Hosting obiee, database, and storage

I have a client that would like to host obiee in the cloud. It sounds like they would need the database and storage cloud service. They would like to host these in the cloud and have an obiee instance running against it, what would be the best approach? Is the data and insight cloud service built on obiee? If so, would they get the same access as if they installed in locally?
Best,
Greg

Data and Insight is not built on OBIEE. We currently do not offer OBIEE on the cloud.

  • Oracle Databases and Storage Systems like HP EVA

    Hi everybody,
are there generel advantages or disadvantages using such storage systems?
I would be happy if somebody could talk about his experience using such systems.
Is there better/less performance with Oracle Databases? Better/less Security for my Data instead of using a local raid 5/1+0 for example? Or anything else I should now before using such a storage system.
What type of storage are you using? What type of disks would be the best (scsi/fata) ?
Please talk with me a little bit about your experience with storage systems and Oracle Databases ;-)
    Thank you

Greate to meet another DBA in forum. The big problem we will face is SQL Tune.
Nothing much Diffnt supporting SAP.SAP PRovided some ready made tools to monitor and to solve.Reg tuning still we can follow same methoda but with approval from SAP or by ref SAP notes.Which u can find at service market place.
You can find some PDfs in sap market place and sdn.Which are ex'ly for DBas.
Reg Growth rate you can have a look on sap transactions and there are some notes also.I dont think there is specific Book or Doc which will say Dos and donts.
Performance we used to follow same methoda as a Dbas with ref of sap notes and support for any side effects.

  • Is "sp_purge_data" available only to datawarehouses or can it be used with both a normal database and Azure storage as well ?

Is "sp_purge_data" available only to datawarehouses or can it be used with both a normal database  and Azure storage as well ?

Thank you for the reply Qiuyun , the article was really helpful!
I do have couple of other questions for you :
How do we execute our SQL queries on Windows Azure tables and create horizontal partitions ? (I know that we have our SQL Server management Studio to execute normal queries on a SQL database , do we have a similar platform for Azure or do we have to get a local
copy of the database to execute our queries and the  publish everything back to Azure)? I am looking to partition data on one of our databases and would like to know if it can be done in Azure directly or if we have to bring a local copy down ,write the
    partition function and
and partition scheme or create a partition key and a row key - do the needful and publish it back to Azure?
Also, how do I create a partition key and row key in Windows Azure?
I am in the process of designing data archiving strategy for my team and would like to know more about the questions I just mentioned.
Hoping to hear back from you soon.
Thanks in advance for all the help!

  • Choose right database and hosting provider

Can anybody recomend me the best open-source free database for a web application ?
And any hosting company for this database and jsps ?
    Thanks

A lot of people use mySQL, and I've heard good things about it. Dunno on the hosting company.

  • Muse databases and customer uploads

    A 'tricky' website challenge
Firstly, many thanks to Adobe for the great CC Trial.
As a starter in building websites I am running Adobe Muse CC Trial and I am considering using it (and perhaps other programmes in the subscription CC package) to create an e-commerce site. I'm very impressed with the Muse functionality, especially for a beginner like me but there are numerous questions that I need answers to...and I can't find any Adobe documents that answer them. Can anyone help please?
At this stage I don't want to get into fine-grained detail on a complete specification so I hope the folowing suffices to give a reasonable idea.
    AIM
The website is to provide visitors/customers with a "customer space" to upload, store and view photos, videos together with their descriptions. All to be made either private by the use of individual customer passwords or publicly viewable without any special permissions needed.
As additional features each of the above "customer space" of the site must be:
indexed so that it can be searched and found via unique indexed fields such as name address, date and others (to be decided)
visitors can search for, locate and view the "customer space" and then add their comments in what would be a "visitor or guest book"
My purposes in this short enquiry are are to:
find out if the basic concept is do-able - all within Adobe Muse
find out if Adobe's hosting will accommodate the site given that data storage and transactions, online queries/traffic etc. might eventually be substantial...but obviously zero to start with
discover what database Adobe uses in its servers as part of its hosting service e.g.mySQL or other
how to secure the site so that 'customer uploads' can filter out malware and only allow uploads from bona fide customers
identify what other software packages I would need to build the above i.e. database and/or other programmes
establish Adobe's standard and/or other hosting Service Levels and associated business agreements
If anyone can point me in the right direction regarding the above and any other relevant advice I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Mike
p.s. As a constructive comment: I find it strange that while Adobe is promoting its excellent products, it seems to rely on a forum to answer questions such as those I have asked above. But then, maybe Adobe has published relevant docs online and I just haven't been able to find them.

