How conversion a string to Hex?

my string's length is 27.

You could try something like..
char[] hex = {'0','1','2',  /*etc*/ , 'E','F'};
String str;
for (int i = 0; i < str.length(); i++) {
int ch = (int)str.charAt(i);
for (int j = 4096; j > 0; j >> 4) {
System.out.print(hex[(ch >> j) && 0x0F]);
}That should (untested though..) output 108 hex digits for a 27-character string.

• How to sum space delimited hex values in a string, and do other stuff?

Hello
I am trying to write a Bourne shell script that takes a non-constant-length character string as input, converts each character to hexidecimal value, sums each value, takes the two's complement of the sum, logically ANDS it with FF, and if any of the resultant "nibbles" are a-f, print/save that nibble as A-F, for later display as a two-character-long character string
For example, assume a variable (as in non-constant) length variable $A
A="w04:0;2"
the road that I started down was to define
B=$( echo $A | od -An -t x1 -N"${#A}" )
# for this example, $B=77 30 34 3a 30 3b 32
It's the middle part where I need some magic. What I want to do is add the whitespace-delimited hex values of this string, for this example
C=77+30+34+3a+30+3b+32
so for this example, $C=1b2
then take two's complement of $C; for this example, $TWOS_COMP=ffff ffff ffff ffe4e
and logically AND it with FF; for this example, almost-final answer is 4e
then save final result as uppercase character string variable (for this example, variable's contents would be 4E)
Is what I'm trying to do intuitively obvious to any of you gurus out there, that could rattle off an answer? I'm okay with trashing my approach thus far and trying something totally different, within the constraint that it run inside a Bourne shell script.
Thanx in advance, if anybody can help!

I've made progress. I've converted each character of a non-constant-length string $A into a space-delimited string of hex values, added them up, and retained the least significant byte (i.e., the 8 least significant bits). Here's how:
B=$( echo $A | od -An -t x1 -N"${#A}" )
D=0
for C in $B; do
C=0x$C
D=$(($D + $C))
done
D=$(($D & 16#FF))
D=`echo "ibase=10;obase=16;$D" | bc`
The missing piece now is how to take the two's complement of $D. Anybody out there with any ideas on how to handle the two's complement piece inside a Bourne shell?
Thanx

You can iterate over the string and use the String to Hex VI. If you work with two bytes of the string at a time you can get a U8 array of the desired binary values. Then when you are complete you can either work with the byte array of convert it back to a string using Byte Array to String.

• Convers ascii string to hex string

I need to send a hex string such as 5051525354A5A6A7A8A9 to a DSP across a serial port. The string is read in from a file.
When I send this string to the DSP, it does not recognize the correct hex values.
If I enter the hex value, 5051525354A5A6A7A8A9, in to a string control that is set to hex display and then change the control to normal display, I get PQRST¥¦§¨©. When I send this string, PQRST¥¦§¨©, to the DSP, it recognizes the correct hex values.
How can I change the hex string read from the text file to this type of ASCII character conversion? I've used type cast and the other functions available in LabVIEW with no success.
This is only one of many strings I need to send so I don't want to hard code PQRST¥¦§¨© or some such string for each message.

Here's a slightly simpler way.

I think your VI works and if I understand what your input data looks like and the output that you want is, does it?I really can't see a better way. Does it not work for what you want? What form is the actual data in as you receive it? (not how it is displayed by the display setting of the string control) You have the string control set the “Hex display” and that may be confusing some of us as to what the actual input data is.
And what you want your output to look like. Do you get a “stream” of bytes that are the actual numbers in the form of a string?or Do you get a “string” of ASCII char that represent numbers?
These are two different things, but may look alike depending on the display setting of your controls are set.
Changing the display mode of a control or indicator does not change the under lying data. It only changes the way your eye “see” it, not how LabVIEW “sees” it. We need to know what your raw input string looks like.
tbob's snipit assume your data is one way and your VI assumes another.

