How can I convert an xy graph a waveform graph?

hi!!
Everything is in the title!! I've made an XY graph and I would like to convert it into a waveform. To create this XY graph I give only the coordinates of each point.
Thanks

Hi
As far as I know this is not really possible with a built in function, you will have to do it yourself. In a XY-graph, XY-pairs are painted and connected. A waveform is defined by starttime, dt and the y-values. So if you want to make a waveform, you have to find a dt for the data in your xy-graph. This value will replace the x-value, as each y is at a defined x (yi = t0 + dt*i). In addition to that, you will have to set the y-values at the correct index, which obviously results in an array with zeros between the given values. To avoid this, you will have to interpolate the y-values between your given y-values.
Just an example:
xy-data (x/y): (0/2),(1/4),(1.5/3),(2.5/0)
This would result in the following waveform:
t0 = 0
dt = 0.5
y (before interpolation) 2,0,4,3,0,0,0
Interpolate the missing y values and you should get this waveform:
to = 0
dt = 0.5
y (after interpolation) 2,3,4,3,1.5,0
Hope this helps.

  • How can I label the peak in the waveform graph!

    Hello, my question is a little vague. I try to narrate it clearly.
    Thank you for your patience!
    I work with Labview 7.1. At a word, My question is how to label the
    peaks when using the while loop and the event structure with
    the dobule click event!
    1.Open the Why.VI and execute it.
    2.Click in the 'Acquire signal', then you will find two modes to upload
    the signals, press the 'Read' button and ignore the 'Sample',since 'Sample'
    mode need the support from the hardware, while 'Read' mode just upload file
    from disk,  select the 'Signal.txt'(inluded in the attachment), you will
    find two waveform shown in waveform graph,just like 'Pic1.jpg'. Up to now,
    there is no problem.
    3.Press on the 'Analysis' button and enter a new interface. Amplify the plot
    and selet the the a piece of waveform between about 3.02 and 3.06. Set the
    x coordinate of the 'Cursor 0' as 3.03 and set the width as 0.01. Move the cursor
    you will find two cursors(one vertical lines in yellow and another in blue).
    Double click the graph and select 'valley', two x coordinate values corresponding
    to the x coordinate of the two valleys are listed in the listbox. All above
    mentioned is shown in 'Pic2.jpg'.
    4.Let me explain my idea and my question now. What I have done is plot the waveform
    when clicking in 'Analysis' interface;then, amplify the waveform, select
    a certain area and move the cursors;at last, double click the graph, the waveform
    between the two cursors are selected and the peaks are identified.But, what I need
    next is to label the peaks in the graph as soon as I double click the graph,I
    can not realize this idea because the waveform is out of the while event, the coordinates
    of the peaks can not output until the while event is stopped. If I move the graph
    into the while loop,the selected area can not be keeped because the while loop will
    run continuously and will renovate the plot area to original area, but I want to keep
    the selected area for got the peaks conveniently. In short, My question is about how
    to label the peaks in the graph and keep the seleced area freely.
    This problem has puzzled me for a long time. May anyone give me some advice.
    Thank you for patience and really appreciate your help!
    BTWlease let me know if the VI can not run well!

  • How can I customize the scale of my waveform graph to suit my waveform?

    I am trying to display a sinusoidal waveform on a waverform graph. I want to make sure that the graph displays only 5 cycles of the sine wave and thus changes the x-axis scale accordingly. Hence this would mean that me plot remains the same no matter what the frequency of sine wave I input, only the scale changes. How can I do this? Also once this is done, is there any way in which I can manually change the scale while labview is running to change to plot?

    Here is an example that changes the scale of a graph. I think it is what you are looking for. Post back if it is not.

  • How can I add custom captions to a waveform graph scale?

    I have an application that displays one or more signals in a WvfmGraph.  The X Axis is set by a hardware encoder giving signals vs. distance (measured length).  I would like to change the caption of the XScale according to the values of one of the signals.  Its similar to an XY graph, but differs in that I want to see the data unrolled.
    The problem is that the X Axis scale markers are fixed.  I would like to ask the graph what is range property of the X Axis scale.  Then use that information and a derived position signal to replace the marker values with values from a derived signal that includes relative motion.
    For example, measuring a unit 100 feet long results in measurements of 200 feet worth of data (out and back).  The customer would like to see this data unwrapped 0, 50, 100, 50, 0.
    One alternative is to use an XY Graph, but the data on top of itself.  Not necessarily a bad thing, but not the same as what they have always had.
    I found a similar post to display the scale at a rotation (CW or CCW) and was able to get it to work for my specific case.  The problem is that my picture marker values are not aligning nicely with the corresponding gridlines.

