How do I find songs that i have purchased through iTunes that suddenly dont show up in my iTunes

i recently noticed that songs that i have purchased through itunes from about a year ago are no where to be found on my device or in my itunes library. can anyone help me i am leaving for a trip in a few days and would really like to find these songs. thanks a bunch!!

it doesnt show up in my purchased playlist either. i just noticed also it looks like all the songs i bought from 2010 are not in there but 2009 and 2011 are there. also earlier i looked under purchased history and the songs i am looking for showed up in there.

Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.

If you've bought them directly on your phone then they should be in the Music app - when you have audiobooks on a device you will get an Audiobooks option under the More button at the bottom of the Music app.
Note that audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store (so they won't appear in the Purchased tab for re-downloading, so the HT2519 page that you posted won't apply), so you may want to copy it to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take a backup copy of it - it should copy over to the Books part of your iTunes library.

What settings do you have in iTunes? Is it set to sync all music, it is set to sync only checked songs? Is there anything different about the songs that it is not syncing. Is it possible they were they purchased with a different Apple ID?

This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music. See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled. This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

Songs that I have purchased through iTunes on my iphone appear in my itunes on my laptop and show up in itunes on my phone but they will not play.

The songs show up on my itunes on my iphone4S but when I go to play them they just skip over to the next song.
I had to restore my phone and the last backup I did was corrupted and I had to use a back up from June, the songs that are being skipped over were purchased after then. But they are showing up on my itune on my laptop....
Any suggestions on how I can fix this would be awesome!

My iPad keeps telling me I need to manage my storage BUT I don't know how to. I have managed to use back up onto the iCloud, but it still tells me I have to manage my storage. How do I do this. iCloud doesn't backup the actual films, it backs up your purchase history:

You can only re download items if they are still available in the App Store.
Books can be downloaded again (it is audiobooks which are a once-only download).
Your best bet is to transfer all purchases to iTunes on your computer, before deleting items from iPad.

Unbelievable. I just played the movies on every laptop around our house but Apple TV won't. How can they even put their name behind a product like this?

Latley I have notices that movies in my Itunes library are "missing" from my apple TV's. I have checked under get info "type", checked show in windows explorer, but certain movies just are not in the purchased catagory on the apple tv.

Honestly not sure why it matters, if they are on the computer, play them via the Computers option on the ATV to avoid streaming them over the Internet.

Uhhh, not sure I understand the question but you can shoe only the music that is in your iDevice by going to settings > music and setting "show all music" to OFF.

The article iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads will teach you how to locate your purchase. If you can not locate them, you can still redownload your purchases. Follow the steps in outlined in Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

I downloaded a ringtone from iTunes. It was not a song, it was listed as a ringtone. It is now in my iPod on iTunes, but it is not available to select as a ringtone. Only the default ringtones that came with the phone are available to select. How do I select the ringtone that I purchased, please?

I've tried both methods. I once purchased a ringtone on my laptop, and was not able to get it onto my phone. I saw the folder on my laptop, but it didn't transfer the ringtone to my phone.
I thought I could purchase a ringtone from iTunes directly on my iPhone, but it didn't work. The ringtone I bought IS there in the More folder under the Download folder, but all I can do is play it and hear it. I can't choose it to be the default ringtone for my phone, or assign it to a particular caller. If there's a menu or a trick to selecting it, I can't see it. But thanks for the suggestion!
