HotSync works for backup, but addresses/contacts don't show on Desktop Palm

Hey Folks,
I have recently moved over to the Mac platform (love it, btw) from a PC (Windows XP).  I have spent a while scouring over the forum notes and have not found an answer to my problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Here it is: I have a Tungsten E, and use Docs to Go as the only 3rd party app.  I installed the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 for Mac.  I performed a Hotsync sucessfully, as well as, had the Docs to Go install an expense XLS and sync that perfectly.  The problem is when I go to view the contacts and addresses that have been backed up to the Mac from the Palm Tungsten - they are not there.  I have checked the Users.  I have changed the users.  I have created a new user, and deleted the old - then I re-sync-d the palm again and had the Desktop software re-create my username.  When I pull up a Finder window and I see the information that is backed up.  I cannot get the Desktop software to "see" my contact/address information.  All settings and paths are set for the default.  I am getting really frustrated at this point, as this is the only reason that I have to mess the PC world anymore.  Is there something that I am just being stupid about?  Shouldn't I just be able to move the data in the Palm from one desktop to another ?

As a long-time Palm and PC user who recently switched to Mac, I can relate to your frustration. I'm sorry to tell you that many of the capabilities we took for granted on the PC desktop are broken or changed on the Mac. A partial list:
Records don't sync (as you describe). I found that if I open an individual address record that has, for example, a phone number in the email field, the opened data entry box has the correct information in the correct field.
There is no password security on the desktop. On the handheld, you can choose to show, mask, or hide records that are marked private, and you can assign and require a password to unhide those records. There is no password capability on the desktop. You can "hide" private records, but it's like a kid covering his eyes with his hands and thinking no one sees him.
The Help feature doesn't work. You get a glimpse of a help page but then it disappears and you're left with a page that says "Internet connection required."
And, my favorite: The Note that is part of a Contacts record has been disassociated. Those Notes are now stored as Memos. On the desktop you can find the Note by clicking on the paperclip icon. But if you create the Address record and a Note on the desktop, they won't retain their relationship on the handheld. I.e., you can't get to the Note from the Contact record on the handheld. You can do a linear search through the Memos to find it.
There are many more such annoyances. I imagine that when faced with all the possibilities that Unix/Leopard permitted, it was hard for the designers and developers not to take advantage of them. I appreciate that there are more possibilities with the new desktop environment, but they should have been left to another release, with an upgrade path spelled out. As it is, the Palm desktop on the Mac is useless. I'm now trying to figure out if I can get my Palm handheld contacts, including Notes, into the Apple Address Book.
If anyone has solutions that I've missed, I'd be happy to retract my expression of disappointment. And, G-Manmac, I wish you the best of luck.

    When I bought the new (used) iMac, I also bought an external hard drive for backups.  It worked fine, but my husband stole it.
    Then I bought a new external hard drive (Seagate) and it worked fine for three weeks, then died.
    So I just got a new external hard drive, which was put together from an internal hard drive and a hard drive enclosure. 
    Time machine did the first backup today, and it should have taken 9 hours like it did on the previous first time full back up.  Instead, it took 30 minutes.  That can't be right.  I want to start over and do a full backup to make sure everything gets onto my new external hard drive, but I can't figure out how to do that.  Please help.

    Having problems with iMessage. It will work for some of my contacts but not others. And those people arre having the same problem, works with other people but not me.. Anyone dealt with this?

    1. Both devices have to be running iOS 5.*
    2. Internet latency can delay iMessage connection.  If you enabled "Send as SMS", the phone will switch to SMS if iMessage doesn't connect quickly.  If you disable Send as SMS, more of your messages will go through as iMessage.

  • Album Art works for most, but not all

    I was reading previous forums on the subject, but no clear answer was given..
    The album art shows up fine in itunes and my library and works for most of my music on my ipod, but how come some album's art does appear? I have it set manually and select 'Get Info' then 'Artwork' and add it from there, then drag in the finished product to my ipod. I've been doing that and it works fine for most of the albums, but every so often, the album art will not appear on my ipod. Am I doing something wrong? I take them all from the same source (amazon.com) but it makes no sense to me how some randomly don't appear.
    I tried deleting the artwork and re-adding it, but nothing happened again. If you could answer why it works for most but not all or how I can get the album art to appear for the ones it will not by re-doing something, it would be appreciated. thanks.

