How do I contact AppleCare or whatever to get my broken laptop back?

On Thursday I took my malfunctioning laptop to the Genius Bar to get it repaired. I got a call from Apple today telling me that my MacBook was no longer covered by it's warranty due extensive rusting as a result of accidental water damage. What I want to know is how can I contact them again so that I can get my macbook back and take it to a third party for repairs as they may be cheaper and give me a more accurate diagnosis.

Hi Tom,
May I make a suggestion please.  Caution please with those other repair places please.  You'll find the Apple Service is outstanding and if there's rust you may find other concerns popping up later. Ask the Apple Repair Team if it is worth fixing in the first place and if so what you may expect to encount in the future towards other repairs due to water damage.
I can understand wanting to save money but at times it's better to go for a repturable Service Center than some Repair Store in a strip Mall....speaking from experience too.
As for calling an Apple Store they generally are in the phone book or you can go to this site and find what you'll need too:
Apple's Website. http://www.apple.com/retail/
If you have to buy another computer and wanting to save money consider contacting Apple and see what they have that's discounted or refurbished, consider Craigs List too (URL: craigslist.com).  That's where I got mine at almost a 40% savings.  There's lots of options for you. The need here is please as I view it is to think through all your options and make your educated decision after much research and from qualifed personell. I hope this was of help...."Been there---Done that--- See Ya".

I've never tried that. I really don't know if it can be done - try the iPhoto discussion board at https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto.

  • How can I reinstall my mail accounts and get all my mails back?

My internal HD died a few days ago . Fortunately I did a Time Machine backup a couple of hours before it happened .
Now my MacBook Pro is back from the repair center, with a brand new HD and Mac OS 10.6.8 installed (the system I had) .
But how can I get all my mails back? Indeed I used Mail to manage many mail accounts, and some of the inboxes or local mailboxes contain messages that are a few months if not years old. I coud reconfigure my accounts, but then I only get the mails of the last few weeks downloaded (those that were not erased from the pop3-server). Is there a possibility to get all the mails (including outbox) as it was before the crash?
By the way, I'm also still looking for my address book and my iCal calendars !!
    Thanks for help.

I have a MacBook Air, bought in 2010 or 2011.  It is running OS 10.6.8.
I have an iMac that is the same age as my MacBook Air.  My iPhone is 2nd or 3rd generation.
None can support "the Cloud".  I use gmail and my iPhone and both computers are all synced.
I can't get email on my new iPad that does use "The Cloud".
    Please help.

I had an old iPod nano with my content saved on it and was stolen. As well, I can't find and access my old account that I had with it. I bought an iPod touch and made a new account so that I could use the iTouch. Anyone know how to find the old account and how to transfer data from the old one to the new account?

I want to update my current iOS from 4.2.1 to 5.0.1 for the Assistive Touch feature that allows you to have an on screen home button
I tried downloading the file myself (not through iTunes), making sure I got the iPod 4G file. Go into iTunes and install it and it says it cannot upgrade because the firmware is not compatible
iOS 4.2.1 - there's a clue. It begs the question about which model of iPod you have. Yes, I know you said:  (and yes, I have a 4G) by which I assume you're saying that you have a 4th generation Touch, but are you sure? This has been claimed before by people who then discover that they do not have a 4th gen Touch. Which size Touch do you have and what is the model number on the back of your iPod? If it says model A1288, that's a 2nd generation iPod Touch. Check this page  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 for help in identifying your model of iPod.
The second clue - and the reason I've mentioned all this, is that you then say you have downloaded the file yourself but "it cannot upgrade because the firmware is not compatible." In other words, iOS 5.0 cannot be used with your iPod. That also suggests that you have 2nd gen Touch.
Persumbaly, you have tried connecting the Touch to iTunes and selecting "check for updates?" What does it say?

