How do I copy my startup drive to a new drive.

I have a 2009 MacPro running 10.7.5. I have a 3tb drive and would like to copy my old startup drive to it. My time machine drive has crashed and I do not have the option of copying from it.
Thanks for your help,
ballhawkers

Use a program such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper to clone it.

  • How to create an alternate startup drive?

I upgraded to 10.8.3 from the Internet and therefore do not have a boot DVD since buying Snow Leapard.
I need to create an alternate startup disk.
How do I do this with Mountain Lion using an external HD (WD myBook) connected via USB?
    TIA!!

Clone your current system to your external drive. This will erase the target drive so be sure you don't have anything on the drive that you don't want to lose. Alternatively, create a separate partition on the drive for the clone. You will need enough free space on the drive to hold everything that is on your startup volume.
Clone Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • How do I copy my email messages to my new ipad?

    Hello,
Just got a new iPad, and I would like to transfer the email messages that are saved on the old ipad to the new one. I'm not bothered for the settings, as they are easy enough to do on the new one.
I checked the articles about backing up and restoring, but then noticed this article that says (if I read it correctly) that whilst the account settings will be backed up, the saved messages won't. Well, that's the exact opposite of what I want. I'm not bothered about the account settings, but I specifically want the saved messages to be backed up, as I want to copy them across to the the new ipad.
Anyone able to help? This all seems very complex for what should be a simple operation. Thanks

I could not agree more with these statements!
Anyone know how to copy saved emails from one ipad to another? This is about the mst obvious and important thing I can imagine anyone wanting to do when they get a new ipad, that I can't believe Apple have made it so hard.
Were you ever able to find a way to get your cached/saved POP emails over to your new iPad?  How can there NOT be a way to do this?  I don't care that POP is old technology -- the iPad allows it to be used so it should provide sufficient functionality to make full use of it.  Mailbox export/import is a basic function of any mail application.

  • How do I copy one NAS drive to another, incrementally?

Hello - I have two 1tb Network Attached Storage devices on my Apple network.
I'm unsure how to make one a backup copy of the other. Tools used for cloning the Macintosh HD to a backup device (like Carbon Copy, Super Duper, Time Machine, Apple backup etc.) don't seem to allow me to make a copy of a NAS drive on a second NAS drive.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can do this please?
    David.

Sorry to butt in, but could you explain this to me please. Typing rsync into the finder on my desktop finds no results. Is this a way of copying files without overwriting the files that are already the same?

  • HT1338 how to make space on startup drive?

how to make space on start up drive?

Use http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/ to remove unwanted languages - DO NOT remove anything else with it.
Install http://links.zero.eu.org/os-x/period/ to clear out very old log files etc
Paste the following into open Terminal (in Utilities) window and then hit return - give password when asked and hit return again - takes a while but it will list your 100 largest files:
    cd / ; sudo du -caxk .[!.]* *| sort -rn | head -100
Keep backups on an external drive.
Put photos on DVDs and not your Mac.

  • How do I copy my itunes library to my new computer?

I know this questions must have been asked and answer a million times, but here it goes...
I just purchased a new MacBook, I used to have a Toshiba, so I'm new to the whole Apple thing. I've had my Ipod for over a year now, and I want to copy all those songs to my computer since I want to sell the old one. How do I do that? Is it even possible? I've read a few posts and I see it isn't easy to do. I don't want to lose all the songs I have in my Ipod. Please help!

*I don't want to lose all the songs I have in my Ipod. Please help!*
You can transfer the songs from the iPod to the Mac. Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How can i copy music from old laptop to new without everything downloading via cloud?

I tried to back up my songs to an external drive and then import them to the new laptop.  It worked for about the first day, but then it wouldn't play my songs.  I kept trying and now it plays, but it shows every song i ever purchased since 6th grade!  There is a cloud symbol next to some.  I don't want to download every single song from icloud (over 2,000 songs).  I just want to copy the 800+ songs on my old laptop before i get rid of it.  PLEASE Help.

  • How to mass copy old rating and weightage to new appraisal documents in OSA

    Hello experts,
As a part of annual appraisal process, we have incorporated some new logics in terms of rating calculation and elements in the same templates. But those logics are not being copied in already triggered documents whose goals/objects are approved by manager during mid year.
Now we are planning to trigger new documents for all those employees, but can any one suggest how to copy those approved goals and objectives in new documents? As my client doesnot want to go through the goal setting process again .
Please suggest if any BADI or ABAP program we can use for the same.
    Regards
    Tandrima

implement a fix enhancement (HRHAP00_ENHANCE_FIX) to add the old approved elements to the new document. And tehn have value determinations (HRHAP00_VAL_DET) to fill these added elements with the correct content.

  • How do you Copy a row to create a new row in the same table?

    Hi,
We have a PurchaseOrderHeaderView object and on click of Copy Purchase Order we want to copy a row in PURCHASE_ORDER_HEADER table to create a new row. We don't want to copy the primary key only the remaining fields.
    Regards
    Madhuri

If you use ADF BC, you can create a new row programatically via createRow and use a sequence to create the Id and use the "original" row (probably the current row in the view object) to copy the values from to newly created row. Then use insertRow and commit to create the copied row.
