How do I install JSP tags

How do I install and use the tags posted at http://www.servletsuite.com/jsp.htm, it comes with a .jar and .tld. I am new to JSP so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. Thanks.

First you need to add the .jar file to the project. Right click on the project -> Library reference and add the jar file.
Then add the tld to <project-dir>WEB-INF/tld. Manually copy the tld files to this directory. Create if <project-dir>WEB-INF/tld does not exist.
Then you need to tell the JSP page how to use the tld.
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tld/mine.tld" prefix="mine" %> Now use the tag as
<mine:myTag ..- Winston

• How to render custom JSP tags

We have our own custom JSP tag libraries (some of them extend the Struts tags, but many do not) and want those to render correctly in the design view.
Is that supported by NitroX Struts, or will it only work with built-in Struts tags?
If it is supported, how does one get NitroX to run the custom tags?

It is possible to customize many aspects of the rendering of a custom tag. This is done using a combination of an M7 specific metadata, and standard css rules.
For example, you can change the label, icon and border of a custom tag by doing the following steps:
1) Create a folder named "nitrox" where your tld file is located. For example if you have "/WEB-INF/app.tld" then create a
folder "/WEB-INF/nitrox/".
2) In the nitrox folder created above, create a file named "app.tlei" (for Tag Library Extra Information). The file name used here should match the name of the tld file. In this case "app".
3) Paste the following content in the app.tlei file:
<taglib-extrainfo>
<css-uri>app.css</css-uri>
<tag name="myTag">
<display-name>My Tag</display-name>
<rendering-label>{tag-name} ({name})</rendering-label>
<small-icon>images/myTag.gif</small-icon>
</tag>
</taglib-extrainfo>
All customization tags are optional.
4) Create the css file referenced from the tlei file above (in this example app.css in the same directory containing the tlei file).
5) Paste the following content in the app.css file:
myTag {border: 1 solid red; display: "inline"}
This will render the tag as inline (i.e as one graphical object) even if the tag has nested content.
In addition, you can use any standard css style property.
You can customize other tags in the same fashion.
If a custom tag inherits from a Struts tag, then the tag can inherit the full built-in tag customization as shown in the following example:
Suppose you have a tag named "myText" that extends the Struts html:text form field tag. To inherit the NitroX html:text customization you follow the steps:
1) insert the following in the tlei file described above:
<tag name="myText">
<inherit taglib-uid="http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-html" tag-name="text" />
</tag>
2) Insert the following css rule in the css file referenced from the tlei file:
myText {m7-inherit: "input-text"; display: inline}
This will inherit the built-in css style for form text fields.
Likewise, you can inherit the other Struts tags css styles by using the following rules:
myPassword {m7-inherit: "input-password"; display: inline}
myCancel {m7-inherit: "input-submit"; display: inline}
myCheckbox {m7-inherit: "input-checkbox"; display: inline}
myRadio {m7-inherit: "input-radio"; display: inline}
mySelect {m7-inherit: "select"; display: inline}
myTextarea {m7-inherit: "textarea"; display: inline}
3) The inherited tag library file (in this example the struts-html.tld), must also be present under the WEB-INF directory.

I have some doubts about how to work with JSP Tags in iws6. What should I do to get this work?
The tag lib is gotten from jakarta project and I'd like to know which steps i have to follow.
Thank you very much

Hi,
What you have to do is this:
- Include the jar file in the WEB-INF/lib
- Include the tld file in a directory under WEB-INF, for example tlds
- Create a mapping in the deployment descriptor (web.xml), to make the taglib available, something like this:
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/io</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/io.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
Then in the jsp, you have to invoke it like this:
<%@ taglib uri="http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/io" prefix="io" %>
<io:http url="http://mustang:4004/NASApp/fortune/fortune" action="GET"/>
Hope this helps

• USE jsp TAG

How do I use JSP tag with Weblogic?
Where should I put my tld file, and where should I put the Java class file?
I put the Java files under
C:\bea\wlserver6.0sp1\config\mydomain\applications\DefaultWebApp_myserver\WE
B-INF\lib and it was not successful.
Thank you

something like this...

