How do i make links open in a new tab

Hi There,
Can someone please tell me how to get iWeb to set pages to open on a new tab when links are clicked.
Like when someone is viewing my website, I want the links in that website to open in a new tab within the web-browser when someone clicks on them. I know I can make links open in a New window but how do I make them open in a new tab.
Thanks a bunch
Jason

There is no HTML command to open windows in tabs.
Only these commands are available :
target="_blank"
target="_top"
target="_new"
Opening a new page in a tab is decided by the browser preferences.
In Safari : Preferences > Tabs

    I'm sure this is a goofy question but how do I make FF open webpages in a new window or tab when I click on a bookmark?
    I know I can right click and do it manually but is there a way to make a favorite open in a new tab when I click on it?
    Thanks,

    How to make every link open in a new tab?

    Hello Sammy90
    first be sure that you have the next 2 options in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] :
    * '''browser.link.open_newwindow''' = 3
    * '''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction''' = 2
    to check that :
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''', to continue to the about:config page.
    # in the search field type(or copy paste from here) '''browser.link.open_newwindow'''
    # if the value is 3, you are ok, otherwise double-click on it and change the value to 3, click OK to save it
    do the same with '''browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction''', remember we need 2 as value.
    '''now''' do the same with '''browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external''' and '''change''' the value to '''3''' (it is -1 by default).
    probably you are OK now.
    thank you

  • How to get pages to open in a 'New Tab' instead of a 'New Page'

    Hi there,
    I know how to get the pages of my iWeb created site to open as a 'New Page' by using the Inspector. What I want to do however, is to get them to open as a 'New Tab' instead.
    I want to do this because I have several pages that open as a 'New Page' and it litters the screen with Safari pages. So instead of a 'New Page', I want them to open as a 'New Tab' within the one Safari window.
    This is what I want to happen:
    1: user clicks on link
    2: link opens a new Tab
    3: Safari switches to the new Tab and makes it the active Tab.
    Can someone please tell me how to get this to happen. Just ot be totally clear: I am aware that I can alter [MY] Safari settings to do this on my own Mac. But I want it to happen as default for everyone who visits my site and clicks on the corresponding links.
    My site is published to MobileMe
    Regards
    Jason

    Window 7.
    Safari.
    Where is iWeb involved?
    Right-click > open link in new tab.
    Works with all webpages, not only iWeb ones.
    And if it drives you crazy, you may want to seek professional help with medication.

  • How do I stop pages opening in a new tab that I haven't clicked on?

    This page keeps opening in a new tab on my browser even though I have not clicked on anything.
    It is very annoying and manages to open the new tab and put it as the active tab.
    I have pop ups disabled and new tabs which open are not supposed to take over the tab that is active.

    Please help

    hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by malware on your pc. please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and also with different tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes].

  • How can I make a setting so that new tabs bring up my home page?

    When I open a new tab I get this lame empty page. I want my home page to come up! I know I can just click on the home button to do this but how can I set up Firefox to do it automatically? PS when first opening Firefox there is no problem - home page loads fine.

    You can do that by using an add-on such as:
    * NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
    * New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage

  • Can I get links to automatically open in a new tab just by clicking on them?

    I've selected the option to: "Open new windows in new tab instead" from the options menu. For some time this seemed to open any link I clicked on in a new tab. For some reason this feature is no longer working and new links clicked on simply overwrites the current tab with the new page. I liked the feature of having links open automatically in new tabs. The option remains selected but it does not seem to be working.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == recently

    Standard Firefox behavior is left-click will open a link or bookmark in the currently selected tab, over-writing whatever is in that tab. The definition for the option "Open new windows in a new tab instead" is:
    ''Open new windows in a new tab instead: This option preference controls whether ~~red:links from other applications~~ ~~blue:or from web pages '''which request to open them in new windows'''~~ are opened in a new window or a new tab in the most recent window. ''
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Tabs+panel
    A <u>'''middle-click'''</u> on a link or bookmark will open in a new tab (middle-click = press the scroll wheel). <u>'''Ctrl+left-click'''</u> will also open a link or bookmark in a new tab.