  • I dont have txting on my phone how do i Contacte s...

i need to find out how i can contacte skype so i can get caller ID on my skype with my cell phon i dont have txting on it so i cant do it that way someone plz help ty

how do i get them on my new mac now?
Be careful, when you connect the iPhone to your mac, unless you have saved the photos. Synced photos may easily  be accidentally deleted by syncing again. And do not enable iCloud Photo  Library (Beta), that will erase synced photos as well.  Synced Photos are not included in the device backups.
Set your iTunes Preferences to "Devices > Prevent iPos, iPhones, iPads from syncing automatically".  Otherwise iTunes may launch and sync your iPhone with an empty iPhoto library the moment you connect it.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync the synced photos back. Apple recommends to mail them back, but that would be a lot of clicking (iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support). You could also share them to a Shared Album, but a third party app like TD recommended, will be better.

  • MacBook Pro wiped, contact AppleCare

Earlier today, while browsing in safari, my older MacBook Pro stopped responding. I couldn't do anything. I then held down the power button to restart it and upon restarting, I saw the empty folder symbol. I reset the PRAM, restarted, but then a stop sign appeared and I couldn't get past that screen. So I held down Command + Option + R to get the OSX Utility Window after again restarting, I looked at reparing the disk, but all I saw was a 1.39GB Apple disk, presumably the OS. I then tried reinstalling the software, I was told that Apple would verify my reinstallation, and then got a "Contact AppleCare" notice. Is the only thing I can do contact AppleCare, or can I do something else and avoid all the hassle? Has my computer been wiped? How? I reset my Apple ID password and am now waiting 3 days for a two-step verification. I made no backups for that computer. What do I do?

The OS wouldn't even fit on a 1.39GB partition. The EFI and Recovery partitions are usually around 700MB or so, if I recall correctly.
You booted into Internet Recovery but if you only saw a 1.39GB partition you main partition isn't showing up. Try to run Disk Utility on the "Macintosh HD" (or whatever you've named your main partition) and see if it can be verified. If you don't see it, you'll probably need to erase the entire drive and install the system anew and restore from backups - oh, yeah, no backups - sorry.
Did you have your Apple ID and password handy when you tried to reinstall the OS? I'm expecting that you should have and, somehow, the system couldn't verify your OS X purchase and that's why you were referred to AppleCare.
It seems that you'll just have to wait that three days before you can really accomplish anything. And if you can't boot the system, you'll not be able to grab any data from your drive (unless you purchase a new drive and try one of the data rescue packages to try to retrieve some of your data).
I don't see any other way out of the situation - unless you have an older MacBook Pro that shipped with discs?

  • How do I contact support? Have email receipt for magazine subscription renewal on iPad - can't activate!!

I received a receipt from iTunes for two items: a subscription to the series 48 Hours, and a renewal of my subscription to the magazine Reader's Digest.
    48 Hours works fine.
Reader's Digest I can't get into. I press the gear in the upper right corner, enter my Apple ID and password and get an "opportunity" to purchase issues I've already paid for with my $14.95 annual subscription.
Reader's Digest tells me this is an iTunes issue.
I find nowhere to get support since my AppleCare subscription ran out after 2 years...I don't have a hardware issue, I have a "someone stole $14.95 and I want a refund or to get my subscription activated" problem.
When I click "report a problem" on the receipt (which is about a month old) I get "Oops! Google Chrome could not find nk11p02it-ibav22281602:8141". When I search on my orders for the Order ID (MGN9GV1YGT) it doesn't appear, although clearly it's on the receipt. So how do I protect myself against Apple and/or RD simply stealing my $15 and giving me nothing for it, considering I can't contact Customer Service since my device is out of warranty? Obviously this is NOT a device issue. It's a stealing $$$ from me issue.
HOW DO I CONTACT SOMEONE FOR HELP WITH THIS?
    Thanks...
    Jay from the Bronx

Thanks for that link which is hidden away on the ProDAD website & leads to a form to be filled to contact ProDAD. I received an email back this morning & a link to download an unlocked version of the Mac plugins so now all is working. [email address deleted by host]

  • Could not find installation information for this machine contact applecare

I installed Lion on my MacBook, worked great. After 2 months I wanted to clean install the Lion on the same Macbook; went to Apple Support website and there they had instructions on how to clean install Lion.
I followed the instructions and erased the partition where the OS Lion was installed. Then I tried to re-install it, it kept saying "could not find installation information for this machine contact applecare".
When I contacted apple care, they asked me to pay 49 dollars in order to get help from them. I already paid the cost for the LION OS and now they want another 49 bucks. This is just insane. I'm not a fan of Apple, Mac or iCrap. But I was thinking to buy a new Mac after selling this one. Now I have no interest in buying any Mac product. Windows 7 is much much better than Lion OS X.
I have to fix this before I sell it on ebay so Has anyone tried to clean install Lion ?

