Go to System Preferences > Date & Time. You can reset both the date and the time in that control pane.
You can also select to have the date & time set automatically - that will work as long as the machine has a connection available to the internet.
If the date/time changed after you had unplugged the machine and plugged it back in, consider replacing the internal battery. One purpose of that battery is to maintain date/time settings even when the machine is unplugged. When that battery gets used up, it can't do its job; those batteries have an expected life of only 4 to 5 years.

A larger monito is only helpful if the resolution is the same as your current monitor, and they tend to have higher resolutions as you get larger, so don't rush out an buy a larger monitor and expect miracles. If you have a 22" now and it's "HD" (1920 x 1080), you'll see some change as you go up in size, but you'd probably need at least a 27" screen at 1920 x 1080 to notice a real difference.
Right click on the desktop and choose Screen Resolution and you can see the current settings (probably the maximum value which is recommended) and other settings you can use. Lowering the resolution will make everything on the screen larger, but less stuff will fit. Used to be, too that ID did not work will at less than the maximum resolution setting for any monitor.
I did not mean to use the larger fonts feature, by the way, as far as I know that doesn't affect the ID user interface.
The point I was making, rather badly, is that those of us with declining eyesight are getting shafted because there is no way to make use of all the monitor potential and adjut the user interface to make things visible. I just bought a 30" monitor to replace my old 27" which had 1920 x 1200 resolution and was pretty usable, things were about the same size as my old sony 20" running at 1600 x 1200, but even though it is larger in terms of screen size, the new monitor is even higher resolution and things are actually smaller. The only reason I can use it with ID is I know where everything is.

Red light in the headphone output of my MacBook and no speakers.

My MacBook recently has been shining a RED light out of the input for the headphones. This is accompanied by the problem of me not being able to get sound to play out of the internal MacBook speakers...I believe the two are related. I am able to play music when I plug in headphones and hook my computer up to my TV, but when I disconnect the source I cannot hear anything coming out of the computer itself. When I try and adjut the volume with the buttons on the keyboard the volume icon appears and a little "no smoking" or "circle with a line through it diganal" appears next to the level of volume that I want to hear...Can anyone please give me some insight as to what may be the problem with my MacBook.

there's a small switch in the very back of the headphone jack. I know it doesn't sound like a good idea, but just take a tooth pick or something small and flick the tab by the light. it's somewhere around the 4 or 5 o'clock position.
the switch turns the computer's audio out from digital to analogue and seems to get stuck with some computers. mine had this problem but hasn't resurfaced since.

Erratic screen light when dark - ideas?

I don't have time to call Apple Care at the moment, so I'lve stopped by to ask if anyone else has had this problem and what have they done.
problem. when it is dark enough for the keyboard to light up, the screen sensor can't seem to hold the light at one point. in other words, as I am working on the mac, I notice the light become strong and then go dimmer. using the keyboard to adjut the light (stronger or weaker) doesn't really help. it coninutes to shuffle the intensity.
When I have normal light and no need for the keyboard glow, the screen is fine.
One thing though, when it is normal, I can't change the screen intensity. It has a lock on the controls. Odd.

i grasp that after updating your system from Windows 8 to 8.1 you are having an issue with the display going dim.
You have tried some steps you located on the web but there was no change.
Windows 8 an 8.1 are not supported Operating Systems for your notebook. This does not mean they will not work only that HP has not tested it and therefore does not supply updated drivers. You would need to check the manufacturer's site for any updated drivers.
Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers
When I checked the driver page for your notebook I did notice there is a bios update, have you done that?

SYSTEM_NO_TASK_STORAGE DDIC_ACTIVATION upgrade to EHP4 SPS5

When want to upgrade our system from SAP ERP 6.0 EHP3 SPS5 ( Windows 32 Bit with RAM 3Gb ) to EHP4 SPS5 with SAINT we encountered the following Error in DDIC Activation phase :
The following details help you to analyze the problem:
     -   Error in phase: DDIC_ACTIVATION

In ST22 we have the following message :

The short-dump issue you are experiencing is a well known problem which uses to occur on 32-bit architecture system platforms;
those short-dumps are a clear indication of a 'lack of memory (address space) issue'.
When a program (or a transaction or a job) is running, the work process
follows this memory allocation sequence (valid for Windows platforms):
   a) Roll memory up to the quota "ztta/roll_first"
   b) Extended memory up to the quota "em/address_space_MB"
   c) Roll memory up to the quota "ztta/roll_area"
   d) Heap memory up to the quota "abap/heap_area_dia"
Short dumps like these ones arise when additional memory
is required to extend the internal table, but none is available.
Check these points :
- make sure parameters values are set as indicated in Note 88416
read the document "Optimizing the Memory Settings for
    SAP Systems on 32-Bit Windows" that you will find at:

Also,
- Enable the Windows startup option /3GB, as per Note 110172
- Reduce the memory parameters rdisp/ROLL_SHM and rdisp/PG_SHM to
    6000 and check that other memory buffers like abap/buffersize have
    not been increased from default values.

