Hostname starts with digit

Hi,
I tried to configure a web server for a host having name starts by digit.
when I try to start it, I have this error:
./startserv
config: CONF1104: File /webServer7/https-10xxxx/config/server.xml line 10: Invalid <local-host> value: 10xxxx
it seems that web server 7 doesn't support hostname which begins with digit.
where can I find this information? in which document ( or references ..) can I find restrictions applied by web server on host name?
Thanks,

Hi,
thanks for your response,
in fact in RFC 1912 http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1912.html we have:
Allowable characters in a label for a host name are only ASCII
letters, digits, and the `-' character. Labels may not be all
numbers, but may have a leading digit (e.g., 3com.com). Labels must
end and begin only with a letter or digit. See [RFC 1035] and [RFC
1123]. (Labels were initially restricted in [RFC 1035] to start with
a letter, and some older hosts still reportedly have problems with
the relaxation in [RFC 1123].) Note there are some Internet
hostnames which violate this rule (411.org, 1776.com). The presence
of underscores in a label is allowed in [RFC 1033], except [RFC 1033]
is informational only and was not defining a standard. There is at
least one popular TCP/IP implementation which currently refuses to
talk to hosts named with underscores in them. It must be noted that
the language in [1035] is such that these rules are voluntary -- they
are there for those who wish to minimize problems.
but it seems that Sun Server applies RFC 1035.
In this RFC we have:
The labels must follow the rules for ARPANET host names. They must
start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have as interior
characters only letters, digits, and hyphen. There are also some
restrictions on the length. Labels must be 63 characters or less.
I'm not sure on this, as I didn't find this information anywhere .

Does anyone know about why HttpsClient throws the error for a hostname starts with a number. I have no problem with other hostname but only for the hostname starts with a number. I looked at the RFCs you mention, and they do seem to indicate that host/domain names cannot start with digits...however if you look at RFC 1123 closely it says:
    RFC1123 APPLICATIONS LAYER -- GENERAL October 1989
    2. GENERAL ISSUES
This section contains general requirements that may be applicable to
    all application-layer protocols.
    2.1 Host Names and Numbers
The syntax of a legal Internet host name was specified in RFC-952
[DNS:4]. One aspect of host name syntax is hereby changed: the
restriction on the first character is relaxed to allow either a
letter or a digit. Host software MUST support this more liberal
    syntax.
Host software MUST handle host names of up to 63 characters and
SHOULD handle host names of up to 255 characters.

If somebody from Oracle is familiar with 9iAS install guide, can this person please answer a question.
Page 2-15 of above mentioned document, pp. 2.5.4 states that
    '/etc/hosts.* has the following format:
    IP_ADDRESS FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME SHORT_HOSTNAME ALIASES'
Question: would the next line in the /etc/hosts file be correct:
    182.124.20.10 7abcdef.buggy.com 7abcdef
    If not, what is wrong?
    Thank you.

I hardly think you can blame Oracle for this.
Its actually your hostname selection that is not a valid one, I found this in RFC1035:
    <snip>
The labels must follow the rules for ARPANET host names. They must
start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have as interior
characters only letters, digits, and hyphen. There are also some
restrictions on the length. Labels must be 63 characters or less.
    </snip>
    So to answer your question:
No, a hostname can not start with a digit.
You can find the RFC1035 here:
    http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/cgi-bin/rfc/rfc1035.html
It also contains links back to the other RFC discussing similar subjects.

  • Four digit numbering system starting with 0001 and not just 1.

How can I re name and renumber  a file of photos and include a four digit numbering system starting with 0001 and not just 1. I need this so another computer program can keep the images in numerical order
Now I number a wedding say... Smith_Jones 1 ect up to 659 but a program I use to create albumes scrambles all my photos becasue they say the numerical system has to have 4 digits so Number 1 is really 0001 thus staying in order.  I d ont see how to assign 3 zeros to the front of numbers --- so # 344 would be 0344  LR wants to keep it 344.

