How do I freeze panes in numbers

Please help!

FYI   I was looking for information in these old posts on the Freeze function in Numbers.
After looking through numerous posts and finally talking with an Apple Tech, we found that the freeze function was not in Number 08, but added in Number 09.   We were both surprised that this basic and very usefull spreadsheet function was missing from 08
With this function you can lock/freeze the top row and/or column so as you scroll through the spreadsheet, you can see you first row or column while looking at the data in the middle of the  spreadsheet.
I am not an Apple representative, but the only way to fix this and other flaws in Number 08 is to upgrade to 09 for $19.99.   Hope this helps.

  • How can I freeze (lock) my Spread Sheet layout in Numbers?

How can I freeze (lock) my Spread Sheet layout in Numbers?
I have problems with Numbers changing my Spread Sheet layout
by adding extra Rows while I am not looking, or while I engage in dragging its pages with the mouse to see info on adjacent pages.
The layout I use consists of a Spread Sheet containing 4 "print" pages, ea.  8.5" x 11" wide, with a total of 36 Rows and 28 Columns.
The SS is filled with new cell values daily, but the formulas stay mostly the same. The print pages are visible on the computer screen side by side, and each Row extends over these 4 pages.
It happens sometimes that I have to change a formula while making entries on a cell in "page 4", and then need to "accept"
the new entry and formula "aaalll" the way on the very left of "page 1".  So here I try to scroll left or drag the present view
with the mouse.  I also have to use the "Zoom" at 150 % because I cannot see well on my MacBook Air, everything is rather small.
I suspect that during dragging with the mouse I drag cells or rows without knowing, and that this will add extra Rows derailing some formulas or values because a cell is suddenly in a different Row.
It is difficult to find which Row was added and what values where thus changed.  One just sees 38 rows instead of the orihinal 36!  The only way is to move all the cell values out of rows 37 and 38, and find where theey used to be on the previous day's saved locked sheet.   Needless to say that when that happens twice in a days work, it means a lot of lost time.
I have checked the Numbers Manual and searched Help Info for ways to lock an established cell layout and could noy find anything.
I cannot believe it, maybe I missed something.  I worked for about 35 years with Clarisworks and Appleworks Spread Sheets and never had the same problem, layouts were locked by design, and could only be changed by special procedures.
Now is there a way to freeze or lock the basic layout of a spread sheet in Numbers?
I appreciate your help.   (Numbers 2.3, Mac OS 10.8.5. MacBook Air)

    Hi Numbers22,
I guess I was just beating around the bush to avoid simply saying, "No, you cannot lock the layout." So there it is.
I am not sure why you are scrolling  to "accept" a formula. That is unclear. I guess you building a new formula and need to use a cell from an early column. It is also unclear to me as ot how you are actually adding extra rows. I haven't been able to do it on my machine without clicking the little arrow in the row number or using Option-↑ (or -↓). Option-↑  would add a row above the row you are in if they somehow got pressed. Do you have a program running that could be interpreting something your are doing for those keystrokes? If I was standing at your shoulder I might be able to see what is doing it.
What I am suggesting is that you play around with your trackpad settings so that you are not selecting and tapping in your table while you attempt to scroll. I do have one sheet with two tables side by side with a total of 425 columns and I can scroll past them without modifying them. So perhaps turning off tap to click in system preferences will help. If you have an option to decrease trackpad sensitivity then try that (I don't, but I remember having it somewhere in the past). If you are using a mouse see what you can do to decrease the sensitivity for a click. If your computer is old it could be that the trackpad is wearing out and throwing random clicks. You might try using another input device if you have one.

  • How do I "freeze" the top row

How do I freeze the top row so that I can see it even if I scroll down many cells?

    Hi Spacecoder,
Though the answer you received "is not a solution" there isn't a solution. It's a fact, freeze panes is not an option in Numbers. Everyone hopes in the next version it will be an option.
Your question is the most asked question for Numbers. As you were asked, send feedback to the Numbers team explaining how important it is to you to have this feature.
Also, prior to posting any question use first the forum search feature. You would have promptly found the answer to your freeze row/column question. Using Search you'll see thousands of other questions have been asked, their answers will provide direct solutions, tips, or workarounds.
Use the regular Apple Support as well; http://www.apple.com/search/support/. In Numbers click Help > Numbers user guide, it will take you here: http://www.apple.com/support/iwork/
As Yvan stated we're endusers as yourself not Apple employees.
Again, welcome to Numbers Discussions, have fun here.

