How can I automate 'Save as PDF' in Safari?

I routinely research stuff, then save it in PDF (it seems to be a better format that html pages).
Is there a way I can automate this, rather than the lengthy CMD+Print>PDF>Save As PDF routine?

You can also script the user interface with an AppleScript. The following AppleScript will save the current Safari (Version 3.1.2) page to the default location (if you want to specify another location, just remove the last keystroke return statement):
<pre style="
font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
font-size: 10px;
margin: 0px;
padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
width: 720px; height: 340px;
color: #000000;
background-color: #FFDDFF;
overflow: auto;"
title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
-- save the current Safari page as PDF
tell application "Safari"
activate
tell application "System Events"
keystroke "p" using {command down} -- activate print menu item
delay 0.5
tell sheet 1
repeat 2 times -- tab to the PDF button
keystroke tab using {shift down}
delay 0.25
end repeat
keystroke space -- press the button
delay 0.25
repeat 2 times -- move to the save item
keystroke (ASCII character 31) -- down arrow
delay 0.25
end repeat
keystroke return -- activate the menu item
delay 0.25
keystroke return -- press the save button
end tell
end tell
end tell
</pre>

  • How can I automatically save as a jpg layer groups?(layer group jpg)

    Has created a 10 layer groups in Photoshop (there are multiple layers in the group layer.)
    10 Photoshop layer groups
    I try to save the JPG file to 10.
    How can I batch or automatically save?

    Just so you are aware, jpg does not support layers. However there is a script actually two scripts that can take the layers and create individual files.
    File>Scripts>Layer Comp to Files
    File>Scripts>Export Layers to Files
    The former requires you to use layer comps which is a way of creating sets of layers to create a comp. The latter is just as it says.
    But as I said anything saved as a jpg will be a single layer with no transparency.
    Psd and tiff are the only two that should be used for multiple layers and transparency. There are other formats that support transparency, but is not the scope of this thread. At least for now.

  • How can I automatically close a PDF document after it is done printing?

    Hello all,
    To cut to the chase I am using the System Exec.VI to open a PDF with Adobe Reader 8.0 and printing the document.  I can do this without a problem.  The problem is I would like to have this window close automatically when it is done printing.  I have seen on the web that the switch to make this happen is /t, but for some reason my pdf doc is not closing.  My command line looks like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /t  "path to the file" "default printer name"
    Is there another way to terminate the window not using switches in the command line statement?
    I have tried using active x calls to open the doc and print but I am not seeing any print options in the active x calls.  I have searched thourgh a large portion of the classes and could not find any print statements.  I have also tried opening the doc with the system exec.vi and priting and then closing it with active x but I get an error message back.
    Has anyone had any success in opening a pdf doc, printing and then closing the window automatically afterwards?

    Hi gammalight,
    i use Adobe Reader 7.0 and it works in this way for me. The document is printed with the default printer.

  • How can i automate .pdf output and organize by color/bw?

    how can i "automate" multi-page .pdf output to preflight/imposition software workflow, organized by color/bw?
    basically what i'm trying to do is create a simple output function from InDesign that allows the user to just export a multi-page .pdf into a hot folder and on through preflight and imposition software. i want to be able to tell the hot folder which pages are color -so it can separate, rename and direct color pages to a color queue and b/w pages to a b/w queue.
    i've researched indesign distiller presets and the Acrobat JDF but the JDF isn't really meant for this exact purpose and doesn't help reduce the number of steps currently necessary to manually output/rename/etc.
    is there another way that i can embed information into a .pdf that could be read by a hot folder?

    You might check out this third-party plug-in for InDesign. It may or may not help you (I've never used it). I just saw it on the new Adobe Exchange (beta in Adobe Labs). Here's the description:
    Output Factory automates printing and exporting from Adobe InDesign. Export as single pages with variable file names, output layer versions, update modified links on the fly, preflight InDesign files before output, output to several format at once and much more.
    Just select the documents, adjust settings and Output Factory will do the rest for you. Keep working with other programs while Output Factory processes InDesign files in the background. Or leave it working overnight to output hundreds of documents, and the job will be done when you return in the morning.
    Key features:
    • Output multiple InDesign files automatically
    • Output as single pages
    • Automate printing and exporting to PDF, PostScript, EPS, Flash, IDML, EPUB and several image formats
    • Output files to multiple formats at once
    • Layer versioning: output layer combinations as single files
    • Update modified links automatically
    • Variable output file names
    • Preflight InDesign files and final PDFs
    • Supports books and booklet printing
    • Send output files over Internet and locally
    • Detailed output history
    System Requirements:
    - Adobe InDesign CS3-CS6
    - Mac OS X 10.5 and later, Intel-based Mac

    Have your husband text the word "stop" to 48369. This should take his number out of the iMessage system.
    Go into your settings under messaging and make sure the box to send as an SMS if iMessage is unavailable is checked.
    Hopefully this will get your messages sending/receiving to each other.

  • How do I scan & save a PDF in just ONE step?

