House move - why so long to provide the service???

On 8th of Jan with a house move confirmed for 14th I rang BT to arrange ceasing line to old property, and enabling phone and BB at new one. It was short notice, but we didn't actually even exchange contracts until the 12th, so it was the best we could do - and the BT web site says 'just give us 5 working days'.
The new property had 2 active lines, each providing phone and BB, so should be a simple move to switch us across they said. Might not be active on 14th, more likely the 19th, but plug in your hub, and when you get the usual green lights your line will be active. Even gave us our new number which we emailed to friends and businesses. So far so good.
Plugged in the kit on 15th - all green, broadband works, phone works. Result! Then I get two almost totally incomprehensible calls from a guy at BT querying a couple of points - fair enough, but then he says that the service won't be active on the 19th as planned - it will be 26th, and that will be provisional.
Oh, and by the way, the new number that you've just told everyone about will now be a different one - and even that's provisional!Turns out that the line I'm using is still linked to the outgoing householder.
So, here I am, with a working phone and broadband service. To enable my service, the BT solution is to disconnect me from tomorrow (19th), and leave me dead in the water until 26th - at least!!!
I guess we can get by on mobiles for voice, but my M-I-L (85) has dementia, and the landline is a major link between her and my wife - not to mention Social Services, GP, and other carers.
Now bear in mind I need no engineer up a pole, or down a hole, no new internal or external cabling, no new sockets, no new handsets, no new hub, ADSL filters or anything else. In this day and age with a modern, high-tech company like BT, surely ALL I need is for someone somewhere at BT to perform a few mouse clicks and I'll be on the air,? Or am I missing something??   (

If BT have an order on a line which is being cancelled, the cancellation will take priority, cancelling out the transfer order. To sum up the people who moved out have cancelled their line, which is why BT have to wait on the line stopping first before their order can be booked. Only then can they place their order which explains the extra delay and the reason why you are left without a phone service. It may be possible, depending on what way the line was cancelled,  to fast track the order in 3 working days (it is possible) however this can mess up the backend systems. If the line is just stopped the number should be the same as before, if disconnected from the exchange, or the old homeowner have requested their number to be transferred then that might explain a new number for you

  • How can the FFC possibly force Verizon to provide the service I've paid for?

So it seems that Verizon is quite fond of giving their customers alot of ******** and runaround in order to avoid providing the service they claim to be selling. After spending a TORTUROUS full hour of my time speaking with a customer service rep AND paying an ADDITIONAL $30 to continue having phone service I STILL don't have what I paid for, and customer service will not accept a third call from me today. SO, I have gone ahead and filed a complaint with the FCC. I didn't feel the need to make this a community discussion, but evidently this is the only way to inform this god awful swindling sleaze-ball company of my discontent.
Here are the details of the complaint I have presently filed: "I purchased an upgraded smart phone and added a $70 card for unlimited talk, text and 4 gigs of data usage. I was NOT moved on to the $70 plan printed on the card I purchased and was additionally billed for every call, text and data transfer until my previous $20 overage balance was reduced to nothing. When I spoke with their customer service, I was told that they would fix the error if I paid an additional $20. I purchased ANOTHER $30 card(the location I was at only had $15 and $30 increments) and added it to the phone. I called BACK customer service to make sure I would no longer be charged for the unlimited service I paid for. As it sits at this moment, my account says I have unlimited talk and text, BUT my data is next to empty AND the overage balance is UNDER $1. In summary: that's $70 for the plan I wasn't given, $20 for the charges I wasn't supposed to incur, and $30 for the extra money they insisted I pay to continue service."
Does anybody SEE this?!?! I PAID $70 for unlimited talk, text and 4 gigs of data, period. That should be the end of it, I should HAVE that right now and not be fighting to GET it... What I have RECEIVED is billing through $20 that should not have been touched. I then had to ADD $30 MORE and I STILL don't have data reflected on myverizon AND the dollar balance on my account is under $1. So instead of paying $70 for unlimited talk, text and 4 gigs, I have paid $120 for unlimited talk, text and ZERO data AND an almost empty overage balance.

