How do I cut bits out of iMovie, How do I cut bits out of iMovie?

Want to make a video and cut out some little bits of it.
Any ideas?

It looks like you have iMovie 08. Here is a good Tutorial for iMovie 08.
http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#trimming
Here is a more complete answer. Portions of it will work in iMovie 08, but it has been a long time since I used iMovie 08, so I am not sure.
There are many ways to do this.
1) If you are dealing with Event clips, you can select just the portion you need, by dragging. A yellow border will be around this portion. Drag this to your project.
2) If the long clip is already in your project, it is even easier. You can select the portion you want to keep, by dragging. A yellow border will be around it. Then right-click within the yellow border and select "Trim to Selection".
3) Another way. If the long clip is already in your project, select the portion that you want to edit out, by dragging. A yellow border should be around the portion you want to edit out. Right-click within the yellow border and select "Delete Selection".
4) You can also do 2 and 3 through the EDIT menu rather than with a right click.
Note: If you do not have your two button mouse enabled in System Preferences, you can right click by holding down the control key as you click. For a Magic Trackpad, it is a two finger click.

I'm using Lion on an MBP and Numbers is the latest version

May you give more details about what is wrong with your dates ?
M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.

How to find out if I am using a 32 bits or 64 bits version of JRE?
If I have 2 instances of Java installed in 2 seperate directories, one 32 bits and other 64 bits on Linux. How do I identify which directory holds which version?
Is there any command that can output this info?
    Regards,

With a Sun JDK or JRE, you can use java -version:
    $ java -version
    java version "1.6.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b105)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.6.0-b105, mixed mode)
    ... switch to the 64-bit JDK ...
    $ java -version

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b105)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0-b105, mixed mode)
    The last line says "64-Bit."

I'm trying to make a slideshow in iMovie, but when I upload photos from my Aperture Library into the iMovie Photo Browser, some photos (305 out of 427) are missing. How do I get iMovie to upload all of them?

I have same problem. I could only see a fraction of my project photos if I browse the Aperture lbrary. It is the same problem when I sync the aperture photos to my iPhone or iPad. I still cannot solve it but I know a way to go around it for your iMovie to see the pictures so that you can work on your iMovie.
    Here is the work around:
Export the photos from your album to your hard disk and re-import into your iPhoto. Now you should be able to see those photos that you want to work on in iMovie when you browse your iPhot library.

  • How do I find out if my computer is running 64-bit?

Hello,I am looking to buy one of 2 cameras, one is a Nikon D3200 the other a Canon EOS 1100D My computer is windows XP pro.How do I find if it is service pack 3?
in the manual for the camera there is the following message
This application is not compatible with computers running 64-bit Windows XP.how do I find out if my computer is running 64-bit.thanks
    Whittonwanderer

    Hello there,
If you right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties", you will be able to see if you are on Service Pack 3, and if it is 64 bit.  If it is 64 bit, it should specify where it says windows XP.
Most likely, your computer is 32 bit, as the majority of home computers bought with Windows XP on them were 32 bit.
Hope your camera's work out well for you.

  • How can I find out if the current CPU is 32-bit or 64-bit?

I am developing a program that calls an external c++ executable with a certain parameter. With certain parameters, the executable often takes up large amounts of memory (<4GB). This is bad as I am often running this program on a 32-bit machine.
I am compiling this program on a 32-bit machine and running it (sometimes) on a 64-bit machine.
I need a way to find out if I have a 32 or 64 bit CPU. I can't solve the problem of it crashing with these parameters, however I can avoid calling the executable for these specific parameters when I am on a 32 bit machine.
As far as I know, System.getProperty("sun.arch.data.model") will return the size of your java Virtual Machine, but I need to know the size of the CPU
So basically, to sum it up:
I need a way of finding out what the size of the runtime machine is. (32-bit or 64-bit)
    Thank you in advance!

  • How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?

How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?  I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container.  You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

I cannot access Content Library in iMovie - Content Library doesn't show on the iMovie screen and is greyed out when accessed through "windows" tab at the top. Also unable to update the projects/events (a suggested solution for a similar question). I haven't had this issue before, I have always used the content library on the screen but haven't used this for about a month. How can I make the Content Library available?

Thanks so much! I am backing up the entire computer now with an external hard drive - this should be fine right? And surely if I am backing up the whole computer these projects/videos will be backed up too? I wasn't sure how to do this any other way and I am clearly not great with tech issues. Once this is done and I am sure my projects/videos are safe I will do the delete and reinstall bit. Thanks for taking the time to help

  • How can I export a file that may use in Final Cut Pro?

    Hello friends,
May I know how to export a file that I can use it Final Cut Pro???

If you are talking about rendering then just use any production codec that FCP supports. You have access to them all. Use the Render Cue or create a custom preset in the Adobe Media Encoder.
If you want to do something like dynamic link with FCP, that does not exist. You can save a PPro project as a FCP XML but any PPro effects or PPro settings unique to PPro will not come across. If you turn an After Effects project into a FCP project by going through PPro as was suggested then you will NOT get any of the effects you applied to your composition or any of the animation or anything but the footage In and Out points, opacity, rotation and position because that is all that will be moved into PPro because After Effects plug-ins are not compatible with PPro. If there is a dynamic link to an AE project in your PPro project that will not move to FCP at all. You'll get nothing.
So the long and short of it is if you want the work that you have done in AE to show up in FCP you must render the project. I use ProRez 444 10 bit for any work I do on FCP. You can make a custom Output Module preset to help speed up the workflow.
If you are new to AE please read this on rendering: After Effects Help | Basics of rendering and exporting
If you are really new please go through these three tutorials: Basic Workflow

  • Using iMovie footage in FCP: 32-bit floating point audio?

