How can i split my itunes library between two different accounts?

For years my son has always been a part of our itunes library.  now that he is off at college, I would like to split his music off from our library to a library of his own with his own account info.  Is this possible?

Copy it to his computer into his iTunes library and authorize his computer with the iTunes account used to purchase them..
You cannot tranfser items from one iTunes account to another. Purchased items remain part of the iTunes account is was purchased with.
iTunes account - used to purchase items
iTunes library - where purchases (and CD RIPs) go on the computer

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

  • I would like the share an iTunes library between two different accounts on one Mac. How do I do this?

iTunes no longer works properly (aka at all) while using one of the user accounts set up on my iMac. It does, however, work when logging in under another user account on the same iMac. (if any of you can help me solve this issue that would be perfect). If there is no solution can anyone help with my request to share an iTunes library between two different accounts on one Mac. How do I do this?

  • Can I split my iTunes library between two HD's?

I am planning on converting my movie library and putting it on a large external HD, so that I can play movies on my TV via AppleTV. The only problem is, I think I may need at least 6 TB to do this. If I go with an external unit with two HD's (2 x 3 TB or larger), can I split the iTunes library onto the 2 drives, and still have access to all of my movies all of the time? If I go for more drives in one unit (4 x 2 TB), is it also feasible? Also, would I require something like a Thunderbolt connection, or would FW800 or USB3 work okay?

  • How do I Sync my itunes music between two different computers

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step instructions for how to Sync my itunes music between two different computer.... one Mac at work and a second at home. I want to bring over all my work music onto my home Mac, some of which is the same but much of it is different.

Are you able to connect the two computers in any way? For instance is the work computer a laptop that you can bring home and network with your personal one? If the two devices are connected in some away there are a few utilities that can help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:
    TuneRanger
    SuperSync
    syncOtunes

  • How can I share my iTunes library between user accounts in iTunes 11

Since upgrading my iTunes library to Version 11 I can no longer share the library between user accounts on the same Mac.
The 2nd user is asked to create oir use an iTunes library, but when it is pointed to the Media folder it cannot share it.
Previously in iTunes 10 it all worked fine.
How can this be done please?
The library is in a shared areas that we both have Read/Write permissions to.

  • Can I split my iTunes library across two hard drives?

I am busy ripping my huge movie collection into an iTunes library, so I can play through my new Apple TV to my HDTV. Trouble is, it looks like I'll probably need at least 4TB's of HD space before I'm all finished. What I would like to do is to buy an external HD unit with two 3TB drives, and split my iTunes library across them, while still being able to view all of the movies on both drives all of the time, and give me lots of extra room for future expansion.
Is this possible? If not, does anyone know of an aftermarket Thunderbolt 4TB external HD? I found a 4TB drive, but not with Thunderbolt.
    Thanks.

    I have the same question.
I would like to be able to do the same thing with all my media. I'm a DJ and certain aspects of Mac Os X Lion or iCloud, and iTunes Match, don't favor folks with tons of media, storage wise. I'm not happy that there's a limit on how much space iCloud will give you. Yet, I feel forced to upgrade to Lion within the next 4 days. I've been hesitant to rip my collection or even upload all those digital copies because where will I put all those files. I agree with needing like 4-8T just to store, but how? I don't have Thunderbolt, only Firewire on late '08 iMac 20" and USB on 08 MacBook 13" Aluminum. Bleh!
If you can use Time Capsule to back up your entire network with more than one computer, it would seem likely that you should be able to piggy back 2 xTime Capsules. I believe they come with 2-3Ts now and you can get them refurbished? I'm gonna look at Time Capsule Support to find out for myself, I'll let you know what I find, also. One thing I did noticed was that I had uploaded a bunch of Digital Copies from movies I had bought from Blu-Ray Combo Packs like 2 years ago and deleted them from MacBook for more space, only to recently find that they had been saved as purchased items from the iTunes Store. So now I can grab them from iTunes and watch them anytime off my Apple TV.
    Good Luck,

  • Can I share one iTunes Library between 2 different Windows Users?

I'm having syncing issues (discussed in a different post) with using my 2nd Gen Shuffle and 30G iPod video from the same instance of iTunes. Previously I tried creating a 2nd user on my Windows PC and using my Shuffle with another instance of iTunes loaded by the 2nd user. This worked fine, but I would like to avoid the necessity to rip my CDs to both user's iTunes instances.
Can I rip my CDs to only one of the iTunes instances and share this iTunes Library between both instances of iTunes?
    Thanks for any assistance......

