How can I design Load Balancing for distant Datacenters? without single point of failure

Dear Experts,
We are using the following very old and passive method of redundancy for our cload SaaS but it's time to make it approperiate. Can youplease advise:
Current issues:
1. No load balancing. IP selection is based on primary and secondary IP configurations. If Primary fails to respond, IP record for DNS changes to secondary IP with TTL=1min
2. When primary server fails, it takes around 15 min for clients to access the servers. Way too long!
The target:
A. Activate a load balancing mechanism to utilized the stand-by server.
B. How can the solution be designed to avoid single point of failure? In the previous example, UltraDNS is a single point of failure.
C. If using GSS is the solution, how can it be designed in both server locations (for active redundancy) using ordinary DNS server?
D. How can HSRP, GSS, GSLB, and/or VIP be used? What would be the best solution?
Servers are running ORACLE DB, MS SQL, and tomcat with 2x SAN of 64TB each.

Hi Codlick,
the answer is, you cannot (switch to two web dispatchers).
If you want to use two web dispatchers, they need something in front, like a hardware load balancer. This would actually work, as WD know their sessions and sticky servers for those. But remember you always need a single point for the incoming address (ip).
Your problem really is about switchover groups. Both WD need to run in different switchover groups and need to switch to the same third software. I'm not sure if your switchover software can handle this (I'm not even sure if anyone can do this...), as this means the third WD needs to be in two switchover groups at the same time.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Benny

How can I check my balance for my I tunes gift card on my I pad?

You can view the balance of your iTunes account : on my iPad it shows at the bottom of, for example, the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id (or you can view your account via Settings > iTunes & App Store and it should show on the screen that you are taken to). If your balance is zero then it might not show.

  • How to enable Network load balancing for Enterprise portal

    Hello,
We have installed EP 7.0 central instance(00) and dialog instance (01) and would like to enable network load balancing between these two EP servers.Have installed network balancer and the configuration has been done at network level.
The below URLs are being used for accessing the portal
    Central instance :
    http://CIhostname:50000/irj/portal
    Dialog Instance:
    http://DIhostname:50100/irj/portal
Both the port number has to be same for enabling load balancing. In order to acive this we have to map this port to http port by making some changes in Visual Administrator.
Can you please let me know step by step  procedure or any link where i can find the same?
    Appreciate your response
    Thanks,
    Vadi

    Dear Jay,
    Thnaks for your reply.
No...NLB will helpful in load balancing between different 2 different  application (Ep)servers.
We are using microsoft network load balancer.Found the service http provider in VA for making those changes.
    Any way thanks.

  • How to configure software load balancer for R12.1.3

    Dear All,
I need to configure software load-balancer on application tiers and i need to know if its possible to have a software load-balancer in place of hardware load balancer if i need to route the load on two application nodes.
    Thanks !

As we do not certify, nor support 3rd party loadbalancers we can not confirm that the Piranha loadbalancer will perform as expected with EBS. The basic minimum requirements or loadbalaning is that it has death detection, and session / cookie persistence We also typically require that a hardware loadbalancer is used. Internally we use F5 loadbalancers, and Cisco ACE.
What are the limitations of a software load balancer compared to hardware ? As mentioned above, your software balancer should has the capability of "death detection, and session/cookie persistence" -- More details can be found in (Implementing Load Balancing On Oracle E-Business Suite - Documentation For Specific Load Balancer Hardware [ID 727171.1]).
Oracle Web Cache can be used as a software load balancer (which is an Oracle product), but Oracle recommends you do not use it in production instances.

  • How can we design a PO for an '.out' file?

I have a requirement to develop a PO form based on '.out' file supplied. All the data is positioned in the 'out' file but no field information. I have access to '.rdf' (report definition file). Form needs to be developed in JetForm Output designer 5.4 or 5.5. Please advice How do I start and what all I need to start.

