How do I add text boxes that people can edit font type, size, and color in Adobe Reader? I am using Acrobat Pro XI.

It is possible. Add your text fields and in their Properties set them to have Rich Text Contents (under Options). This will allow the users to specify all kinds of formatting settings for those fields (by pressing Ctrl+E and using the Properties bar).

I need to create a PDF from InDesign that people can edit (for example, change a name from "John" to "Johnny") from either Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. I have already looked at forms, but they do not keep your font colors, faces, and sizes and just make everything that is selected as a text form Black, 12pt, Times New Roman.
Can anyone here help me?

If you use Acrobat pro, generate your .pdf file and then save it as (french version):
... so that anyone using Acrobat Reader (or Pro, of course) can modify the .pdf file (with limitations), add comments, ...
If you want to try to "protect" your .pdf file, you can try with this (in the "Préférences" menu (french version)):

...when pdf is a single-page, typewriter-enabled form? I've skimmed though a couple pdf files on Acrobat javascript trying to figure out what events I need to trigger a function and the proper syntax to use, but I'm coming up empty. I don't know if this is doc level or page level or how to get a function to trigger when the document opens or the typewriter button is clicked.
The problem is that for my Windows computer when I open the document, the default font is Courier 12pt and black. A co-worker's Mac computer (and Foxit PDF Reader) the default is Helvetica 11pt and blue. Another co-worker's Mac (with Adobe Reader) defaults to a cursive font, 11pt and blue. I really need to standardize this and particularly change the color to black.
I am at a complete loss and out of my depth on where to start and how to find the info I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Seems like going this option, we would be better served just making a web-based form. I'll pass that on to the Powers-That-Be.
2. Not to imply these folks are computer-illiterate, but the users completing the forms are plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, carpenters, etc. In fact, they get a good number of printed, hand-written, snail-mailed forms submitted. I really don't know the likelihood of getting these users to download and install Reader 11.

I want to create a text box so people can write in the document while still securing the header/footer so that no one can edit those.

I am trying to create a PDF with a letterhead. I want people to be able to use the document, but I want to secure the letterhead (header/footer) so no one can touch those.

Tools>Forms>Create. Select from existing document (if you select from blank page it takes you to Forms Central). This should put you in the forms edit mode when done. From the Add new field, select text field. That should do the job.

When viewing the applications tab of my firefox preferences, PDF file formats are not in the list of possible formatts, how do I add it so that I can open PDF file in my browser?

I am running OSX 10.5.8 currently, and have followed all of the tips and advice on the help sites (IE. uninstalling, installing pluggins, programs like adobe, and reinstalling firefox). I tried deleting and resetting the mimetypes.rdf file and the pluginreg.dat files. I have noticed that when you open the FF preferences window, and look at applications, there is no Portable Document Format file type listed. How do I fix this?

Okay, so I tried the zip thing right? and it worked and it got downloaded, but my computer says: Unable to unarchive "MyWidget'sname.zip" into "Desktop" (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.) Thats what it says. So I thought It was in the wrong format. So, then I just tried uploading it on the server (geocites) just with it's .wdgt tag and then the server said wrong file. Then I said no, your wrong! but it naturally didn't listen to me. Any ideas? Oh and by the way, it does work on mine. The icon on my widget file looks just like the other widgets. Please help!!! (I'll send you a copy..)

When you open StreamClip the File Menu has the option to Open Files. Choose this for the Quicktime file that you exported from FCE. Then choose the MP4 output with the HD specs appropriate. It should make an mp4 movie that YouTube will accept as HD.

Wondering how to create a text box with variables...

Hi everyone,
I was wondering how to create a text box, that at the beginning of the presentation, the audience fills in regarding what they think constitutes the role they have been chosen for.
I would like that same box to then appear at the end of the presentation, with the text they typed in at the beginning, so they can reflect on what they think now, and what they thought then. I understand this is done using variables, but i'm not 100% sure.
I hope I've worded this okay!

This screenshot shows the properties panel, Style tab for the TEB. I relabeled it to My_TEB, used the X button to create a user variable v_choice that will replace the generic Text_Entry_Box_1/
This is the properties panel of a Shape, I went in Edit mode (double clicking)to make the Character section appear, where you find the X button. It opens the dialog box 'Insert Variable' and you can choose the var associated with the TEB. The Maximum Length will define how many characters will be displayed, the value of a variable has maximum 256 characters.

Using javascript i am able to add some text to each page of an indesign file.
myNewText = "SOME TEXT"
myTextFrame = myPage.textFrames.item(0);
tempframe = myTextFrame.contents;
myTextFrame.contents = myNewText + tempframe ;
But i want to specify the font used,size and color for that text.
When i try the code mentioned in indesign javascript scripting guide
myNewText .appliedFont = app.fonts.item("Times New Roman");
myNewText .fontStyle = "Bold";
nothing gets changed and font family already used stays the same.
How can i do that only for the added text and not for the whole content?I dont want to add the text to a new text frame I want to append it to the existing text frame.
And is there a way to specify font size too?

There's a mixup going on here. Let's see if we can sort out some of it
at least.
If you just want to add new text to an already existing text frame,
that's easy:
myTextFrame.contents += "Hello";
But if you want the new text to have unique formatting, it's a little
more complicated.
There are two simple ways to do it, I think:
1. Create a temporary text frame, as you have done, and add the text,
and format everything in there. Then move() that formatted text to the
end of myTextFrame and delete the temporary frame:
tempFrame = app.activeDocument.textFrames.add();
tempFrame.contents = "New Text";
tempFrame.paragraphs[0].appliedFont = app.fonts.itemByName("Times New
Roman"); // etc...
tempFrame.paragraphs[0].move(myTextFrame.insertionPoints[-1],
LocationOptions.AFTER);
tempFrame.remove();
2. The other option, is to add the text directly to your textFrame. But
if you want to format only that text, you have to store where the text
started:
myTextFrame = app.selection[0];
firstInsertionPoint = myTextFrame.insertionPoints[-1].index;
myTextFrame.contents += "New Text";
myAddedText =
myTextFrame.characters.itemByRange(myTextFrame.insertionPoints[firstInsertionPoint],
myTextFrame.insertionPoints[-1]);
myAddedText.appliedFont = app.fonts.itemByName("Trajan Pro"); // etc.
What you've done in your sample script, however, is to try to apply a
font to a simple JavaScript string. It won't work, but the way you did
it, it won't throw an error either, because in fact you've created a new
property of your string. (myString = "Hello"; myString.appliedFont =
"Times"; // myString now has a Javascript property called appliedFont --
but that's nothing to do with InDesign!)

I really need to know how you create the 'cream pop-up info text boxes' that appear when you hover your mouse over an object on a webpage (and often in any program e.g. Photoshop) for more than a second. I need to know because the logo on my website is the navigation tool used to return to the homepage. It is always found in the top left so the user can always click it to return.
The only problem is im the only one who knows that when you click my logo, you return to the homepage. I need one of these 'cream info boxes' (forgive my lack of knowledge) to appear so the user will figure it out.

How can I enable spell checking for a text box that is just one line, e.g. subject in e-mail?

In a prior version of Firefox I found a website somewhere that told me what to do to enable spell checking for text boxes that are just one line. I got used to being able to send an e-mail with a Subject Line that didn't have a misspelling. Now it doesn't work. Please tell me how I can enable that again. I am on a Mac using Firefox 6.0.2. You can set the pref layout.spellcheckDefault to 2 on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
