How do I get rid of the "other" taking up my memory..?
I wrote about this question earlier and i received an answer stating that there will always be an other no matter how minimal. this is ok with me as long as its minimal. I already had to reset my phone because it was taking up more than 1gb and every time that I sync my phone again it keep becoming more and more space being taken up by this..does anyone know if there is a solution to atleast keeping it minimal..?
This is what you do to correct this problem.
Corrupt files have nothing to do with where you purchased them. Files can be corrupted from an incomplete sync or an interrupted sync.
Restoring is how you get the corrupt files corrected. Have you tried restore as new?
How much "Other" do you have? A GB or so is not uncommon or an indication of an issue.

I also created a smaller music folder on itunes to sync to but at present no music is selected for syncing due to the lack of available space.
i have 15Gb icloud account now also which is about half full.
Ive done a little research and heard similar tales but with much smaller other totals than this. Can you help?
i cant update my apps as i get a message saying i do not have enough available space.I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first. -
I just restored my iPhone so i could get rid of my other data but all it did was increase my other data by .5 gbs. How do i get rid of the "other data"?

How do I get rid of the "other" space on my macbook air?
I have 11" Macbook Air and mostly use it just for music and as a home computer and do not have a lot of documents or anything that take up a large portion of the storage. When I look at the storage though it has this "other" portion that takes up almost half of my storage. How can I get rid of the "other" space on my computer?

Bearing in mind that 'Other' consists of emails, contacts, appointments, data, document files, OSX and its libraries and more, I would be very careful what you delete. It is not just backup, it is your stuff. -

The "other" data on my iPhone 4 is currently taking up 4.5 gb of my 6.4 gb phone. As you can see I'm not very happy about this. "Other" is YOUR DATA. If you get rid of it you will lose your email messages and settings, all of your texts and iMessages, all of your system settings, etc.
"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:

Just got a Classic 160 and I love it EXCEPT for the fact that half the screen is taken up by a useless image. When you connected your iPod, click on the iPod in iTunes, click the music tab. there you got a list of playlists (most likely grayed out) and below there there should be something like "include music videos" (or something similiar. i'm not using the english version of iTunes, so the text could differ slightly. and right below that there should be an option "show covers on ipod" (again, the text could differ. but the meaning should be the same.) uncheck that and save it. if this option doesn't show: do you have the newest iTunes version?