I'm with you, OS X Lion has turned a lot of stomachs.
Here's how to go about what you need to do:
Get out your 10.6 installer disk, make sure it's clean and polished (bit of rubbing alcohol and a very soft cloth)
Get 2 blank external drives, connect one and hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk, use Disk Utility to format the external drive use
Erase>Security Option> Zero all data, wait
    under the partition tab
1 partition, option MBR, format FAT
    Disconnect and reboot.
Repeat the same procedure for the second drive and format the
Erase>Security Option> Zero all data, wait
    under the partition tab
1 partition, option GUID, format OS X Extended Journaled
Quit and install 10.6 on the external GUID drive.
Reboot holding the option key, you can boot off the 10.6 external drive, setup, use your same user name as before, update to 10.6.8, grab your files off the OSX Lion partition, transfer a copy to the FAT formatted drive.
What you do is your choice,
To continue using the machine under 10.6
you can erase the entire (select the whole internal drive, not just the OS X Lion Paritition) and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone 10.6 external to the internal drive,
To sell the machine with a fresh 10.6 install
or simply hold c boot off the 10.6 installer disk and install 10.6 on the internal drive and upon reboot, just hard shutdown by pressing the powerbutton before going through setup. The next person who gets the machine will be greeted by the setup again.
You can use the files on the FAT drive on your Windows PC in some cases.
Else download the free LibreOffice and it can read quite a few file formats.

  • How can I contact or talk to some one about my bill

How can I contact or talk to some one about my billing, there are charges on my cc that I no nothing about can someone help me please.

Check your iTunes Store Purchase History (and that of any other AppleIDs which may have your CC linked... Partner / Child / Old AppleID accounts). Use iTunes Store & Mac App Store: Seeing your Purchase History and Order Numbers and a computer with iTunes installed (you can't see this info through the iTunes or App Store Apps on an iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch).
If the purchases are there in the Purchase History and you or a family member recognise them then it's up to you if you request a refund for accidental purchases via Email using http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ or accept the charges.
If however you find them but know it's not something you or someone else authorised to use the AppleID have bought, use the iForgot Website to reset your password, then go to the AppleID Website, sign in to Manage Your Apple ID then go to the Password and Security link on the left to change Security Questions then call AppleCare (0844 209 0611) to speak to iTunes Store Fraud as someone has hacked your AppleID. If you can find no record of the amounts which have come off the CC, call the Bank or Credit Card company and have them block the card and issue a new one as the details have been registered with another AppleID without your knowledge, THEN get in touch with AppleCare and speak to iTunes Store Fraud for a refund of the fraudulent purchases.

  • How do I contact apple for a replacement macbook?

I have had a series of problems with my macbook and two repairs later I am still having issues.
My computer would sporadically lose contact with the wifi, unable to load the internet despite having 'full bars', whilst my phone and iPad could both connect. It also randomly crashes at least once per day without any warning, the screen just suddenly goes black, then it loads a grey error page saying that my computer restarted because of a problem.
I initially took it into Stormfront (no apple centre in Durham) and they took it away, wiped it, and gave it back to me, however the error still persisted.
I then took it into the apple store in Newcastle where they replaced the logic board and the memory. It worked ok for a few days but then it crashed again and upon reloading the top half of the screen was glitching.
Despite all of this I really like my macbook, I just want it to work properly. I have to prepare work for both a summer project with my uni and also for an internship and use f my macbook is essential to both of these and the computer continually crashing plus the time spent without my macbook whilst it is being repaired is becoming quite inconvenient and stressful
How would I contact to inquire about getting my macbook replaced? All I want is a computer that is fully functional, that doesn't make my work even more stressful and difficult.

I would either take it to a store or call AppleCare, indicate you have a warranty problem, and request a replacement.

If you are in the U.S., you can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store. You can do the same in any other country where AppleCare and/or Apple stores are available.
