How do I a recover and view old deleted internet history. places.sqlite file only goes back a month and I want to go back a year.

Ok... 100% honesty instead of making some story up; my boyfriend had an affair; mostly online. When I caught wind of this he mass cleared the whole internet history. This was at the end of august.
I have found the places.sqlite file using the manager add-on. BUT the old history is not there. There is history there from the last month and it shows me pages that were individually deleted but none of the old history is there. I want to go as far back as March 2013 if I can. My bf knows I am doing this and said he would give me any password I may need to do so.
I feel like Iv been living a lie for months and I want some piece of mind.
I need to make a big decision right now and seeing this history will help me.
Pleas tell me there is a way too do this?!?!?! I'm hanging by a thread here.

You can try to use recuva, but is unlikely to work, due to the large size of the places.sqlite file.
* http://www.piriform.com/recuva
* The green button is the free download.
Though your boyfriend may had been using private browsing too.
* [[Private Browsing - Browse the web without saving information about the sites you visit]]
In the future, you can catch him with a history tracking like program, or parental controls.

  • A cleaning utility deleted my browsing history! My fault! I want to re-open the old pages and tabs. The info may be in an old "sessionstore.js" or "places.sqlite" file but these are huge and some URLS are written backwards. Where do I start please?

I have copied "places.sqlite" and given it a .txt extension, then opened in Wordpad - but it's huge - I don't know what order it's in and many of the URLS are written backwards - like "moc.smooretal.www" instead of "www.laterooms.com."
Similarly there are several numbered versions of sessionstore.js in the profile and these can be opened with a text editor too. But if I simply substitute the current sessionstore.js file with an older (numbered) one in the profile, Firefox seems to ignore it.
    So:
    1. Is there a method of re-installing the "history" sites list or "previously opened pages and tabs" from the 'places.sqlite' file, or from a previous sessionstore.js file (and if so how do I go about it ?)
    2. If not, is there an alternative source of browsing history back-up which I can use or
    3. If not that either, is there at least a way of reversing the backwards text so I can read the URLs and copy/paste them?
    All knowledgeable help much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

Firefox has other backups it makes automatically, unfortunately your cleaning utility may have wiped them.

    ## easiest method of finding it is <br> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile [Open containing folder] <br/>The places.sqlite is a database that contains all your bookmarks and history, if this exists and is not corrupt then your bookmarks library should work and allow you to create backups.
    ##*see [[backing up your information]]
    ## put it somewhere safe your Windows desktop will do
.JSON files are the backup files, either created manually or by firefox
sessionstore.js files probably are of little use to you, containing only the tabs & windows from recent close downs, not the full history and bookarks.
Now that any existing files are safe try to see if any backups exist that firefox created automatically
    * these would be in a folder within the profile
    * they can most easily be used by opening the bookmarks library, as explained in the article linked above.

  • After upgrading to Firefox 3.6.11, the browser does not see my previous browsing history, and does not save new history. places.sqlite is still in place. Is there a way to fix this without erasing previous history?

Bookmarks are still being updated and saved. Recently closed tabs, Recently closed windows are being recorded as they should. I have a single .json file on my profile directory, search.json. I don't know if there should be another one for the browsing history. It looks like some index file for the history database was lost or corrupted, or re-created as an empty file. places.sqlite-journal has zero bytes; places.sqlite-stmtjrnl has 37 kbytes, date 2008-07-15.

I kept trying to solve this problem, and after a few unsuccessful attempts, the only thing which worked was uninstalling Firefox (keeping all my customizations) and then reinstalling Firefox 3.6.10 (which is apparently no longer available at mozilla.org, but which I could easily find at filehippo.com). The unsuccessful attempts I made were: (1) Install Firefox 4 beta; (2) uninstall Firefox 4 beta, Firefox 3.6.11 (in both uninstalls, keeping my customizations), and reinstall Firefox 3.6.11.
So right now I am stuck at Firefox 3.6.10, or I will loose access to my browsing history. If anyone at Mozilla.org is reading this, I would suggest taking a look at this issue to see if it can be reproduced and fixed. I am running Windows XP (fully updated), Brazilian Portuguese version.

  • How to set my favorite tv chanels and view schedule on internet?

How to set my favorite tv chanels and view schedule on internet?

That's a good question - I've been trying since fios came out with fios tv central to view the tv guide online. It keeps saying "invalid user name/password". I've changed them numerous times, contacted online help, talked to phone help (who's also baffled), all to no avail. I actually saw the guide once when I first visited the site, so it exists. Please let me know if you figure out how to get on there because setting the favorites has to be a breeze compared to that.

  • How can I make sure my history doesn't expire and that I can transfer over places.sqlite?

