How do I open a window at moving button's current location?

I'm creating a flash movie of various fish swimming across
the screen. At the moment I've got each fish as a movie symbol
inside a button symbol whose position moves across the screen as
the fish swims along. When you click a fish I want text to pop up
at the fish's current location telling you about the fish. The text
sits there while the fish continues to swim away and after a
certain time the text disappears.
The fish swims away but the text needs to stays put. If you
click the fish again the same text appears at the new location as
well, so I need to be able to have multiple instances of the text
on screen at once.
What is the best way to make this text appear at the fish's
current location and disappear again after a certain time? In the
long term I'll probably want to make the text appear in a bubble
and have a little picture of the fish as well. The text for each
fish will be different, describing that species of fish and his
habitat, etc.
I've never touched Flash before so any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Which way should I go? Action Script? Behaviors? Listeners
& Broadcasters? Something else?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Please help!

Well, if you've really got no experience, this may be a
little awkward, but
the answer is yes, it involves ActionScript.
There are several potential solutions, but the basic
principle is to track
the _x, _y coordinates of the fish movieClip when the user
clicks on it.
Then have a dynamic text box that is inside another movieClip
display the
correct text at those specific coordinates. This is not
really a task to
dive into (no pun intended) as a beginner. I'd look into
variables,
functions, and specifically duplicateMovieClip (use this on
the text
movieClip) for starters.

The solution is dependent on your Forms version and if your applications is traditional Client/Server (CS) (Forms 6i and lower) or web deployed (Forms 6i and higher). For CS, you would use the Get_File_Name() built-in as Faa demonstrated. For Web, you will need to use the WebUtil library function Client_Get_File_Name() as Sarah (OGIR) demonstrated. Both of these functions will return the full path to a file. Note: WebUtil is an external library so it requires you to perform some configuration on your developer client as well as on the Application Server. WebUtil is included with Forms 9i and higher, but you must download it for Forms 6i.
My requirement is user should able to select windows directory for the output.Do you really need to allow the user to write to a file in the Windows directory? This is very dangerous and you should not allow users or programs to write to the Windows directory. Users should only be able to write files to "User" directories (\My Documents\<Directory name>).

You can set the workprotect mode on a global level so its used for every user.
Systemadministration -> Systemconfiguration -> Service Configuration -> Applications -> com.sap.portal.epcf.loader -> Services -> epcfloader. Set the "workprotect.mode.default". After you have saved the entry. ricght click on com.sap.portal.epcf.loader in the tree menu and choose "administrate". Click on "restart".

Hi, Im new to JDeveloper and I work in a school which requires restriction of the C: Drive. Does any one know how I can either stop the "Open Applications" dialog from showing this drive or Use the Windows Explorer "Open" dialog window to browse files, the drive has been hidden and restricted using GPO but JDeveloper shows the C: drive?

Hi and thanks Timo. We are using 12c. On the Windows side of things, we are using Win7 and we have hidden the drives we don't want the user to see using GPO but obviously Jdev then shows these drives in its "Open Applications" Window and allows access. As far as the environmental variable is concerned this is something that I put in place.

How to create a dialog window with no button that opens along with the main window?

When the main window is open, the dialog window opens up immediately and can be closed by key press. At other times, when the next step, ie: decision, comes to, the another dialog window pops up again and is again closed by key press. Does anyone know how to do? Use the sub-Vi? notification method? occurrence method?
And another thing: how to create a reusable dialog window with no button so that different messages can be sent to it and it can closed by key press. And how to pass the string to the title of the dialog window programmatically?

For your functionality (If I understand it right), nothing needs to be in the event structure. Pressing any key just triggers the event, thus finishing the VI (there is no while loop).
Could you tell me what you mean my "it won't run properly"? Make sure that the front panel of the subVI is closed before starting the main VI. Remember that the subVI is set to "open when called" and "close afterwards if originally closed". So, if you had the panel open already, it won't of course close when finished!
(Actually, the problems is worse when you have the subVI panel open when starting the main VI. you get a catch22 and labVIEW locks up because (1) the subVI is set to dialog and grabs all attention but (2) it has not been
called, thus the event cannot be triggered. So don't do that!!!! As a quick workaround, add the modification shown in the attached image to ensure the panel of the subVI is closed.)

I am using MS Entourage and would like to be able to open multiple windows within that program. For example, I would like to have both my calendar and address book opened at the same time in different windows. I have looked all over for a way to do this, but I have not had any luck. Any ideas? Thank you for your reply. I am trying to edit my Christmas Card List (group) with my All Contacts List. If I had a window side by side with each group in separate windows I could just compare the lists. The only other way I can think to do this is open my contacts on another device and have different group lists display on each device.

There is no way to programitically bring up the dialog window for the timestamp control. I recommend building your own dialog window VI that will work by opening when you want the user to set the time and when it closes, it can programatically update the timestamp control. It will not be as pretty but it will be just as functional.

I have a button on a screen that does some processing of the data and then generates a PDF file with the output. I would also like it to run a report and show the output of that in a separate window. I realize that using regular HTML with a target of "_blank" on the form, you can have the results show in a new window, but how can I launch a second window from a single button click, if possible?

It can be possible using two different popUps instead windows. Onclick on the button just make vissible true of those two popup in the event method, before making visible true, do the business operation to show on the popups. So simple :)
Note: Popup has modal=false attribute
