How do I assign a folder on a non-boot drive as default for certain media types?

I want the default folder for iTunes, iPhoto, Aperture, iMovie and iDVD to be on separate drives from the boot drive. Hoe do I change these individiually?
Also - what is the best way to create an automatic mirror of them onto other drives?
For example, 4HD (3 plus boot) plus external case with 5 drives, so drive number 1-9:
iPhoto drive 2 - mirror drive 5
Aperture drive 2 - mirror drive 6
iMovie/iDvd drive 4 - mirror drive 9
iTunes drive 3 - mirror drive 6

How to move/copy Home Folder to a new hard drive?

Hard drive crashed in Snow Leopard, but before it did I pulled off my home folder. I am going to reinstall Snow Leopard on a new hard drive. How do I move/copy my home folder to the new hard drive? The home folder is sitting on an external hard drive that connects via firewire 400. Do I simply recreate the user account on the computer with new hard drive and copy/move the old home folder over to overwrite the new home folder? Looking forward to any suggestions.

Normally you can move your exiting home dir to another drive without any problems. For example, see
How to Move the Home Folder in OS X – and Why
But you appear to want to take a home dir from another system and make it the home dir on another system. That may or may not work. The operations are the same, i.e., point to the new home dir via the Accounts system prefs advanced options. But if the account id's are not the same there is going to be permissions problems.
Similarly, you can have permissions problems for the same reason just copying the stuff over the newly created home dir.
If you already know the user id's are the same then I think you may just get away with the substitution.

How do I delete a folder on an external hard drive back up

I found a folder on my external hard drive from my laptop back up I want to delete. it says "this operation cannot be completed because backup items cannot be modified". I need this folder gone. I got rid of it on the laptop but I want the backup gone also. Is this possible?

I have one 120GB SSD and one 1TB SSHD, how do do I make one of them my boot drive and the other my data drive?

I'm currently upgrading my mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13", I've purchased some new RAM and also a 120GB SSD and a 1TB SSHD (Hybrid SSD and HD) with the intention of using an OWC data doubler to get rid of my dvd drive and place the SSD drive there instead. So after I've placed everything into the Mac, how do I make the SSD my boot drive with the OS on it and everything, and the SSHD where all my data (music, photos etc) are stored?

Youll need to CLONE your internal HD to your target (temporarily) external drive.
1. grab carbon copy cloner or (my fave) superDuper CLONE app.
2. attach target clone drive via USB in an enclosure or HD dock. Firstly format the target (external new) HD in disk utility in “Mac OS extended journaled”
3. clone internal HD to target HD (external) [takes about 40 mins depending on size]
4. Boot ONCE from external (go to sys. preference to boot from external) to TEST the new Clone
5. open bottom (see videos on ifixit or youtube on same) and remove old, install new.

Using existing 1Tb Home Folder from new SSD boot drive

So, I am completely stuck.
My plan;
Mac Pro (2008) with RAID card. 4x750Gb drives as RAID5, Home Folder is resident there at 1.25Tb.
Purchased 160Gb SSD. Performed clean install of 10.6.7 on it connected by e-SATA.
Migrated Applications. Booted into SSD; Used Advanced Users from System Preferences to point at original Home Folder on RAID.
My result ;-)
50% success but many of the sub folders in ~Library are locked with permissions. Preferences, Mail etc.
Everything is 100% OK when I boot from the original Raid (which is great as a fallback)
My hope;
That there is some way that the original Home Folder would be 100% fine when referenced from the new SSD boot drive.
£1,000,000 to the first MacWiz to help me solve this... (joking about the £1,000,000 but I would be very, very grateful indeed)

I just went through a similar issue and solved it with a little persistance.
Follow these steps:
1) All you need to do is cmd + i or "get info" on the folders you want access to
2) in the bottom right of the window that pops up click the small padlock symbol
3) enter your password (the login password for you mac) to "authenticate"
4) Click the arrow by "sharing and permissions" to open that drop down
5) click the + button in the bottom left corner
6) in the new window that pops up click administrator or your specific user (both work fine)
7) when it adds that user click the "privilege" and choose Read & Write
Hey presto, when you refresh the finder window the folder will be accessilble!!!

