  • How can I play a movie in iTunes mini player?  (Progress bar button broken?)

It took forever to figure out how to get iTunes to even OPEN a new window for movie playback, but once I finally found instructions (click the button with movie art to the left of the progress bar to open in new window) they only partially worked.  A new window opens, but movie playback continues in the main window.  The new window shows a freeze frame of the scene displayed at the moment I clicked the progress bar button.  The new window looks just like the mini player, and its control buttons work, but they effect the main window's movie playback not the new window/mini player where I want to watch the movie.
Is it my progress bar that's broken?  I'm all updated with iTunes version 11.1.5.  Does this version not play well with my OS X 10.6.8?
Ultimately I just want to be able to play a movie in the mini player while using other applications; surely that's possible.
[Also, on the "Operating System" dropdown menu below, I just selected OS X 10.6.8 and then the dropdown showed "No operating system selected" and the selection arrows no longer work.  Any ideas what happened?  My MacBook Old feels so janky right now.]

You need to convert the AVI file to MP4.  Here is just one of the many converters available (via Google) http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/oca/mp4-converter?gclid=CJnqnpaF37gCFc fJtAod8RUAeg

  • Trouble playing downloaded audiobooks with Window Media Player

I can’t get audible book downloads from Net Library to play on my computer. Microsoft Windows Media player v9 and above is required to listen to eAudiobooks. I have this version. When I try to launch a download I get the message: cannot open file; verify file and path are correct. What do I need to do?

Hi, kathy. Welcome to the Discussions.
The Net Library audio books you are downloading are undoubtedly using a version of WMA-DRM (Windows Media Audio - Digital Rights Management) later than version 1.3. According to this post on another forum and related info on Microsoft's Web site here, version 1.3 is the latest version of WMA-DRM supported by WMP9 for Mac OS X.
In other words, the audio books use a later version of DRM (specifically the Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager ) than that supported by WMP9. They simply will not play in WMP9.
Flip4Mac will not help you here:
    • It clearly states on this page that "Note: Flip4Mac does not support content that is protected with Windows Media digital rights management (DRM). "• Flip4Mac would not let you convert the WMA-DRM-protected files to QuickTime files as this would require cracking the DRM protection, a violation of the U.S. DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act).
Accordingly, you're out of luck with the Net Library audio books that do not play in WMP9 unless you have a PC running Windows and WMP10.
That Net Library went with files protected by WMA-DRM is a sore point for many Mac users. Search for Net Library in this page for some examples of similarly frustrated users.
    Good luck!

  • Can't run some MOV in Windows Media Player

I find that some of my MOV files will run in Windows Media Player and some will not. I'm not sure what is causing this and don't know where to start. The only things I know that is different is that in the details the MOV's that won't play don't have any height or width. There is no error I can find.

I generate a large number of MOV files every week for the media company I work  for. 100% work as expected and have for some time now. We spent months finding the right variables to produce a file type that was optimal for the applications we use to display multiple full motion content. All these files were only a portion of the screen with a banner running below (weather, news ticker, etc.). Recently I was asked to produce MOV files that take up the entire screen. 0% of them work and I have only changed the screen size. I have been converting them to WMV's to make it work but that is extra work and I don't have the time to maintain two sets of content for my clients and my clients don't want to handle two sets either. I think I am missing a setting or something that is causing the full screen movies to output with no height or width.

  • How can i play online radio stations using media player on my Mac?

I'm trying to listen to a local radio station online but when I click the listen live link it just brings me to a blank screen, I've downloaded a Mac compatible "Media Player" but not sure how to get this specific webpage to lauch using that? This may be a simple anwser but i'm stumped!!

What do you mean Keynote "son't open the DVDs"? That doesn't make sense. It's not up to Keynote to open the DVDs. The file that are ON the DVDs, yes. The DVDs, no. What kind of files are they, exactly?
Try downloading Open Office and see if you can open them with Impress, the presentation program included with the Open Office package.
If that won't work, you can get a 1 month trial of Office365 from Microsoft. It's $9.99 a month after the trial ends.

  • How can I convert audio files from Windows Media player to WMV?

I am unable to add a soundtrack if it is a WMA file.  What programs are best to convert files to WMV?