In the Library rename use the following custom settings.

  • 9iasr2 infrastructure install - host name can not start with a digit?

    Hi,
During the installation of the infrastructure the installer builds the database domain by using the host name. If the host name starts with the digit as in our case the installer fails with a blessing 'Database domain name should start with a letter'. How can we workaround the problem?
    Thank you.

    Chris,
Thank you for your reply. I looked at this thread before I posted my question, but I could not find an answer to what is wrong with this line in the hosts file:
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com 7xpsm01
    or
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com
If you know what the problem was in your case could you please let me know? Appreciate your time.
    Thank you.

  • Assign user extension starting with 9

we currently have 3 digit extensions for our users and we are running low on them.  We currently dial 9 to get an outside line, is there a way for me to assign users an extension starting with 9 without having to wait for the timeout or press #?

As long as there is overlapping, you'll have to wait for IDT to expire or press # to place the call, using the same digit you use for PSTN calls internally is a very poor choice.
I assume you're already having to use the 9xx range, you'd be better off doing a re-design of your dial plan and expand to 4+ digits as required.

  • Selecting numbers starting with 0, followed by [1-9]

    Hello,
i'm using 9i (its a 3rd party software, i have no influcene on when they decide to upgrade...) on Unix.
In a table i would like to select all rows whose column x has entries that
    - start with 0
    - have a digit between 1 - 9 following the 0
So it should select rows with this value:
    012345
    098765
    034343
    044544
But it should not select rows with values like this:
    000343333
    00-334-2323
    22---333--333
    AA--00--000000

You should make a habit of posting CREATE TABLE statement, so we can play with your requirement.
    Does this work for you:
    SQL> create table t as (
2  select '0012345' col from dual union all
3  select '012345' from dual union all
4  select '098765' from dual union all
5  select '034343' from dual union all
6  select '044544' from dual union all
7  select '000343333' from dual union all
8  select '00-334-2323' from dual union all
9  select '22---333--333' from dual union all
    10  select 'AA--00--000000' from dual
    11  );
    Table created.
    SQL> select *
      2  from   t
      3  where  substr(col, 1, 1) = '0'
      4  and    translate(substr(col,2),'x123456789','x') is null;
    COL
    012345
    098765
    034343
    044544
    4 rows selected.

That is THE trouble. And I take back my words, it was during the linux from scratch install that I botched that file...! I was supposed to make a new bashrc file in the LFS directory, but I went wrong on the commands and I think I ended up removing the Arch Linux file...!
If it is to be found, it should be in the etc directory, right..? I looked there and could not find it. Did I look in the right place...?

  • How Insert a number starting with 0

    Hi,
I have created table numberTable with one column mynumber of datatype number(8).
I want to insert a number into this column 00000000. But when I insert this number it becomes 0 only and my query fails to read 8 digits as it finds only one disgit stored in table. I want all these zero to be present in the column because one of my query read this 8 digit number and use into different application and update it back with increment 1.
Can anyone tell me how can I save this number including with zero.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Vipin

    Thanks for the quick response.
I dont want to use it for display only. The thing is when I read this number it gives my only 0 as stored number however I inserted the number as 00000000. I have to create another string using these 8 zero's AB00000000 or AB00000001, AB00000002 and so on and stored the number back to the column as 00000001, 00000002 and so on respectively.
If I put it like 10000000 then my application works fine and save the correct number as AB10000000, AB10000001 etc.
But using this I loose 10000000 records which can be used to create these sequence if I starts with 00000001, 00000002 etc and update the column back to 00000003 by incrementing 1 everytime and can save AB00000001, AB00000002 etc.
    Kindly suggest.

  • What about numbers that start with Zero

When I enter numbers that start with Zero (EX: 08794) in a cell, Numbers automatically drops the zero. I WANT THE ZERO. How can I do that. I've tried changing the formula to numerals and automatic. Same thing.