How big a drive is needed for "Previews, Media Cache, Exports"

I've been looking at the guidelines on setting up disk drives to use Adobe and it seems common practice to put "Previews, Media Cache, Exports" all on the same drive.
Question1: If I set my Cache Disk to this in the Preferences, does it take care of sending all these things to the one hard drive or do I have to in every Adobe program specify location for Previews, one for Media Cache, and one for Exports?
Question2: How big of a drive is reasonable to use only for "Previews, Media Cache, Exports"?

While Jim is not wrong, I am rather pleased with my new setup.
Just for reference, I have:
SSD for my boot drive.
Two 2TB drives as a RAID0 for my media
Two 2TB drives as a RAID0 for cache. I put my Windows paging file on here also.
One 2TB drive for finished product, the My Documents folders and all of my editing resources like lower thirds, backgrounds, etc.
You could reduce the drive size to 1TB or less to save money and get the same results.
I am tied for third place in the Disk I/O category on http://PPBM5.com among CS6 users. (#2 ranking of all CS6 users) So, while I like Jim's idea of even more disks for all of the different categories of storage requirements (using RAID0 for media and cache like I do) there is a limit to how much money most people have. Mine works great. I don't see a bottleneck (except with RED footage which would force a different RAID configuration and a lot more space if I ever had to use it for more than a quick test). I should point out that my drives are pretty empty. And brand new. It helps with the spped.

I have a little C# Form Application which should be create a Public Folder and assign permission for a Distribution Group in Exchange 2010.
I have found following in the EWS Documentation:
FolderPermission fp = new FolderPermission();
fp.UserId.PrimarySmtpAddress = "[email protected]";
If i try this with a User Email it works as well. But if I try to set a Email address from a Distribution Group it will throw this Error:
"Invailid UserID"
Does anybody know, how to set Folder Permissions to a Distribution Group?

You can't set permission on an Item in a Public folder the only level you can set the permissions at are on the folder. Your probably better of using a Distribution Group which you can create via the Exchange Management Shell

How to show the Library folder in an external hard drive

I am trying to restore the Skype Chat History to my new computer.
My old hard drive crashed and had to be replaced. Unfortunately my back-up Time Machine file was corrupted due to fact that this is a VERY EASY thing to happen and hence I DO NOT recommend that anyone uses Time Machine through a wirelessly connected hard drive, such as a Time Capsule - a very bad design flaw!
Luckily I am able to access some of the files on the old hard driave that was removed from my laptop. However I can not find a Skype folder or the Application support folder under my user name. Because it is an external drive, I can not use the techniques that have been suggested in other posts (such as using Terminal to permanently show the Library folder or using the Option key).
Can you please help me!?

Open a Finder window and choose the external drive with the user folder in the Finder sidebar. Then, make sure you see your user folder in the Finder window, because you will need it.
Now, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
chflags nohidden
After typing that, press the Space key and drag your user folder from the Finder window to your Terminal window, and after dragging it, now type after the dragged folder (without space):
/Library
In Terminal you should see:
chflags nohidden (yourdraggeduserfolder)/Library
Finally, press the Enter key and the Library folder will show up

How to make an App default for certain kind of content?

In example, I'm on the Fliboard App, then I found a YouTube video but is too large and cant view it now, the obious option is to add it to the 'watch it later' list on YouTube but with the embedded video on the app i do not have this option, then I tap on the name of the video and it takes me to the YouTube page but I still have a embedded website on the Fliboard App and I dont have the full experience of the YouTube App, the most obvious way to do this should be something like: tap on the name of the video > open in the corresponding App (in this case YouTube but could be the same for Vimeo or similars) > view the video on native App and have a full experience on the video.
Is there a way to do this?