There's probably alot of questions on this subject asked already but I've gone over just about all of the possibly relevant ones that've been already asked and I still can't figure out what to do. I'm trying to move my complete history from an XP Firefox profile over to a Windows 7 profile on another computer. Do I just do it by copying the places.sqlite file within that XP profile over into my USB flash drive, then replacing the places.sqlite in the Winodws 7 profile with the one from the other one? And after the file's in the right profile will I be able to just view all the sites I viewed on the old computer on the new one's history dialog box? I only am transferring my XP history to my Windows 7 because I want to look at stuff several months back and it keeps expiring on me, even to the point of getting rid of a month of history a week or so ago. This brings me to my other point, I keep up fairly well with updating both of my Firefoxes but recently (and I think this was way, way after they updated the browser so the history isn't set to expire by days anymore) the history just isn't reliable anymore. My XP will not only expire older months of history faster and faster it seems, but individual websites at the end of each month will actually disappear as I view new ones, instead of it all staying in there and just expiring each old month as a whole. Also, random sites in every month scattered all over the list of URLs will just disappear, and random sites that I've only visited in the past couple days will insert themselves randomly into much older months of history, which makes it hard to figure out the URLs I've seen, this last one seems like a common problem from what I've read, and all of these problems seem to be slowly creeping into my Windows 7 as well when they were originally on only my XP. The thing is for a very long time my Windows 7 would keep every ounce of my history that I kept on it, unless of course I went through the Clear History process myself. Now it seems to be slowly deleting it and having all the other problems that I mentioned earlier. I've got 592 GB out of 931 GB that's free space on my Windows 7 that I want to transfer my XP history into, and my Control Panel System panel says I've got 8 gbs of RAM in total. If I need to get some other information on RAM mention how to do that if you could. So in total, how can I transfer my XP history over into my Windows 7 so I can view all the sites I viewed on my XP in my Windows 7 history panel, as well as view all the old expired and/or manually deleted history on my Windows 7, without worrying about whether it will expire itself while I'm viewing it and writing down the relevant URLs that I need to know about. If I can only keep all my history through installing an add-on, a link to a relevant legal add-on that'll work well on both operating systems would be appreciated. Thanks to all here. (:

    Hello Saethwyr99,
''Do I just do it by copying the places.sqlite file within that XP profile over into my USB flash drive, then replacing the places.sqlite in the Winodws 7 profile with the one from the other one?''
you are correct : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile#w_your-important-data-and-their-files Your important data and their files]

from Firefox 4 and above versions there is not a time limit for the history.
Firefox determines automatically how many pages can be kept '''without affecting the performance.'''
''as well as view all the old expired and/or manually deleted history on my Windows 7''
i think this in not possible

check the next add-on : [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/expire-history-by-days/ Expire history by days]

  • I have a clickfree backup drive and don't know how to restore my previous bookmarks? I tried to copy the places.sqlite file from the backup drive to my compute

I have a clickfree backup drive and my computer crashed. I restored it to factory settings and reinstalled Firefox but cannot figure out how to get my old bookmarks back. I tried to replace the new places.sqlite file with the one I had on my backup drive but still got nothing? I tried to use the restore option but it won't take the old places.sqlite file. Is there anyway to get my old bookmarks? I'm really not a techy person.....
    Thanks

    Bookmark Backups
Type '''about:support''' in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see '''Application Basics.'''
Under this find '''Profile Folder.''' To it’s right press the button
'''Show Folder.''' This will open your file browser to the current
    Firefox profile. Now '''Close Firefox.'''
Enter the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. This is where Firefox makes backups
of your bookmarks. Look for the '''jsonlz4''' file you want to restore
(check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select '''Copy.'''
Now go back to the profile folder where you started. Rename the file
'''places.sqlite''' by adding '''.old''' to it. Now right click in the folder
and select '''Paste.''' The file you just pasted here, rename it to
'''places.sqlite.''' After you are done, restart Firefox.
Edited to correct file name error.

  • How do I install my old places.sqlite file to get my old bookmarks?

    Bought a new computer.
Trying to bring in my old bookmarks, so on the old machine, I saved the file: places.sqlite. Trying to install it from a jump drive on the new machine.
I tried the restore feature, but that only restores what you save on the new machine. I tried to import as HTML, but it said the .sqlite file was not supported. I can't figure out how to copy and paste the file directly into the folder where the current places.sqlite exists because the AppData folder is hidden (separate issue I guess, but I don't know how to unhide that data folder.)
So I can't get to the right folder to do a normal cut and paste. Any help appreciated.
Just out of curiosity, I searched the web and didn't find anything to answer my question, even in this forum. Surely, this is a really common issue and I'm just asking it wrong, yes? Is this a backup from previous versions issue? I'm curious why I didn't find any info on this. How far off am I in what I'm trying to do? LOL.