Numbers starting with zeros are usually "labels" rather than "numbers" used in further calculations. If that's the case with yours, the easiest solution is to set the format of the cells where the 'numbers' will be inserted to Text.
An alternate, useful only if all of the 'numbers' are the same length (eg. five digit zip codes) is to set a Custom format for the cell(s).
Use the Cell Format Inspector ("42" button in the Inspector) to apply either of these settings.

    Reservation Procedure
Any customer or partner with a development system which has Release 4.0A or later can use SAPNet - R/3 Frontend to apply for a reservation for their own development namespace. You need to give the following information:
Namespace name (recognizably connected to your company)
Purpose of the namespace (for example, central group development, or the name of a planned specific enhancement to SAP)
Installation numbers of the SAP Systems in which you want to develop
    Available Names
Names for namespaces are selected freely from the pool of names that have not yet been reserved and should have a recognizable reference to the company making the reservation. The names must have at least 5 characters and can be up to 10 characters long. The first and last character is a slash "/". Names beginning with "/SAP" or "/n" (n = digit) are not available. Only individual names are given.

  • If I copy the "lcds" folder, Tomcat starts with socket errors

In the documentation it is said that when you create a new server-side application, you can start by copying the 'webapps/lcds' folder. I did that but then, Tomcat starts with some socket errors:
[LCDS]SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' failed to pre-validate desired socket settings for BindSocketAddress: 0.0.0.0:2038
    java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized Windows Sockets error: 0: JVM_Bind
    [LCDS]SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' failed to start.
flex.messaging.LocalizedException: SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' cannot bind to accept client connections on port '2038' because another process has already bound the port. Please ensure that multiple endpoints across all applications  are not configured to use this same port.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Borek

What is happening is that you are getting a port conflict for the socket-based NIO and RTMP endpoints used in the channel definitions in the services-config.xml file of your new web app. The issue is that you have endpoints bound to the same port  in the LCDS web and in your new web app.
You can deal with this one of two ways:
Option 1: In that services-config.xml file, search on "RTMP" and "NIO" to find the channel definitions and change the port numbers to something slightly different than the ones used in the LCDS web app.
Options 2: Move the LCDS web app out of the picture so it doesn't get loaded, and just use a template for future web apps. If you aren't using it for any of your development, there is really no reason you have to load it.
I'll add a note about this to the documentation that talks about using the LCDS web app as a template.

  • How do I stop iTunes from starting with Windows?

    Hi there.
After installing iTunes 7, it launches with Windows despite there being no registry entries or Startup folder entries. I also can't find any preference settings in iTunes to change this. I don't want iTunes starting with Windows as it's a CPU hot and system drag as it is without it slowing down my startup.
What's even more odd I find is that, if for whatever reason iTunes does NOT start with Windows, I don't have an Internet connection. It's strange but the connection between the two is absolute. If I reboot and iTunes starts with Windows, I have my Internet back.
Any suggestions? I can't find anything through searches. I've also checked for viruses, spyware, backdoors, etc.
    Thanks.

It turns out it was the Yahoo iTunes plugin.

I am automating the process of sending appointment reminders to my clients. I started with an alert with an email in calendar using the clients email address as a custom entry in my me card in my contacts. this was resulting in three emails being sent with slightly different versions of the same address (see my previous post). Heating someone else's suggestion I created a workflow file to send an email and calling that file from an alert on my calendar. This is working and sends only one email to the client.
My calendar is on I cloud and I access it from three different computers so I can keep my appointment calendar current. The files that send the email only exist on one computer. My other computers show error messages when those emails get sent. It seems that each computer wants to send the email. It's a small problem but is there a way that I could not get those alerts.
But appreciate any thoughts about this. It seems like both problems might be related to the iCloud system.
    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

Good work, catch so far Michael, does seem to be a "feature" of iCloud syncing, not sure what you could do to disable it.
