How do I open a new tab/new URL from a plugin's sidebar?

I have created a plugin with a sidebar. I would like to be able to change the URL of the current tab in the sidebar's window or open a new tab, given that I click a button in the sidebar (or an event is triggered in the sidebar). I am currently using the following Javascript code to go to a new URL:
content.location = newURL;
However, I have other buttons in the sidebar that open new (small) windows. If I first click one of these buttons to open a new window, then the above code fails; it changes the URL of the tab in THAT NEW WINDOW, not in the window of the sidebar. How do I change this?
This also seems to be complicated by the fact that the sidebar document does not have a parent. Any tips are appreciated!

If there are any differences made when you change the behavior of opening up a new url this option can be found in the Preferences/Options > Tab menu.

The SDK does not provide any calls to open the Place dialog directly.
You have a few potential solutiuons, however.
A. Implement your own file dialog box, and use the Place suite. Which I think is perhaps the most elegant solution.
B. Programitcally create an action that opens the Place dialog. You can record an action that does this to see what file would have to be written (see "Insert Menu Item..." then type "Place", enter while recording). Then you could call the action with the Action suite.
C. The dialog could be opened using the scripting capabilites (for instance AppleScript). Your program could then write/call the AppleScript. I know it can be done with AppleScript, and I suspect other scripting languages such as Java might be able to do it.

Suddendly everytime I open a new tab it goes from Mozilla to Bablylon search. What is this and how do I get rid of it please? Using Firefox 5.

When I open my Mozilla brower it opens up on the Mozilla Firefox Start Page but when I open a new tab it opens using Babylon search. This is something that has only just started happening and I don't like it and I don't want it on my machine. what can I do to get rid of it and revert back to all tabs opening with Mozilla?

How do i open google searches in new tab?

Until quite recently I was able to open a Google search in a new tab by just clicking on the page link. Now I can't, even though my settings are set to do this. The only way I have been able to open in a new tab is by right clicking and clicking "Open Link in New Tab". What am I doing wrong?

For the Google website you can set your preferences on the Google.com page via the [http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en Google Search settings] link at the top right.
Results Window: Open search results in a new browser window.
You need to allow cookies for Google (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to save that setting, otherwise you have to repeat it.

Problems opening a New Tab in Safari from Bookmark Bar Folder

When I am in Safari and attempt to Open a link to a new tab from the Bookmark Bar that is part of a Folder on the Bookmark bar it does nothing.
I can change the preferences to auto-click for the Bookmark Folders, but then every link loads when I try to access the folder from the Bookmark Bar. Very cool to see lots of pages loading at once, but not what I'm after. Doesn't seem to be a way to just load 1 link from the folder
If its a single link on the Bookmark Bar that has not been organized into a Folder it does work.

You know what? - my Safari works just the same way.... but I'd never noticed before.

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.

There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs using OS X prior to Lion,, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
With SilverLight, Microsoft attempted to create their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be - but not to universal acclaim. You can read more about it here:

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. I have been a long time user of CS6, but today I signed up for the new Photoshop CC. The problem is that I have absoluetly no idea how to open a photo in the new CC. I don't even see the new CC as something I can download, only a lot of icons that I have never used before and one that is for cs6, which I already have installed on my computer. From where do I down load the new CC program and how do I open one of my photos in it?

The button to open a new tab is missing from each tab in Firefox 7

I have Win 7 and Firefox 7 on my PC. I used to have the + to open a new tab on the right end of the open tab. That is gone now, though when I loaded Firefox 7 on my PC at work (Win XP) it had the = on the tab, before it crashed and would not open again. I have to run 3.16(?) on that computer.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar. 
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions. 
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window. 
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.

Then, insert this code:

When I right click on a bookmark, I can see this order:

I also installed the Menu Editor add-on to change the order of this menu, but it works only with link within a page, not for bookmarks.
With the previous code in userChrome.css file, it works also with right click on a bookmark.
I hope this solution will be useful for many users, because I found more difficult to solve the problem.

That is a Windows Backup file. I seriously doubt that there will be any way to read that on a Mac. Do you have a Windows machine that you can use to open those files and save the contents in a more friendly format?