The C based languages are harder to pick than ones such as Java or web coding languages (AJAX, etc). Programming takes a lot of time and effort. Learning something new is never a waste of time if it is going to be profitable for you. It may take you a few months to get the hang of it if you have never programmed anything before but you have to start somewhere.
I would suggest getting some books and start reaading and trying the examples in the book. If you can figure out logic strings (IF event a OR c happens produce postive output) and learn how to use them properly you will be able to pick it up fairly quickly.
You application may take you a few months to produce but you will learn a lot along the way. Once you have done it once it will take you far less time to reproduce it later on when you may need the same code/skills for another project.

How do I install cloud apps to a non OS drive

I went to preferences and put in E:\Program Files\Adobe and my programs are still installing to the C:\ drive These apps are going to run my SSD OS drive out of space. This so called "simple" installation where the manager does the installation for you with no dialogs is for the birds. Why can't I select my path as part of the installation like every other app in the world allows me to do???

next, I try stopping the download manager and going back into it. My settings are still there. And I download Photoshop and it installs (thankfully) on my E drive. But the so called smart installer is too stupid to realize that the 32 bit version should go in the x86 folder. Instead, it installs both the 32 bit and 64 bit in the same folder. But it never asked me if I wanted the 32 bit installed in the first place, which I did NOT want to do.

How to stop Accounting Entries for certain Movement Types

Hello,
We are using Movement Type 511 to record free of charge receipts from vendors. Still it is generating Accounting Entries with Standard Material Price.
Is there any way to stop Accounting Entries for 511 and other Movement Types, where external business partners are involved ?
I tried IMG Setting "Define Account Grouping for Movement Types", where I did not tick in the field "Value Updates". But it did not work.
I believe, Account Grouping settings at the level of combination of Plant and Material Type takes precedence. There I have ticked in the field "Value Updates". So even if create a new Movement Type, with no tick in the field "Value Updates", it creates Accounting Entries for free of charge receipts from vendors.
Is there any way to stop any accounting entries in such cases ?
Basically I want 311-like movement type, but where external business partners are involved.

I created a new Movement Type - copied it from 511 and made the changes as per your suggestions - disabled field "Value Update" in "Update Control / WM Movement Types".
Using MIGO when I try to receive the material, it gives me error "Update Control of Movement Type is Incorrect"
Any reason for this error ? I have disabled even "Check Account Assignment" in Account Grouping

How do I open a new tab? None of the options work for me.

I've tried:
1. Clicking the "+" icon next to my current tab
2. Going to "File -> New Tab"
3. Using the "Ctrl - T" keyboard shortcut
4. Restarting Firefox
5. Restarting my computer (Windows 7 laptop)
6. Downloading all possible updates -> Restarting my computer
... Opening a link on the current web page DOES work...

The Ask Toolbar has been causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

How set up defaults for Rich Media parms?

My PDFs typically contain a large number of video clips - sometimes as many as 100, with the same particular cluster of parameters needed for every one (floating window, stay open forever till closed by user, no poster, etc.). The current interface forces me to enter these parameters again and again in a set of different dialogs for every single one of these clips one at a time. Then when I inevitably realize later that I need to edit the document, Acrobat's primitive Text Touch-up capabilities force me to return to the source Word document, make the changes there, rebuild the PDF, and go through the same lengthy and tedious process of embedding the video clips and setting their parameters all over again.
I have requested the ability to have a set of parameters stored as a default as long as about seven years ago, but without success. Back then, someone recommended to me a third party company that might be able to do this for me, but at the time, I was reluctant to spend the money. No longer. I'm now ready to pay the piper. Does anyone know of such a company that might rescue me from this Sisyphusean toil? Or some other solution that I'm simply not aware of?

Thanks, but as far as I can see, Replace Pages won't do the job either. Either I must go back to the source document in Microsoft Word and make the changes, perform the page replacement, then re-insert the media clips, or excerpt the appropriate pages to a separate PDF and make the changes with the Text Touch-up tool, which does not enable the text to flow to a second page. And in neither one of these means does the text flow to the next page with all other pages flowing as desired - to say nothing of the fact the many of my decisions as to when to make a new page depend on my own judgement in the source document as to margins, when to add a carriage return to prevent splitting of material that should stay together, and so on.
So on your advice I have just submitted a post on this topic to the Acrobat SDK forum.
