How do I get rid of Windows

Im really a noob at this.
I want to get rid of the Windows partition to free up space but I don't want to lose my applications in OS X because I dont have a lot of the install discs anymore. What Do I need to do to be able to take advantage of the space that Windows is controlling on my hard disk? Thanks

From your profile it appears that you are using Tiger as your operating system. You will not be able to run boot camp to merge the windows partition with the Tiger partition since boot camp has expired.
One work around is to boot up in Tiger and set the date back to some time in November 2007. Then run boot camp. Choose merge partion option and that will erase the windows partition and merge it back to the Tiger's partition without erasing Tiger and its contents.

  • How can I get rid of windows 8.1 in my new lenovo and get windows 7 put in?

How can I get rid of Windows 8.1 on my new Lenovo laptop and install Windows 7?

    Hi,
I'll assume your laptop was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1
    1. Start by copying all your personal folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Favourites, local databases,
hosts files, etc) into an external disk, DVD, tape, whatever.
    2. If I were you, I wouldn't use Windows 8.1 backup tool, I'm not sure Windows 7 Restore applet will be able
to read a Windows 8.1 backup.
    3. Check that you have all the necessary licenses, CDs and executables to reinstall your former Windows 7
applications, components, browsers, plugins, Java, .NET Frameworks, etc. Be aware that some applications require
to keep same hostname and/or same IP and/or or same local username (or all of them) as they were on the original
    Windows 7 machine.
    4. Check that you have your Windows 7 CD and license handy.
    5. Do you have a Windows 7 image backup of your laptop (prior to the Windows 8 upgrade)?
5.a Yes? Then restore that image and restore your personal folders on top. You might need to
install or reinstall some of the applications I mentioned on #3
5.b No? You'll have to format your laptop, install Windows 7 from scratch, create your local
user with administrative rights, install SP1, install necessary updates, reinstall all your
applications and finally restore your personal folders.

    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.

  • How do I get rid of Windows shares in Finder?

We're a little Mac group sharing an office with loads of PC users and a lot of them send out NETBIOS broadcasts which clutter up our Finder sidebars. Almost all of them seem to have file-shairng turned on...
Does anyone know if there's a way to reject incoming NETBIOS packets on a Leopard machine so that we only see our own OS X servers and not all their PCs?
I'd be really grateful if someone could offer a hint. We want nothing to do with that Windows stuff.
    Rgds, /Peter

I have no windows computers on my network at the moment so cannot test this but the common ports for windows sharing are
137 UDP Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) - -
    138 UDP NETBIOS Datagram Service
139 TCP Server Message Block (SMB)
    445 TCP Microsoft SMB Domain
You could block these ports in your macs firewall but this may prevent you from connecting to windows sharepoints.
If your not familiar with configuring IPFW to configure the firewall then I would suggest you have look at Waterroof

I have the iPhone 4, and yesterday I synced my photos onto iTunes, but now I have albums on my phone that cannot be deleted, and there is not an option to delete the items in the albums individually... How do I get rid of these unwanted albums? Using Windows 7.

If you used iTunes to get the photos on the phone, then use the same iTunes and uncheck the music you don't want and do another sync.

i get a pop-up window saying the current version of Safari does not support the community toolbar.  How do I get rid of this?

You need to uninstall the Community / Conduit toolbar add-on.
Locate the files in bold print and move them to the Trash. The first five are in your root   /Library
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/ScriptingAddtions (anything CTLoader realted)
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
The next one is in your Home folder.
    ~/Library/Application Support/Conduit
    When you're done, try Safari.

  • A pop up window saying Java Runtime Environment keeps coming up. How do I get rid of it?

How do i get rid of a pop up window that asks me to run Java Runtime Environment?

If you're referring to a Mac and not an iPad, then most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it, including its automatic update mechanism (if any) according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise, install Java.

After opening my yahoo mail window, I keep getting a very short and narrow dialogue box with the words "log into Xmarks" I cannot ... when it pops up, always upper left of my laptop screen and I try to get into my yahoo mail web page, I get a DING sound and cannot enter it ... everything is frozen. • How can I get rid of a vertical ad section in Yahoo games that has popped up on the right and takes 30% of the game window away. I can't get rid of it.

A few days ago, Yahoo decided to put up a vertical section on the right side of the game window that takes up 30% of the screen in the game. I have not been able to get rid of it.
I asked the Yahoo Customer Care rep and she said that it is not supposed to happen as the game should not be stopped by the ads and that I should try with another Browser. I tried it with Chrome and that ad section was not there with Chrome.
I was told that it was probably a browser issue and I did disable most of the add-ons and plug-ins but it did not work.
Any suggestions as to how I can get rid of that vertical ad section?

This problem is not a pop-up. First of all the problem did not start until Yahoo changed their set up for ads in Yahoo Games.
Once it did start, the ads do not "pop-up", it is a vertical bar that is there all the time. You cannot get rid of it.
By the same token, it is not a Yahoo Problem since the problem does not exist using another server.
Yahoo says it has to do with some add-ons or plug-ins in Firefox that is causing the problem.
As you can see by the screen picture, one third of the game screen has a vertical ad area. I want to get rid of it.

  • Pop up window saying my startup disc is full, I may need to delete files. How do I get rid of this?

I just got this pop-up window tonight. How do I get rid of this?

You need to, you know, delete things to create some free space on your disk.
That doesn't mean you have to discard any data:
If you have data you haven't looked at in a long time and aren't likely to need regularly, you can burn it to CD or DVD or some other storage media and then delete it from your internal hard drive. You can still access it when needed, but it won't be taking up space on your hard drive.
A better but more expensive option is to purchase an external hard drive (as large as you can afford, with a FireWire-800 interface for best performance) and move as much as you can onto it. Your entire iTunes library is often a good choice as it tends to be full of movies, TV shows, and music videos which - together - tend to add up to a lot of disk space. The only downside is that you will be able to access that media only when you have the external drive attached, but if you spend a lot of time at your desk or otherwise in one spot with your laptop, it's not much of a downside.
You could also get a larger internal hard drive, of cours, but they're non-trivial to replace in recent Apple laptops.

  • How do I get rid of icons around Finder's window?

How do I get rid of icons (mere document shortcuts) around Finder's window (in the frame, the grey area).  They were not there in the first place, just got there somehow.  For example on the left side I have: documents, desktop, applications, movies (there are all good).... and a silly pdf document that shouldn't be there.  I can't move it or bin it, it just stays there...
There are also more such icons (shortcuts to documents) across the top of that window: amongst the "View", "Action", "Dropbox" icons (which are all good), there are also shortcuts to pdf documents or folders of documents which were never meant to end up there...  How can I clean this up?
    Thanks for any info!