  • What's equivalent to "Freeze Panes" in Excel?

I've used Excel for years at work. Now I've not Numbers at home. I can't figure out how to "freeze panes" so, as I scroll down a page, the header row stays visible. Help?

While Freeze Panes does not exist, Jason over on www.numberstemplates.com
    came up with this solution:
    http://www.numberstemplates.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20
His demonstration consists of 3 tables. The third table is where the full spreadsheet exists. The second table is a "window" onto the third table. The first table is just two slider bars. As you slide the sliders, the second table adjusts what it is showing in the second table from the data in the third. This makes more sense once you try his example.
If you are just looking at data, his solution works very well. If you need the freeze panes so that you know what column to input the data into, well, keep hitting that "Provide Numbers Feedback" button. until it appears.

  • How do you freeze the tablix header row in an Excel export file in SSRS 2008?

So this is totally killing me.
I've found out how to make a tablix header row repeat on each page of a PDF export file in SSRS 2008 (which I won't even get started on because all I can say is that 2005 is way better), but I cannot figure out how to make a simple header row of a tablix
freeze in an Excel export file.  The tablix is right at the top of the body and spans the entire width of the design area.  How in the world do you get it to freeze in the Excel export file?

    Rashiki777,
From your information, I get that you want to freeze the tablix header when view the report in Excel. Please follows
    these steps:
     Click
    the header row
    Click
View menu on  top of the toolbar, then you will Freeze Panes
Select one kind of Freeze based on your requirement.
This link supplies the detailed steps
http://inpics.net/tutorials/excel2007/vis5.html If you have any concern, please feel free to ask.
    Of course,
you could utilize the list control to display a certain rows on one sheet, then every sheet in Excel will have one header, the steps are following:
Drag a list into report body, right-click
Details in Row Groups panel to select Group Properties….
    Click
Add button, then type in expression =ceiling(RowNumber(nothing)/25)
in the textbox Note: 25 is just 25 rows per page, you could reset this value based on your requirement.
Drag the table control into this list control.
If you want to display every page in every sheet, you could add a page break to the table control in the list.
    Best regards,

  • Freeze Panes Functionality

I am required to develop a report that has a large number of columns. For readability the first 3 columns must remain frozen during horizontal scrolling (much like excel freeze panes).
So far I have achieved this with two regions with different column sets from the same report displayed next to each other, This way I can make the right hand report region scroll (<div> tags in the Header & Footer of this region)while leaving the left hand report static.
This leaves me with a problem where I need to link the pagination of both report regions. I am trying to change the SQL on the right hand report to only return the records displayed in the right hand region, my SQL for the right region Looks something like this but does not work:
Select * from TABLE_NAME WHERE ID IN (:P3_LEFT_REGION)
I believe it is because I am trying to reference a region as a list which I cannot do or am doing wrong.
So my question is "Is there a better way to do this and how?"

wow, it would cost your company so much less if your users can just download into Excel and do the fancy stuff there.
Next they are going to ask you for more Excel-like functionality.

  • Can pp col headings act like freeze pane in excel

Hi.  We run 2012 enterprise.  Can co headings on my pivot table scroll as freeze pane does in regular excel?  How?

Hi, your Situation is as follow?:
You have a powerpivot model, and a pivot-table based on this PP data, created with Excel 2013
Now you want the Pivot-table columns to freeze if you scroll down the Excel sheet?
IMHO you can't do this because Excel has no Feature to freeze Pivot-table column, but can freeze columns of Excel table objects
You can get PP data into a Excel table object by creating a DAX Query, see:
    http://www.sqlbi.com/articles/linkback-tables-in-powerpivot-for-excel-2013

  • Can you freeze cells in Numbers?

