How do I measure temperature from 4 RTDs simultaneously?

I am trying to set up a systerm that requires multiple temperature measurements. I am able to make one RTD measure. But if I mirror the same code to create two measurements, i am getting an Error - 50103 "the specified resource is reserved". I have just begun using LabVIEW, so any and all help is valuable. If there is already material available on this topic, would you direct me there please.

Yup read Multi-channel Single Sample with a single task.
That being said this won't be "simultaneous". That implies at the same instant in time all 4 will be read. This just won't be true without a simultaneous sampling card. Without that card your readings will likely be fraction of a milliseconds appart and for temperature that should be more than enough. How much can temperature change in 0.001 seconds? But for other signal types like trying to read a phase off set in a sine wave you will need a true simultaneous sampling card.

How do I measure RPM from a magnetic pick up?

I have a Red Lion RPM display with a hall effect sensor connected to it. From what I've read This sensor/display setup passes a current through the pickup and measures the voltage generated by the rotating shaft to determine RPM.The problem I am having is my daqboard (PCI-6025E) counter won't measure the AC pulse of the sensor output. I currently use the ac output of the counter connected to an analog input and have it scaled for 1.6 v to 3.2 volts ac equals 400 to 2500 RPM.Is there a signal conditioning board I could use to convert the ac pulse to a 5 volts ttl pulse the daqboard can use?I've tried using a schmitt trigger, but I can't get an output from the trigger.

One option would be to use the analog triggering on one of our full featured E Series data acquisition boards to trigger a digital pulse as outlined in the following Knowledge Base:

Another option would be to purchase some of our SSR Series input modules. These modules convert AC and DC voltages to a TTL logic signal. If a voltage is within the selected input range, the SSR module returns logic low. Otherwise, the SSR module returns logic high.
Whether you choose to go with the full featured E Series DAQ board or the SSR modules I recommend contacting our internal sales department at 1-800-433-3488 since they are wonderful at specifying systems.

How to import measurment data from a Excel File to Citadel DataBase?

A Microsoft Excel File is being created in a PC and I want to include that flie´s data into my citadel Database wich is in another PC.

I give a example "Importing Spreadsheet Data to the Citadel Database" in the LabVIEW Version 6.1 and LV-DSC 6.1.
LabVIEW 7.0 with LV-DSC you must in the ini file "DSCEngine.ini"
set NoShutdownLog=1 and UseServerTimestamps=TRUE.

Measuring voltage from thermocouples

How do i measure voltage from a thermocouple which is joined to another one. Meaning that they have a common point. I have tried reading in a voltage from 1 point and then subtracting it with the other but it does not give me the reading the multimeter is showing

For troubleshooting bad readings, probably the first thing to do would be to check the board's configuration.
Is it configured in differential mode? Differential mode is the most recommended mode for thermocouple readings. When using differential mode, just make sure to connect the positive lead of the thermocouple to ACH0 (for example), and the negative to ACH8.
Once you have all the signals connected to your DAQ board, try running a MAX Test Panel. I usually run it using Continuous Mode. Before starting the acquisition, check the input limits in MAX, adjust them according to the input signal so that the board applies the appropriate gain.
Finally, create a Virtual Channel (by taking into consideration the thermocouple type). Are you re
ading the correct temperature? Is the CJC in your terminal block enabled? It's always easier to compare the temperature than the millivolts readings.

How do I run a J-type thermocouple to the usb-6363 DAQ and program labview to measure temperature?

I have a usb-6363 DAQ and a J-type non-contact thermocouple that I am looking to connect and measure temperature through. However, the DAQ does not have any T/C inputs, which is needed to measure in the thermocouple temperature. I am connecting the thermouple to an analog input (+/-) and I am not looking to buy an amplifier, converter or any other hardware. I believe there is a way to program labview to read in the voltages of the thermocouple and convert it into accurate temperature readings. Any help/ideas?

At first glance, the 6363 you're using should have enough resolution to acquire usable data from a thermocouple- if you attempt reading raw voltages be sure that the acquisition range is configured for +/- 0.1V, though.

You transfer data with wires.
Frankly, I'm a little confused by your question. I can't think of any reason why you would want to pass serial parameters (i.e. baud rate, parity) to a GPIB instrument. Please explain with further detail and attach the code.

Can I measure temperature using 6013 & 68LPR?

Hello, from hardware I've got Multifunction DAQ (6013) and Therminal Block (68LPR). From software I've got VI Logger (1.0.1) and NI-DAQ (6.9.3). Using this, can I measure temperature with K-Type therminals? (Everything is installed and ready to go)
If yes, how can I connect K-Type therminal to thermal block? Are there any instructions on how to use VI Logger to perform similar task to this one?
Also what I want is, the temperature that has been read (for an hour, every 5mins) to be written in a file. Is it possible to write to a file using VI Logger?

Measuring temperature using thermocouple and SCB-68 box

I used thermocouple and SCB-68 box to measure temperature. But the readings were fluctuating around the expected value. So I removed the thermocouple and short-circuited the differential input channels. As expected, the voltage reading was not zero and also fluctuating. It seems that there was something wrong with the SCB-68 box. What might lead to this and how to solve this problem? Thanks.

The problem could be either the SCB-68 or the DAQ card you are using to make the measurement. You should first ensure that the DIP switches (S1 - S5) of your SCB-68 are in the correct position for your application. Please refer to the SCB-68 User Manual for more information on this subject.

What do you mean by fluctuating? Full swings from 10V to 10V? Hitting one rail? Close to 0V but looks like noise in mV or uV? If your fluctuation is very slight, for example off by a few millivolts, than you could be picking up noise or your board could need to be calibrated. You can read more about accuracy and

Can NI myDAQ ai0 and ai1 be connected directly with thermocouples to measure temperature???

I am trying to use myDAQ to realize both temperature measurement and digital output.
By reading this page I have learned that how I can create a task for temperature measurement using thermocouple with a certain NI device.

What I found to be really interesting is that when I create a task for myDAQ temperature measurement using a thermocouple when my NI myDAQ is connected with my PC, two AI ports ai0 and ai1 both appears in the create task window!!
I never found any information from NI myDAQ manual that "AI0 and AI1" can be connected directly with a thermocouple to measure temperature without using additional conditioning system. But this window suggests that myDAQ can be used in this way, is it?
I am still trying to do it this way, and I'll post some results here again.
I would be really appreciate if anyone could confirm or disprove my guess. Thank you.

As a newcomer to digital sound (my background is camera) I confess to being somewhat confused. We are normally told to record at the highest level possible. So for voice podcasts I tend to record at about -6dB below peak for maximum volume, distributeds on MP3 files.
But I can underatand that televison and radio especially for analogue transmission) may have limited headroom, hence the requirement for -18dB peak = 0dBM.
I remember when we first rented out Digital Betacam cameras, some recordists were recording almost everything OVER -18dBM.
I suspect that until we have an all-digital world, these requiremnents will still be in place.

I've been deleting information I don't want in the "Sort..." fields (like getting rid of "Deluxe Edition" markers, etc.), but when I plug my iPod into my computer iTunes repopulates the fields I deleted. This only happens for a few artists, and it's the same artists every time this happens. How do I stop it from doing that? It makes it measurably harder for me to control the organization of my library.