Again: I don't start out this way. I don't TALK this way, but when I've been patient and polite on the phone for a FULL hour, and they STILL don't fix my problem, and I call back and get a robot voice telling me to go online... I'm going to vent. You see?
When I say it costs next to nothing, what I mean is that price fixing is occurring at the highest levels by financiers who have a monopoly on literally everything for sale. There's no REAL WORLD value behind the costs. That wasn't the focus of this complaint because I've fully accepted that the vast majority of society is far too fluoridated and indoctrinated to have critical thought processes. I'm sorry for mentioning it because the problem is bigger than the imaginations of anyone who will read this.
What I want to focus on is the end of the line robbery occurring in my immediate, direct experience in this moment where my account should rightfully have 4 gigs of information and $50 credit waiting for me because I paid for it. I live in the sticks. I LIKE it out here away from the metropolitan taxpayer zoo. I HAD a (removed) phone from (removed) when I moved out here and frequently wouldn't GET incoming calls. When they actually DELIVER the service I normally pay for, I'm not dissatisfied. I achieve communication. It's pretty cool... but since I've gone ahead and upgraded to a smart phone they've withheld the service I've paid for and charged me $50 for NOTHING at all. That's THEFT. Flat out.
How I handle it??? You mean by being polite on the phone while they explained to me that I would have to pay an additional $20 AFTER the $20 they falsely charged me in order to have the plan I already paid for? You mean when I went ahead and withheld every thought in my head to call them out on how messed up that is, and actually went into that store, and bought that card, and added it to my phone, and waited politely AGAIN? You mean when I discovered that not only was the issue STILL not resolved, but the balance on my account shows less than a dollar, and I tried to call back yet again only to be told to go online where NOTHING on this site puts you in contact with anyone who will actually DO anything to resolve ANY sort of issue?
I believe I have every right to be as rude as I like at this point. This is NOT how a legitimate business operates. I shouldn't even be replying to you. I shouldn't be ****** off and missing money/data as I'm here holding the receipts. I shouldn't be forced to make this whole day about hunting down a legitimate person within the company in order to collect what I paid for. There's a product on the shelf with an advertised service. I paid the money... I should have the service... and I shouldn't be charged extra money in order to fund their inability to deliver it.

  • "NOT solved" CO needs upgrading, can't provide the service I'm paying for.

For the record, I accepted the solution to my original post as advised by support, in an effort to be able to unlock the original post but it didn't work.
Please review the original post "CO needs upgrading, can't provide the service I'm paying for." for the beginning details of my issue.
Here's the update and final word from Verizon....
Worked on the issue in private support from 2/28/13 to 3/15/13. I was told my issue was submitted to the DSL escalation team & engineering group. I was told that it is a capacity issue at the CO, where upgrades are needed, so at the present time there is nothing more they can do until the upgrades are completed.
Needless to say, I'm not happy. Now I'm currently looking into compensation in the form of some type of reduction in my monthly fee until the issue is resolved at the CO and I'm able to get the speed I'm provisioned. Wish me luck this is my last option.
As I stated in my original post, I really have had a good relationship with Verizon up until now. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel so I may have to make a change. I'll update this if anything changes