Can't open a dng or raw file in cs5, just stops working. So many problems in cs5!

I totally feel for you. Just upgraded from cs4 to cs5 and it was the biggest mistake i ever made. It will probably end my livelihood as a photographer since EVERY time i open a raw file it crashes photoshop, makes it freeze up after i have adjuted the file in camera raw then I hit open; i get a few bars then it just stops working.
Even got tech help, which helped when i was on the phone with them. The next day the problem came back even when I danced the same jig that I did when I had the guy on the phone - he had me move a raw file on to the desktop rather than take open from my hard drive, then I was able to open it, so we came to the conclusion that my drive was corrupt. I had the same information backed up on a brand new hard drive so we compared files from the each drive against the other. The files from the new drive opened successfully. Yesterday. Now Photoshop cs5 doesn't open any raw or dng files at all from anywhere so it can only be a problem with photoshop. We thought we had the problem solved but we did not. This never happened on CS4 unless i was trying to open 30 or more raw files, and even then it gave me a warning that it had no more ram, it didn't just lock up and do nothing. I'm at my wit's end. Even though there are a lot of great new things in cs5, they aren't very useful if you can't use the product to do the simplest thing.

1) Install the Photoshop 12.0.1 update
2) Install the latest ACR update.
If problems continue after that, then there probably is something wrong with your system.

Printing in 2-color + upgrade problems

My company just recently upgraded systems, going from CS to CS 6, and a 10 year old mac to a new PC. Quite a leep.
The prolem is, there was a program called Creo's "PowerTone" and it was a plugin for Photoshop which took full color images and made a blended image using only 2 colors. So where the original image had dark black, the end result would be the dark red and blue on top of eachother, giving a maroon color. It would automate this process, making 3 files, which would then be used in InDesign, to print 2 plates for our press.
It appears this plugin isn't compatible with the new CS versions. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where my company should go from here? Doing each image by hand would be way too time consuming.
We could also buy a version of CS which powertone supports (I think they went to cs2) and then I could print files from CS2 but still design in CS6?

@ john : I could try but apparently the company got bought out by Kodak and they no longer support it and haven't since CS2. And the problem with photoshop's duotone capabilities is that you have to first grayscale the image, thus losing all color data. So there is no way, for example if I am colorizing a purple car, to automate that, so I would have to go in and adjuts the settings until the red and blue ink are heavy on top of the car, which would result in a purple car when printed. For the amount of ads we do, this wouldn't really be feasible.

How do I use the PXI_clk10 backplane clock? It's not there!

This might seem a trivial question, but I'm completely at a loss here. I have made an RT-project in LV8 which (among other things) samples data continuously from two cards located in a PXI-system. All 32 (16+16) differential channels are used and one task for each card is configured in MAX. Since signal phase is an issue, I need to synchronize both tasks accurately. The lv8 code examples have a couple of VIs that should have been directly applicable to my situation, and I have studied them (and lots of others) in detail.
I have attached one example below that seemed to be spot on, and it makes use of the external PXI_Clk10 clock located in the pxi backplane. Here the confusion starts. When you attach a constant to the "source" input of the "sample clock" VI you get a drop-down list of possible sources. In the example code, PXI_Clk10 is chosen in this list, but when I try to do the same I discover that this option is simply not present. Only internal timing sources (located on the cards) can be chosen. If I configure the timing of the tasks directly in MAX, the PXI_Clk10 is an available option, but this leads to a vague error message when I start the tasks saying roughly that "it might be that you did not specify a name for the external sample clock...".
I have tried everything. My PXI-settings in MAX, routing signals via PFI-pins (didn't work at all), etc etc.
What is going on? Also: when routing a signal through a pfi-port, does this necessitate connecting the pfi-connectors physically or is the signal routed internally through the backplane? It doesn't help that I use BNC-2110 connector blocks. How can I be sure that the connectors on these blocks actually correspond to the terminals on the cards? I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere on the web.
Some facts: PXI-1031 chassis with PXI-8184 controller (dual boot) and two cards PXI-6229 / PXI-6259. These cards are located in slot 3-4.