If by stating "All the data is positioned in the 'out' file but no field information" you mean it is a file that contains the data in some format, such as a report, fixed length file, comma delimited, etc. then do some research on the Transformation Agent. It can take files such as this and reformat them, adding the field name, into the field-nominated format that the other Central agents understand.
With the Visual Transformation Editor you can use a fairly good drag & drop interface to build the necessary control files for the Transformation Agent.
Both the TA & VTE come as part of Central - at least they did when we purchased it.
I'm no expert using the VTE as it has been several months since I've worked with it but I'll be getting back into using it over the next few weeks. I expect to pick up where I left off after just a few hours of refamiliarizing myself.

  • How can I observe load balance event when I have setup FCF?

    Dear expert,
I have setup two nodes RAC on linux and implement FCF. HA event works fine, because after one node down, connections to failed node in OC4J connection pool were cleaned up immediately. And I can observe HA event like
    FINER: eventType= 256, svcName= orclx, instName= orclx1, db Name= orclx, hostName= linuxrac1, status= down, cardinality= 0
But I cannot observe LB event, it should be received too, shouldn't it?

Enabling Event Notification for Connection Failures in Oracle Real Application Clusters
Event notification is enabled if the SQL_ORCLATTR_FAILOVER_CALLBACK and SQL_ORCLATTR_FAILOVER_HANDLE attributes of the SQLSetConnectAttr function are set when a connection failure occurs in an Oracle RAC Database environment. Both attributes are set using the SQLSetConnectAttr function. The symbols for the new attributes are defined in the sqora.h file. The SQL_ORCLATTR_FAILOVER_CALLBACK attribute is used to specify the address of a routine to call when a failure event takes place.
The SQL_ORCLATTR_FAILOVER_HANDLE attribute is used to specify a context handle which will be passed as one of the parameters in the callback routine. This attribute is necessary in order for the ODBC application to determine which connection the failure event is taking place on.
The function prototype for the callback routine is as follows:
    void failover_callback(void *handle, SQLINTEGER fo_code)
The handle parameter is the value that was set by the SQL_ORCLATTR_FAILOVER_HANDLE attribute. Null is returned if the attribute has not been set.
The fo_code parameter identifies the failure event that is taking place. The failure events map directly to the events defined in the OCI programming interface. The list of possible events is as follows:
    ODBC_FO_BEGIN
    ODBC_FO_ERROR
    ODBC_FO_ABORT
    ODBC_FO_REAUTH
    ODBC_FO_END

  • How can I enable Touch ID for Apple Pay without turning Passcode on?

    I have an iPhone 6 w/ iOS 8.1.
I strongly dislike having to unlock my phone when I want to use it. Until I purchased the iPhone 6, I have never enabled a passcode. My phone is never out of my immediate control and when I want to access my phone, I want to access it immediately, not put in a passcode or wait for it to recognize my finger print.
There are separate settings for "Turn Passcode On/OFF" and for enabling the use of Touch ID for Unlock/Apple Pay/iTunes. However, if you turn off passcode, All three of the Touch ID Options are immediately disabled. Unlock makes sense, as your phone would no longer be "locked". However disabling Apple Pay and especially iTunes/App Store (since those purchases require you enter your Apple ID Password, NOT the passcode!) does not make sense.
The inconvenience of the extra unlock step every time I want to use my phone to do anything almost certainly will negate any convenience of using my phone to make purchases.
Am I missing a configuration? If not there should be a way to use Touch ID without having an unlock passcode!

NO in order to use the touch id, you need to enable a 4 digit passcode.
    No way around that.
Imagine when you lose your phone and the person who has it can access anything on your phone because it's an extra step to have to use the touch id or enter the 4 digit passcode to lock/unlock your phone.

  • How can I upload new OS for iphone 3 without syncing?

I'm trying to download the software, but it's taking forever to sync.  Is there a way I can download without syncing?