• Conversion of string into XML object

Hi
I am having some problems with conversion of string (containing XML data) into Flex XML object and binding it later to UI elements to output/maintain this data.
Binding of XML structure to UI elements works perfectly fine if I will do following:
1) Hardcode XML object within Flex file
2) Read xml file from repository (xml file inside the Flex project)
3) Use HTTP request to retrieve XML data
Unfortunately none of the above scenarios suits my solution.
I am developing a prototype application for processing Flex forms inside SAP system. I have decided to make data bindings using XML structure stored in Data Base. When rendering form inside web browser based application I am retrieving corresponding XML schema (empty for new forms and populated for saved forms) and pass it to Flex form as a string type import parameter. Data is being passed correctly (I can display it on TextArea control for instance) but after conversion to XML and binding to DataGrid I am not getting any results.
I am converting string (containing XML) to XML object in following way:
Private var xml_obj:XML = new XML(string_xml );
I am catching any potential errors but conversion is going well. After conversion I am not getting any results after binding it to DataGrid control and I am not able to access any of the nodes using AS code either. At the same time variable xml_obj is not empty (not null).
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards
Michael

David
First of all sorry for not stating it clearly but I am using Flex 3 for this development (at the moment it is the only choice when embedding Flex objects inside SAP applications).
You must have missed the bit where I am describing how this XML data finds its way inside Flex. I am passing it to Flex as String type parameter during rendering (directly from DB where it is stored).
Now, following code works perfect (XML is embedded inside Flex project):
<mx:XML id="form_data" source="../assets/example_xml_data.xml"/>
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.collections.XMLListCollection;
import mx.controls.Alert;
[Bindable]
public var XML_list:XMLListCollection;
private function setParameters():void
XML_list = new XMLListCollection(form_data.*);
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:DataGrid id="myDataGrid" dataProvider="{XML_list}">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="COMMON" headerText="Popular name"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="BOTANICAL" headerText="Botanical name"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="ZONE" headerText="Zone"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="LIGHT" headerText="Light"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="PRICE" headerText="Price"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn dataField="AVAILABILITY" headerText="Availability"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
But following code does not work (XML passed to Flex form as String input parameter):
import sap.FlashIsland;
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.collections.XMLListCollection;
[Bindable]
public var xml_data:String;
private var form_data:XML;
[Bindable]
private var XML_list:XMLListCollection;
private function initApp():void
FlashIsland.register(this);
private function setParameters():void
try
form_data=new XML(xml_data);
catch (error:Error)
Alert.show(error.toString());
XML_list = new XMLListCollection(form_data.*);
XML string does find its way inside Flex form. I can display content of variable xml_data in TextArea and all looks fine. Conversion to XML (variable form_data) goes well (no error)
Please helpJ

• Essbase 9.3 Calc scripts. Pb with dates. How to convert (string = number) ?

Hello,
I've a problem with Essbase(Planning?) Scripts on version 9.3. It looks simple but I do not find any (clean) solution :
On my Essbase database, I have a member called "Reference_Date" on my axis Indicators. It is a date data type, that is to say, it displays a number corresponding to a YYYYMMDD format. For example : 20091029 for October 29th 2009.
In calc scripts I often need to compare the month included in that "Reference_Date" with the current Member of my Time Axis (I have 12 Months members based on the format M02 for February for example). The final aim is to calculate a number of complete years since that "Reference_Date".
But theses two elements are not of the same "type" (one is a number value and the other is a "member" in Time Axis). So I'm forced to convert one of this two elements in order to compare it.
For example I can extract the month value of the "Reference_Date"' and put an "M" before it to have a Time member equivalent or I can convert the member Name M10 to a number (10))
in both cases I have the same type problem : I don't know how to convert a string into a number nor how to convert a number into a string.
(For example @CONCATENATE doesn't work with numbers). and that my only remaining problem.
I didn't find any Essbase Function which do this (conversion number <=>string).
Is anyone have an Idea ?
Thanks for your help
Best regards

I don't know any way for you to compare your data against your metadata. Not directly. To me it makes little enough sense to try that I'm not surprised the developers didn't provide for it.
I've converted member names to strings, manipulated the strings (calc script functions are not good at this), and turned them back into member names, but that's really the only use I've had for string manipulation. I don't think an equivalency operator even exists for string data. And I see no way to begin thinking of a member name, once converted to a string, as a number.
It makes even less sense to me to try thinking of a data value as a string. Even text values in Sys 11 are stored as numbers. Not encoded characters, but just a number to look up somewhere.
I think you can do what you want though, with something like this...
IF (@ISMBR("FY08"))
vYr = 2008;
ELSEIF (@ISMBR("FY09"))
vYr = 2009;
ENDIF;
IF (@ISMBR("M01"))
vMth = 1;
ELSEIF (@ISMBR("M02"))
vMth = = 2;
ENDIF;
"Years_Since_Reference" = ((vYr * 100) + Mth) - ("Reference_Date" / 12);
Obviously, the math will need some work, coz that doesn't actually work, but the logic above essentially turns your metadata into numbers, which is what you are after.
Good luck,

How to export string in CDATA with the jaxb xml writer?
It read CDATA no problem but it is lost on write.

