How do I play movie in iTunes on my TV?

I don't have Apple TV but in the past, I've been able to play a movie I made myself on my monitor that also is a TV (i.e., my Sony Trinitron TV). I tried out the video rental thing in iTunes and I canNOT get it to display on my TV monitor. Yes, I have the right cable and I can play stuff from my iPod on my TV but not from my Mac. I want to use my Mac to be able to use the remote control that came with it. This is really frustrating. What's the trick or is it impossible? I don't have the budget to go buy Apple TV and I don't have the modern up to date type of TV it requires. Help!

Connect your computer and Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
Open iTunes (10.2 or later).
Locate and click the icon in the bottom-right corner of the iTunes application.
Select your Apple TV, AirPort Express, or AirPlay-enabled speakers or receivers from the list of available devices that appears, and begin playback.
Note: The images of a TV screen or speaker next to each AirPlay device in the AirPlay menu indicate the type of media content you can stream to that device.
Do you see the Denon when you click the AirPlay icon in the lower right corner of iTunes?

When you say tit only sees your music folder, are you saying it only sees your music folder or does it see other empty folders.

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

Make sure the XP box is upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Also make sure it's using the itunes media folder layout as explained here, because that's what the W7 is going to be using.

Install itunes on the new W7 PC.
Get these folders from the XP machine
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And put them here on the W7 machine
C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Commercial DVDs can't be transferred to the iPod without programs of dubious legality, and a decent sized PITA.

You need to install iTunes on your Windows 7 machine (if it is not already installed), you need to login to the iTunes Store using the same Apple ID as the Mac. You then need to copy the movie file from the Mac on to the PC. You then need to tell iTunes on the PC to import that file.
When you then try playing it on the Windows PC, it should ask for permission (and password) to activate that computer with the iTunes Store. It should then be able to play it.
You can have up to five computers (Mac or PC) activated at the same time.

Can not play movies without iTunes

I purchased several moves and downloaded them onto my MacBook Pro 10.9.5. The plan was to be able to watch these movies when I lost electricity. Well, it happened today and when I try to play them with QuickTime Player (or anything else I have), it tells me I must use iTunes to play them. after sept 12 update, i could not play movies or tv shows on itunes. did the uninstall/reinstall of itunes and quicktime. did the uncheck 3d video acceleration under quicktime perferences advanced tab. NONE OF THAT WORKED!!! finally saw someone's post about just dragging and dropping your movie over the quicktime icon. got a error message and then waited for my cursor to stop spinning (which it didn't) and after saying WTH, I just went ahead and clicked on the play button. GUESS WHAT? it worked and i was able to watch my movies without any hiccups or problems. FINALLY. and btw, this post was on a quicktime support community. thanks apple.

I suspect that this has been asked before, but how do I now play .mov files. I created some movies a few years ago for teaching purposes and need to use them again. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime seem to recognise/support the .mov format.
Any help would be much appreciated

Are you saying that there are settings that I can adjust to let current versions of Quicktime/iMovie/iTunes play the files, or do I need to use another programme to convert the files into a current form that will be recognisable to current standards?
I am saying that we have no idea what codec components were used to create the original files. (I.e., the MOV file container is like a bottle, can, cup, glass, or other container that can be filled with any liquid, solid, or gas that can be fit into it.) For instance, if were created as Windows Media Video files and copied to an MOV file container, then you would need Flip4Mac components installed on your system. If they were created using DivX, XviD, 4IVX or similar codecs, then you would need to update those codecs or remove them and install the Perian codec package. MOV files containing muxed MPEG-2 video would require installation if the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component. FLV content in an MOV file container could be played with the Perian package installed. If the files were created using one of FCP "Pro" components, then those same codecs must be installed on the platform on which you wish to play the files now. And so on down the line of "legacy" and third-party codec compression formats which may or may not be spported by the latest versions of QT which tend to concentrate on newer technologies that support HD compression formats.
What I am saying is that without knowing what codec components were used to create the original file, it is impossible to tell whether you simply need to install currently available components that will allow you to play the files in the QT X, QT 7, use a third-party player like VLC for playback, or whether you would have to re-compress the files that target codecs no longer available for current hardware/software system configurations. Further, I am saying that the first step in solving a playback problem is to clearly define the specific problem in terms of the file container, compression format(s) involved, data characteristics as specified by Inspector, Media, Finder, or third-party utility windows or providing a sample file for analysis if you cannot determine this information on your own.
