How do I find out info about my G4, where  bought it, cost etc

I need information about my G4. I bought it new some years ago but have no longer got the records of my purchase. Where can I find out those details please? The store was in Penrith, but not an Apple store as such. Even the name of the business would be helpful. Thanks.

You could check the location of the business against the Apple - Find Locations
database through Apple Support, to see if any existing independent authorized
Apple resellers appear familiar to you.
Australia
Find Apple Locations for: Sales, Service, Training, Certification, & Consulting.
Enter the city name to help locate nearest authorized Apple business locations.
The above flag icon and country name should be an active link to this URL:

An example of the output the above may provide, is in this link from the Service
location (click on one of four boxes, and add city name, if not a nearby location)
to see a map of the vicinity; in this case authorized Service in Penrith, Australia:

There are approximately 23 Apple authorized Service locations near Penrith
New South Wales, Australia; to see an other list of possible choices, look in
to the Sales section from the locate link for Australia, instead Service. Some
of the 99 authorized Sales locations also offer specialists, & other experts...

In the course of a decade, business names can change or no longer exist; so
even if you did recollect a name that was an authorized Apple reseller, or one
who also provided service, or other support, they'd not have kept records of
each individual sale to now, since that time.
If you kept the original computer carton, those sometimes had the address
and name of the reseller, along with shipping information, on the outside.
Any original receipts, warranty, or bank payment records from the time, you
may have set aside from the purchase, are where you'd find details you ask.
The reason for needing to know the detailed information about the computer,
if explained, may be an easier way to go. What technical or product question
do you have a need to know, at this late a date? Some online databases are
still available, but not ones specific to your singular purchase; even if it were
registered with Apple when new, under warranty considerations at the time.
If you registered the computer with Apple for warranty or AppleCare consideration
at the time of purchase, that in itself would not be enough to pinpoint the store
you bought it from. The Apple Support section may give you minimal info on a
list of former purchases that were sold to you, going back several years, online.
Hopefully you have some researchable technical questions that someone here
in these user-to-user (or peer-based) discussions, can help you with; since the
product is vintage or obsolete, as the trail is quite cold on tracking the item now.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do you find out more about an App (needs login?, wi-fi?)

Sometimes I purchase an app then find out that I can't use it without creating an account or that it needs an internet connection. Is there any way of knowing ahead of time which apps need what? I thought that, that would be a standard, but it isn't.

The need for an account (for a particular App) or the need for a particular App to connect to the internet is dependent upon the App itself and the person who wrote it. Each App is written by "a bloke (or girl) in his or her bedroom", or an independent company, not by Apple.
To determine whether an App requires either of these things, you need to research the App a bit more. In the App Store, each App should have a description (and you may need to click ther more button to see all of it) and also should have a "Support page" link. The support page should take you to the App developer's website, where I would hope to see all the information I need. But it isn't always like that.
So it's down to you to understand what the App will do, what it needs in order for you to get the best from it and to do your own research to find all that out. There have been Apps I haven't bought because I haven't been able to get enough information about it. That's life, unfortunately.

  • How can I find out info on a possible mobile internet outage?

I have a verizon MIFI 2200 mobile internet device. I have had internet connection issues with it since yesterday (Sunday afternoon).  Desktop computer, IPOD touch, & my laptop all show that they are connected to the mifi.  Internet signal strength is good, shows at least 3 bars.  But we cannot connect to the internet, the page will not load.  Called tech support yesterday.  They ran all basic diagnostics on my laptop settings, and no problems were found.  One support guy said that he saw "tickets" on outage issues, but he could not see where those issues were.
After 2 hrs on the phone with tech support and finding no solution, we went to the Verizon store.  We decided to go ahead & upgrade to a jetpack mobile device since our unit is 2 yrs old.  While the sales lady was setting up our new unit, she also had the same connection problem.  We also heard other customers in the background with the similar issue.  I can't find out any other info on this.  Nobody seems to know that there is an outage problem, BUT THERE IS AN OUTAGE PROBLEM!  Can someone please help me?  All I want to know is, "Is there an outage problem with Mobile internet/over the air (satellite) in the middle Tenneessee area & when will it be fixed?"

Yes, there is an issue.  Like you, I've had issues and finally (after 2 tries) got through (after a ridiculous wait time) to tech support.  They said that there is a mobile data outage resulting from the storms this past weekend.
As typical, Verizon has balked at being more proactive and providing outage notifications but instead would prefer to frustrate customers by forcing them to call in, consuming ridiculous amounts of support representative time, and further lowering customer satisfaction.
Verizon remains a "bi-polar" organization, with some great technology (albeit also with some very poor stuff as well such as the infamous 4150L) but with some of the absolute worst customer service that has ever existed on this planet.

  • How can I find out more about books in the iBooks store?

