  • How do I create a desktop shortcut to an application in Mac OS 9?

For example I have installed the original command and conquer (Blast from the past!) how do I get the application icon to the desktop as a 'shortcut'?

You can also hold down both the Command and Option keys, and while keeping them held down drag the icon of the game out to the desktop. When you release the mouse, an alias (shortcut) to the game will be created where you let go.
One advantage to this method is that the resulting alias will not have the word "alias" appended to it (unless you initially drop it in the same folder as the original).

  • How would I create a desktop shortcut for one of my bookmarks?

What I would like to do is access one of my bookmarks straight from my desktop. I think I need to create a shortcut in order to do this. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Sorry misunderstood
    Here's solution
You can use Firefox to create a shortcut on your computer's desktop to a page you've visited:Resize the Firefox window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Firefox window on the same screen.Click the icon on the left of the Location bar, i.e. where the web address (URL) is shown. While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created. You can also drag and drop items to the desktop from the Bookmarks menu and the Library window to create shortcuts. If you open the shortcut you made, your default browser will open, and display the page for which you made the shortcut. If you want to make Firefox your default browser, see How to make web links open in Firefox by default. In addition, there may be third-party Firefox extensions that can help you. For more information on searching for and installing extensions, see Find and install add-ons to add features to Firefox.Share this article: http://mzl.la/O8wQKO

  • New Problem creating a desktop shortcut to photoshop 2014 causes the program to break?

After getting fed up of waiting for adobe CC to finally finish buffering I thought I'd create a desktop shortcut to Photoshop (To save time). After doing this I doubled clicked on the shortcut and after 15 minutes of waiting I realized something was wrong double clicking again and watching the task manager I noticed Photoshop appear for half a second under background processes and then disappear entirely. So I then tried to launch Photoshop 2014 from Adobe CC under Installed Apps and this does the exact same thing. Both links to Photoshop now don't work and just sit there.
I would appreciate some help and I am also getting increasingly tired of ongoing problems with the software..........(I still have 30 days well 28 to cancel this subscription and simply buy a disk version of CS6)
    Please help!
Or if you cant help how do i get in contact with someone at adobe?

You can't just create a short cut during the installation process. If the shortcut is not there, then it was not done installing. That's why it does not work correctly, it is still lacking an important piece of  the puzzle, more commonly known as dll's. (dll is an external app that the main app polls from when needed. This on windows, I do not know what the external apps are called on a mac)
I recommend that you uninstall all of adobe's apps including the manager and if needed use the adobe cleaner to remove portions if the uninstaller fails to do so. Then restart your computer and install again. How long it take to install will depend on the size of the file, the speed of your internet connection, if using wifi, the speed of that connection, the speed of Adobe's server, how much of a load is on Adobe's server.
If you are using wifi, you can remove that bottle neck by using a direct connection with eithernet or other means ex. usb.

  • How do I create a desktop Icon for Adobe create pdf?

How do I create a desktop icon for Adobe create pdf?

    Hi, ken.
You can access ExportPDF from your computer more quickly in three ways:
You can download and install the CreatePDF Desktop Application. More info is here. With this application, you can drag PDF files onto a desktop icon and have those converted to Office files. (If you subscribe to the CreatePDF service, this application will also allow you to create PDF files.)
You can download and install the newest Adobe Reader and access the service using Reader's Tools Pane on right. Then, any time you have PDF open in Reader, you can (with a couple of clicks) convert that PDF to an Office file.
You can drag the webpage icon from your browser to your desktop. This will create a shortcut to the ExportPDF website on your desktop. Here are some instructions for doing that using Internet Explorer or Firefox.
Let us know if you have additional questions or issues.

  • To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

    Hi
I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
    What i want is--
Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    >
Please suggest me.>Launch the application using java webstart. A webstart launch offers things like a splash screen, automatic updates, and desktop integration in the form of desktop shortcuts and program menu items. If the launch file specifies icons, they are used for the shortcuts, otherwise a generic icon is used.
For a comparison between a sandboxed webstart launch and a plain app., try the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/].
While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.
    Edit 1:
And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.

  • Create a desktop shortcut to a website without a mouse?

    Hi.
i have low vision, so i am searching for an easy way to copy an URL into an internet shortcut to the desctop/or any other folder, without the mouse.
Hopefully something that can make it possible for me to press some hotkeys in firefox, and then go to a location and press ctrl+v and an internet shortcut will be pasted there.
as a reference something like what is described in this linkk, but without the mouse
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website#firefox:win7:fx35
    hope somebody have a solution
    thanx.