You need to copy the places.sqlite file into your current profile folder.
To open the profile folder, in the help menu select "Troubleshooting Information", then click the "Open Containing Folder" button. This will open the profile folder in windows explorer. You can then close Firefox and copy places.,sqlite into that folder.

  • Viewing and Deleting internet history on Router (

    Hi,
This is my first post on this website.
I would like information on how to view and delete internet history on a router. I have a linksys router (Default SSID is AFAQ wireless) and I would like to view the internet history. Mainly what internet sites have been visited on my router. I am able to get onto the http://192.168.1.1/ webpage but can't see any options for viewing and deleting visited websites/pages.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Which router are you using?
In most Linksys routers, you must enable "logging" to get the router to record the web sites you visited.  Even when you do this, generally only the IP address is recorded, not the name of the website.
Logging in Linksys routers is primarily designed for diagnostic purposes.  If you leave logging turned on full time, it will slow down your router when the router memory becomes full.  Therefore, in general, you should turn off logging.
Windows keeps a good record of the web sites you have visited.  Look in "History" for this info.

  • Places.sqlite file gets screwed up when youtube freezes. How to fix it?

    == Issue

    == Description

Sometimes when I watch a long youtube video (30min+) and it freezes then I try to restart it in the middle, firefox freezes. I restart firefox, but it loses all my bookmarks and backed up bookmarks. Also, the back/forward buttons stop working. This is due to something about the places.sqlite file. (From what I can see with a quick Google search.) This has happened twice.
Starting in Firefox 3, bookmarks and browsing history are stored in the places.sqlite file, located in the Firefox profile folder. If the Places database is locked or damaged, many Firefox functions will not work and the following symptoms may occur:
    * Firefox opens to a blank page instead of the home page
    * Toolbar buttons such as Back/Forward are disabled
    * Bookmarks and history are missing
    * URL is not updated in the Location Bar as you browse
    * Bookmarking a page has no effect
    * Unable to delete, move, or edit certain bookmarks

Have you tried restarting to your Recovery HD by pressing/holding Command+R? If that doesn't work and if your Mac is able to use Internet Recovery, try restaring and pressing/holding Command+Option+R which will boot into Apple's servers Recovery HD.
Either of the two restarts into the Recovery HD will allow you to use Disk Utility and try a Verify/Repair of your hard drive OR reinstall your OS X.

  • Trying to restore bookmarks and get error msg windows can't open places.sqlite file. also get same message when trying to open json files for prev sessions.

Ibelieve remote user deleted cache and now I have no bookmarks. I have tried to reset firefox and was unable to do so. I tried to restore bookmarks through the places sqlite file and windows cannot open the file. I went to old firefox file on desktop and tried to open a previous version of bookmarks and windows could not open file. I still have bookmark toolbar and a lot of my categories bookmarks but they are all empty. My plugins are still there Can you tell me where to direct windows to open sqlite of json files?

To experiment more safely, could you create a new Firefox profile? The new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder. If we get your bookmarks into the new profile successfully, you can create a backup and restore it in your regular profile.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Please do not delete anything in this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, choose a name like TESTING, and skip the option to choose a folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
If you have backups in the JSON format (e.g., bookmarks-2014...json) try to restore one to this TESTING profile. This article has the steps (you will need to use Choose File... to get to the backup):
[[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
Does that work and give you complete results?
If not, the next thing I would try is to drop in the places.sqlite file you have and see whether Firefox can read it properly.
First, open up a Windows Explorer window to this new profile folder. You can do that using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Got the list of files? Okay, leaving that window open, switch back over to Firefox and Exit the browser, using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup -- you will see the timestamps update in the profile folder, then rename '''places.sqlite''' to something like places.old and drop in the places.sqlite file you want to test.
Start Firefox back up again. Bookmarks?

Like I could in firefox 3, in about:config, set firefox to store(and therefore never delete) history entries. up to 900k entries.

Yes, use Firefox Portable for that website. <br />

I doubt is this is an issue with the Fast Release schedule, more like an issue with a website that is incorrectly screening the user agent of the browsers being used, or with a website that hasn't been updated for a browser that was released over three months ago.

Hi, the last install dvd that came out for mac's was Snow Leopard,10.6.3. Lion is a download from apple. You cannot just install it over Yosemite. You would have to backup your drive to save files you want and do a clean install. You might want to look into getting more memory. You can run 8 Gig"s of memory on your Macbook Pro.If your Macbook Pro is getting really slow you might want to download EtreCheck  and then post the results here.http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck  Check out this article.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19031