Tag myParent = getParent();
while (myParent != null ) {

if (myParent instanceof OuterTag) {
qParent = (OuterTag) myParent;
data = qParent.getSomeData();

• How to get the values of an Array using JSP Tags

Hey guys,
I need some help. I've splited a String using
fn:split(String, delim) where String = "1,2,3,4" and delim is ,
This method returns an Array of splited Strings. how do i get the values from this array using jsp tags. I don't wanna put java code to achive that.
Any help would be highly appreciated
Thanks

The JSTL forEach tag.
In fact if all you want to do is iterate over the comma separated list, the forEach tag supports that without having to use the split function.
<c:set var="list" value="1,2,3,4"/>
<c:forEach var="num" items="${list}">
<c:out value="${num}"/>
</c:forEach>The c:forTokens method will let you do this with delimiters other than a comma, but the forEach tag works well just with the comma-delimited string.

• How to use ugm:getGroupNamesForUser tag in jsp

when I use the tag in jsp ,run in server,the console write"weblogic.servlet cannot be resolved or is not a field
<ugm:getGroupNamesForUser username="weblogic" id="weblogic"/>"
I don't how to use it,please tell me,thank you!

I'm not sure why you are getting the console message, but here is how you might use the tag. This will simply print out the list of immediate groups (not parent groups) to which user "weblogic" is a member.
<%@ taglib uri="http://www.bea.com/servers/p13n/tags/userGroupManagement" prefix="ugm" %>
<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
<ugm:getGroupNamesForUser username="weblogic" id="groupNames"/>
<c:forEach items="${groupNames}" var="groupName">
bq. <c:out value="${groupName}"/>
</c:forEach>

I have never had any problems mixing straight HTML (without the verbatim tag) and JSF tags. OTOH, I use facelets, not JSPs, so my experience may not be applicable.

• How to get the anchor tag values in next jsp

Hey all,
I have two jsp files.
in first jsp,
I am getting the resultset.
I am setting the resultset to the anchor tag.
below is the code...
<%=rSet.getString(1) %>

whenever he click on any anchor tag,
It will goes to ACSMasterTwo.jsp page for edit the compleate record.
how to get the anchor tag value in that page...
Please help me on this.

You have to pass a parameter. An id is good.
Of course you have to get an id from somewhere in the result set right?
<a target="_top" rel="contents" rev="contents" class="fordynamiclabel" href="ASCMasterTwo.jsp?id=<%= rSet.getString("id") %>"><%=rSet.getString(1) %>
Then you call
request.getParameter("id");
and look up the values related to that id in the database.

• How do I pass a local variable as a parameter to a JSP Tag File?

I wrote a custom JSP tag file, and I want to pass a local variable to it through a parameter, like this:
<% Integer someValue = new Integer(-5); %>
<my:TestTag value="someValue"/>
This doesn't work though - the result is the string someValue. Trying to do this doesn't work either:
<% Integer someValue = new Integer(-5); %>
<my:TestTag value="someValue"/>
the value attribute ends up being null.
I know I can work arount by putting the local variable in the request attributes then using ${}, but that seems like a lot of unecessary work. Does anyone know I can just pass a local variable to the custom tag through the custom tags parameter list?

I'm far from beeing an expert, but this may be a clue (?)
Basically, the rule is: everything you want to be considerred as Java must be in a
JSP tag.
As an example, think of how you would do to pass the litteral string "someValue" otherwise. Then you may imagine other related issues...

• In javascript how to use jsp tag value

• How to do a jsp:include inside a noscript tag??

I am new to JSP and I need help to do a <jsp:include page="pageName" /> inside a tag. My goal is to include another jsp if the user has javascript disabled on its browser.
I am using a JSP template that retrieves content from the Database, so I need to pass a parameter also, like:

<jsp:include page="/include/template.jsp" flush="true"/>
<jsp:param name="pageName" value="holidays_onboard_html"/>

My code doesn't seem to work. I found an explanation that says that the noscript tag is interpreted after the servlet already tried to compose the original page, so I can't use a <jsp:include> tag inside the noscript tag. Is it true? Is there any other solution for what I am trying to accomplish?
Thanks a lot!

Java indeed runs at the server side, not at the client side. Java runs at the server side and produces a HTML page. HTML only runs at the client side.
The tag is not a Java/JSP tag, it is a HTML tag. What you want is only possible when you checked in Java if the client has JS enabled, e.g. using a request parameter, or by loading the page template using a HTML tag, e.g. .

• JSP Tags and pooling.

We are researching JSP Tags as a method of seperating our creative and coding efforts. Our research is showing that JSP tags is a resource hog and noticed that none of the JSP Tags are being pooled.