Moved from Cloud forum to Muse forum to get input from Muse users.

  • Reference to database and/or server name in '' is not supported in this version of SQL Server

    Hello all
    I am using C# and ADO.NET (native) - Visual Studio 2013.
I am always using full qualified queries like "SELECT * FROM [database].[schema].[table]"
Obviously there is a problem when doing this against SQL Azure,
I get the following error: "Reference to database and/or server name in '' is not supported in this version of SQL Server"
Interesting fact: With SQL Management Studio, the same query works.
I need to know if this error is really a true one or not.
If yes, I can quit using SQL Azure. I would need a SQL Server and not a partial SQL Server :-)
    Thanks and best regards
    Frank

    Hi,
    Here are my suggestions:
    1. Use partially qualified queries, because:
    a. from a security standpoint, you'd want to limit your login's access across the server instance
    b. in order to achieve a even better, you should specify your database as the Initial Catalog directly in the SQL Connection.
If you take into account these practices, SQL Database doesn't come with any limitation from that point of view.
However, in regard to 'With SQL Management Studio, the same query works', this is actually only partially true because if you run that query agains ADO.NET, you'll actually end up in switching databases along the query which is obviously not permitted in
SQL Database since you're running in a hosted black-box version of SQL you're not managing. It's just like running the USE <dbname> command which obviously doesn't work.

  • Questions on photos and storage

I have a few questions about photos and storage... If you can just answer one of these, that's fine and thanks for the help!
How do I see how much space my iPhoto photos are taking on my hardrive?
I have Time machine which backs up, but concerned that I'm getting too many pictures.  When I do "Get Info" on the hardrive it says 640GB Capacity with 254GB used. I'm assuming that includes all my photos, and that Time machine only backs up and is not the active storage for those photos?
What is advisable for available GB space on this size computer?
I have my photos on the hardrive and the time machine, is it also advised to have in a cloud-based storage system to be safe? Or some other place.  Just checking what others do with this.

1 - it is a really good idea to start new threads with new questions - threadjacking a year old solved thread on a totally different subject will not provide the best coverage and the best answers
2 - Do NOT uncheck the option to copy imported items to the iPhoto library - it is a really, really bad idea that will create many problems for yo and has no advantages of any sort - see the user tip on file management in iPhoto for more details - iPhoto and File Management
3 - take the time to learn how to use iPhoto and the concept of using a database for management photos rather than a file based system like you are used to - it is much different and much more powerful - but there is a learning curve and a different thought process
4 - yes you can always export anything or everything from iPhoto for use on any other system - see the user tip on exporting for details - Exporting From iPhoto
5 - always remember that you never access your photos directly - iPhoto totally replaces the finder for managing your photos - see the user tip on accessing photos for more details - How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • Installation problems on Fresh 11.1.0.6 database and Apex 3.1.1

I hope someone can help - at wit's end trying to get Apex up and running. I've looked through the forum over and over and don't see a resolution.
I have installed 11g Enterprise Edition on a Solaris 5.10 64bit Sparc system, created a database, setup and configured dbconsole for enterprise manager.
Database is up, enterprise manager is up and I can connect and browse just fine, but when I went to set up and configure Apex (it was version 3.0 that came with the database) I could only get a blank page trying to go to either the apex or apex_admin pages.
So re-read documentation and couldn't see what I did wrong. So I started a new Apex install, dropping the FLOWS_030000 and FLOWS_FILES users, downloaded apex 311, and did a fresh install.
For the record, I'm trying to use the Embedded PL/SQL Gateway instead of the Oracle HTTP Server.
    Here are my steps:
Downloaded apex_3.1.1.zip, loaded it up on server, and unzipped the file