    How do I scan & save a PDF in just ONE step? I can easily scan a document to an OCR'd PDF, but it does not seem to save it until I manually select "save". Seems there should be a way to set up scans to a particular folder destination, with a naming convention & auto numbering, such as YYYYmmDD-0001, YYYYmmDD-0002, etc. I've looked thru the Create>PDF form scanner>configure presets, and no such item seems to exist. There IS a "add to existing document", but that's not what I want to do. I just want to select "scan", and have it create an OCR'd PDF file in a folder.

    Hi,
    You can achieve this via Action wizard. Auto Numbering is not possible however you can combine Scan and Save As in one action.
    Click Tool>Action Wizard
    Create New Action
    See screenshot and set the options that i have highlighted in blue
    Let me know if that helps.

    Hello pf1tarac, I don't believe that is possible. In order to create a PDF file, you would need Adobe Acrobat or some other PDF compatible product to save a scan to the PDF format.
    There are some free PDF programs available.  Here  is a link to one of them.

    You can make a PDF file out of you notes and handouts but using the Adobe PDF printer.
    Open your PowerPoint Document then go to “File” “Print”
    Select ‘Adobe PDF” Printer
    Under slides, select which way you want to print. Note it will not print to a printer but to a PDF file.
    After then go into printer Properties and Setup PDF properties, do the following: (see second image below)
    Default: PDF/A 1-b
    Adobe Security: none (change as needed)
    Adobe Output folder: Prompt for Adobe file name
    Adobe Page size: Letter (change as needed)
    Check the following check boxes
    View Adobe PDf Results,
    Add Document Information,
    Rely on system fonts only,
    Delete Log files for successful jobs.
    Select OK
    A pop will ask you where you want to save the document. The file extension should be PDF. After giving the file name select okay and the file should popup as a PDF. Down side is if you want to speaker notes included then you will have to do another file, like wise with just screen shots then combine into one PDF document.
    I used Acrobat IX Pro. So to do this you need Acrobat IX or X Pro.
    Hope this will help.

  • Illustrator CS3 can't print/save as PDF

    I installed CS3 and the error message:
    "The Save as PDF and Save PDF as PostScript options in the Printer Dialog are not supported"
    Does this mean that its not picking up on the Adobe Acrobat/Distiller 8?
    How would I activate this? Help!!
    Same thing with InDesign CS3, can't print/save as PDF.
    (this is on a mac)

    It may be looking for your RIP ppd, as well as Acrobat 8. Acrobat should have installed all the necessary files, but you might take a look into that. I don't think Distiller is part of the Save-As procedure. You might take a look into "Add-A-Printer" OSX option and select Acrobat 8 there ( although it should have loaded during the install ). Another option is re-install your printer's software and any RIP software ( if available ). Before you do, get whatever updates you can from the manufacturer. It could also mean, after you've done the previous suggestions, you correct permissions on your HD using Apple's Disk Utility. Leave the machine ON overnight so that the Apple Utilities can clean house while you're sleeping.

    How can I e-mail a PDF file? Popups keep going around in circles.

    No.  You can set an option in an outgoing mail message to have a receipt confirmation sent to you, but the recipient can decline to send that receipt.  (Spammers would be very happy if their junk would automatically acknowledge which are actually live email accounts.)

  • How do I obtain 'Save As PDF' option in MS Access 2003?

    Ever since I installed the Adobe CS2 Premium Suite (containing a full copy of Acrobat) on my PC a long time ago, the main menu of Microsoft Access 2003 has contained an item that would let me save an Access report as a PDF. I have since upgraded to Adobe CS4 Design Premium (which includes Acrobat Pro V9).
    Recently, that menu item in Access has disappeared for some unknown reason and a reinstall of Acrobat Pro V9 made no difference. Does anyone know how I can reinstate the 'Save As PDF' option in Access 2003?
    David

    I have now found a fix for my problem. After learning that the missing facility was called PDFMaker, I was able to get more useful results from a Google search. This led me to the following Adobe Archived Technote, entitled 'PDFMaker is unavailable in a Microsoft Office application'.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/330/330984.html
    This Technote provides a string of 14 possible solutions, none of which worked until I got to Solution 6: 'Add the COM add-in file to the Windows registry'. This was done by running the following command in the Win XP Start/Run box.
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Office\PDFMOfficeAddin.dll"
    With hindsight, this problem was almost certainly caused by me letting a Microsoft technician have remote access to my PC a few weeks ago in what proved to be a vain attempt to fix a Microsoft Update error relating to Office. This technician spent 40 mins making many changes to the Registry...

  • How can I make an editable pdf file from Indesign?

    I have created a Indesign dealer catalog for my company and exported it into a interactive PDF for the Engineers to use when helping a customer with ordering. Now they would like to be able to edit the PDF with notes whenever they want. How can they do this?

    PDFs are not designed to be editable. Your engineers can make comments using Adobe Reader without any extra steps provided they use the highlight and sticky note comments. If you want them to have access to the full range of comment markup you will need to use Acrobat to apply extended rights to the file.
