I accidentally opened 2 SCAM EMAILS and now need to purge my iMac. I need VERY simple, step by step instructions, as I'm definitely not tech savvy. Apple won't help me unless I pay $20 because even my extended coverage is ended

SMTP servers are of two types. Those associated with the internet provider giving you the internet access. I.e. if you have Verizon FiOS for Fiberoptic internet your SMTP server would be something based on verizon.net. And those associated with separate web/e-mail host providers if you have a personal website or e-mail provider you chose from before you switched to the current internet access provider. If the latter, it is possible the internet access provider, in order to prevent being implicated from being the source of spam has decided to enforce port or password authentication on the SMTP server to ensure you aren't a spam bot. In that event, you'll probably have to check with them if it is better to use port 2626, 2662, or 587, and password authentication. You may have to check with both e-mail provider and internet access provider. Usually when you have separate providers doing both, your e-mail address is your username, and password on password authentication is same as checking your e-mail.

The Mac will send packets bound for the Internet to the Top-Most ACTIVE interface listed in the left side of the box at:
System Preferences > Network
If you set the 'Service Order' to have Ethernet at the top, whenever Ethernet is working, Wi-Fi will be ignored.
Set Service order is available using the gear Icon at the bottom of that box.
So all my Internet traffic is going over my Ethernet connection, even though Wi-Fi is still connected and nominally "active".

Unfamiliar installer on Mac desktop after Virtual PC installation

At some point after installing Virtual PC, a new file - iCodec3_0.exe - appeared on my Mac desktop. Am not sure when this was downloaded, it could have been something I got intentionally but couldn't or didn't want to take time to install at the time. Searches of Google, Apple Support, Version Tracker and Microsoft websites all come up empty. Does somebody recognize this filename and if so, does it have some value or risk? Otherwise, it's trash.

If you haven't already, check into also installing antivirus software and something like Firefox, which has a pop-up blocker, on your Windows system.
I'd suggest you immediately check for viruses using something like Trend Micro's free online scanner Housecall.

I used to be a babysitter and I did not allow children on the computer due to cameras and websites. I had taken the computer to apple to delete the iSight software on my Mac desktop.
It's been a couple of years now and my best friend will be out of state for a few months. I would like to skype with her once in a while, but I need to reinstall iSight.

iSight is not an actual application so you would have to restore OS X.
If your Mac is running either 10.7 Lion or v10.8 Mountain Lion, follow the instructions for restoring here > OS X Recovery

How to install software on Mac desktop or Mac Air

I paid a lot of money for this software over a year ago. Having computer issues with both my Mac Air and more recently my MAC desktop, I did not push the issue. NOW with new hard drives in both computers, I STILL CANNOT GET THIS PHTOSHOP ELEMENTS 10 AND PREMIERE ELEMENTS 10 TO install on EITHER COMPUTER. MAC Air says not enough memory and the desk top keeps giving the Exit code 7 and Error code 50. I am at my wits end. After opening an email of photos from my mom, the email app won't open. I've rebooted the iPad, I've closed the app and reopeneded it. When I open it I get the basic frame (reply button, delete, etc) but none of my accts show up.

When I first opened the email, it took forever to open. Then the pics didn't show up as pics, but as a ton of some kind of code. Since then, the app will open with just the frame, no info in the frame, no email accts or anything. Then it closes automatically after a few seconds.
I've closed the app and reopened it, rebooted the iPad, and gone online and deleted the email itself. But the app still won't open. Help, please!!

I have tried deleting the email acct from the settings and the mail app still opens only empty frames. I have a screen shot of it, but don't know how to post it here to be able to show what exactly is happening.
The mail app will open. I can see the area that usually shows the messages themselves. I can also see the area that usually displays all the accts. Both these areas are completely blank. The search bar is showing on the left hand side, and up on the top right, the download button, reply, delete and compose buttons are showing. At the very bottom left the refresh button is showing. The app sits like that for about 20 seconds and then automatically closes. None of the buttons are responsive. I cannot see any of the email accounts I have in the app (3, usually but 2 at the moment since deleting the acct that seemed to have caused this problem).
I have force-stopped the app, shut down and restarted the iPad, and rebooted the iPad. None of these have helped.

      Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
   3. Click the First Aid tab.
   4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
   5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
   6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then boot back to your internal drive and use the internal Disk Utility to repair Permissions.

A small window under spotlight says "Optimizing Your Mac." Then below it: "Performace may be impacted until completed."
How do I find out about when it finishes? And How do I know it is actually working. There is no progress bar.

I have the same problem. It's been 3 days now and no change on the warning box. The fact there's no progress bar is really annoying but I guess is a new trend now.
The Mavericks installation over Snow Leopard on an iMac 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo just went as smoothly as it gets but when I had to start my emails... Heck! It was **** on earth!
Good thing I put my old PPC G4 933Mhz up and running. No Intel, Just pure and simple Motorola RISC processor running Mac OSX 1.4 Tiger. This is a real mean machine.

How can I repair my mac mail after upgrading to OSX 10.8.2?

I've just upgraded my mac but it's messed up my mac mail.
I have 2 accounts - one hotmail and one webmail for my business account. Both accounts are working in terms of receiving emails but I cannot send from either account and have followed all the suggestions using help but still it's not working.
Checked there are no blocks from my ISP or via the firewall and both are clear.
Anyone out there had similar experiences and can suggest other ways to try and repair my mail.

thanks everyone for your suggestions. I've moved the entire default tool bar but still no icon for send appears - it isn't even in the default toolbar which is weird.
think that something has gone seriously wrong with the instal as I can now create a new email but when I hit send all the outgoing servers are grey and state offline even though when you click through into advance settings and I check the SMTP etc everything is correct - sigh.
can't believe it's taken me over 3 days now to try and do such a simple thing and with it being my work email aswell it's a right pain communicating with my photography clients.
anyway, mini rant over. thanks again I might consider just taking it off the mac for now.
