  • How to view SQL for a materialized view in SQL Developer (Oracle 11g R2)

    Good Morning,
I am new to SQL Developer 3.1.07 and just installed it on a Windows 7 PC yesterday.
There's a materialized view for which I need to view (and eventually update) the SQL. The mat'lized view is in another schema, but my Oracle user does have access to the schema and to this particular mat'lized view. My user also has SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, DEBUG, and ALTER permissions. When I select (click on) the matl'ized view in the object tree on the left, a multi-tab window opens with information in the Columns, Indexes, Grants, Dependencies and Details tabs, but the SQL pane is blank. I don't know if there's some other GRANT that I need in Oracle, or if there's something else I need to do in SQL Developer to see the matl'ized view SQL.
    Thanks

I'm not sure what privileges you might need besides the one you listed except RESOURCE on the MV, or maybe CREATE ANY MATERIALIZED VIEW.
Can you use DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL to get the data you want (may/may not work due to privileges)?

  • Sql developer / oracle 8.1.7

When I use sql developer to connect to a oracle 8.1.7 database I got the error message: "database Version 9.x and above are supported". When I press OK I can log into the database and e.g. view the tables. Does anybody know what the problems are connecting to an older database with sql developer?

The 11g thin driver included with sqldev doesn't allow 8i connections, so the first computer obviously has an older thick client installed.
First off, make sure you also have an old Oracle client (the same if possible) installed on the 2nd computer and the ORACLE_HOME environment variable is pointing to it.
    Hope that helps,
    K.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - MAC Version 2.0.0 Build 570 - Issues

    In no particular order
    - The Help, About box displays a different version information set then the SQL Developer Data Modeler, About SQl Developer Data Modeler.
    - Not able to move any portion of the connection between entities. Thus there is no current way to align the lines as wanted.
    - There is no way to scroll all the way to the right side if you have more then approximately 5 entities horizontally.
    - Open SQl Developer data Modeler, Click on File, Open, select an XML file and a dialog box is displayed.
    - The checkbox needs to be moved to the right as it is partially cut off.
    - the text next to the checkbox is cutoff and only displays "Don't show this dialog agai".
    - Printing Diagrams does not print correctly unless you have the entities displayed such that you can "read" them. If you have diminished the display so that you are not able to see the table or
field names then the Print Diagrams does not display the entity or field names.
    - File, Recent Designs, does not retain the last or any design having been opened and/or saved.
    - VarChar2 is not a displayed data type for Oracle 10G.
    - There does not appear to be a way to create a set of fields which you would like to have added quickly and easily to selected tables.
    - DDL Editor displays the Macintosh HD. It should display my User Directory

  • SQL Developer, Oracle 8i

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my Oracle 8i database with SQLDeveloper (2.1.1.64). When I tries to connect with database it returns me error "Unsupported Oracle database version.
What should I do to resolve this error?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Next versions (tested with 3.2 64-bit) of SQL developer could be "hacked" to connect to 8.1.7 by simply copy file C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip from Oracle client(version 10)
    into appropriate jdk\jre\lib\ext folder.

  • How does SQL Developer run EXPLAIN PLAN?

    Hello,
I noticed that SQL Developer can do an EXPLAIN PLAN even though I don't have a PLAN_TABLE available for the user that I use to connect in SQL Developer.
I was always wondering whether there was a way to do an EXPLAIN PLAN without a PLAN_TABLE, apparently this seems to be possible.
    Thomas

If I try an explain plan when I do not have a plan table available, I get the message "A PLAN_TABLE is required to access the explain plan, but it does not exist. Do you want to create a PLAN_TABLE?". Unfortunately, as that user does not have create table privs, if I say Yes I get the following error "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges".
Given this, if you are doing an explain plan, you either have access to a plan table or you have create table privs and SQL Developer has created the plan table for you.

  • How to get the Column names of output that is displaying in Sql Developer(Oracle 11g).

    Hi,
I am using OCCI to interact with DB through code, which means I am writing a vc++ file to interact with Data Base and execute the Stored Procedure which I am calling from the C++ Code. And  also displaying the output of the Stored Procedures to the Front End. I am succeeded in this, but now I should be able to display  the Column names of the output to Front End. Can any one help me on this.
    Example:
    Sno  |   Sname
    ------- |-------------
    1          ABC
    2          DEF
I am getting (1,ABC) and (2,DEF) as the output of the Stored Procedure but I need the Column names also to display. How to get them.
    Thanks in Advance..:)

Look at Re: exporting csv via pl/sql - select statement?
It has an example how to extract the column name from a cursor. You have to check, whether you can use DBMS_SQL.DESCRIBE_COLUMNS
Your procedure might need another out parameter, that returns the column names , e.g. as comma separated list or as varray.

  • How can  I develop iOS and mac apps without a mac?

This is more of a suggustion to apple rather than a forum question. I am a novice developer and want to develop mac an ios apps. I am looking for a way to do this without spending $1000 on a mac. because it took me 9 months to save up for a ipad. any suggestions would be good but the best would be to get an apple rep. to see this. thanks!

No Apple reps here and sending feedback will be a waste of your time, Apple is not going to go to the expense of creating a Windows version of the SDK.
You are listing a MacBook on your profile, do you not have one? If you do you can use it to develop apps. If not, look for a used or refurbished (on the online Apple Store) Intel-based Mac Mini and work on it. If you have a monitor, mouse and keyboard they will work with it.

  • SQL Developer 1.2 - (ADC) Linux - How to turn off GUI activity logs

    I have two questions:
    1. I am an internal Oracle engineer, trying to configure SQL Developer
to run within ADE - to debug SYS-installed DBMS packages.
If there is already an internal cheatsheet/wiki page on how to do
this, could you please point me to it? (Since this is a public forum,
please let me know if I can send you a direct internal mail to get
    this info).
    2. I installed the latest rev (sqldeveloper-1.2.29.98-1.noarch.rpm) on my
ADC Linux box, and I get outputs (stderr I'd presume) on my launch
window - xterm/xemacs. Is there a switch to turn this off? I do not want
to use a shell redirect because I don't know if these are coming out of
stderr or stdout - and thereby miss out on some legit errors.

For 1: there is an internal site for SQL Developer (sqldeveloper.oraclecorp.com). It may provide details about internal lists etc. you can use (although I can't verify at the moment, since it appears to be down for maintenance).
For 2: These messages are debug diagnostics. They really ought to be turned off by default in SQL Developer, but it seems like they aren't for some reason. You can switch them off by adding the following line to sqldeveloper.conf:
    AddVMOption -Dide.AssertTracingDisabled=trueThanks,

  • Tnsnames.ora file does not seem to load in SQL Developer

I've really tried my best to figure this out on my own ... through the Help, this forum, and Internet in general. I apoligize in advance for having to ask this, since I'm sure this is a common issue. This particular form entry was really close:
Database Connections will not load tnsnames.ora
But, I just can seem to figure out why, or where entries from my tnsnames.ora file are loading into SQL Developer.
    - I have the TNS_ADMIN system environment variable defined to the directory where tnsnames.ora is stored - C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN.
    - I do not see a TNS tab as the forum entry above indicates anywhere in SQL Developer - This may be my problem.
It seems that this issue could be cleared up with better directions on how to import tnsnames.ora entries into SQL Developer. Is there any specific direction on how to get your tnsnames.ora file setup correctly with SQL Developer running on Windows XP - Besides the Help which mentions the setup of TNS_ADMIN, but doesn't really tell you what the expected result is, or where the entries will be, or how to verify this is working?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Using Windows XP/Vista...
After testing in our environment, it appears that SQL Developer 1.5.1 (5440) does in fact ignore the TNS_ADMIN environment variable and ONLY looks in the Oracle Home directory (network/admin). We define a central network location for our tnsnames file and have the tns_admin setup to point there instead of locally for our users.
When selecting to add a new connection (in 1.5.1, it works in previously releases... meaning 1.2.something) and selecting TNS, the drop-down remains empty. However, if I exit SQL Developer and then copy the tnsnames file to the local network/admin directory I can then re-launch SQL Developer and the drop-down is populated. Exiting SQL Developer again, deleting the local copy of tnsnames, and then launching SQL Developer yet again results in the drop-down being empty.
All other Oracle-related applications function as expected (as they have for years) using the TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
    Any suggestions/ideas?