I'd like to use iMovie 7 to capture my DV footage because I like its cataloging and skimming features, and the way it splits up clips based on DV stops. I want to do my editing in Final Cut Pro 5. Unfortunately, I've found that the audio depth in the clips I've captured with iMovie is 32-bit floating point, rather than 16-bit integer, and FCP has to render the audio before it can play back. Strange, since the FCP browser says that the sequence I dropped the iMovie footage into IS 32-bit. Any ideas on how to get FCP to playback this bit depth without rendering, and without having to convert my footage?

Do a search here and you will find all kinds of post on this very subject.
The main problems with using iMove to capture for FCP are
    1. iMovie and FCP capture in very different ways. iMovie captures footage as a DV stream, problematic for editing in FCP
    2. iMovie captures will not give you the timecode from your tape... may or may not be important to you unless you ever need to recapture and reconnect the footage.
In short, if you are editing in FCP... capture with FCP. If you want to split the footage based on tape start/stop, use the Start Stop detect function after you have captured.

  • Importing imovie project into Final Cut Pro

Hello I need help getting my HD imovie project into final cut pro. I recored the project in 24p and it's already imported into imovie. What is the best way to get it into Final Cut Pro so that I can edit it further without sacrificing the quality.
Another problem is that I have heard that imovie compresses the video and totally ruins the quality. Is this true? And is this reversible in any way? I have already recorded over all the clips for this project on my camcorder. How screwed am I?
    -Michael

First thing to do is find your original clips that you captured in IMovie. I don't have much experience in IMovie, but see if you can select a clip and control click and choose reveal in finder. If that works, open one of these clips in quicktime player and hit command-i and let us know the format of the clip.
Kind of doubt you'll be able to actually import your project into fcp, but you should be able to recreate it in fcp without too much difficulty.
Let us know what camera you shot and captured from. That may be of some help.
Hopefully someone with more experience in IMovie will speak up, but hopefully this will get us started.

  • How do I show multiple rollover images on a page inserted dynamically (pulled out of a sql database

How do I show multiple rollover images on a page inserted dynamically (pulled out of a sql database table) using Dreamweaver’s Repeat Region. Example: I have different products each one associated (through their productID) with two images (one that’s showing in the page and one for the rollover effect) that are pulled from a database using Dreamweaver’s Recordset. So I want to end up with a page containing row after row of images(one for every product). When moused over each image will reveal the second (rollover) image for the same product which in turn can be a link(the image itself ) that when clicked leads to a detailed page with more information about the product the image is associated with. To show row after row with images for the different products in the database table I am using Dreamweaver’s Insert Rollover Image command and then the  Repeat Region – I have no problem to complete the steps, to insert the image and the rollover one at once and set the paths so they are pulled dynamically depending on the productID they are associated with .I have also no problem to apply the Repeat Region so not only the first image associated with the first product in the table is shown but all of them-a routine and standard procedure when using the Repeat Region to dynamically generate and display multiple rows of data. However, when I preview the page the rollover effect is lost –the images are shown but when moused over the second  image does not  show. The problem is caused when the Repeat Region is applied-once again I am allowed to apply it but the rollover stops working, a kind of interference. ANY SOLLUTION PLEASE, ANY WORK AROUND.

I gotta tell you, using multiple images for rollover effects is going to be a big challenge in your dynamic scenario.
If this were my product page, I would use thumbnails with a bit of CSS opacity or filters to desaturate and make them full opacity/color on mouse over.  Nice effect with much less bandwidth. Easily done globally with CSS code.

  • How Can I Make Encore Create a Bluray Image that uses a Bit Rate that Really Fills The Disc?

I have searched and browsed but have not seen this specific issue.
I realize that if you leave the bit rate alone, Encore will use the best bitrate. In my experience, it doesnt. I have also found that the Disc Info on the Build tab is never correct. The final transcoded size of the ISO is always very different from what is shown.
With the current disc I am making, I am encoding 4 HD m2t video files that total 20 GB on disk. The total running time is about 1hr 50m. Leaving everything set to defaults, the final size of the ISO file is 12 GB. I would like the final size to be around 20GB. I would expect that Encore would do this automatically. Changing bitrate in the project settings and re-transcoding does not change the final size. If I manually set the encoding, the size does change but since the Disc Info is unusable, it is excruciating trial and error. You have to pick settings that you think will work, wait hours for it to transcode, then it is way to big or way to small. I cant figure out how to get it to my target size.
Also, when I transcode the files, Encore never lists the bit rates of the transcoded files. The field is always blank.
It may also be note worthy that I have to first transcode the files, then build the disc. If I dont do that, the transcoding will hang. Even when I do separate the steps, sometimes when I build the disc from the transcoded files, the build of the disc still hangs.
I am running a 3 GHz Quad CPU with 4 GB of Ram in 32 bit XP Pro. I have 5 physical drives of 500 GB each. I also use separate physical drives for the source files vs the target ISO. Disk space is not an issue.
Also, is there any timeframe for when Adobe is going to release a new update? I have also run into other problems on this forum like the wonderful error 6 and the hanging transcoding, although my solutions to both problems were different than what was posted. It is all hit or miss.
Does anyone know if Adobe going to add a feature like on other disc authoring programs where you click a Fit to disc button and it then calculates the best bit rate for the specified disc size? That would make me very happy.
I would appreciate any help here.

Encore does have a fit-to-disc feature, called "automatic transcoding", which chooses the bit rate based upon how much media there is to encode, how much room is currently on the disc, and applying format-legal restrictions (minimum and maximum bit rates allowable by the format).
So for instance, 30 minutes of video will never fill a disc because the required bit rate to do so would be higher than allowable by the format.

After burning a successful DVD in iDVD out of FCPX, how can I see the settings it used?
So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.