  • Can I split my iTunes library between 2 hard drives?

Can iTunes library be split between to hard drives?
    Hi,
My laptop has 2 x 250GB internal hard drives. I wish there was 1 x 500 GB one.
1 of them is nearly full with music only 2GB remaining and the other one has over 100GB remaining.
I'm wondering is it possible to split the location of the library between the 2 drives without too much trouble or is it messy or even possible?!
In other words when I open iTunes the music that is on the nearly full hard drive will remain there and any music I import going forward will be re-directed to the other hard drive but still appear in iTunes along with the music from the other drive.
    Thanks...

  • How can i access my itunes library in a different computer?

I have my itunes library in my laptop at home and sometimes during my spare time in the office I want to access my library or download more songs to my library. How can I do that?

your personal library is not saved to the internet, but your itunes account is, so you can download songs on different computers through your accound
also, if you want all of your itunes library on both comps, then just copy them using some kind of connection.
    And ipod works best

  • How can I share my itunes libraries between two users on different log ins on the same PC?

Ive recently bought my wife and iPhone 4, and we have a shared library. But she clearly downloads her own apps and music choices direct from the store to her phone, so wants to maintain her own log in etc. How can I share the library in my iTunes on my log in on the same PC to her iTunes on her log I'm on the same PC. its windows Xp machine with latest itunes version.
Ive followed the online instructions for sharing thus far, and the share library does not appear in either iTunes. ie It aint working!
    Thanks in advance

When you say you have a shared library... you mean you have a networked external hard drive that you are sharing?
In iTunes, generally...when the term Shared Library is used, it's speaking to sharing a specific computer's library over the network with different computer.
I would think it would be better to do what ya'll have been doing (one log in acct/one computer) and have her create her own Apple acct and each of you log in and out whenever purchasing music apps etc. and then setup individual playlists and pick specific playlists to sync with each individual iPhone.
If you don't want each other to know what you're buying then...disregard what I just said

  • How to share subset of iTunes library between two computers

I've searched the forum for this information, and I've seen similar questions, but not exactly what I'm looking for.
    Here's the scenario:
My wife and I both access iTunes from different computers (I use a Mac, she uses Windows), using different iTunes accounts. We both sync our iPhones, iPods, iPads with these computers. The music library consists almost entirely of music that I ripped from CDs, we rarely purchase music from iTunes.
For my Mac, the entire iTunes library currently is located on an external NAS drive. My wife's iTunes library is on her Windows machine, so she doesn't have access to the music from her iTunes installation. For now, we sync both my wife's iPod and mine from the Mac.
What I would like to do is keep separate iTunes libraries for my wife and I, so that we could each have our own apps, but have both libraries point to the external NAS drive for music and playlists, so we could both sync music and playlists to our devices from the same source. We can avoid updating music or playlists for both computers at the same time.
Can a local iTunes library be configured to store music, playlists, and associated metadata on an external drive, but everything else on the local drive? From some of the other responses I've seen, having the music files on the external drive didn't appear to be an issue, but it wasn't clear if the playlists and metadata would be kept with the music files or in the local library.

From Using iPad or iPod with multiple computers, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
"iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices."

  • Can I have my iTunes Library on two different computers? One pc and one mac

I have my iTunes library on my office pc. I just bought a MacBook Air and want to have my library on there as well. I have an iphone that I have synced to both, but it will only let me keep my songs on my work pc. Is there a way I can have it on both?
    Thank you.

If it is only the media files that are on the external drive, with the library files in the default location of User's Music\iTunes then see Make a split library portable.

  • How can I share my iTunes library with 2 iTunes accounts?

How can I share my iTunes library between me and my wife?
I do not want to set-up 2 seperate accounts on my mac. Do not want to do home sharing or anything like this.
I just would like to connect my iPad to ONE itunes library and at the same time connect my wifes iPad to the SAME itunes library. Can this be done? How? Thanks! Maybe the answer is something really easy like "just connect both to the computer and sync them".
    Thanks!

Plug them in and use them.
That is all you need to do.
In the answer from Apple I do not find anything about how the 2 exisiting iTunes accounts will be handled.
    They will be handled fine.
All purchases from both iTunes accounts can be sync'd to both/either iPads with no problem.
I have three iTunes accounts (me and two daughters), 3 iPhones, an iPad and a few iPods.
Any/all content can be sync'd to any device, no problems.