Still, when I go to my browser and enter the following url:
    http://dbsu01a.sit.us.wamu.net:7459/apex/apex_admin
all I get is a blank page.
    http://dbsu01a.sit.us.wamu.net:7459/apex
returns a "page not found" error.
It must be one of those "is your computer plugged in?" things - any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here was the fix:
My local_listener parameter in the init.ora (spfile) was not set. I ran the following as sys:
    alter system set local_listener='(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=<hostname>)(PORT=<port>))' scope=both;
Bounced the listener and the database and after about 3 minutes listener status showed the following new endpoint:
    Listening Endpoints Summary...
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<host>)(PORT=9969)))
(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<host>)(PORT=7459))(Presentation=HTTP)(Session=RAW)) <-- this is the XDB entry.
After that I was able to log into APEX!

  • Oracle 9I Database, and Mobile Server install history

    Dear Oracle technical representative:
This TAR started out as a true request for help in solving installation problems with Oracle 9i Release 2 Enterprise Edition, and Oracle 9i Mobile Server Release 5.0.1, but it has turned into a history of frustration with out of date, laconic, and often incorrect, and misleading documentation. As a software developer, I understand that documentation is always out of date, at least mine is. Nonetheless, I must speak my mind while understanding, and sympathizing with your situation.
I struggled through the documentation, and managed to get everything working. While I was doing that, I wrote down the step by step procedure that I used to get Database, and Mobile Server running. By sharing this rough install history with you, it is my hope that it will help prevent others from experiencing the same difficulties that I have had. It has been my observation that when a user has problems installing a trial software package they give up quickly, and do not purchase a copy. It is thus extremely important that the installation instructions, and quick start guide be accurate, attentive to detail, and well written. The first impression is the one that counts.
The Oracle 9i Lite Installation, and Configuration Guide for Windows NT shipped with Oracle 9i Lite Release 5.0.1 definitely requires, and emergency rewrite. It is terribly out of date, inaccurate, and laconic. My guess is that it is a very sloppy rewrite of poorly written 8i documentation. The Oracle 9i Database Installation Guide for Windows is somewhat better. It however should do a better job informing you that before installing onto a old server the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC), and VC runtime libraries must be up to date. The history describes the trouble with not having the MFC42.dll at version 6. Another corker is that the default port the installer presents is 2030, and not 1521, and that leads to major confusion in the both the Database, and Mobile Server installs.
Thank you for looking at the history. I hope that it will be of use to you when you update your documentation.

