How do I burn a data disc of my camcorder movies that can play on an HP?

Very frustrated, first I have no iDVD on my new Mac.  Very disappointing.  So now, I have my home movies on the Mac and need to burn them off to a disc, when I burn to a data disc, it wont play on another computer at all.  Please help so that I can share my videos with others????

well-iDVD Used to be included, but now it's not  =-( I think it's around $30
you could try using "Burn" which I think is freeware and will burn basic DVD video discs. Otherwise, you're gonna have to buy something. Yeah, mac's gonna take some gettin' used to, likewise, if I was to try and use a PC, it'd take some getting used to as well. iPhoto might help you with your photos and stuff and it may be included. You may be able to use right click on the movie and burn it to a disc. Dunno if it'll play back on a PC, though... if you had a cloud account or some storage space online you could do it that way, but, enough
well, I tried

Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

  • How do I burn a data disc that's compatible with Windows?

Everytime I burn a data disc on my Mac, it isn't compatible with PCs. It doesn't matter what PC I put the Mac data disc in, the PC crashes and gives me a BadPoolHeader blue screen. I take the disc out and have to restart the computer, once the disc is out everything is fine. My PC, which runs Windows XP, has an 2nd internal hard drive, which I use as a storage drive. I just want to transfer files from my Mac to the PC, so I can store some of my Mac's files (photos, word documents, music, and such) on that storage drive. I'm using a CD-R disc. Is there a way to burn a PC compatible data disc on my Mac? How can I do this (steps)? If it helps, I'm using Mac OSX 10.4.11.

Thank you so much Kappy, your steps worked! I can now make PC readable data disks, yay!
dbsneddon, I was also dragging and dropping into a burn folder and just hitting burn, but the discs that were created weren't readable in PCs, only on Macs. My friend tells me he is able to make discs that can read in PCs by just dragging and dropping too. My Mac is just being mean I think. It always has issues, it can never do anything that simple without giving me a problem lol.

  • How do you burn a data disc  in ML

    Hi
I would like to burn  a few install programs to a data disc  so that should I ever need to I can reinstall them  but I  am a a loss as how to do this in mountain lion on 2012 imac  I do have a superdrive  but since i haven't done this before  not sure how to go about it.  I have  several installer  downloads  I purchased , I just don't want to repurchase them later if I can help it . thanks for all help:)
also on another note but maybe related  can I use  my old idvd program from ( not for this but future home movies )  my 2008 imac  box set???

In addition to Clinton's method (which is handy if you already have the data files in one place or are willing to move or copy them into one place), you can also make use of "burn folders" -- special folders of aliases that "Burn (name) to disc" will follow while burning. When you drag any file or folder into a burn folder, an alias is created (much faster than copying the data, and less disruptive then moving it).
Search for "burn folder" in Finder Help for more information.

  • I have created a slideshow using i Photo. How do I burn it to disc so that I can play it on my DVD?

I have created a slideshow using i Photo.
How do I burn it to disc to play on a DVD.
    I cannot access i DVD.
    Is this the problem?
I have exported the slideshow as a movie quick time file.
    What do I do next???

If your Mac is a new one, like mine, then it comes with a version of iLife that doesn't have iDVD and if so, there isn't an easy way to burn a DVD from iPhoto or iMovie that will play on a normal DVD player.  There is quite a bit of correspondence about this, but I couldn't find a good answer, apart from this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18460085#18460085
I ended up buying (via Amazon) a boxed version of iLife11, which has all the same software I already have, but with a copy of iDVD with it.
Seems to work well with iMovie, but at the moment, my copy of iPhoto has crashed - see:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18943719#18943719
Having only just transferred from a Windows machine to a Mac, it seems incredibly arrogant for Apple to think people don't use DVD players anymore.

  • Is it possible to burn a data disc in premiere elements 10?

    Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to burn a data disc in premiere elements 10 rather than copy a whole project. I understand that I would be able to make further copies from this disc. Is it possible and is this information correct?
    Dave

I am not sure I understand your question... Premiere Elements is a video editing program, with disc output being a MOVIE DVD or BluRay
I think you need to use a different product to write computer files to a DATA disc
For Windows, use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Read http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1322583 for notes on installing Imgburn WITHOUT any toolbar add-ons
The Elements Tutorial Links Page http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1275830 has links about sharing to a disc

  • Renaming files when burning a data disc

Well, with iTunes 4.x, it used to be that when you burned a data disc from iTunes on a Mac, it would rename files with characters that were invalid on other OSes (like "?"). And with iTunes 5.x - NOPE! Now I cannot copy files from my Mac over to iTunes on my PC.
Nice job again Apple. Your QA is absolutely TOP NOTCH!

use an older version of itunes, it works fine that way.
Back them up as data disks, then unistall it and reinstall an older version, it will work fine

im making a photo slide show using imovie. how will i make a dvd copy that can play in both pc and dvd player.  i dont have an idvd anymore. m using a mbp early 2011 osx 10.8.5.
after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie.  after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov.  i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players.  what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player.  can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export.  im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time.  please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto.  thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

Thank you QuickTimeKirk...used toast to burn project... my project was in .mov, i tried to play it a dvd player, it did play... will try again tomorrow using another dvd player just to be sure it'll will really work with dvd players.  thank you again for your reply *=)

  • HT1382 Is there anyway to convert video taken by ipad and burn it to a DVD that can play on DVD player?

Is there anyway to convert video taken by ipad and burn it to a DVD that can play on DVD player?

    Persius,
Nearly every DVD that will play on a set-top player *should* play on a computer, provided two things:
1.) the computer has a DVD player that can handle that flavor of DVD media, DVD RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD DL, etc.
2.) the computer has a software player installed. This feature has been removed from some common media players. You may need to locate, download and install a separate software player.
There could be another discussion on interlaced vs progressive scan media, but I'll let you ask that question.

Is there a way to burn an imovie I made to a dvd that will play in my dvd player connected to my tv?

Yes but this has nothing to do with iTunes.
Open the file in iMovie and select menu Share > iDVD.

    I'm using Menmorex Dual Layer discs DVD+R DL recordable - 8X - 8.5GB - 240min.
the data I'm trying to back up is 7.86GB. Any thoughts?

I use Verbatim DVD+R DL with perfect success.
I would start with a R/W DVD and just burn a test file or two.
One reason I use Toast is exactly what you experienced. Finder/DU burning usually works OK.
The key word there is usually.
I have never had a problem with Toast Titanium.
If you google with your error you get all kinds of issues/solutions.
One says that using an external drive worked but the internal did not.
    I think it's a Catch-22 error.
There are also some settings that determine disk speed, write speed, etc. stored somewhere.
You can try the next step which is to use the disk utility directly. Open DU and click on the optical drive. From there you should be able to select the image you have and burn it.
If that fails, consider Toast, as I did. I have not used the DU/Finder burner since I got Toast.

  • Burning DVD data discs?

When I insert a blank CD-R in my Superdrive(tm), the blank disk appears on my desktop, making it easy to drag and drop files to it to be burned.
Blank DVD+R discs don't show up on my desktop, however. Is that by design? I'm guessing I could still burn a DVD data disc by using a burn folder, correct? Is there a better way?
I know the disks I'm using are compatible with the Superdrive because I've successfully burned DVD movies to those disks using iDVD.
    Thanks.

It is possible that when you insert a blank DVD, it is set to open up in a specific application (maybe iDVD). Open up system preferences, click on "CD & DVDs" and make sure that the category "When you insert a blank DVD", the drop down menu is on "Ask what to do" so that you have the option of opening it in the finder.