This is probably my final update...
I received a voice message in regards to my request for some compensation but there was nothing Verizon can do. The info given was that there was no estimated time for the upgrades to be completed. The offer was to down grade my plan to a lower provisioned speed & pay a lower rate. For both, it was not what I wanted to hear.
I wanted to keep my plan & provisioned speeds. I am & have been happy with my service & speed(when it's where it should be), it just that I'm not getting what I pay for at all times. Since there is no estimated time for upgrades (so that I get those provisioned speeds) I was inquiring about a possible adjustment in my monthly fees(maybe a few bucks off per month) until the upgrades are done. So now as I understand Verizons stance, I need to continue to pay the full price & Verizon won't be providing my provisioned speed. That just doesn't sound like a fair deal.
Unfortunately it appears that Verizon will now be loosing a long time customer, something I really wanted to avoid for the previously stated reasons. As I now look for an alternate ISP, I will continue to monitor my private support case in the hopes that something changes that will allow me to continue my relationship with Verizon as my ISP.
I want to thank everyone for their assistance in trying to resolve my issue, you have all been professional, courteous & helpful(as much as you could have been) in our communications, Kudos to all.

  • I have an iphone 2g unlocked for tmobile.  For the past 2 years it has worked fine then out of no where I get this message "your selected cellular network is no longer available" and the service cuts in and out all day.  It can't find tmobile on my phone?

I have an iphone 2g unlocked for tmobile.  For the past 2 years it has worked fine then out of no where I get this message "your selected cellular network is no longer available" and the service cuts in and out all day.  It can't find tmobile on my phone for some reason but for 2 years previous it could no problem?  tmobile says it is a problem with my phone and not their service.
    Any ideas what to do?

I would just explain that this just started happening, that nothing has changed on the phone, that it is an original iPhone and I wondered if they are implementing a change in coverage with their Edge network in my area.
If you restore your phone, you will be given an option to back up your phone at the beginning of the process (see step 6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414).  You will be given the option to restore to that backup at the end of the restore process.  Your messages are stored in the backup so restoring to the backup will return the messages to your phone.  Be sure to import your photos and videos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) and back up your contacts somewhere before restoring your phone as these sometimesget lost in the restore process.

  • The Dolphin Browser is compatible with the Toshiba Thrive (I can see video). Why can't Firefox provide the same?

The Toshiba Thrive is not listed on your site as a compatible device. I have installed Firefox on my Thrive. I love the inteface. But, the lack of a flash plugin is a deal breaker. If Dolphïn and Opera and Maxthon can provide it, why can't FF?

Flash on Android is not the same as Flash on Windows or OS X. Adobe and Google have both radically changed how browsers and plugins interact. Without documentation about these changes the Firefox developers need to try and make educated guesses about what Adobe and Google designed. This is a slow and hard process.
Most browser are only a skin over the Android stock browser. Thus they get Flash support for free. Getting Flash working on a non-stock browser is a lot more work. Firefox 10 will provide very limited support for Flash in 2.2 and 2.3 devices.
Work is ongoing on getting Flash working on Honeycomb devices.

  • Has anyone else noticed some movies will no longer be on the iCloud?

This must have happened in the last day or so. I was planning on buying some movie, but now I'm not sure. What happened?

I noticed but I think it is a bug. Nearly every movie, no matter the studio, is no longer available in iTunes in the Cloud after purchaing.
I purchased the preorder of Prometheus and downloaded it tonight and it is available despite it saying it won't be on the description page.

  • HT1918 Why can't Apple provide the security question answers?

I recently tried to purchase an album on Itunes, but they wouldn't allow me to. Why?!? Because I forgot my security question answers.

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane  and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox).

  • CO needs upgrading, can't provide the service I'm paying for.

After 19 days of working through my problem, up to the "escelated DSL trouble" division, I found out that my CO is in need of "equipment upgrades" as told to me by the technician.
The short story... I'm provisioned for 3.1 to 7 Mbps, from 18:00 to 01:00 I only get around 1 Mbps.  I went through all levels of CS, a technician came out & then on to the CO directly. I was told there is nothing more that can be done until Verizon upgrades the CO equipment. All contacts with verizon were professional, on both sides no complaints, everyone seemed genuine & helpful...as much as they could.
My question to the community/Verizon is how do I escalate this further?
I'm a long time customer that has had a good relationship with Verizon so far. With this issue I may need to look for an alternate for internet access, which I really don't want to do, but if there is no "light at the end of the tunnel" they are leaving me no choice.
    Any assistance/comments are greatly appreciated.

  • Ordering phones during house move

    Hi all,
I thought I'd rant here rather than be stuck in a queue for 30 minutes. Hopefully a mod can help me out.
So, I contacted BT via the website for a house move and ordered two telephones at the same time to be delivered when we moved in. Simple ehough, one would think, but no
A few days after moving, I checked the order and Royal Mail tracking. The phones had been dispatched to an old address that we haven't lived in for a  few years. Not really an issue, but I spent ages on the phone to BT and when I eventually got through to someone who could help, I explained the situation and gave my new address. I was promised the phones next day.
So next day comes and goes and the day after we were doing some gardening at the old house and the neighbour popped around with what I thought were the new phones. Great, I thought, but after a while I checked and actually the parcel was for a DSL modem. Not bad, but not when I expected. So, I checked the latest order on the website and the status was complete. Great .. BT thought that they had completed the order .. but not what I expected.
Come on guys, your CRM sucks. It's not rocket science to dispatch phones to a new address during a online house move transaction surely? Perhaps it's just me, but working for a vendor on latest telecoms products, I expect CRM to work. Clearly it doesn't and the help I recieved after paying for a 30 minute mobile call proved fruitless.
If I were a school teacher ... D- Please try harder. As it is, I'm a telecoms professional and would expect so much more from BT.
    Cheers,
    Mark

  • Why can't I CHOOSE the channels I receive?

My parents pay far less for DISH and get more channels. The only reason I keep AT&T is because I need reliable internet. I'm frustrated with a lot of channels with NOTHING to watch. This is compounded by the fact that I get multiple Spanish language channels (not just local broadcast) and I don't speak Spanish and I get multiple sports channels and I don't watch sports--well I will watch the Olympics. I also don't watch cartoons and there's lots of those available to me. Most of my TV watching is local broadcast or PBS. I'd love to get BBC or WGN without paying extra. I would gladly drop all the Spanish, sports and cartoons to get some intelligent adult TV that's in a language I speak, that doesn't include men bashing each other's skulls and doesn't make me lose IQ points.  Why can't we choose the type of service we want instead of just getting one the choices we can afford from AT&T's cookie cutter products?

What you are describing is called "a la carte service" and has been debated for years if not decades. The main reason you can't pick and choose channels has to do with how the channels themselves make money.  For the most part, each one cuts a deal with each TV service (e.g. Xfinity, DirecTV, U-Verse, Dish, Time Warner Cable) where the service pays the channel a certain amount for each household capable of viewing it (usually less than 50 cents, but ESPN charges something like $5).  Note two important factors here: (a) it is the TV services that are paying the channels, and not the other way around; (b) it is based on how many people can view a channel, and not how many people actually do. With "packages," a lot of channels that very few people would watch are grouped together with the more popular channels, and the additional cost of carrying these channels is offset somewhat by the fact that the channels do not have to charge as much as they otherwise would because of the number of households that can watch the channel, most of which never will. If you changed this, and made everything a la carte, then most channels - including the popular ones - would have to charge more in order for you to view them.  Want BBC America?  $3/month, thank you very much.  That $5/month for ESPN?  More like $10.  Also remember that the service itself has to add to these costs so it can pay for providing the service (e.g. buying and sending out the cable boxes).

  • HT203909 Why can't you provide specific instructions here about how to make the USB drive bootable?  The article referenced is not dedicated to Bootcamp--too long, too many options.  How do you make it bootable?

Why can't you provide specific instructions here in HT203909 (Boot Camp: Creating an ISO image from a Windows installation DVD) about how to make the USB drive bootable?  The article referenced for partitioning the drive is not dedicated to Bootcamp--too long, too many options.  How do you make it bootable?