TAR for Oracle 9i Release 2 Database Enterprise Edition, and Oracle Lite Release 5.0.1 Mobile Server
Installation problems are highlighted in red.
    Installation sequence/history:
         1. Installed Windows NT 4.0 Server SP1 on Dell Power Edge 4300 dual x86 server to wipe the slate clean.
         2. Setup TCP/IP, and IPX/SPX networks
              Computer name YGGDRASILL
              Host name = YGGDRASILL
              Domain = CFR.MSSTATE.EDU
              Internet name = YGGDRASILL.CFR.MSSATE.EDU = 130.18.130.225
         3. Installed NT SP3, and Internet Explorer 4.01 from the NT 40 Options Pack CD as the gateway to installing MTS 2.0, and IIS 4.0.
         4. Installed MTS 2.0, and IIS 4.0 from NT 4.0 Optins Pack CD.
         5. Applied NT 4.0 SP6.
         6. Installed Internet Explorer 5.5 as a prerequisite to installing MADAC 2.6.
         7. Installed MDAC 2.6
         8. Installed Paint Shop Pro 7 for capturing error screens.
         9. As previous install errors stated that the ordinal function xxxx could not be found in MFC42.dll, the latest version (6.0.8665.0) of the dll was installed, and registered from MS VC++ SP5. Also I upgraded MSVCIRT.dll, MSVCRT.dll, MSCRT40.dll, and added MSVC60.dll from SP5 to be on the safe side.
According to the installation documents all the prerequisites for installing Oracle 9i Release 2 Database Enterprise Edition are satisfied.
         10. Began install of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition with target parameters:
              Home directory = D:\Oracle\Ora92
              Database directory = D:\Oracle\oradata
              Global database name = FIA.YGGDRASILL.CFR.MSSTATE.EDU
              Port = 2030
              SID = FIA
              SYSTEM Password = phwphw
              SYS Password = phwphw
              SCOTT Password = phwphw
DBSNMP Password = I left this one unassigned or empty.
tnsnames.ora entry for remote TCP/IP connection
              a. CD 1 of 3 load
                   1. Error writting to MFC42u.dll. Action ignore. A check indicated that MFC42u.dll version did not match the updated version of MFC42.dll. Plan is to update after install. Unicode version of MFC is probably not used by the installer.
              b. CD 1 completed with only one problem, and CD 2 load begins.
              c. CD 2 installed without incident., and CD 3 load begins, and completes without farther problems. The only issue to address at this time is to update the MFC42u.dll.
                   HTTP Server URLs
                        http://7778
                        https://4443
         12. Evaluation of install success begins.
              a. Oracle HTTP Service will not start. It is of particular interest that on installs that I do not upgrade the MFC42.dll the Oracle HTTP Service will start correctly, but during the install I get the error message Ordinal nnnn not found in MFC42.dll, and the Oracle MTS Recovery Service crashes during the install. I am caught between a rock and hard spot on this one. See the Figure 1. At the end of this document. I do not need the HTTP Server at this time but I will need it later and this issue must be resolved. It appears that it hangs during startup. I am sorry but I lost the ordinal number nnnn.
When I try to start the HTTP server from the Programs menu. It Hangs, and does not return an error message. See Figure 2, and the included Apache Setup.txt, the install log, and the HTTPd.conf . The conf, and setup files look OK to me. What is the problem?
              b. All other services start correctly.
              c. Logged into the database as SCOTT on the server with SQL Plus using the connection information:
                   FIA.CFR.MSSTATE.EDU =
                   (DESCRIPTION =
                   (ADDRESS_LIST =
                   (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = yggdrasill)(PORT = 1521))
                   (CONNECT_DATA =
                   (SERVER = DEDICATED)
                   (SERVICE_NAME = FIA.YGGDRASILL.CFR.MSSTATE.EDU)
I created some tables, inserted data, and queried for the data. Everthing seems to be working correctly.
              d. Logged in remotely from my AOL account on a dial-up line using Oracle 9i Release 2 Personal Edition installed on my ThinkPad. Every thing tested out as above. I used the connection information:
                   FIA.CFR.MSSTATE.EDU =
                   (DESCRIPTION =
                   (ADDRESS_LIST =
                   (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = yggdrasill.cfr.msstate.edu)(PORT = 1521))
                   (CONNECT_DATA =
                   (SERVER = DEDICATED)
                   (SERVICE_NAME = FIA.YGGDRASILL.CFR.MSSTATE.EDU)
         13. I concluded that except for the Oracle HTTP Server Service not starting correctly, and that after updating the MFC42u.dll to VC++ SP5 level the stage is set for installing Oracle 9i Mobile Server Release 5.0.1. I copied the MFC42u.dll to the server and registered it successfully.
         14. As Visual Studio 6.0 Professional updates all of the MFC stuff, I decides to install it at this juncture, and apply SP5.
         15. Installed JDK1.3.1 required for Oracle 9i Mobile Server Release 5.0.1
At this time the prerequisites for installing Oracle 9i Mobile Server Release 5.0.1 are satisfied, and MFC, and rt are at version 6.
It is important to note that after installing MS Visual Studio Professional 6.0 SP5, the HTTP server started working. It is clear that prior to installing Oracle Database it is essential that MFC, and possibly other components are upgraded before starting an installation of Oracle. This probably only applies to old NT servers, but it should be mentioned in the installation instructions.