If you are wishing to add the WMA soundtrack to a PrE Project, I would convert/rip the WMA to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, and then Import that WAV file into the PrE Project. Drag it to a free Audio Track. Though there is a Soundtrack Track, some users have had issues with it. Any free Audio Track, with the necessary channel-count is likely to work better.
For the conversion/ripping, there are many programs that can do this for you. I use Adobe Audition, but the great, free Audacity can do it nicely, as well.
As WMA can have aspets, like 6-channel Audio, wrapped in the WMA, I like doing the conversion, unless I need, say the 6 discrete channels in Audition, for output to DTS Audio with the SurCode DTS encoder program.
    Good luck,

  • How can I play multiple movies on quicktime like I can on windows medplayer

How can I play multiple movies on quicktime. When i click on open file it will only let me choose one movie to play. For example When ever I used windows media player I could drag my mouse over numerous files and it would play them one after another like in a list format. Can anyone help with this?
    Thank you

    Hi Brennan,
Only HDMI is going to support audio & video on the single cable. Which MacBook Air do you have? Here's a great article regarding this - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241. Also keep in mind that only the current generation of MacBook Airs support this. The previous generation, also with MiniDisplay Port would support HDMI but you'd need to run a separate line from the headphone port over AUX for audio.
The first and second generation models, which have micro-DVI, do not support audio. Regarding the RCA cables, Apple offers adapters that allow you to go to VGA and that would probably be your best bet. I do not believe there's a MiniDisplay Port to RCA solution out there, you'd need to do multiple adapters and that's always a questionable performance solution.

How can I play .avi movies on my mac?
    Quicktime pro doesn't do it.
If there's some kind of patch or something, please give me the url/link!
    Thanks!

How can I play .avi movies on my mac? With difficulty.
Quicktime pro doesn't do it.Generally speaking, no -- not without third-party components.
If there's some kind of patch or something, please give me the url/link!Try Perian (free). It contains a collection of popular PC codecs which may or may not support the specific files you want. If not, you have to determine what particular codec is required, find out if it is available, and then download/install it. (Not all AVI audio/video file formats have been ported for Mac use.) Even then, if it is a proprietary codec and you want to be able to convert to/from that format, you may have to purchase/register the component.

  • While installing a program (MediaCenter.exe) to handle audiobooks from the library, I erroneously associated the download site with Windows Media Player instead of the actual application (NetLibrary Media Center). How can I reverse/change this?

While installing a program (MediaCenter.exe) to handle audiobooks from the library, I erroneously associated the download site with Windows Media Player instead of the actual application (NetLibrary Media Center). How can I reverse/change this? Reinstalling the application does not clear the error, so I'm assuming the association is somewhere in Firefox.

Never mind -- I just found it under Tools/Options.../Applications, where I changed the incorrect association of "nlmcp" from Windows Media Player to the correct one, NetLibrary Media Center. Done!

How can i play a movie in keynote from more than 600 seconds between other slides in a automatic loop

The maximum duration available for an automatic presentation in Keynote is 600 seconds.
The alternatives are to export a QuickTime video, use other presentation applications, a media server player or digital signage application.

  • QuickTime .mov plays upside-down in Windows Media Player

I know the cause of this: If you record using an iPhone with the volume buttons pointed at the ceiling, the resulting video plays upside-down in Windows Media Player. QuickTime is smart enough to correct and rotate automatically. Not so WMP. I have several clips that were recorded with the volume buttons pointed up. If I use QuickTime Player to rotate the clips, then they are correct when viewed in WMP, but upside-down in QuickTime Player!
Is there any way to fix these clips so they are right-side up in both worlds? Or is there no choice but to re-record everything with iPhone's volume buttons pointed at the floor?

Your assumptions are only partially correct. When you record the clip on your iPhone, the clip is recorded just as you see it in the WMP—i.e., upside down. What the iPhone does is records an addition file value that tells Apple media players which edge to display as the "top" during playback. Since third-party media players ignore this value, they display the clip in its original orientation which, in your case is upside down. When you flip the video orientation using QT 7 Pro, you're telling QT media players to play the file with an "upside down" orientation. By exporting the "flipped" orientation, you are, in fact, re-encoding the original "upside down" to a "right-side up" display but simultaneously telling all Apple media players to play the file upside down.
Is there any way to fix these clips so they are right-side up in both worlds? Or is there no choice but to re-record everything with iPhone's volume buttons pointed at the floor?
Actually, you can do either. That is, you can either "fix" the original recordings or re-record the the clips in a manner that avoids this problem. To "fix" your original files, simple open the files in an Apple media player (like QT 7 Pro) and export the files. The player will note the current "top" orientation and re-encode the content using the current display orientation for both QT and third-party players.