To reply to the original question: go to iTunes Preferences, then Devices and check the 'prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically' option. You can then connect your device and choose to download updates only. You will need to hit the 'sync' button when you want to do this from now on though, unless you deselect the prevent automatic syncing option in preferences again. Hope this helps

It used to be more common to be asked how to uninstall such toolbars. I think It will now be known as a Bing bar, but as far as I know it is no longer supported for Firefox. You may find some unofficial addons with similar types of functions.

Buy something for more than the balance and charge the remainder to a credit card, or write Apple and ask them to keep the balance.

  • Hadrware load balancing for WLS 5.1

Rather than using the proxy plug-in to determine which server to dispatch a request to in case of failover, I would like to use hardware load balancer. So on normal conditions, the load-balancer would look at the primary server in the cookie and route the request accordingly. If it gets no response, it would reexamine the cookie and forward the request to the secondary server holding the state.
Has anybody done this? Which hardware load balancer were you using? Is there a definitive spec for the weblogic cookie so that we can try configuring the load balancer? (in the BEA docs I can only find info about the position of the primary server in the cookie).
              Thanks, Matt

  • CSS Load balancing for Exchange Server

    Hi,
I have CSS configured in single arm and I have multiple servers configured for load balancing and it is working fine but when I am configuring Exchange server for load balancing I am facing problem and applications and printer/scanners are not able to send the email through the Virtual IP address configured for exchaneg server.
But if we configured the real server IP in the printer/scanners they are able to send the email. While checking the logs on the exchange server, it is showing that request for the email so coming from the Exchange VIP configured in the CSS.
I can telnet on port 25 on the VIP address (192.168.200.237). But unable to send the email through this VIP.
    Below is the configuration

Please let me know how to solve this problem. System team is saying with the physical IP address it is working fine problem with Load balancing. I have even tried with the
Add service command in the group but didnt work for me. If i will remove the group command then I cant telnet on port 25.
I think this is related to single arm modle or some wrong configuration for the NAT.
    Kindly assist me

  • Installing 2 Application server and 1 DB server and load balancing for 11i

    Hi,
I need info on how to install and configure load balancing for 11.5.8 on Win2000. The scenario: 1 db server DB, 2 apps/web/forms servers AP1 and AP2. Using rapid install you can only specify one db server A and one form server in multi node installations, right? How do I install the form server on AP2? Can I use the same config.txt? The computer name for AP2 is different.
    Thanks & Regards,

Can anybody tell how to configure the load balancer in BPEL Cluster ..? I am not able to get the correct documents for that. I want the request from the client can be redirect to any of the cluster server that will be having the PPEL Process deployed.
Can i use third party load balancer also or can i use oracle http server as load balancer ....how to configure in both the case?

    Hi Dominik.
Thanks for responding to my message.
Where could i find more info relating to the WEB dispatcher.
I also posted a message on OSS and SAP did not mention
a WEB Dispatcher. (Startup Framework and the J2ee dispatcher handing the load balancing)
Is the WEB dispatcher a must or are there alternate solutions. I am still confused on this topic ??
On the current EP5 release, the load balancing is handled
    via MS Load Balancing.
Thanks and appreciate the help !!

How much it is cost? and is there any free alternative we can use which supported by Oracle?

Apart from F5, Cisco is another SLB vendor. I am not sure about any free alternative though.
Note that regardless what SLB that you pick, it should meet the requirements documented in section 29.3.2.2 of the EM12c Release 3 Administrator's Guide:
The SLB must provide support for multiple virtual server ports. Enterprise Manager typically requires that up to 4 ports are configured on the SLB (Secure Upload, Agent Registration, Secure Console, Unsecure Console)
Support for persistence. HTTP and HTTPS traffic between the browser and the OMS requires persistence
Support for application monitoring. The SLB must be capable of monitoring the health of the OMSs and detecting failures, so that requests will not be routed to OMSs that are not availa