Found it:
### THIS WORKS WITH SUN JAXB REFERENCE IMPLEMENTATION. ###
(Not tested with any other)
In the xsd, you must create a type for your string-like element.
Then associate a data type converter class to this new type, which will produce CDATA tags.
Then you must set a custom characterEscapeHandler to avoid the default xml escaping in order to preserve the previously produced CDATA tag.

I get the following Error:
"oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: Conversion to String failed"
Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue? Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Okay, it looks like the problem has something to do with the TIMESTAMP data type in tables.
oracle.xml.sql.query.OracleXMLQuery can't seem to handle tables with the TIMESTAMP data type.
this code ran fine on my machine :
import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
import oracle.xml.sql.query.OracleXMLQuery;
import java.lang.*;
import java.sql.*;
public class testXMLSQL {
public static void main(String[] args) {
try {
// Create the connection
System.out.println("before getConnection ");
Connection conn = getConnection("scott","tiger");
System.out.println("after getConnection ");
// Create the query class
OracleXMLQuery qry = new OracleXMLQuery(conn, "SELECT * FROM EMP");
System.out.println("after OracleXMLQuery object created ");
// Get the XML string
String str = qry.getXMLString();
// Print the XML output
System.out.println("The XML output is:\n"+str);
// Always close the query to get rid of any resources..
qry.close();
} catch(SQLException e) {
System.out.println(e.toString());
// Get the connection given the user name and password.!
private static Connection getConnection(String username,
String password)
throws SQLException
// register the JDBC driver..
DriverManager.registerDriver(new
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
// Create the connection using the OCI8 driver
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection(
"jdbc:oracle:thin:@<server_name>:1521:<sid>",
username,password);
return conn;
Then I created another table :
create table emp_test as select * from emp;
added a timestamp to it :
alter table emp_test add (time timestamp(6));
and filled it with timestamp information :
update emp_test set time = timestamp'2005-09-22 09:26:50.124';
ran the same code but changed the SQL to :
"SELECT * FROM EMP_TEST"
and got the error message :
The XML output is:
<?xml version = '1.0'?>
<ERROR>oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: Conversion to String failed</ERROR>
looks like bug in OracleXMLQuery object??

• How to get string value from xml in JSF??

In JSF How to get string value from xml, .ini and properties file. I want to get string value from xml or text to JSF

Just use the appropriate API's for that. There are enough API's out which can read/parse/write XML, ini and properties files. E.g. JAXP or DOM4J for xml files, INI4J for ini files and Sun's own java.util.Properties for propertiesfiles.
JSF supports properties files as message bundle and resource bundle so that you can use them for error messages and/or localization.

• How to convert string to an integer in SQL Server 2008

Hi All,
How to convert string to an integer in sql server,
Input : string str="1,2,3,5"
Output would be : 1,2,3,5
Thanks in advance.
Regards,

No, you cannot convert to INT and get 1,2,3 BUT you can get
1
2
3
Is it ok?
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[SplitString]
@str VARCHAR(MAX)

• Non ASCII String to Hex

Hi,
I am writing an algorithm that first encrypts a String, and then converts that String to Hex String. I can successfully parse Hex Strings into Ascii Strings and vice versa, but when I encrypt I cannot do this anymore. Is there a way to convert a non-ascii character to Hexadecimal and vice versa?
Thanks in advance

Maybe so....
The encrypted value when printed does not format on my screen, and appears as boxes and such.
The values that I am passing in are a very simple encryption....XOR against a key. Here is that algorithm.
public byte[] encrypt(byte[] value) {
byte[] encrypted = new byte[value.length];
byte[] adjustedKey = getKey();
while (adjustedKey.length < encrypted.length) {
String temp = new String(adjustedKey) + new String(key);
adjustedKey = temp.getBytes();
for (int i = 0; i < value.length; i++) {
encrypted[i] = (byte)(adjustedKey[i] ^ value);
return encrypted;
Since this is an XOR, I can use the same method to decrypt as well. This is what produces my non-Ascii characters.
Is there a way for me to get the byte value of a 1 digit hex value then? this may help some.
