How Can I Network My New Printer?

My trusty Epson 880 printer finally gave up the ghost and I replaced it with a very basic Epson Stylus T20E sold here in Thailand. One of the immediate disappointments is that I could not print wirelessly, as I had with the Epson 880, using my Airport Express. The printer shows in Airport Express, but I keep getting a message about a communications error. I've pretty much given up on trying to get it to work wirelessly and now have it plugged in via USB to my iBook.
I also have a Mac Mini and without the wireless connection have not been able to print at all. The USB cord is not long enough to reach it. Since the two Macs are networked, I thought that I could perhaps use the Airport Express network connection to as a conduit to the USB connected printer on the iBook. I have print sharing enabled on both Macs, but even after identifying the T20E as a shared printer, when I try to print something, the app, in this case TextEdit, I get the beach ball and have to Force Quit the app. Why shouldn't this networked connection work?
Let me add two things. First, the Mini is running Tiger and the iBook is running Leopard. I wouldn't think that should make a difference. Second, I have not installed any drivers for the T20E on the Mini --- since this is a new model, they certainly wouldn't be there already on the Mini running Tiger. I would have thought that since I am networking and since the drivers are on the iBook, which is connected to the printer, it isn't necessary to have the drivers on the Mini. Are those valid assumptions? Should I install the drivers on the Mini? I should also add that when I was trying to troubleshoot the problem with getting the printer to work with Airport Express, I could see the T20E in Bonjour.
Transferring print files between the Mini and the iBook with a thumb drive is a real step backwards and any suggestions on how to use the network to reach the printer attached to the iBook would sure be appreciated.

and computers so they'd have an address similar to an IP address?
If there is an Ethernet port on the printer, as many have, this may be
a way to see if networking can be done in a suitable configuration for
use in your local network.
One would think what you have tried, using one computer as a printer
base and sending the print order to it, and have that do the work, could
do the job; but for some reason, or lack of compatibility, it's not doing it.
Could a different brand of wireless print server work with the printer you
have, where the AirPort wireless does not? A second question would be
something to the effect: would the Mac then work with that other product.
These are things I do not know; but understand the frustration in all this.
Are there any other possible printer drivers which could allow for better
compatibility with a printer to get it to be used as a wireless printer with
the AirPort base station? Gimp or GutenPrint open source, or perhaps
some shareware source of drivers may have something. Trial & error?
I have one printer that appreciates the AirPort Bonjour connection and
another that just can't figure it out; so the printer I wanted to be wireless
isn't and the one very close is. The portable computer can use it, too.
Well, that's an unfortunate situation; and maybe there is a workaround
which does not include having to get another printer. A list of printers
which were compatible with wireless printing over AirPort had been
available at some point; I saw one a few years ago. There must be an
updated list available, perhaps through Apple Support documents...?

I would suggest you to uninstall Adobe Reader using the cleaner tool and then re-install the latest version.

How can I add a new printer in Classic?

I recently re-installed OS X following a printing problem on my iBook G4 which has system 10.3.9 and Classic. All works fine except that I still need to use Classic for one application and to print from it. I have an HP Deskjet 5150 that used to work fine. I can print on it from OS X but in Classic the printer in not in the chooser nor in Utlity Printing Service so obviously I can't select it to try to print. What do I have to do to get the printer in chooser? I also want to put Acrobat writer in the chooser but I imagine it's the same process?
Please help I've spent a long time on it already without success!

Just for your info, MacBooks can't run Classic, so your question is not as likely to be known the answer to by MacBook owners unless they have had previous experience, or also have machines able to run Classic.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

i know its not a problem whit my carrier o data plan or sharing preferences on the ipone because when i use it un my laptop it works perfectly through
the usb and even works on the Imac through wifi and bluethood tethering but NOT through usb!!.
the problem is that trying to make it work i deleted the "profile" usb iphone on the network prefereces panel. Now i only have 3 options: ethernet / wifi / bluetooth
but not the usb iPhone i used to have.
And when i try to add a new one i dont get a USB option.

Several times in the last year, I've gotten a message that Time Machine needs to completely redo my backup. Using the wireless connection, this takes almost two days. Is there a way to do the backup with ethernet and then switch back to wireless? Thanks.

May I know what is needed to make sure the MacBook is able to see Time Capsule on ethernet?
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2Wire gateway to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule.
If AirPort Utility cannot "see" the Time Capsule now, you will need to perform a "hard reset" by holding in the reset button for 7-8 seconds or so and then reconfigure the Time Capsule. You can use the same Time Capsule name and password, etc. as before.
Configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network" and select the Bridge Mode option when it appears during the setup using AirPort Utility.
Once the Time Capsule is configured, restart the entire network again. Power down everything, start the 2Wire first and then start each other device after that one at a time about a minute apart.
Now you can connect your Mac directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule for the backup using another Ethernet cable. In general, about 20-25 GB per hour will transfer.
The Time Capsule will broadcast a much faster wireless network than the 2Wire can provide, so you might want to leave the setup "as is" for awhile after the first backup is complete. If you decide to use the Time Capsule as your main wireless access point, you would want to turn the wireless off on the 2Wire since two wireless networks in close proximity can create interference problems.
Or, if you want to use the wireless on the 2Wire, you could turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule. Then backups will occur over the 2Wire wireless, or over Ethernet.
I don't really recommend the "Join a wireless network" setting on the Time Capsule for most users, but you could go back to that setup as well if you want after the first backup is complete.

Hook it up and see if it works. If it is one of the more common printer brands/models, it could very well have it's drivers installed, depending on how your OS was installed. If not, you can always go to the support site for your printer and download the drivers, if necessary.

Download AA 9 Pro from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. Make a new backup for your archive. You might also take the DVD to your library to see if it is a drive problem. You might also carefully clean the DVD with water and soap (do not use anything that would scratch the surface or you have destroyed it for sure) and see if that solves the problem. This is particularly an issue if you have finger prints or other crud on the DVD. However, it could also be a bad drive as I mentioned. Hopefully the download solves your problem in any case (I would backup the download to CD and/or backup HD).

For printing to paper where layout is important, I use Numbers '09 (Numbers 2.3) with its Print View. But it is orphanware. As the name suggests, there has not been a major overhaul since 2009. With that in mind, it is a useful version to hang onto while we hope and wait (and provide feedback to Apple) for something in future versions of Numbers 3.x to provide better layout capability.
Indeed, each new update of Numbers 3.x has restored more of the old features while adding new features that are enhancements over Numbers '09. Many of the Numbers 3 enhancements reflect long-awaited wishes through this forum, and were passed on by Numbers Feedback to Apple. So it seems that Apple does take heed of feedback.
In the meantime, I enjoy the charm of Numbers '09 whilst exploring the new features of Numbers 3.

Some workarounds are no longer needed, but what amazes me is how many Numbers '09 features (the so-called "lost" features) were not lost; the settings have simply been moved. Moreover, many features such as margin settings carry over with a Numbers '09 document or template into Numbers 3.

Keep in mind this is not a full install mechanism and is not a substitute for the $70 item I mentioned previously. The network must still be accessable to perform a full re-install.
This method is a good backup for the recovery partition, though.