There were already some suggestions to create a short cut, so I left out suggestions.
You would first have to copy the link to the clipboard.
If the link is in the location/address bar then this is easy (Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C).
For a link on the website this can be more difficult and you would have to use the Tab key to set focus to the link and press the button to open the right-click context menu to copy the link that way to the clipboard.
Once the link is on the clipboard it shouldn't be difficult to create a desktop shortcut.
You may have to make a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut if you can't create an internet shortcut and add the link to its target field in the properties.

  • Create a desktop shortcut to a website

The advice re this given at
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Creating+a+desktop+shortcut+to+a+web+page
works on my HP laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
The same advice DOES NOT WORK on my generic desktop running Windows 7 Professional.
What do I need to do to get it to work with Windows 7 Professional?
    Does the support page
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Creating+a+desktop+shortcut+to+a+web+page
need to be modified to address different OS's?
    Thank you.

What happens on your Windows 7 system? Do you get an error message? Mouse pointer indicating it's a no-go? Just nothing happens?
The feature should work exactly the same way, but with the changed security model, perhaps there are some special issues.

  • How do I keep the website's icon when creating a desktop shortcut as opposed to the firefox logo?

When I click a website's icon in the address bar in Firefox and drag it to my desktop to create a shortcut to said site, the shortcut is created with Firefox's icon. I want to know how to keep the site specific icon when creating these shortcuts. I know that once the shortcut is created you can go into properties and choose from several generic icons but I don't want those cheesy icons. Can anyone help?

If you drag a link or favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create an internet shortcut then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.<br />
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).<br />
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".<br />

  • How do I prevent fullscreen to create its own space or how do I create a keyboard shortcut to such a fullscreen space

    Hello,
In Mountain Lion, I could select from the dock icon the Options -> Assign To -> This Desktop to link back a fullscreen app to one desktop which allowed me to have a direct shortcut to my fullscreen app, e.g. ⌘3. In Mavericks this does not work and I cannot find how to disable the new space for fullscreen app nor how to create a keyboard shortcut for switch directly to that app once it's in fullscreen.
Any help would be much appreciated, I would hate to have to downgrade back to Mountain Lion.
    Cheers,

The most typical solution for enterprise sites is to store their users credentials in an LDAP store such as Oracle Internet Directory (OID) or MS Active Directory. LDAP is an industry standard for extremely fast directory services over IP network infrastructure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_Directory_Access_Protocol).
In turn some sites store their user credentials in databases tables. Of course databases can be configured for fast lookups too, but it is a database centric solution where LDAP is designed to work across networks and is ideal for servers as a result which live and breath on the network.
In case of Java EE applications and especially those written in ADF, the use of these services isn't written into the application, but rather the application delegates this responsibility of configuring and providing these services back to the Java EE server. So for example Edwin's post is about configuring a WLS "security provider" to lookup user's info from the database, and here is another blog I wrote for MS Active Directory a while back (http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com.au/2008/12/configuring-wls-with-ms-active.html). The main advantage here is you don't have every application baking its own solution, rather WLS provides a standard well tested way to configure the security lookups.
In terms of writing (i.e. creating users) to the security store over reading from it, indeed you need to build your own code. Ramandeep Singh Nanda has a nice post on doing this with OID through Oracle's OPSS: http://ramannanda.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/opss-adf-security-utility.html
Finally what sites like Amazon and Facebook do aren't necessarily good examples to follow as they're application's requirements are typically far in excess of a typical enterprise site, and in turn have often written bespoke solutions to deal with their scalability and distribution requirements. I dare say LDAP is a good choice for 99% of enterprises.

  • How can I create a keyboard shortcut to export to pdf in Pages for Mac

Can anyone explain how to create a keyboard shortcut that works in pages?

Reluctant as I am to contradict Viking OS X, yes it is possible.
This is for Yosemite, it is slightly different in other versions of OS X.
Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts > + > Applications > Pages > Menu Title: PDF… > Keyboard Shortcut > hold down whatever combination you want > Add
As Viking says this won't choose Good, Better, Best but at least it gets you to that point. Unfortunately it always defaults to Good.
NB that PDF… has to be typed with ALL CAPS and the ellipsis is option ; or copy from here. It has to be literally what is in the menu.
You could make a more intelligent keyboard shortcut with 3rd party Apps like Spark [free] or QuicKeys or iKey or Shortcuts for Mac or Keyboard Maestro.