    Stephen,
    Thanks for replying to my post.  XScale.Range does not handle this situation.  In "rigorous" terms, LV does the right thing with X axis scale markers and put them where you want.  I tried to set custom Marker values as: {0, 50, 100, 50, 0} and only saw the first three values.  My guess is that under the hood, the spacing is set to 'Arbitrary' and my custom values are overwritten.  Not what I intended, but I admit my task is not the normal use case.
    Today I am prototyping the entire application with each WvfmGraph replaced with XYGraph's.  Good thing I used a modular design and passed Refnums around to all my subVI's.  Depending on a review of this prototype, I might skip this graph scale formatting.
    FYI, the original graph issue wanted to rotate the marker labels CCW.  They hid the graphs XScale and used a custom picture to display the new scale.  There is a VI that formats an axis with custom labels, where the font, text, etc. can be customized.  I have a working example of that custom scale on a Wvfm graph.  I stopped refinement when I tried to consider use cases for how the user would zoom on the data, how the graph's label's would appear if the DAQ signal indicated that the part reversed on itself.  All the data is better visualized on an XY Graph.
    p.s. are you one of the Waterloo Labs engineers?  Great stuff!

  • How can I eliminate stairsteps between samples in a graph?

    How can I eliminate stairsteps between samples in a graph? I am graphing the input from a fieldpoint AI-100 and I get stairsteps between samples. I'm using Labview 4.1

    Paul,
    It sounds like you are running into the situation where the resolution of the ADC converter is the source of the behavior you see. Your configuration may be set so that a voltage change is not seen between samples, generating multiple points with the same value. If this is the case, the graph you see is correct. It is displaying the points it receives from the FP-AI-100. You can verify this by displaying the graph data in an array, and seeing if some of the adjacent samples show the same value.
    If this is the case, see if you can match the signal range to that of the ADC to take advantage of the resolution available. For example, if you set the range to be 0 to 30 volts, the smallest detectable voltage change would be 7.3 mV (range/gain*2^resolution) bec
    ause the FP-AI-100 has a resolution of 12-bit. You can read up on issues with range and resolution by doing a search on http://www.ni.com using the keywords "range" and "resolution".
    Otherwise you may be able to compensate for this behavior in software, such as running an averaging routine or applying a mathematical formula to the data points.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I convert a wave file to a jpeg file (picture) is it possible???

    Hello:
    How can I convert a wave file to a jpeg file (picture) is it possible???

    zuckini;
    I am pretty sure you know, but just to be completely sure: a wave is (usually) sound signal and a jpeg file is an image.
    If you mean how to display the wave signal in a graph and then save the graph as a jpeg file, then just drop a graph indicator in the control panel, wire the signal. Check any of the example shipped with LabVIEW on how to do this. To get the image, drop a graph indicator's invoke node in the block and select "Get Image". Check this page for detailed information.
    If you have something else in mind, please reply to this message with additional information about the wave signal, the image, etc.

  • How can I convert an InputStream to a FileInputStream ???

    How can I convert an InputStream to a FileInputStream ???

    Thanks for you reply, however, I am still stuck.
    I am trying to convert my application (which runs smoothly) to a signed applet. The following is the original (application) code:
    private void loadConfig() {
    String fileName = "resources/groupconfig";
    File name = new File(fileName);
    if(name.isFile()) {
    try {
         ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream(fileName));
         pAndGConfig = (PAGroupsConfig)in.readObject();
         in.close();
         return;
    } catch(ClassNotFoundException e) {
         System.err.println("++ERROR: "+e);
    } catch(IOException e) {
         System.err.println("++ERROR: "+e);
    System.out.println("Can't find file: " + fileName);
    Because all code and resources now reside in a Jar file (for the signed applet), I must use the following line to access the resources:
    InputStream is = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(fileName);
    I then need to convert the 'InputStream' to 'ObjectInputStream' or 'FileInputStream' so that I can work with it.
    I would be very grateful if you could help shed some light on the matter - Cobram

    I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

    It's almost impossible.  The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that.  Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15.  In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.
    By the way, I found your answer by searching this forum.  I would suggest using the search function here in the futuere.

    How can I convert an array off byte ( byte[] ) into an Object using MIDP 2.0 / CLDC 1.1 ?
    I found on the web 2 functions that made this... but it uses a ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream classes that is not provided by the J2ME plataform...
    How can I do this ?

    Rodrigo Kerkhoff

    There are no ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream classes in CLDC. You must know what you are writing to and reading from the DataStream. You should write the primitives like int, String to the DataOutputstream at one end and read those in exactly the same sequence at the outher end using readInt(), readUTF() methods.

    Hi Plissey1950,
    Sorry for the lengthy delay to a response.  Are you trying to convert multiple files to individual PDF files at the same time? (not combine them).  If so, you'll need to use Adobe Acrobat for this function. The CreatePDF service does not have the ability to convert multiple files to multiple individual PDF files.

  • I recored a video with my ipad, downloaded it to my mac but I cant upload it to Youtube because the format IMG is not a video format. How can I convert it?

    How can I convert a video I took with my ipad on the format IMG to a supported format for Youtube?

    To upload videos to YouTube we have to make sure videos are in a format that YouTube accepts. Here’s the list of some well-known video formats which YouTube supports:
    WebM files (Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codec)
    MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files – (typically supporting h264 and mpeg4 video codecs and AAC audio codec)
    AVI (Many cameras output this format – typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM)
    MPEGPS (Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio)
    WMV)
    FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio)
    But I think you get the wrong video file. iPad recorded video files are in m4v, mp4, mov, avi format but not the img files. Anyway, if you need a video converter, Format factory or iFunia video converter are good choice.
    Good luck!