    I encountered the same problem in the beginning. When I compared the size of the original images, the working ones seemed to be smaller in general, so I reduced the size of all covers I intended to upload on the pod to 300x300 pixels.
    This seemed to work - for 2 days. I bought the pod on friday, had pictures on sunday, but on Monday (after the first time the pod was fully discharged) none were left left.
    So I ended searching this forum for related problems...
    And decided to join my problem to this entry.

    if the backup is being done from a seperate device, it will show up in the icloud settings as a different backup.
    lets say your sister has an iphone backed up to icloud and so do you.  you just got a new ipad and you want to download all the stuff on you phone to it, no problem.  it would come up as a seperate backup.

  • People picker is not working for ie11 but working fine for other lower version

    i am using sharepoint 2010 and windows authentication
    recently i have updated my ie to ie11 and problem goes here.
    when i try to select from people picker, there are an unexpected error happened 
    however when i use other ie version, people picker work fine, what goes wrong?
    i have already added my system as trusted site
    if there any others thing i miss out?

    According to your post, my understanding is that People picker is not working for ie11 but working fine for other lower version.
    IE 11 is known to have compatibility issues on SharePoint 2010, please make sure to:
    first of all, try installing latest update for IE 11 (several compatibility issues were fixed since the first release)
    add the site to compatibility view (in IE> Tools> Compatibility view settings> type site name> add)
    add the site to trusted sites and set the zone security level to low (in IE> Internet Options> Security> trusted sites> sites>add your site there> ok> custom level> select low> reset> ok)
    You can use developer tools (f12) and set browser mode to the version that is most compatible with your environment.

  • Express works for mac but not for pc's

    my airport express works for my mac and iphone, but it won't work with my wife's and friends' pc's. the password works for me, but when they attempt to enter the password their computers ask for a network key instead of the password. please help!

    I had successfully set up my Powerbook and PC to use Airport Express on a closed network. Been working fine for 5 weeks until tonight when neither machine could find the network. I reconnected the Mac but I can't get the PC hooked up again. Any ideas?

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
    If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

    However, I found that SMIME seems to have been working all along.  From one mobile, I'm able to encrypt and send, and the other I'm able to encrypt and send.  Both mobiles decrypt using their respective certificates.  Why would this work for
    ActiveSync, but OWA simply cannot lookup the user's certificate or tells me no certificates were found for recipients.  Are they matching different criteria somehow?  I know that the user definitely has a valid certificate for the fact that ActiveSync
    is able to retrieve the public keys.

    parameter specifies whether all outgoing messages are automatically encrypted in Outlook Web App. The
    OWAAllowUserChoiceOfSigningCertificate parameter specifies whether to allow users to select the certificate to use when they digitally sign email messages in Outlook Web App.
    Please try to use the following cmdlet to enable it

    (This echo out correctly: /usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus -s 'xxx/xxxxxx@xxxx as sysdba')
    It fails when the script calls the assigned variable:

    Usage: SQLPLUS [ [<option>] [<logon>] [<start>] ]
    where <option> ::= -H | -V | [ [-L] [-M <o>] [-R <n>] [-S] ]

    I wonder what version of 8i you had working? With an old SQL*Plus

      UNPW='/ as sysdba'
      $SQLPLUS "$UNPW" &lt;&lt;EOF
      EOFThis worked in 9.2.0.5, 10.1.0.2 and 8.1.7.0.
    One common security risk on UNIX remains: putting the username and
    password on the command line. On some systems a "ps" command will
    show the password to any user. If OS authentication cannot be used
    for connection, perhaps putting the username/password in the SQL
    script may be more secure?
    A final note is that in SQL*Plus 10g, no quotes are needed around
    AS SYSDBA, i.e.
      sqlplus / as sysdba works from the OS prompt, whereas in 9.2 you need to do
      sqlplus "/ as sysdba"This makes a solution easy:
