How do I prevent Save as .csv file alwways appending .txt to the filename if I choose the "Open with" action?

My ASP csv download page is calling:
Response.Clear
Response.AddHeader "content-disposition","attachment; filename=filename.csv"
Response.ContentType = "Content-Type: text/csv; charset=utf-8"
When I click on the link to this ASP page the Firefox "Opening filename.csv" dialog appears:
filename.csv
which is a: Text Document
If I choose "Open with <Any Application name>" the file is always opened by the application with a .txt appended to the filename, which in this particular case prevents my spreadsheet software from correctly opening it.
a) How do I prevent the .txt being appended to the file name if OpenWith is used?
b) Is there a way to add a CSV type to the Tools->Options Applications Content Type list to prevent the "which is a: Text Document" message?
This behaviour does not happen in Chrome, Opera, Safari or IE.

Is there no entry in Application Options for text/csv?

In the search box, type csv and pause while Firefox filters the list.
If you have Microsoft Office installed, the dialog typically lists "Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File (text/csv)" (you need to display the mouseover tooltip to see all of it).
I assume Firefox extracts this information from the registry. If you want to reset the Application Options and have Firefox rebuild them, the method is described in this article:

each time i save as .csv i need to say yes to save in older format, select wich map i want to use...
if i in VBA could have som file dialog brosing to the file i want to use etc.:

and then call:

I haven't had time to test this myself (it's Saturday!), but i suspect if you bracket your FileSaveAs command turning the MS Project alerts off and back on again, the alert box you're seeing will be suppressed:
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
FileSaveAs Name:=stringtosave , FormatID:="MSProject.CSV", map:="MapiwillUse"
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
If you wanted to get a dialogue to browse for the folder, you'll need to use an API call. Chip Pearson has posted a how to guide on how to browse for a folder using the API call "SHBrowseForFolderA". His website focusses on MS Excel VBA, but I've
used this code myself in MS Project and can confirm it works the same.

Rereading your question after posting my response, I think you'll want to browse for a file rather than a folder, which is a different api call - "ahtCommonFileOpenSave".

Hey Scripting Guys,
As stated by the name I'm a novice at scripting. Typically I'm able to resolve most of my scripting challenges by reading through your site or scouring the internet. This challenge I haven't been able to resolve. Please help!!
I'm running a script (posted below) to grab data and export it to a csv file. My challenge is that I want to run the script daily via task manager and have it create a new csv file either daily or weekly. I'm having trouble with the scripting
creating a new csv file. How do I resolve this?
It would be beneficial to append the date to a standard file name, ex. c:\exportedcsv7-11-2014.csv; the next day it would be c:\exportedcsv7-12-2014.csv; and so on.

Here a variable is being created using the Get-Date cmdlet, if we execute $d the date will appear
$d.ToString('dd-MM-yyyy')
This converts the date into the format dd-MM-yyyy.
I took the information and tips you provided then came up with this after reading about strings.

The double quotes evaluate the variables. The single quotes do not evaluate anything they just show what's inside of them (a.k.a. literal string). The $() evaluate the expression in ('MM-dd-yyyy') before writing it.

Hi - you have will have to change the device passwords on all the base stations and then don't give them to anyone except the administrators and tell them not to save them on their computers that use the older versions of the Airport Utility - for the newer versions like the mobile apps, as soon as you enter the pasword it is saved and is visible in the advanced pane along with the network password - so if anyone gets a hold of your iPad or iPhone, they can edit the whole network - I have this same issue with my networks in the office and it is inconvenient but doable - I hope this helps

I am trying to find a way to save my image file as a jpeg and add -web or -print to the existing file name. This way I can easily see which files are lower resolution for web posting or high resolution for printing.

I helped somebody do a very similar thing about a week ago.
The trick is to use the Batch command's ability to construct a file name.
Tell the batch to append, e.g. "-x" without quotes, to the name of each saved file.
The batch runs an Action which does a save as JPEG, resize image, add logo, save as JPEG, then close document.
The output is "<document name>-x.jpg" and "<document name>-x-x.jpeg".
Then use Windows Explorer to rename "*-x-x.jpg" to "*-print.jpg".
Then rename "*-x.jpg" to "*-web.jpg".

The name construction that I used there was just an "x" appended to the document name. Use whatever you like. Also juliew subsequently referred to the method as a "double-batch" run, although it is not. One run of the batch will output two JPEGs for each input document.
I hope the disagreements in that thread don't cause too much disruption.
If you want, the Batch command itself can be recorded in another Action which would store the parameters of the batch, then you could run that Action anytime without having to set up the details of the batch each time. It would always output to one specific folder, though.

While using a drop-down menu i.e. File, edit, image, or even when saving as and choosing the file type; the list appears and I am able to highlight what i want but cannot click on anything.

This is becoming incredibly frustrating. It happens at random time and a restart of the computer is all that helps, then with out any notice it starts to do this again. Mac Book Pro i7 2.2 16 GB 1333 Ram, (2) 450GB SSD both internal to machine. At this point I am losing file because I am unable to save in the file type I need. Does anyone out there know how to solve this issue?

I haven't been unify photoshop much in the past month, but I did try your suggestion and it seemed to work for a while. Today when i went to save a document the same thing happened: click on file>save at this point I can not click on save even though it is highlighted. Tryed to use command s that brings up the save dialogue box, but when I try to change file type I again cannot select it from the drop down menu.

The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported. There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..

I need to upload a .csv file from the client machine and save it to a directory in a database sever.
I could do the uploading part. Can anyone tell me how to save the file?
Another option is save the file as a CLOB in a database column. But I'm not aware of doing that too.

See Steve Muench's Not Yet Documented Example #85 at http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html#85. While this is for 10.1.3, this is still relevant for 11g. Steve's example is for uploading to a BLOB - same thing for a CLOB. Once your data is in the database, you can use the DBMS_LOB package to write the file to a directory on the database server, if you like.
Also the Developers Guide is your friend - Chapter 9.9 in the Fusion Web User Interface Developers Guide for Oracle ADF 11g, or 19.6 in the ADF Developers Guide for Forms/4GL Developers for JDeveloper 10.1.3.

Use a PrintWriter and a FileOutputStream. Look in javax.mail.* for API's to do mailing, or open a socket connection to a pop server and post it.
Posting these kind of questions to "new to java" might be more appropriate...

BO 4.0 save as csv file format issue

We are using BO 4.0 Webi for reporting on SAP BW 7.3 system. Some of our reports have to be scheduled to bring the output in CSV file format. When I schedule the report in CSV format, the final output has data in two sets. The first set has the list of columns which I have selected in my report. Starting on the next row I get to see the second set of data with all the objects selected in the query panel including the detail objects.
We only need the data for the columns which is selected in the report, but it is bringing the dump from all the objects in the dataprovider.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the second set of data in the same csv file ?

CSV format is reserved for 'data only' dataprovider dumps. it exports the entire webi microcube (query results)
You don't get that option when going 'save as' - which preserves the report formatting - in which case you should consider .xls

How can I make an easy *.CSV file to load into database table

I have a huge excel sheet having columns item#, description and qty. The description column sometimes maybe one word name, two word name separated with space or may be , spearated name. I want to write and PL/SQl code which will read this file and load it into database table. Now the *.CSV file is either comma delimited or tab text delmited which both do not solve my issue. Is there any better solution with anyone which can prevent the manual editing to the *.CSV file and I can easily load it to table.