    Good evening,
As a Numbers user, having switched from Excel, is there any way in Numbers to do a "freeze panes" functionality like Excel has? I want to navigate around a sheet with out having the header row and first column moving. I have looked all over and can not find it, am I just missing it?
Thank you very much for your assistance.
    Larry

Please, don't fight each other for a vocabulary problem.
Re reading the original question I feel that the OP
    (1) used wrongly the 'freeze pane' formula
    (2) wrote "with out having the header row and first column moving." to mean what we describe by " without having the header row and header column moving".
I am accustomed to wrong wording in questions

Desk top how can I freeze a photo

Additionally, please be aware that unless that photo is at least the size of your desktop (in pixels), you will most likely get a fuzzy and/or pixelated image. It is easy to make pictures smaller, but making them larger will mostly end up with a not-so-perfect result. So, you should check your desktop size (Displays Pane in Sustem Preferences, then check which resolution is highlighted - that is your desktop size in pixels. Now check your photo to make sure it is the same size, or almost as large or larger.

  • Review comments completely hidden by freeze panes in VBA Excel

    Hello
I have a worksheet with review comments attached to the cell during run time. I use these
review comments like tool tips to explain the user that the field is a mandatory field and it must be entered .
I also used the Freeze Panes feature to keep the left side columns say (4 columns)  visible
as the worksheet is scrolled horizontally. However, the review comments are visible when it is not scrolled but they are hidden under the frozen pane when the worksheet is scrolled horizontally.
The review comment that overlaps the boundary is no longer visible when scrolled completely.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Please suggest
    Thanks and Regards
    Kamal
    Kamal

    Hello Zhang
Thanks very much for your response and suggestions
I have tried increasing the width of the column D but still the review comments are getting hidden under the frozen panes. Dragging of comment window is not possible as these review comments are attached to the cell at run time.
Trying the data validation technique will not be a better choice. The reason is i am validating all the fields present in all the rows at once in a single button click  . Correct me if i am wrong...The reason is if the user doesn't enter the
value for this column for at least (say 10 rows) then it might fire the validation pop up ten times. This will make the user to clear the validation pop ups first and then enter the values for all the left rows. If i add review comments then it will just add
a red mark at the top right corner of the cell along with the review comments which will help the user to understand that it is a mandatory field.
So, Please suggest a solution regarding how to handle the case related to the review comments that overlaps the boundary is not longer visible when scrolled completely.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Freeze Panes functionality for Web

    Hello,
In Microsoft XL, we have freeze Panes functionality with which, columns and rows can be freezed. This is important in the situation where we have too many columns and when want to view last column, rows disappear and difficult to know which rows it is referring to.
Now coming to question, I have BW reports which I am displaying on web browser. Can we freeze the panes on Web browser? Is there some standard functionality to do the same? Do we have some standard script for the same.
    Please do suggest.
    Regards
    Pank

In BW 3.5 it is standard functionality using the properties of the TABLE Web Item namely...
<b>Number of data columns displayed at one time (BLOCK_SIZE_COLUMNS)
    Columns scrolled per step (BLOCK_STEP_SIZE_COLUMNS)</b>
Additionally the same is possible for setting the table size in rows...
<b>Number of data rows displayed at one time (BLOCK_SIZE)
    Rows scrolled per step (BLOCK_STEP_SIZE)</b>
for releases lower that BW 3.5
    lookup the how to document
<b>How to… Change Page Scrolling in a Web Table Item</b>
    Hope that helps!

  • Can one SPLIT or FREEZE PANES like one can in Excel?

In Excel one can SPLIT PANES or FREEZE PANES.
Is it possible to do anything similar to this in Numbers 08?
Or in any previous version of Numbers?

    Sheer,
No, we can not freeze or split panes. And, this is the first version of Numbers. Perhaps in a later version...
By the way, Pages does something very similar to Excel's Print Titles that you may find an acceptable substitute. See 'Using a Table Header Row or Column' in Numbers User Guide, page 69.

  • Excel freeze panes on WEB APPLICATIONS

    Hi Experts,
Does anybody know how to implement something like the "excel freeze panes functionality" (freeze columns headers on top of the pages) for web applications?
We are using BW 7.0 (SAP Netweaver 2004s BI).
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,

    Hi Raphael,
Did you check the Analysis Item Properties, you should be able to define how many Data Columns to be displayed, I dont have my system now but i think you can set a Web Property for this, or you can simply write javascript function for this