         16. Attempt to install Oracle Mobile Server Release 5.0.1
              a. File locations Screen
                   Name: = OraLite501
                   Path: = D:\OraLite501
              b. Select Mobile Server at Installation Screen
              c. Mobile Server Repository Database Information Screen
                   Hostname = YGGDRASILL = hostname from tnsnames.ora
Port = 2030 = same as Database port
It is troublesome that the port in tsnames.ora is 1521, and not 2030 as was specified in the database install. I will try this port on the reinstall. On the retry, it worked. The problem was that I was mislead by the default port of 2030 at the database install. The database was actually installed on port 1521, and I was not given an error message, or warning. As I am a first time installer of Oracle products this threw me for a loop. The default port for the database needs to be 1521, if regardless of what the user specifies for a port you are going to install on port 1521.
Net Service Name = FIA.YGGDRASILL.CFR.MSSTATE.EDU = Global database name as required by installation instructions.
              d. Yes. At Do you want to install the Mobile Server Repository question.
              e. At Oracle Protocol Support, I checked the SPX box.
              f. Summary, and Install screens function to specifications.
              g. Mobile Server Repository Wizard
                   Database System password:
                        Password = phwphw
              h. Mobile Server Repository Wizard
                   Schema Name: fiafield
                   Password : fiafield
              i. Success at last with the install part. The problem was the wrong port number. See my above comments on this problem, and how Oracle could grease the skids for the next first time installer.
         j. I could not find the httpd.conf file in the place the install instructions said it should be for running the Mobile Server in Oracle HTTP Server. Since only one copy of httpd.conf existed, I added the include D:\OraLite501\mobile\server\bin\wtgias.conf to the bottom of the file assuming that it is the correct one. I the re-booted instead of using apache -k restart. The Oracle HTTP Server started, so there is hope. The install instructions state that the httpd.conf file would most likely be in the program files directory, when they are really installed in the Oracle Lite home directory.
         k. According to the documentation the Mobile Server should start when the Oracle HTTP Server starts with the wtgias.conf file added to the httpd.conf file. It does not. If I use Process Explorer, I know that Apache loaded the wtgias.conf, because both Apache.exe processes that are running have the wtgias.dll loaded. The facts are at this stage of the game are
              1. OraMTSRecoveryService is started
              2. OracleOraHome92HTTPService is started
              3. OracleOraHome92Listener is started on port
              4. OracleServiceFIA is started
              5. Apache.exe has the wtgias.dll loaded
              6. The Moble Server is not running and it should be if the documentation is correct.
              7. If I start the Mobile Server either as a service using wtgsvc -i or with the webtogo command from the DOS prompt, the Mobile Server starts, but when I attempt to log in with the URL http://Yggdrasill:7778/webtogo/startup it inform me the Mobile Server is not started and it is. Figure 3 shows the response I receive from the login attempt.
         l. I finally ran the Mobile Server in total debug mode using the command webtogo -d0", and it gave me the subtle hint that the correct URL is
              http://Yggdrasill.cfr.msstate.edu/webtogo/startup.
When I use the above URL and I can login to the Mobile Server with UN = fiafield, and PW = fiafield. I was confused by the documentation. I was under the assumption that the host address would be either http://Yggdrasill:7778, or http://Yggdrasill:4443. After all when I, installed Oracle Database these URLs were listed. It needs to be made clear in the installation guide for the mobile server that the Mobile Server address is http://Your servers WWW address/webtogo/startup, and the statements about the Mobile Server will start when the Oracle HTTP Server is started needs to be removed since they are incorrect. Also, the documentation should clearly state that the Schema Name, and Password given in the Repository Wizard Screen are synonymous with the username, and password for the Mobile Server login.
         m. After determning the hard way that the Mobile Server does not start when the the Oracle HTTP Server starts, and that the correct URL is http://Internet address/webtogo/startup = http://Yggdrasill.cfr.msstate.edu/webtogo/startup, I decide to start the Mobile Server as a service with the command wtgsvc -i. After I re-booted, to my surprise, I could not login to the Mobile Server. When I checked the system services, the webtogo service was running. So to give the start as a service thing a fair chance I re-booted again, but obtained the same results. I thus concluded that the Mobile Server will not run correctly as a service. As it turns out my conclusion was wrong. After waiting a few minutes, my login try was successful. The documentation should indicate that after booting it may be a minute or two before the Mobile Server service become available.
         n. After some serious problems with the installer, and the documentation everything is working. I have a green light to go on to the next stage, which is program the handheld to take advantage of the Mobile Server. I will be glad to get back to programming, and am so thankful that I am not a network administrator.

