How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox? I have exported the Firefox bookmarks from my old PC into a [Windows 8] folder on my new PC.
When I use the Firefox import facility, it will only import one bookmark at a time - and then it bookmarks all the main pages on the bookmarked website, not just the one which I originally bookmarked. It also does not import the information stored in the bookmark tag.

Had to reload foxfire onto Mactintosh and need to import the bookmarks on FireFox on my other MActintosh.

Found the easiest way was to to use the Firefox Export function to create a Bookamrks.html by going to Firefox bookmarks and select Show All Bookmarks and select Export Bookmarks from the Library window. Then use a Flashdrive and take to the other computer and drop it on the Target computer Desktop there. Go to Firefox bookmarks and select Show All Bookmarks on target computer and select Import Bookmarks html from the Library window. Your bookmarks are now on the target computer

Used Firefox as my browser. Used a cleaner program. On restart, Windows 7 would not boot fully. System Restore to before installing the cleaner program didn't work.
Used HP backup facility to create back of all files, etc. on my C: drive on an external drive. Used another HP facility to reinstall Windows 7, etc. as if computer just arrived the factory. Moved backed up files to C: drive in a Recovery directory.
Installed Firefox 5.0.1. Can't find and import the Bookmarks, passwords, cookies, etc. that should be in saved Recovery directory. Searched "bookmarks" in Windows 7 facility of my C: - got no results.
How to I find and import my old/saved bookmarks, etc. to new Firefox install?

How do you restore Firefox Bookmarks after an OS overlay for Windows2000?

Second time system has been crashed by power interruption. First time, the OS overlay "fix" solved the problem and everything was still there regarding bookmarks when the Firefox browser was reinstalled. This time, the OS overlay looks like it swiped everything on Firefox. The folders are still on the hard drive but now I have a Firefox and a Firefox II folders but only one active profile that matches what the articles say I would find. The one "places. sqlite" file I can see from troubleshooting is 10 MB big...that's got to be the old bookmarks, so how do I make it active in this latest copy of Firefox that had to be re-installed again from the actual Mozilla website?

I'm not certain what it was as it wasn't really a system restore nor was it a legitimate reformatting process. It seemed to delete everything except emergency backing up of some files that I was allowed to select. I could see the file names and locations but while halfway, I accidentally started the process halfway and it started the process. I could've turned it off but I knew better than to turn off a computer in a vulnerable state. Better to get some data and limit the mistakes.
It wasn't really a recovery, the computer was going into the blue screen and wouldn't boot into the start up menus, etc so I'm lucky that I was able to salvage most of the files with the built in emergency backup. I'm lucky because the last time I had another computer that died and I couldn't salvage a single file and there were thousands of files and bookmarks on it!
A good lesson learned, always backup and be ready to expect the unexpected! I tried the recuva program and it wasn't that thorough and I couldn't find my files. Thanks!

Even on 64-bit Windows, Firefox is a 32-bit application, so your data will be usable. It is easier if the version is the same on both (e.g., Firefox 3.6 to 3.6, Firefox 5 to 5).

I have years worth of favorite web pages stored in several bookmark folders, but i no longer want them there anymore, and i want to place them directly into my history.
Is there a way to do this without opening up every single webpage? Opening all tabs will undoubtedly freeze my Firefox indefinitely, there must be another way around this?

Hi CuriousMew, I don't know of any method to do that, but you could just let it open all in tabs over night and when you come back all will be listed in the history. Virtual memory will make sure that you don't run out of memory, unless you have tens of thousands of bookmarks.
However: you should consider that the history is only kept for a limited time, and any page not bookmarked or visited during that time will be lost.

I want to do the second one - "add the bookmarks from the desktop to those that already exist on the other computer"
The problem is that my Firefox is version 4.0. I read somewhere in the bookmarks topics that I should have done nothing before upgrading to version higher than 12.
The thing is my computer is 8 years old and I have only 512 MB RAM. There is no way to upgrade more that v.4.0. My computer can not handle it.
Any suggestions? Can I export and import with v.4.0 safely?

You would have to export the bookmarks to an HTML file on the old (XP) computer.
*Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML
Then you can copy this file to an USB stick and import this file in Firefox on the other computer. 
Importing an HTML backup will merge those bookmarks with already existing bookmarks.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Open Directory)

Microsoft told me my stuff was compatible when I checked before upgrading. All of my bookmarks and most of my desktop are gone. Not to mention most of my programs such as Office !

If you don't see it there, you can try the below steps: 
1. Make sure you can see hidden files/folders - In Explorer in Windows 8 click on view, then make sure 'Hidden Items' is ticked
2. Go go to:
C:\Windows.old\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxx.default\bookmarkbackups 
(x's are random characters)
3. Copy the most recent .json file to your desktop
4. Open Firefox then open the bookmarks library (CTRL key + SHIFT key + B '''or''' Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks
5. Click on Import and Backup, then restore, then 'choose file'. Identify the .json file on your desktop.

I have, on my HP laptop, running XP Pro, using Firefox 4.0, went under bookmarks to show all bookmarks. A window opens up that says library. I then go to import and back up, and I choose export HTML. I then move this file over to my new Mac Pro. On my Mac Pro I also have Firefox 4.0. I go up under bookmarks, show all bookmarks, import HTML. It lets me browse and I find the file on the desktop, I select it then nothing happens. I am not interested in using Safari. I would like to continue using Firefox. However, as an experiment, I followed the same process except on my Apple computer I opened up Safari and tried to import in the Firefox bookmarks. It came up with an error saying the file could not be accessed. I then thought perhaps the file got corrupted, so I went back to my Windows Firefox and re-exported the bookmarks again. Same problem. So, am I creating the bookmarks incorrectly on my Windows machine?

Probably your Mac cannot understand the Windows html format, please try the following to see if it helps:
In your PC, export the bookmarks in html as you did in your post. After you have saved it, change the name of the file to “bookmarks.html” and save it again.
In your Mac, import the saved file as you posted.

If you have JSON backups then easiest is to have two profiles open at the same time by using the -no-remote switch to open a second instance with its own profile. 
Then you can restore the JSON backups in one profile and copy and paste the bookmarks to the Library of the other profile.