If your BC Assistant shows the option to create a USB Installer, it automatically is marked as bootable. There is no need to have manual intervention to make a bootable USB. Once the process is manually modified, it is supported by the person modifying it.
You have two or three options (depending on your Mac Model).
    1. Create USB... - Use a USB2 flash drive, which is erased and formatted. If your Mac supports ISOs then BCA will prompt for the Media. Any Mac which does not have a built-in Optical drive will support an ISO. There are specific Mac models which support both, DVD and USB based installation.
    2. Download Software from Apple servers...
    3. Install Windows...
Are any additional instructions really necessary?

  • HT2693 I have been trying to down load 3 movies for the last week and they are still trying to download why is this taking so long we have the gig to download? Apple have charged us for the movies and we can't watch them

I have been trying to play my movies that I purchased but they have now been down loading for a week.
Why are they taking so long?

Cancel the downloads and reset the iPad (Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts off. Ignor the off slider. Then turn the iPad back on). Go back to the Purchased screen in the I.tunes app and redownload. You may want to down load one at a time.

  • TS4107 I have to use the optical output to my receiver for my surround sound ( it does not decode HDMI). After updating the software on my Apple TV the optical no longer works. The HDMI to my TV works and provides sound to the measly TV speakers. WHY?

I updated my software as "recommended" and my optical output is not working anymore to my receiver and thus no surround sound. My HDMI to the TV still provides the picture and sound to the TV. My receiver only uses optical and was fine BEFORE the software was updated. How can I go back to the prior software or fix this? My Apple TV is the earlier 720P version. I have tried restarting on the Apple TV and then unplugging and reinserting all plugs to no avail. It provides no optical sound on Netflix, Youtube and other selections but does via HDMI only to the tinny TV speakers. ANY IDEAS?

GO to your Dolby Digital settings, and toggle the options.. Auto, On, Off. That worked for me, and a few other people.

  • Why is Coldplay Live 2012 no longer available in the iTune store, and did my previous purchase of that content vanish from my iCloud ? library

Still wondering the same thing. Why is Coldplay's beautiful LIVE 2012 content no longer available on iTunes ? Since I have previously purchased this concert movie , why is it no longer in the iCloud servers available to download or even more strange why is the 2003 concert movie available and not 2012 Live ?
I have talked with support and they have been great but the mystery has yet to be solved ! I have notified the Coldplay official website, and within the current
wave of new album buzz and promotion a 2012 piece of art can be ignored.
After watching the NBC special i immediately have fond memories of 2012 LIVE and I know it is available as a blue ray , so all is not lost, but in this new era of cloud computing from an iPad Air , aside from backing up on an airport extreme router , I can always hope my content will return considering the meta data of my previous purchase should push it back to my iCloud library. Meanwhile whether it's licensing, country regions of sale , or a server software glitch , who knows ,the wireless experiment must go on ! Even if it's repackaged the aesthetic value of that piece is worth repurchase !
Let me know concert movie fans if similar mishaps have effected your iCloud libraries.

I did not fail to keep a local copy. Fortunately, I have an iMac and I downloaded the movie when it was still in my purchased items list.  I would imagine, however, that there are many people who only own an iPad/iPhone and/or an Apple TV and don't own a computer and therefore lost the ability to stream this item from iTunes.  This, after all, was the promise of the "Post-PC world" that Apple was "ushering in" (and yes, I recognize that the person who said this at the 2011 WWDC keynote - the SVP of  iOS Software - is no longer employed by Apple).
And I do understand that content creators can remove items from the store, or modify "something" in the original (perhaps that even applies to "modified" artwork) and require people to re-purchase the item.  In fact, I hope it occurs more often with movies, and perhaps even TV shows and music and books (sorry, you have to re-purchase the book because we replaced the original with one containing a new forward).  Maybe then people will see that they are not actually "purchasing" the items at all, and that the whole "iTunes in the Cloud" is, at best, nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