  • Saving data in a database and publishing data to multiple clients

Hi there.  I'm using a bunch of Compact FieldPoint modules to read out a few hundred voltages, temperatures, currents, etc.  I acquire this data at about 1 Hz (pretty slow).  I would like to record this data to some sort of database on a cpu (running LV 8.0, connected to the FieldPoint mods), and serve the data to multiple (between 10 and 50) clients over the net, each running a compiled stand-alone "data grabber and viewer" application (which I'll have to write of course).  I'd like these external clients to basically be able to pick a certain variable from the database, and plot it for the last week (or something like that).  Presumably the standalone client would send some database query to the server.  The server would then send the data to the client, and the standalone client would receive the data and plot it as the user sees fit.  My question is how to implement this database?  Should I use the LabView "Database" Add-On to create a database to store the data? Is it better to just store the data as binary and write my own data fetching routine to handle queries?  How can I write this database to disk for permanent storage? Could this database be accessible outside of LabView?
Any help on this would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi Jesse,
The Citadel database is not a relational database.  It's highly optimized for storing lower-rate (non-waveform) channel-by-channel, or "trace" measurement data.  Another option you can consider is using DSC and Citadel on the server then writing a utility to export the data from Citdael to an SQL database.  --That would solve the problem of having to write a logger application from scratch.  You would only have to write the relatively simple application to export the data from Citadel and import it into a relational database.
You could accomplish this two ways.  First, DSC includes a set of VIs that will retrieve historical data from Ciatdel.  You could use LabVIEW to parse this data and write it to a table in a relational database.  Second, Citadel actually includes a locally accessible ODBC interface.  (You can query Citadel using an SQL query from the local computer).  You could query Citadel using this interface, then write the result to a table in a relational database.
To view Citadel in its native format or query a Citadel database using ODBC from a remote comptuer that comptuer would need to have a licensed DSC RTS installed.

Problem is you don't see similar output from your lsnrctl status. Try rebooting your machine and make sure you see similar output.
How exactly are you trying to connect to your service?

  • Upgrade OM 2012 to SP1 Beta - Version of SQL Server for the Operational Database and the Data Warehouse

    Hello,
When I try to verify the prerequisites to upgrade my SCOM 2012 UR2 Platform to SP1 Beta, I have these errors :
The installed version of SQL Server is not supported for the operational database.
The installed version of SQL Server is not supported for the data warehouse.
But when I execute this query Select @@version on my MSSQL Instance, the result is :
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) - 10.50.2500.0 (X64)   Jun 17 2011 00:54:03   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7600: ) (Hypervisor)
    But
here, we can see that :
Microsoft SQL Server: SQL Server SQL 2008 R2 SP1, SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2012 SP1, are supported.
Do I need to pach my MSSQL Server with a specific cumulative update package ?
    Thanks.

These are the requirements for your SQL:
SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2012 are available in both Standard and Enterprise editions. Operations Manager will function with both editions.
Operations Manager does not support hosting its databases or SQL Server Reporting Services on a 32-bit edition of SQL Server.
Using a different version of SQL Server for different Operations Manager features is not supported. The same version should be used for all features.
SQL Server collation settings for all databases must be one of the following: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, French_CI_AS, Cyrillic_General_CI_AS, Chinese_PRC_CI_AS, Japanese_CI_AS, Traditional_Spanish_CI_AS, or Latin1_General_CI_AS.  No other collation
    settings are supported.
The SQL Server Agent service must be started, and the startup type must be set to automatic.
Side-by-side installation of System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 reporting and System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Operations Manager reporting on the same server is not supported.
The db_owner role for the operational database must be a domain account. If you set the SQL Server Authentication to Mixed mode, and then try to add a local SQL Server login on the operational database, the Data Access service will not be able to start.
For information about how to resolve the issue, see
System Center Data Access Service Start Up Failure Due to SQL Configuration Change
If you plan to use the Network Monitoring features of System Center 2012 – Operations Manager, you should move the tempdb database to a separate disk that has multiple spindles. For more information, see
    tempdb Database.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj656654.aspx#BKMK_RBF_OperationsDatabase
Check the SQL server agent service and see whether it is set to automatic AND started. This got me confused at my first SP1 install as well. This is not done by default...
It's doing common things uncommonly well that brings succes.

  • How to host a database?

    Sir,
How to host a database in Oracle. For example.
I am working in India. I have to set up database In my office india. Webserver is
Weblogic. We have one application deployed in Weblogic. Clients will access this application from USA.
What all things to be done to set up this database. Please help me.

Sounds like there is an inhouse application that your client want to see from USA
    Do the following
    1. Get an extranet IP mapped to your weblogic server machine
    2. Open the port on which you application is running (for example port 80) for the application
    So now you have
Extranet IP: port mapped to Intranet IP:port (weblogic machine)
    3. Create AD (active directory) accounts in your domain your client and allow only them to access your extranet ip:port using domain users .
    4. Clients now should be able to see your web app.
Note: you dont need to open ports for your database for extranet.
    you are all set now.
This is not an oracle related issue anyway. You system admin could help you here.
    All the best.

  • Lync backend databases and Lync local databases placement best practices

We are deploying Lync 2013 for 30,000 Lync users across 2 pools in 2 datacenters. Dedicated SQL server for Lync to host all databases for FE, PC and monitoring roles.
Can anyone provide guidance around disk drives for SQL databases and local databases?
    Lync backend databases
Planning for Lync Server 2013 requires critical thinking about the performance impact that the system will have on your current infrastructure. A
point of potential contention in larger enterprise deployments is the performance of SQL Server and placement of database and log files to ensure that the performance of Lync Server 2013 is optimal, manageable, and does not adversely affect other database
    operations.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2012/11/20/using-the-databasepathmap-parameter-to-deploy-lync-server-2013-databases.aspx
Is it recommended to place all Lync DBs on one drive and logs on one drive or separate onto multiple drives using Databasemappath?
    Lync 2013 local databases
In the Capacity Planning Guidance Microsoft
describes that the disk requirements for a Lync 2013 front end server, given our usage model, is eight disks configured as two drives.
One drive will use two disks in RAID 1 to store the Windows operating system and the Lync 2013 and SQL Express binaries
One drive will use six disks in RAID1+0 to store databases and transaction logs from the two SQL Express instances (RTCLOCAL and LYSS)
Is this enough or should we separate the local DBs and logs onto separate drives as well? Also how big do the local DBs get?

During the planning and deployment of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 for your Lync Server 2013 Front End pool, an important consideration is the placement of data and log files onto physical hard disks for performance.
The recommended disk configuration is to implement a 1+0 RAID set using 6 spindles. Placing all database and log files that are used by the Front End pool and associated server roles and services (that is, Archiving and Monitoring Server, Lync Server Response
Group service, Lync Server Call Park service) onto the RAID drive set using the Lync Server Deployment Wizard will result in a configuration that has been tested for good performance. The database files and what they are responsible for is detailed in the
    following table.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398479.aspx
Microsoft's technet recommendation contradicts the blog recommendation for Lync 2010.