All PXI chassis produce PXI_CLK10 on the backplane (from an on-board 10 MHz oscillator), and most of them can also receive a 10 MHz clock from Slot 2 and broadcast that on the backplane. Some models can receive 10 MHz from a BNC connector on the back. Similarly, both 10 MHz and 100 MHz clocks are always available on PXI Express chassis.
Unfortunately, the 6143 and 6133 have no provision to connect to PXI_CLK10. This is likely because the master clock on those boards is 20 MHz, and there may not have been board space or room in the cost budget for a PLL to lock it to 10 MHz. Many other PXI products can use PXI_CLK10, such as the 6120. There is a list of products which use CLK10 and other PXI features here:

How to move an iTunes library from the internal hard drive to another bootable disk.

         I got two Mac OS X installations on my i Mac system. One on the internal hard drive (320 Gb), that has been there since the iMac was bought 3 years ago, upgraded to Lion on 2 August. (call that INT) . I have a USB external drive, and recently bought a firewire Lacie external drive (2Tb), so to boot from there when I can, with hard drive space getting tight this year. I successfully installed another copy of Lion on LACIE.
         Then I went to work to transfer my iTunes library, which the media files were optioned to store on the USB drive. Intending to transfer both the music and video files, and the megadata ( playlists, ratings, playcounts ) I found the media files and the iTunes library file and the .xml document in my iTunes folder from INT. I made a new folder in the USB drive, and copied the contents from the old iTunes folder to that new folder. I re-started in LACIE, and found my empty iTunes folder. I copied over to the new iTunes folder, then opened iTunes. My eyes saw the music library to the same number of items, with the playlists etc showing.
        However, I tried to sync an iPod Nano, and a window came up saying 100 songs could not be copied to the iPod because they could not be found. After ejecting the iPod I tried to play a song from iTunes, and the screen filled with exclamation points. A small window came up, asking for a password to open "sparsebundle" and my name. I entered my password for the administrator's log-in and it said try again with the password. Without knowing what password to put in, I clicked Cancel, and got another small window asking to locate the file. Then clicked Cancel again, not knowing where to search. All the media folders were showing after quitting iTunes and opening Finder .
      I re-booted into INT, and opened iTunes. The library was still there. I synced my iPod again, ejected it, played 3 songs on the iPod, synced again, ejected it again, and opened the playlist "Recently Played". It showed up okay with no problems. So my iTunes library in INT is alright.
      Has anyone got any idea how to make the transfer into LACIE and get it running alright, or what went wrong with what I did ?
      In the meantime I will empty my LACIE iTunes library folder's contents to the trash, and securily empty the trash .

Solved the issue without using the trash . I tried to consolidate the library in LACIE, then clicked on any exclamation-mark song and tried to locate the file. Repeating those steps 3 or 4 times cleared it up. That was confirmed when I synced the entire library on a iPod Classic, and showed up no problems after syncing the Nano.
     What went wrong was perhaps to fail to consolidate the library at first .

How do I change a number that was international back to UK number so it permanently recognises it as UK not international? I've tried delete, reset factory settings, change the format of the number etc and nothing seems to work. Help!

I recently moved back to the UK and bought my iphone 4 with me. It is unlocked and works on the new contract that I have set up here in the UK. The problem I'm having is that some of the UK numbers that I had already had on the iphone in Korea as international UK numbers will now not work as they are still coming up as international numbers. This means it is costing me a lot to message or call these numbers. I have tried changing the number format various ways, deleting the numbers (although it still seems to remember them), resetting the phone, restoring the phone.
How can I succesfully change these numbers?
Any UK numbers I have added since changing the contract are working fine.

Do you happen to have Dial Assist on? This is in Settings>Phone. This is what helps the phone identify international numbers when dialing, based on location. See if turning that off/on makes a difference. Unless you are making a number of international calls, I believe this can be left off. See the User Guide http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf Page 49 has info regarding Dial Assist.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

This is my first post in SDN.
I am uploading some data from application server. I am doing lot of varifications, based on that I have to display the messages.
So I asked not to use the write statements to display the messages but asked me to create an internal table and display the messages afterwards..
like I am using some BAPI to upload after the bapi call i have to log the result for each record into an internal table and show...
can anyone guide me how to do it?