I've got iBooks for my iPod Touch and it works well. However when I search for stuff in the iBook Store, there is very little information apart from the title and author of a work. For example if it's a translation of a well-known book (think Tolstoy, Homer, Dumas), then probably there will be several different translations available, but iBooks store doesn't tell me which one it is offering; indeed sometimes more than one version is offered with no info about the difference between the versions. Is there any way of searching for more info on books in the store? After all, someone must have compiled the list.

I always do the tapping, and this never tells me the kind of thing I was querying. However I have to admit the samples (which I haven't often used) do often seem to do the trick - I just sampled a few books, and since they all had title pages included in the sample, I got what I wanted from there. What they reveal about classics like Anna Karenina or The Odyssey is that the translations are often very old (frequently 19th Century) and therefore in the public domain. Nice because free, but I would not normally want to go back that far, so I guess iBooks is not the place to look for modern editions of classics?
Anyway to be fair you have answered my question - but I would love iBooks to give access to better review material (not just user reviews that may or may not exist, but something more like Amazon's system): and really I would like them to have a lot more books from different periods (again like Amazon, or a really good bookshop). But I guess I'm not exactly iBooks' target audience.

  • HT5071 when a user buys my ibook in iTunes store, how can I find out more about the user, state purchased in, email it downloaded to, etc ?

when a purchaser reads my email message in mailchimp, I am provided with the user details, email address used, state located in, etc.....why can't I get the same information from Apple iTunes when a purchaser downloads a paid copy of my iBook from the Itunes bookstore.?????  in order to complete the download of a purchased iBook, that information is gathered by Apple, but is not provided to the iBook author.....any solutions out there...

All Apple will give you are sales counts and other such general information. Personal information about individual purchases will not be available to you.
    Regards.

  • How can I find out the form of a textFrame?

    Hey guys,
so when using "constructor.name" you can get the type of an object. In this case "textFrame". But how do you find out, if the textFrame is a polygon, an ellipse, etc?
Sorry if this is something basic, but I can't find any resources to this.
    Thank you

Oh. I forgot one single line of code.
Before assigning a new contenType you have to empty the text frame:
    app.selection[0].constructor.name;
    var myDup = app.selection[0].duplicate();
    //Assign empty string as contents:
    myDup.parentStory.texts[0].contents = "";
    myDup.contentType = ContentType.GRAPHIC_TYPE;
    myDup.getElements()[0].constructor.name;

  • My users folder has 140GB used on it, but I cannot find where it is getting that calculation. I went through all of my folders and opened them all in an info panel, and they all come out to about 30GBs. Where is the rest of the data? -Using Mountain Lion

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then drag or copy — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Press return. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • I have a new 16g nano and I have only added about 600 songs and I only have less than a gig left of space.  It says I have used over 9G of other.  I have no movies, pictures, tv shows or anything else on it.  How do I find out what the "other" is?

I have a new 16g nano.  I have only added about 600 songs so far.  It is telling me that I 4.47G of songs and 9.92G of other and only 3.297MB of space left.  I have no tvshows, no movies, no pictures on the Ipod.  How do I find out what the "other" is and get rid of it?

You most likely have some corrupted files in other. Restore it and resync.

  • When I go to About This Mac and click on Storage it shows 421.93GB as Other. This only leaves 46.85GB of 499.25GB free. How do I find out what this "Other" is so I can remove the stuff I don't need?

What kind of use do you make of your MBP?  A lot of photo or video?  If so, you may be storing a lot of large files.  Look at Finder and see what the file system looks like.  Do you have large libraries of data files associated with applications?
You may want to think about an external hard drive to use for backups and data storage, you can point applications to the external drive as the default storage location.
A good source of external drives at a reasonable price is the Mac specialist, OWC, http://www.macsales.com
I bought their Mercury Elite Pro 2 TB dirve last September and set it up to use part for Time Machine backup and part for other work space.  Setup with Disk utility into two partitions is very quick and easy.  Just remember to format as Extended Journaled with GUID partition table.  Setting the partition sizes is by using a braphical image on screen in DU so it is like falling off a log, so easy.

  • How do I find out what "Other" is, in the "About this Mac", storage details bar graph?

My new Mac Book Pro with 250 GB Flash Storage is already full with only adding a few apps. I purchased the new Final Cut Pro X, but store all video data on an external drive. Whats up? Why is 146 GB used up with "Other"? What is "Other!?" How can I find out the details of what's in other, and get rid of what I don't want or use?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • HT4811 I have tried to find out more about recent virus hitting apple computers through 'adobe' downloading. can anyone help me how to find out if my Mac is infected ?

How do I find out if FileVault is enabled ?

To answer your subject line, see About the Flashback malware.  (Note that my pages contain links to other pages that promote my services, and this should not be taken as an endorsement of my services by Apple.)
I'm not sure what that has to do with FileVault, but to answer that question, go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> FileVault.
