How do I order my print in black/white in the updated iPhoto

I have just updated to the new iphoto in Mac OS X 10.9    I am trying to order my color print as a black & white photo.  I have gone into the edit/effects area and changed the photo to black & white.  When I click on the share/order prints icons, the photo always reverts back to the original color photo.  In the older iphoto version, I was actually able to click on order prints, then it would give me a black & white order option.  This seems to no longer work this way.  I must be missing something obvious, but I cannot seem to figure it out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Doesn't seem to be as user friendly as the previous iphoto version.  Thank you.

You are right - the "Order Prints" dialog does show the B&W version as a color photo.
That looks like a bug to me.
As a work-around, while you are waiting for a bug fix:
Use File > Export to export your B&W version to a folder and reimport the version.
Then try to order prints for the reimported version. That should show the photo in greyscale only, like this.
Send feedback to Apple, to let them know, that this needs fixing.  The form is here:   Apple - iPhoto - Feedback

  • How can I print in black/white only a document that has colors in the original?

How can I print in black/white only a document that has colors in its original. I don't need the print out to be in color, and I don't want to waste the color ink.

It depends on your printer and the application you are using.
In some applications you can choose color vs. greyscale/black&white when you do File > Print.   PowerPoint is one example of an application that allows this choice.
Otherwise, you can usually select greyscale at the time you print the document.  Do File > Print. In the resulting dialog box, there should be an item called Copies & Pages (in Word and other applications) or Preview (in Preview).  Click it.  In the resulting list, you should then see an option called Printer Features.  Click it.  Then you should see an option called Printout Mode.  Usually one of the modes is Greyscale or Black & White.  Select it.  Then Print.
This can also depend on your printer.  Exactly what make/model printer are you using?   And what kind of document are you trying to print (Word, PPT, JPEG, etc)?

It's also wise to crop the photos to the print size you're ordering so you have control over what portion of the image gets printed.  Otherwise, the image will be scaled so the smaller dimension fills the paper cropping off some of the oither dimension.

  • How convert a color PDF File to black & white (gray scale...no color)

How convert a color PDF File to black & white (gray scale...no color)??? creative cloud cs6... Acrobat etc

Hi, just wanted to add my 2¢
I've been in publishing over 25 years and live in Acrobat for making my final files. Currently with a newspaper.
    This is what we do:
    • Tool Panes > Print Production Window
    • Select CONVERT COLORS
    • Midway down under OUTPUT INTENT, check Convert Colors to Output Intent
    • In the associated drop down menu, I choose (because I'm printing on newsprint) DOT GAIN 20% – If you're working on better stock, choose a lower dot gain percentage.
    • Click OK – this will convert the file
    • Save
Note: this affects the file you're working with. Make sure that you use this method on a COPY if you want to retain the original color version.
I think if you compare my method to the Preflight method, you'll see a tighter contrast and better blacks. I've always felt the Preflight method left continuous tones a little muddy.
Now if there was only a way to add that to ACTIONS...!

  • ORDER A PRINT ONLINE OF A SQUARE PHOTO IN IPHOTO

How can I order a print of square photos in IPHOTO without them cropping it out as it happened, instead of scaling it down to fit the paper and leave a white border as I assumed they would do??
    MACCBOOK   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Ricardo:
You can't. iPhoto doesn't offer a square format. All prints are borderless. If you want a square print you'll need to use one of the other online providers.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • 5530e - unable to print in black & white

There seems to be no option to print in black & white. I don't need color all the time.

    Hi Anniebella,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer and the need to print only in black. Here is a link to change print settings for black ink only. You will notice the section change the default print settings for all print jobs. If you follow this document it will show you how on Windows 7 or Windows 8.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

  • Printing a black & white photo

    Hi all,
I'm not sure whether this is the right category but here goes.
I have scanned an old photo using my HP Photosmart C4580, into Photoshop and changed the now, sepia colours to black & white which is fine.
The problem arises when I then try to print it on the same printer, as it doesn't come out black and white, it is printing with a distinct blue tinge so obviously it is not using the black cartridge but is trying to cobble something using the colour cartridge.
Is there a means of forcing it to print in black & white, i.e. ONLY use the black cartridge.
Before you ask, I am on WIndows XP SP3 (which I don't think should make any difference) and I haven't tried removing the colour cartridge as I have a feeling that it might complain that it is missing a cartridge and then possibly get stuffed up when I put the colour cartridge back in.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Regards

OK, there are a few issues here.  First, the cartridges are regionalized and there are four different regions and cartridges and printers are not compatible across the different regions.  If you bought the printer in the UK and moved to New Zealand then you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.
As for the color vs.. black vs.. photo cartridges, your printer can use several different combinations.  The cartridges are as follows:
Black:  Contains pigmented black ink.  This is excellent for plain paper text but is not compatible with glossy photo papers.  The drop size is ~3x larger than the color or photo drops since this cartridge is optimized for text.  When photo paper is selected this cartridge will not be used.
Color:  Contains cyan, magenta and yellow dye based ink. The dye based ink is compatible with plain paper or photo paper.
Photo:  Contains light cyan, light magenta and black dye based inks.  Used in conjunction with a Color cartridge the combination can give more detailed B&W prints and less "grainy" light areas such as color sky and face tones.
For your case a working color cartridge would likely print fine B&W photo's, but if you did a side by side comparison with a print made with the color and photo cartridges installed you may see an improvement.

Anyway it appears the scanner will not work via the TC either, never crossed my mind when I purchased it that I would have such problems. Two thumbs down for TC

    Please identify your notebook/pc /printer.
Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc/printer at the barcoded sticker.
Post item number 2 as seen on the following example of an HP notebook's barcoded sticker. The barcode on your HP product may be slightly different in appearance, but will still have the important information needed for us to help you.
###Do not post the serial number of your product as it is personal information.###
If your printer is a laser printer then simply go to print preferences and select grayscale printing

  • Can I really not print in black only when the cyan cartridge is empty?

I have a message that the cyan cartridge is empty and that I cannot print until it is replaced. It's a new cartridge, less than a month old. I took it out and shook it, and can tell there's plenty of toner left. But my primary question is, why can't I print in black only without the cyan cartridge being replaced?

    Hi,
Any ink is required to maintain the printhead and service the printer.
Print head nozzles get clogged over time, most commonly by microscopic dust particles or dried ink. Nozzles are kept clean by servicing, including wiping the surface with a small rubber wiper, ejecting ink through the nozzles to purge particles and to prevent drying and pumping with ink to clean the print head. To keep the printer ready to print in either colour or black, these service routines typically consume some ink from every cartridge, even if only black or colour is used in the document being printed.
Oce the is not enough ink to service the printhead any depleted ink cartridge must be replaced to resume prnting:
