How Are New Objects Allocated?

Let's say your have:class MyClass {
  int mOnlyMember;
  public void method1() {
    //a huge complex method body
}When you create a new instance of MyClass, I know new memory is allocated for mOnlyMember, but is new memory also allocated for method1()? That is, does each object have it's own copy of the method? More to the point, when I create a new instance of MyClass, is it expensive (because the method body is so complex) or is it cheap (because there's only a single int member)?
Thanks for any clarification,
Johh

i'm not very sure about the memory allocate for
method.... but, it should be allocate for the method
too...Er, no. The code of the method body exists only once
per class. All the instances (the objects you create)
share the same code. Each instance (object) has its
own copy of instance (non-static) member variables,
and each method invocation has its own copy of the
variables that are local to that method.
Okay... learned.... :)
>
however, creating an new instance is expensive... we
normally will try to reuse an instance ifpossible...
Um, you might want to recheck your facts on this.

  • How Hprof track object allocation?

    I'm learning to use JVMTI.
    I BCI the class by java_crw_demo.dll to track allocations of object and array,
    and I use ClassLoad callback to track class objects' allocation.
    But about 4000 allocations of [Ljava/lang/Object are missed when comparing to Hprof, except this, the tracked allocations are exactly the same with Hporf.
    Why?

  • OLAP time dimension - how are the weeks allocated

    Could someone please help me understand what logic Oracle uses when one makes use of Oracles OLAP time dimension based on weeks.
    I am use Oracle OLAP 11.2
    I have a Time dimension that has the following hierarchy:-
    YEAR
    QUARTER
    MONTH
    WEEK
    For calculating the weeks ID I make use ISO week and year i.e. IYYYIW
    For calculating the end date I use the following:- NEXT_DAY( l_date, 'MON' ) -1
    i.e. the weeks end date is the Sunday.
    According to me this is the required result.
    Problem is that for some months there are 3 weeks allocated which makes no sense to me.
    I cannot understand the logic used in allocating the weeks.
    The following is an example:-
    the following weeks were allocated to the month February
    201306 (end date= 10-2-2013)
    201307 (end date= 17-2-2013)
    201308 (end date= 24-2-2013)
    but the following week was allocated to January which makes no sence to me,
    I would have expected it to be found in February
    201305 (end date= 3-2-2013)
    Week 201309 (end date= 3-3-2013) was allocated to March which according to me is correct..
    Another example is week *201030 (end date= 1-8-2010)* that is allocated to July while I would have expected that it should be August.
    I would have thought that it uses the end date that is placed in the mapping to determine the month to place it in.
    Could some one please explain what the reason for this could be.

    Oracle OLAP model/design (in this case, at least) cannot compensate to coverup existing flaws in the relational model/design.
    I dont think this is a valid hierarchy even considering relational model/design.
    Weeks do not fit in below Months (calendar months).
    You can force fit them by making Weeks the source of truth and making all Months logical Months like "Business Month", "Business Quarter", "Business Year" etc. which will be composed of whole weeks but differ significantly from the calendar definition of Month, Quarter, Year etc.
    You are better off modeling time as composed of two hierarchies:
    H1: DAY -> MONTH -> QUARTER -> YEAR and
    H2: DAY -> WEEK
    Alternately if you dont want to introduce DAY level (lower granularity), you can split up the Time dimension into 2 different dimensions. And also modify your star schema to add an additional time dimension key to fact table - one key pointing to WEEK and another pointing to MONTH (independently).
    TIME_MO: MONTH -> QUARTER -> YEAR
    TIME_WK: WEEK
    The fact data will need to be split up to correctly identify the coirrect MONTH-WEEK combination for the relational record.
    E.g:
    Fact table should have 2 dimension Fks for WK_KEY as well as MO_KEY so that a fact figure of 1000 evaluated over 7 days is split up into 300 from 29-31st of previous month and attached to MO_KEY of previous month and another record of 700 covering days from 1-4 and recorded/tied to same WK_KEY but next month (next month's MO_KEY).

  • How are new showcase topics selected and programming added ?

    Hi Mariana. Thanks for being the manager for this blog.  As you can tell, everyone is most appreciative of your involvement in this forum. Many of us consider Channel more than a marketing type channel.  It provides us with much entertainment in a variety of ways. I have never seen a showcase on American Architecture. As an architect, I believe the viewers would thoroughly enjoy such a showcase series.  There are many different approaches and themes on this topic. Is there someone who can be contacted to " pitch " this idea ?   Please let me know how new showcases are selected and added.  If there was an interest by AT & T, I would be willing to assist with my expertise and knowledge of architecture. Thanks so much for your assistance with this. IndianaArchitect

    Simply stated, my ask is for the showcase to consider adding architecture features.  I think the viewers would really enjoy this.  Why not keep it American Architecture and organize the features by city, by architectural style, by era or by famous architects.
    My offer is to simply assist if those who create the various showcases with a professional expertise in architecture.  Clearly, they do this and several expamples include the bird features and castle features which certainly had consulting expertise assist them.

  • Issues when adding new objects

    A few questions regarding changes in Toplink from 2.5 to the current version.
    Say I had object A which contains a collection of Bs and a collection of Cs.
    Now when I want to save A and Bs and Cs to the database as an insert.
    Is the following code correct ?
    A a = new A();
    A cloneA = (A)uow.registerObject(a);
    Vector bCollectionClone = uow.registerAllObjects(new Vector(bCollection));
    Vector cCollectionClone = uow.registerAllObjects(new Vector(cCollection));
    uow.commit();
    This seemed to work in 2.5. According to the API java docs this should work even today.
    The reason I am asking is all of these -A, B and C are new objects. Should they be registered with registerNewObject();
    Is it incorrect to register a new object with cloning ?

    I forgot to add a couple of lines of code to that snippet

  • How new objects are instantiated when reading from object stream?

    Hi,
    How the serializable API instantiates new objects when reading from stream?
    First it needs to create a new instance of a class and then fill its' fields with a serialized data. But not all serializable classes have empty constructor (as it have java beans) to make simple call of Class.newInstance(). Is there any way to create a virgin instance of any class?
    Antn

    I found the way, but it is not a solution:
    Constructor serializableConstructor = sun.reflect.ReflectionFactory.getReflectionFactory().newConstructorForSerialization( Class instanceClass, Constructor superClassEmptyConstructor );
    Object obj = serializableConstructor.newInstance();This "magic" method creates an empty constructor for a serializable class from empty constructor of any superclass. The limitation is that a first non-serializable superclass must have an empty constructor.
    As this magic method locates in a package sun.** I think this will not work with other JREs.

  • How are non-cost center Controlling objects best modeled in PCM?

    I appreciate that ALG developed Profitability and Cost Management, and they apparently were unaware of
    or did not consider that SAP ERP uses more than a single controlling object of a cost center; specifically
    internal order, WBS element, real estate object, etc.
    My question is how are these other controlling objects best treated in PCM?
    For example,
    I have a planned trade show internal order to showcase my companies products
    in Berlin to European retailers.  I have planned travel costs, display costs,
    space rental costs on this internal order.
    Normally, I would settle this internal order to CO-PA to determine the planned
    profitability of my Europen retail customers.  Unless I make this order a faux cost center,
    I don't see how to model it in PCM.
    If I exclude this order, then the profitability resulting in PCM is suspect --
    leaving out a major chunk of customer specific marketing expense.
    Or is the process to settle the planned internal order cost to CO-PA, but
    transfer the planned costs from PCM back into CO-PA, which would have the
    benefit of being mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive.
    Jeff Holdeman hinted at the restrictions imposed by planning in ECC.  Yet
    without a more comprehensive approach, I am concerned that PCM still
    does not represent a complete profitability planning solution.

    Hi Deepak.
    You can verify is the cost center was posted on document running tcode SE16N on the FALGFLEXA table, put the document number to do research.
    After you can trying to post the new document through Tcode FB50L choosing or not a legder specific, then verify the document was posted correctly running the Tcodes SKb1 or Se16N with FAGLFLEXA table again.

  • Why are object alloc delays occuring outside of GC?

    Hi
    I'm currently tuning an application which has a low latency transaction requirement (sub 5ms ideally), hence we're using JRockit RT with an 8ms deterministic strategy (we're not achieving 8ms GC pause, but some time ago we experimented and found this was a good setting for us).
    I'm currently focused on addressing latency spikes which we're hoping to bring down from many hundreds of ms to the order of 10-20ms. Many of the spikes are occurring during GC activity as one would expect, but I'm currently looking at some spikes outside of GC which I'm struggling to understand the cause of. What I seem to be seeing is object alloc delays which are occuring and then being resolved, but outside of any GC activity.
    For example, see the following snippet from the log. Cmd line params include:
    -Xverbose:memory,memdbg=debug,gcpause=debug,compaction,gcreport,refobj
    -Xgcprio:deterministic
    -Xpausetarget=8ms

    The above log segment shows the tail of a GC which has just completed, then an object alloc delay for 75ms for thread "pool-1-thread-1", and then a subsequent GC kicks in much later which I believe is unrelated. I have a JRA trace from the test which shows that the object alloc latency event occurred almost a full second after the completion of the GC activity - something you can't see from the above trace which has second resolution in the timestamp.
    What I'm unsure of is exactly how the object alloc delay can occur and then be rectified by the JVM outside of a GC. I understood the main cause of an object alloc latency event was that memory wasn't available (i.e. TLA does not have enough free space and a new TLA cannot be allocated) and that a GC would be required to free up memory to allow either a new TLA to be allocated or free up enough space in an existing one. We see an "object alloc" latency delay which follows the above pattern after every GC so I'm guessing it must somehow be related to the GC which has just finished, but I can't figure out how. My hope is to eliminate this kind of latency delay completely or at least down to single-figure ms delays.
    Perhaps the deterministic GC means some memory reclaim is happening in parallel outside of the reported GC activity, but I'd be very surprised if this was the reason as surely the collector would be reporting it's activity more fully. It's been a while since I've looked this closedly at GC so I may have forgotten something.
    Any help you can provide in working out how to address such latency spikes would be very helpful!
    Thanks
    Stuart

