE=FILE DESFORMAT=PDF DESNAME=directory/filename.pdf". I'm storing all the information about the file and printer information prior to it being run with the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT. What I want to happen is as soon as it finishes generating the file, I want (behind the scenes) is it to locate the file, open, and print it automatically, but never show the output to the user on the screen.
    I know with the "DESTYPE=cache DESNAME=filename DESFORMAT=PDF" that it puts the info in the Reports Server / Cache directory, but also opens it in a separate browser window of which you can select the printer at that point. I don't want to do that in this option.
    I previously tried to use the "DESTYPE=printer" option but, the issue with it has to deal with fonts. I do not want to store fonts on every printer, given the different types of printers our users have. I can print to the printer but the fonts are all messed up so, not an option.
    So, basically I'm trying to replace that option with generating to a PDF, then I don't have to worry about fonts, since I have them all working, then I can just open the PDF file on the server and send to the printer. I was wondering if that is an option available in Oracle Forms when calling reports. I figured that when someone sends the option of "DESTYPE=printer" that it must be calling some shell script on Linux that handles this. I'm just not seeing it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Chris

    Ok, one final question because I want to see how far this can go.
    Can I issue this command via the HOST inside the form? Basically I'm telling it to open and send the file to the printer. The vFileName is the directory/filename stored on the Linux Server. I can execute this command on the command line of Linux and it works
    HOST( 'lpr -P gt-ybs-ps /u11/app/as10g/tools/web/html/pc_rp00120100210035258.pdf');
    I promise this is my last quesion.

  • How to Call a jasper report from Oracle Forms 6i.

    Hi
    Can anybody tel me how to Call a jasper report from ORacle Forms 6i.
    Thanks & Regards
    Bango

    Forms 6i client/server? Use the HOST command to call the report. Since a Jasper report is just a call to a url, it will be something like:
    v_url := '<your url to the report>';
    host ('cmd /c start '||v_url);If it's web Forms 6i it even easier. Just use web.show_document(<url>).

  • Oracle forms 10g (win Xp middle tier IE 8             Win 7- IE 8 client)

    forms services 10.1.2.0.2
    Database 11gR2 also on Win Xp pro SP3
    Hi
    I have a problem with java and Jinitiator and my understanding of what is / should be happening.
    In the file forms/server/formsweb.cfg see below. I can alter the parameter
    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm
    ###baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
    between the two alternatives. As it stands as shown the IE8 on the middle tier and on the database PC both work as near correctly as i can tell. On the Win 7 client IE 8 however crashes. switch it to the other way around and the
    win 7 works and the win xp on the database server stops with frm-92095 error version number too low. while on the middle tier Xp PC a blank doucument is displayed.
    How can i have both working at the same time please. I you need more information i will happily supply it.

    You have a mixture of problems here.
    1. Oracle Jinitiator is not supported for use on Windows 7
    2. JRE 1.7 is not supported for use with any version of Forms on any platform. Be sure you do not have this version installed.
    3. JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0.2, however is supported with 10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622) and only with IE 8
    4. In order to use Win 7 with Forms 10 in a certified and supported manner, you must use 10.1.2.3 (meaning 10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622).
    In short, my recommendation would be the following:
    o Patch to 10.1.2.3 (assuming you have access to MyOracleSupport)
    o Don't bother trying to use Oracle Jinitiator as it is old and has been desupported for a long time.
    o Uninstall any instances of Jinitiator as it can cause conflicts with other JRE installations.
    o Uninstall all instances of JRE 1.7. Reconfig your formsweb.cfg to use the JRE (Java Plugin) 1.6.0

  • Using vba in Oracle Forms 6i

    Hello
    I'm working with Oracle Forms 6i and I need to check if a certain folder exists before I make an action, I think there's no way to do it with Oracle Forms only, so I tough doing it with vba.
    Is there some controller that allow me to use vba in Oracle Forms? Or maybe I can do this another way.
    Thanks

    You can use this piece of code to check if a directory exists:
    declare
      l_hostcommand  varchar2(1000);
      l_dir          varchar2(200) := 'f:\oracle';
    begin
      l_hostcommand := 'cmd /c if not exist '||l_dir||' exit 100';
      host(l_hostcommand, no_screen);
      if form_success then
        message('Directory found');
      else
        message('Directory not found');
      end if;
    end;   If you have no drive mapping, just use UNC (\\server\oracle).
