How do I move songs within a playlist?

Drag and drop isn't working.

Also, forgot to add: The playlist must be sorted by "Playlist Number" on the far left. Anything else, and you won't be able to drag and drop since the sort takes priority.

You can set any song to Skip when shuffling.
In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library.

Can't move songs within my playlists

Tried to move songs within my playlists, but menu button is not working. I just bought the phone 2 weeks ago, never dropped it and the botton works fine in other apps. I took out the battery, but it still doesnt work.

I experienced the same problem with the menu button not working when trying to remove a song from a playlist. I did come up with a work around though. Remove the song from your phone, then proceed to delete the song from the playlist. Note: the menu button will work when trying to remove songs from a playlist which have been deleted from your phone. Then, if you still want that song on your phone, but not in the playlist, add the song back onto your phone.

I found this thread via a search, I have a new iphone 5 (also i am completely new to iphone, having been the last few years on android) and i have spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add a song to a playlist.
You see i sit a work and listen to dozens of tunes, and i want to add a paticular song to a particular play list, and low and behold I can't, excuse my special characters but "What the f#%k itunes/apple??? - how can this be? Such a commonly needed function and for itunes to be the number music player in the world not to have this feature is ludicrus.
I am lucky that i only have about 500 songs on my iphone thus far, i feel sorry for stephanW with 4000+ !!
Apple - please fix - this is schoolboy programming stuff...

Go into iTunes > Preferences > Playback and select "Crossfade Songs" and experiment with the sliding bar. That may provide what you're looking for.

Hi does anyone know how to delete multiple songs within a playlist on OS or Mac?? I have reached the limit in songs I can play offliine and would like to delete some of the songs that are on my playlist. For example the last 100 songs. On ios i think the only way is to edit the playlist by clicking on the three dots. I dont own a mac, but on windows you can hold control and select the songs you want to delete. Or select a song, go to the last song you want to delete, hold shift and click on the song.

Besides using "View Options", how do you arrange songs within a playlist into a personal preference sequence?
I've tried dragging songs around within a playlist to put them in an order that I prefer, but they wont move outside an order combination defined in "View Options". I've also tried turning off the shuffle option as suggested in a separate post, but this did not work.

OK, just click on the first unnamed column where it shows 1,2,3,etc.
Now you should be able to drag them around how you want.

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

Can't move songs within playlist?

I am running 7.6.1.9 itunes and can no longer move songs within my play lists.
I used to be able to click and drag them around to change their order within the playlist.

Your question is clear, but you then go on to say something completely different. I've answered your question "how can (you) shuffle songs in a Playlist in iTunes 11".
In Playlists, click on the "start playing in shuffle mode" icon (that I've ringed). And...
In this next shot (the space you need to watch), you can see the Shuffle icon (ringed in larey lime) is blue, so it's "on", and I've also clicked on the "show me what's coming up next" icon (ringed in red). Study the list of upcoming songs. It's the Playlist we're in, but shuffled:

Brandcast, I'd suggest you post in a new topic. Although your question is the same, apparently the answer isn't. Any topic that was originally started over 2 months ago may relate to a different version of iTunes (neither you nor the original poster say which version you use) and who knows what may happen between versions.

I would like to clean up some of the songs on my new 80 GB Video iPod. I notice that the same musical groups with slightly different spellings will be listed under artists with both spellings (example: Ah Ha & a-Ha). How do I move songs from one directory (a-Ha to Ah Ha)? I think I am running into problems because I used an mp3 cd to load some of these songs into iTunes (I dragged them to iTunes from the CD in Windows explorer). Also, I am unable to create a "Workout" playlist on the iPod. I can do this in iTunes, but the playlist and the songs do not appear on my iPod. There are 2 other playlists that were created when I dragged the files from the hard drive to iTunes. Is that the problem I am having? Another question: would it be best to move all my songs from their sources into the \My Music\iTunes directory? Will doing this make the songs from that directory synch with my iPod? Thank you.

Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
So to correct this, in the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. You should do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.
Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.
If you want the music in your iTunes library to be accessible to it and transferrable to the ipod, all the music should be in your iTunes folder which is usually found at my music/iTunes/iTunes music.
You can do this by using the advanced/consolidate option in iTunes. This creates a copy of all the music found on your computer and places it in the iTunes music folder.