  • Normally when I am looking something and I have a link I clik right and then click open in a new tab, but I cannot do it now, nothing appear. What can I do?

    when I try to open a link in a new window, I click right and select open in a new tab; this time, nothing appear, I click right and nothing appear, so I cannot select anything and of course I don't get that link open in a new tab. I tried to reset, but when I go to help, the options don't appear neither; then I tried writing about:support, and looked for the reset that is supposed to be on top right, but nothing was there.
    I sincerly don't know what to do, I am so used to open almost everythin in new tabs and this situation is quite annoying

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
    *Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • Can I set toolbar items to open in a new tab by default without right clicking 1st and telling them to?

    I like to have some tabs open at the same time. Then I have some items in the toolbar that a sometimes need to open. I would like them to automatically open in a new tab without closing any tabs I already have open. Can this be done? I know if I right click on the toolbar item then choose open in a new tab it works. ??

    I do not know of any way to specify only some bookmarks to open in a new tab. You could middle-click on a bookmark to make it open in a new tab.
    There are add-ons that can make all bookmarks open in a new tab, such as:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13784/ Open Bookmarks in New Tab]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122/ Tab Mix Plus]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59961/ Tab Utilities]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/62581/ Tab Utilities Lite]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14439/ Tabberwocky]
    All but the first of those will add many other tab browsing features. There will be other tabbed related add-ons that can open all bookmarks in a new tab, you can find them by searching https://addons.mozilla.org/

  • When I click on my bookmarks they no longer open in a new tab, what do I do to fix it?

    I just uploaded to the newest version of Firefox. Now, when I click on a bookmark the link opens in the same tab - they won't open in a new tab. However, when I click on a link in an existing page that link opens in a new tab. I miss having my bookmarked links open in their own individual tabs. Please put that function back in.

    Some add-ons like Tab Mix Plus offer that as an option, but I do not recall that ever being a built-in function if Firefox.
    Have you tried Middle+click or Ctrl+click? See (under Web Navigation section): http://www.7is7.com/software/firefox/shortcuts.html

    I have some RSS feeds on my website.  If you click one of their headlines it takes you to that source to read the story.  Is there a way to make all hyper links on a webpage open in a new window?  If not, is there a way to make the individual links open in a new window?  The website is http://www.businessfixer.net/articles

    Mark,
    Target: e.g. <a href=”#” target=”_blank”> is deprecated (outdated) code.  Strict doc types will not pass validation.
    OP,
    Most people know how to use their browsers BACK button to return to a site.  Or better yet, right click on links to open them inside new tabs or windows.  This should almost always be a user's decision and not a web designer's decision.
    If you have all links open in new windows/tabs, In no time at all, user's browser will be stuffed with them which is ugly and can diminish browser performance.
    If you need to open a new window on SELECT links, use the Behaviors Panel, press the Plus sign (+) and select Open Browser Window.  Repeat this for all links you want opened in new windows.

  • How do I make it the default that when I click on a link it will open in a new tab?

    Particularly when I am doing a Google search, but also when I am in a site, I find I frequently have to right click and force 'open in a new tab' to avoid the link overriding the current tab. I want to have all links I click on automatically open in a new tab. My settings are set to go to the new tab immediately - that works fine - but too often I have to immediately back-page and re-click using the right-click menu to avoid losing my search or origin page. This is annoying when there are several links I want to explore, and have to backtrack to get to them.
    Firefox is my default browser, 29.0.1 at the moment, and it runs on an old Dell laptop using WinXP. Before asking this I did check the available support info without finding an answer. I followed the instructions in the article about Google and the about:config but it did no good - it still defaults to opening in the current tab. It might seem like a small thing but in my search for answers I saw some folks who have the reverse problem - they want links to open in the same tab - so clearly it is a settings issue. How do I fine tune mine to get the result I prefer? Thanks!!

    Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
    Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.
