How do I reboot my mini mac?

I recently bought a mini, set it up and then went to import certain files from old pc. It imported these and set up a duplicate user file for me. I want to erase all reboot and then connect the pc and import all files. Help!

Yes, you need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How is picture quality when mini mac attached to plasma

I have an Apple TV attached to my 50" Pioneer plasma, but the main reason I got the Apple TV was to play play lists with music videos. Since Apple TV can't yet provide this, I'm interested in replacing with mini mac so I can use iTunes to play music video's continuously. But before I do, I just wanted to see if anyone out there knows how well the picture quality looks when attaching the mini mac via DVT to HDMI to plasma TV (in my case, a Pioneer 50" 1080i/720P). If anyone could give me some helpful advice or if there are any problems with this setup I'd gladly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Chris

So I tried playing music videos from a playlist continuously as you describe on my mini. It didn't work under Front Row but it did work from iTunes directly. I have heard that having the very latest version of iTunes and QuickTime installed corrects the limitation with Front Row, but I don't have them installed yet so I can't confirm that.
I am curious to know what is the limitation with AppleTV that doesn't allow this? It seems like it would work. What happens when you try? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime and iTunes on the Mac from which the AppleTV is streaming from?

  • I installed windows 7 How do i reboot to my Mac?

I can't figure out how to reboot to my MAC...windows jus keeps rebooting to windows

Hold down the Option key while rebooting.
If you installed the Boot Camp drivers inside of Windows, then you can select to reboot to OSX from the system tray icon.

  • How Cam I Reboot a Remote Mac

ARD is unable to restart a Mac on a remote network (Choose "Restart..." from Manage menu in ARD, select Mac on remote network. Result: Task fails).
Does anyone know a workaround? Unix command (e.g., reboot) perhaps?

Remote Mac was going "offline" (as reported by ARD) way too regularly. Kept thinking it had "hung" or crashed. Wanted to reboot the remote Mac without human intervention on the other end (several time zones away). That was the impetus behind my original post.
In the latest "hang" or "crash," I had someone reboot the remote Mac by hand. Press/hold the power button until shutdown, wait a minute, then press the power button momentarily to restart. Only this time, the remote Mac never came back online (or "available" as reported by ARD; kept reporting the remote Mac as "offline" instead). Began to suspect a hardware problem or worse (infection/etc.). Had the unit shipped back to me.
The "remote" Mac booted headless on my local network without a problem, but then went "offline" (as reported by ARD) within 10 minutes. Hooked up a keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Mac still boots normally, but the Network pane of System Preferences indicates that the ethernet cable is unplugged. It isn't.
99.9% sure this is a hardware issue now, specifically a bad ethernet port.
Off to the Apple Store I go for repairs.
Thanks again Tony for all the suggestions.

  • How do i reboot my 2013 mac mini to the way it was when i bought it

how do i reset or reboot my mac mini back to the way it was when i bought it

Yes. A COMMAND key may not be mapped onto your keyboard, but if it is, then it will probably be the key immediately on the left of the space bar and next to the ALT (OPTION) or CTRL key.

  • How can i rename my Mini Mac

I have a older Mac Mini, and I have been using it for a few years, it was an older Company Computer, and I have started a New Company, am I able to change the Name of the computer, and remove the existing Mac Mini ID and add and re assign the name as my current company???  Could I please reach out to the forum and ask for help, to try to get thkis completed???  Thank you

The instructions in my previous post will change the name that appears on other computers that are connected to the network in the Shared section of the finder.  This is also the name that shows up on the sign in screen under the OSX logo.
To change the account name displayed where you sign in, go to System Preferences > Accounts and unlock the pane.  Then edit the Full Name field for the account.  You can also change the Password.  Be sure to lock the pane when you are done.
For more info you can click on the (?) button (lower right corner) on the Accounts or Shared panes in System Preferences

  • HT1695 ipad mini mac address for setup

Anyone know how to get the iPad Mini MAC address when first setting up the device?  I have a MAC filtering on the WiFi and it seems I can't either skip the setup or find out what the MAC address is.  This is annooying since I know I can't be the only one who has run into this.
Why can't i find out the MAC address when setting up the logon and why am I forced to set up networking?  Can I please have one of two solutions available?

I have the same problem. Did you get an answer for that?

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able toauthorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • HT1766 How do I back up my iphone5 to my ICloud account, when my restrictions password. My restrictions pass code has my icloud a account greyed out? Can i backup to a wd external harddrive, or try to backup to a new mini-mac, i jUst purchased?

How do I back up my iphone5 to my ICloud account, whqen iI have forgot my restrictions password. My restrictions pass code has my icloud a account greyed out? Can i backup to a wd external harddrive, or try to backup to a new mini-mac, I just purchased yesterday? This is my first iMac and IPhone5, so i am kinda out on my own, and can use some pointers!! My phone is full of pictures, and will not download anything, until i store my pictures somewhere!!

If you don't remember your restrictions passcode, you will have to force the phone into recovery mode and restore it using iTunes. Do NOT restore your backup. The restrictions passcode is part of the backup.
Everything on the phone will be lost.
You can extract the photos from the camera roll the same way you would from any other digital camera. Having a restriction passcode set should not prevent that. do that before you put the phone in recovery mode and restore it.

  • How do I store my iTunes library on an external drive and can I still access it as I would if it was still all sitting on the mini mac?

The mini mac is full and I want to be able to use the 2 tb drive as storage and time machine. How do I get the content onto the external drive and access it it and hoe does new content get downloaded and stored to the drive not the mac? Also can I have 1 drive playing storeage and back up or do I need a second? Basic questions I suspect but not to me!

    1. Drag the library to the external drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and point it there.
    2. Get a second. Having the backups on the same drive as the original data won't help when that drive fails.

  • How can I control my my mac mini with my macbook air (no wifi)?

How can I control my my mac mini with my macbook air (no wifi)? Also...what is the best method (less lag) for screen sharing?
I own a mac mini Quad Server 2.0 i7 and I use it for audio production.  It's great but I need to travel with it. I was hoping some form of screen sharing could be useful using the macbook air to control the mac mini.  Therefore, I'd be using the stronger processor of the mac mini but would still be using the keyboard and trackpad from the air.
    My two problems:
    1.  I can't depend on wifi to make this happen. Wifi is not always available when travleing.  What would be the best way to configure a LAN connection?
    2.  The less lag the better for screen sharing.  Which apps are fastest?
    Thanks in advance.

Both of your devices have WiFi built in. Here is Apple Support's solution:

  • I was able to copy all my files from my Time Capsule, but that is all they are...files. How do I get my new Mac Mini to emulate my other Mac?

I was able to copy all my files from my Time Capsule, but that is all they are...files. How do I get my new Mac Mini to emulate my other Mac?

    Doggiemommie,
Copying files is not a good idea.
The "other Mac" was backed up onto Time Capsule using the Time Machine. On your new Mac you should restore the old user - rather than copy files manually.
This usually happens during the initial setup of the new computer or you can do it later using Migration Assistant.
Please note, it is possible to damage backup file on the Time Capsule when you browse it and copy files manually.
    Hope this explains.

  • How do i connect my new mac mini to the thunderbolt display

how do i connect my new mac mini to the thunderbolt displa,  It arrives tomorrow?

It has a built-in Thunderbolt cable, see here: http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
So assuming your mini has a thunderbolt port (you said it's new so I assume it does), you'd just plug the display's thunderbolt cable into the mini's Thunderbolt port.
