How can I create this rollover effect in Flash CS5?

I'm pretty new to Flash, and I want to create a button like these.
I understand how to make a basic rollover button, but I haven't got a clue how to do animation like that.

the easiest way would be to create one movieclip that has
1. a rectangular mask (to mask everything),
2. a dynamic textfield with whatever colored and embedded font.
3. whatever colored background
4. another textfield that has a y property greater than the mask so it's not visible until the mask is rolled over. embed the font
5. another background for the rolled over movieclip
everything will need instance names so you can control with actionscript. you can then assign rollover and rollout code to your movieclip mask.
on rollover, you'll tween the first textfield (and possibly background) to a y less than your mask. tween the textfield with easing. and you'll tween the 2nd textfield and 2nd background to about the same y as your mask. again, tween the textfield with easing but not the background.

Might be able to create it with Filter > Render > Clouds with your foreground and background colors set to the lighter and darker versions of your selected color. Then you might need to use Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur to smooth things out

I am attempting to design a site. I have the idea for the
layout and have created it using tables at the address above. I
realize I should be using css to create the layout instead of
tables. First of all - is this layout difficult to create using css
- and where would I start with that? I ordered an HTML/CSS book and
will dig in when it arrives.
Secondly - I want an image to appear in the empty space
(where there is an empty table right now) when I mouse over a menu
item - ie when I mouse over "wood veneer" I want a graphic to
appear in the empty space - that would be java script, no?
So I would layout the page using html and css, then add some
java script in to make the roll over thing happen?

Use the bezier tool to create your shapes, give the shapes an Airbrush outline. Then apply a Write On behavior to each shape. Position the shapes in the timeline so they appear sequentially. To achieve the zooming out effect, you can either scale the whole group, or convert the group to 3D and use the camera to zoom out.

Hi there,
You can create a scroll motion where the image will fade out on scrolling, you need to use the Opacity tab under Scroll Effects Panel.
If you particularly need the image to be blur out, then you need to edit that image in any image editing program and make one copy of that image as blurred, then place both images (actual and blurred) on that page and use scroll motion or fade option to replace images.

I would make several copies of the original artwork. On each copy, section the individual areas to be gradients. It looks like you have at least four gradients, both linear and radial. It's just a matter of building each section and then reassembling each. Not too complex, yet nice piece of artwork.

While the Note 4 is a reasonably large device it still falls into the phone layout bucket. We need this layout to function on very small screens some as low as 320 pixels high and 240 pixels wide. These sorts of devices don't have the space for a full toolbar.

you can just have everything in an entire H box or V box with
a "move left" and "move right" function, that moves the X
coordinates once the button is clicked.. should be as easy as that.
to make it smooth like that you'd need a few extra components but
shouldn't be that hard.

I am pretty new to After Effects and I'm getting to grips with all the particle effects and have managed to create some cool looking animations, but I'm trying to create the particle effect as seen in the image link below. Can anyone tell me how this is done, and what plug-in (if any) would be used to create something like this? I can't get anything I do to look like this. Thanks...

Create the custom particle in Photoshop or a separate comp. Drag the custom particle into your main comp, turn its visibility off, set Particular's particle setting to "Custom Particle", and choose the new layer as the source.
Create a camera for the comp and turn on "Depth of field". Experiment with the settings until you get the desired effect.
Personally, I'd use two Particular layers for that look, one for the larger particles and another for the smaller ones.

Widgets. You'll need to probably create a subclass of JPanel, which will have a JLabel for the icons, and a JButton.
You'll probably need to call setPreferredSize(..) on the button to obtain the text trailing effect when the text overflows the boundaries.
Also, you could add a mouseListener to the panel to create the selection effect when it is clicked, or when any of its sub components are clicked. (recursion methods help to achieve this).
Scaling in size, now that is tricky. To do this, you'll probably have to calculate the width of the panel manually, by summing up the heights of the components and maintaining a fixed width. No an easy task though.
This is a nice component, so get writing. Here is a little help with the recursion

I am trying to create a certain effect in Final Cut Express HD and I have no idea how to do it or if it is possible.
I need to highlight a certain part of a clip. Say for example you are looking at a crowd of people on a screen and a particular person is singled out and highlighted with a cirle - in effect dimming the rest of the scene...this is the effect I want to create.
If this is not possible, is there a way that I can use graphics to have an arrow pointing to that person in the scene...?

It is reasonably easy to achieve. Basically it is like blurring out a face but in your case lightening it.
In this link you will find a tutorial called "Cops" which you can watch as it is explained. All you have to do is use the brightness control instead of the Gaussian Blur.

I'm trying to remake a gloss effect, but I can't figure out how she did it.
In one of the files, I found out how it works.
The gloss effect is a pentagon placed over an image, like in the picture I included.