    I think the extra time is due to the compaction of the heap (which occurs after a garbage collection).
    Note also that a very low pausetarget can stress the garbage collector to less appreciated behavior, when the application and the hardware or not appropriate. If you look at the application about 30% live data or less at collection time is something your application should strive at. Running with more live data might break the deterministic behavior (depending on the hardware of course).
    You can tune compaction with the determistic collector as follows,
    MEASUREMENT_ARGS="-Xverbose:gc,gcpause,memdbg"
    export MEASUREMENT_ARGS
    USER_MEM_ARGS="${MEASUREMENT_ARGS} -Xms512m -Xmx1000m -Xns256m -Xgcprio:deterministic -XpauseTarget=30ms -XXgcThreads:2 -XXtlaSize:min=2k,preferred=16k -XXcompactSetLimitPerObject:500 -XXinitialPointerVectorSize:40 -XXmaxPooledPointerVectorSize:8000 -XXpointerMatrixLinearSeekDistance:5"
    export USER_MEM_ARGS
    The last four options are used to tune compaction for the deterministic collector. In optimizing compaction try to reduce object references, because when a object is moved during compaction its references must be updated. So moving an object with a lot of references is more costly than moving an object with a few references.

  • Help!! How do you keep objects in the same order in a 20 page doc when inserting a new object?

    I am creating a catalog of pictures only, as objects.
    They are organized alphabetically, 4 images per page as a 2x2 grid, for 20 pages.
    I want to insert a NEW object (image) in the middle of these 20 pages, and want all the objects after it to shift over one spot to make room.
    How do I get the objects after the inserted ones to shift, as text would if you inserted more text in the middle of a paragraph?
    I can't figure out how do do that (without just putting the images in a text box and in-line, but then I lose all the spacing controls)...
    Thank you!
    Lawrence

    ID ships with a free Image Catalog script in the sample scripts. You don't need to buy one.
    And that isn't going to do what you want, exactly. You'd have to re-run the script each time you add an image to make a new file, and you don't get to set the sort order yourself.

  • How to Add New Object?

    HI,
    Any body can say how to add new object. For Example: The Document need to link with Invoice Transaction (T.Code: VF01, Table: VBRK/VBRP).
    Points will be rewarded, if information is useful.
    Tks
    Mani.

    Hi
    You can create New objects using the T.code: SE80.
    You can make an object link to SAP objects that are not shown in the possible entries list. To do this, proceed as follows:
    1. In the standard system, there are already two special screens for the module pools SAPLCV130 and SAPLCV140 for the linked SAP object.
    You must create two new screens with the same number for the module pools SAPLCV130 and SAPLCV140. The processing logic must follow that of screen 1204 in program SAPLVC130.
    2. Create function module OBJECT_CHECK_XXXX (XXXX = object name) If the object can be classified, this function module already exists .
    Otherwise copy the function module for linking equipment DOCUMENT_CHECK_EQUI and change it as required for the new object.

  • Not sure on how to return a new object

    hi i am not sure on how to return a new Set object, i am not asking how to code this, i just don't exactly know what to write after "return.." to return a new object ...that part of the code is towards the bottom where i put arrows.....this is the skeleton of the code:
    public class Set
         // define fields here
         public Set(int maxinteger)
              // complete this method
         public boolean add(int integer)
              return false; // replace this line with your code
         public boolean remove(int integer)
              return false; // replace this line with your code
         public boolean contains(int integer)
              return false; // replace this line with your code
         public int size()
              return 0; // replace this line with your code
         public String toString()
              return null; // replace this line with your code
         public void addAll(Set other)
              // complete this method
    --------->     public Set subset(int min, int max)
              return null; // replace this line with your code
    ----------->     public Set intersection(Set other)
              return null; // replace this line with your code
    ------------->     public Set difference(Set other)
              return null; // replace this line with your code
         }

    well, when you use return is when trying to make a method have a value that have to be returned from it.
    In your case you have a Set CLASS, with methods, some methods have to return Strings, ints, Objects, etc.
    just make sure that you are returning the same type of value than the method say.
    the method parts are:
    modifier returnType name (parameters) {
    . code
    modifiers are public, private, etc.
    the return type specifies what the method will return, for example:
    public String toString () {
    must return a String value.
    to return a new Object just do it like a simple value, Strings are objects.
    just define a Set object and then return it.

    If you have been synching the iPad to iTunes on a computer, you should also have backed it up. If you havn't backed it, you will want to do so before clearing the settings and use the back up to set up your new iPad.
