How can I periodicaly get data from a CAN interface that works in "Transmit by response" mode??

Hello Again!
I am a very new user of LabView, and last week I got the order to implement a Comunication with  a CAN interface.
I am trying to get Information from a CAN interface, that works as a "slave", as it is said in the very short handbook. This means it only responds, when it is asked to.
As i want to get the 20 different datas periodicaly it would be fine to do this in a kind of loop. This means:
-tell the interface to send data1
-read data 1
-tell the interface to send  data 2
Are there any examples or ideas, how to create similar loops?
As I am absolutely no expert in computing, it would be nice if you answer with very little technical terms...
Thanks RT

Hi RT,
Try the attached example, which writes a remote frame to your slave and reads the response. It is doing this 20 times in a for loop and a specified timing.
Hope that helps.

  • How to show all the data from playback area so that the statictics max and min analysis applies to the entire logged data.

    I have a data file with 19 channels of voltage and I what to retrieve the maximum, minimum and mean of the entire run for each channel. When I do playback it does only 25 seconds of data and being a newbie I have no idea nor can see anyway of changing this.
    One thought I had was to run playback with a save to LVM then go to mointor area and load the saved file followed by a statictics step.
    Is there any other option?

    We need more information to help you.  Specifically, the following would be nice:
    What format is your data file in (can you post an example?  Please zip it to save space.)
    Can you post your read and/or write code?  The problem may be there.
    What version of LabVIEW are you using.  This can effect our recommendations.
    As you discerned, there is no fundamental reason for this problem.  On a side note, LVM is a poor format for large amounts of data or a disk buffer.  I would recommend TMDS or HWS, depending on your version of LabVIEW.

    Hi all.Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and update your profile with a real handle instead of "944378".
    When you have a problem you'll get a faster, more effective response by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
    <li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
    <li>Theme
    <li>Template(s)
    <li>Region/item type(s) (making particular distinction as to whether a "report" is a standard report, an interactive report, or in fact an "updateable report" (i.e. a tabular form)
    With APEX we're also fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand

    report only can get view/table ?????"Cousor"? You mean "REF CURSOR"? (Note that there is a spellchecker available when posting to the forum: click the button marked with "ABC" and a tick.)
    APEX does not have native support for basing reports on REF CURSORs.

  • Process Class:How to give and get data from an exe file continuously???

    hi,,,
    I am trying to run an executable file from my program to give it input and read its output....
    And i am having problems...
    The exe file takes one input and appends to it "1235" (ITS A TEST CASE).
    When it is only for a single input , the program rums perfectly.. but when it is within a loop it does not
    Pls help
    Here is the code for that EXE file. (its in C)
    #include<stdio.h>
    int main()
    char a[10];
    int i;
    int k=1235;
    while(1){
    scanf("%s",a);
    if(a[0]=='s')
    break;
    printf("%s%d\n",a,k);
    }Note that when i remove the loop here, my code is able to get and give it data.
    My JAVA program::
    import java.io.*;
    public class Main {
      public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
            try {
          String line;
          Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec
            ("C:\\users\\Untitled3.exe");
           BufferedWriter   out=new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(p.getOutputStream()));
              out.write("dfgsfs\n");
              time= java.lang.System.nanoTime();
              out.flush();
          BufferedReader input =new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
         while ((line = input.readLine()) != null) {
            System.out.println(input.readLine());
          input.close();
        catch (Exception err) {
          err.printStackTrace();
    }PLS HELP

    I see a problem in your C code. You're not flushing stdout after you printf and that usually means java is not seeing whats your C program is printing.
    removing the loop probably works because stdout is being flushed right before exit.
    I used a perl script to test your stuff and found that flushing made the trick
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    open(OUTFILE,">>./output.txt");
    $| = 1;
    while (<STDIN>) {
        if (m/.*error.*/) {
            print STDERR  $_;
        } else {
            print STDOUT  $_;
        print OUTFILE $_;
        if (m/exit/) {
            last;
    close(OUTFILE);
    exit;notice "$| =1;" that autoflushes in perl (just in case you were wondering where my flush call went)
    Enjoy!

    Yes, there are VIs for acquiring data from Sound cards. And examples too. If you don't have LabVIEW yet, do a search on NI's site for example VIs.

    The data file extension with ".FD" , ".VW" , ".LSS" & "SLP"

    You're probably better off consulting the documentation for the DOS program you're trying to deal with than hoping someone here will be able to guess what program you're using, identify the structure of the files, and tell you how to extract the data into something Oracle can import.

    Hi
    You need to enhance (write a user exit) for your Data Source.

  • Can we get data from business views  in CR 2008/XI?

    Hi All,
    Can we get data from business views  in CR 2008/XI?
    If its possible, pls let us know how to get connect with Business View in both of these versions and what is the tool that we have to use to create Business Views.
    Thank you,
    Krishna Pingali

    Hi Krishna,
    Crystal Reports/BusinessObjects Enterprise ( BOE ) Business Views can only be created using the BV build which comes with BOE and installed using the Work Station installer for BOE. for both XI and 2008.
    You cannot mix these two versions on the same PC not can one talk to the other, the BV designer must match the same version as BOE. XI ( version 11.0 ) is no longer available but if you mean XI R2 ( version 11.5 ) then it still is.
    It's not completely clear which Business View you are referring to? BOE has a Business View Designer so not sure if this is just a naming problem or not? If you are referring to the BOE Business View Designer then the above is true. If your reference is about some other BV designer or data source then you need to clarify.

    Thank you
