How do i set up a VPN to my company?

I have been a PC user and had a VPN set up to my company.  I'm not sure how to do this with a Mac.  Is there a specific process?

It depends on the VPN connection software your company is using. Sometimes you can connect to the VPN address with Safari or Firefox and any software or plugins you need will be downloaded to your Mac.
Your best bet would be to ask the company help desk or Network Administrator what you need to do for VPN access from the Mac. There may be a token generator or some other software required.
Don't be surprised if they tell you "Macs are not supported, only PCs."
Macs connect to corporate VPNs everyday, but a lot of companies won't put any time or effort into figuring out how to do it because their Mac users are a small minority, or the IT managers are closed minded to using anything other than a Microsoft product. Seriously ... I have seen this time and time again.

How do I set up a VPN on a MacBook Pro that is running Mountain Lion?

Open System Preferences and choose Network. In the left column, click the "+" to add a new interface. In the dialog that appears, name the service and choose the interface type VPN. The rest of the configuration details depends on the VPN settings of the server you are connecting to.
    Hope that helps.

  • How can I set up a VPN on my mac?

I am trying to set up a VPN cnnection so that I can access my work from my mac.  The system there is Windows based.  I have found articles about how to set up a VPN on a mac but there doesn't appear to be an area to put the static IP address or the computer IP address.  Any help would be appreciated!

Have read the printer manual, it will contain instructions for connecting it to a network, and then to your Mac. You don't identify this printer so it's difficult to be more specific.
You can also go to the printer manufacturers website and seek assistance there.

Can you help me to set this up. It feels as though it could be difficult, but I imagine it si much simpler than I think.

  • How do I set up a vpn - email account

I access my emails from work thru a VPN. I purchased a Curve 8520 cause I understood I could receive my emails on my smartphone. I set up my personal emails, which are working fine. But, I can't figure out how to set up my VPN settings for an email account on the 8520. Co-workers who have other smartphones(not Berries) and connect. Any help will really be appreciated.
    TIA

Do you know if your company has a BES? If so then you can contact your IT department and they maybe able to create an account for you on the BES and give you an activation password to activate the device. Activating it in this manner will allow you to receive your email, contacts, calendar, tasks wirelessly on the device.
If your company doesn't have a BES but uses webmail you can try setting up to receive your Inbox messages to your device. Have a look at this KB article.

  • How do I set up a vpn on mountain lion ?

Hi, is there anyway to set up a vpn on mountain lion ? I'll be traveling to China soon where internet access is limited. Is there anyway to make a free reliable vpn myself using my home connection ?

You first have to set up the VPN endpoint on your server. The only reliable way to do that is to install OS X Server and enable the VPN service.
To run a public VPN server, you also need to do the following:
    1. Give the gateway either a static external address or a dynamic DNS name. The latter must be a DNS record on a public DNS registrar, not on the server itself. Also in the latter case, you must run a background process to keep the DNS record up to date when your IP address changes.
    2. Give the VPN server a static address on the local network, and a hostname that is not in the top-level domain "local" (which is reserved for Bonjour.)
    3. Forward external UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 (for L2TP) and TCP port 1723 (for PPTP) to the corresponding ports on the VPN server.
    4. Configure any firewall in use to pass this traffic.

  • How do you set up a vpn connection using WVR200

    Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum. I have the WVR200 vpn router at home and I want to be able to vpn to it from work so I can use radmin to remote control my laptop. I have the latest firmware and quickvpn software. I've messed around with it for a couple of days now and I'm surpriesed that it's this difficult to set up. I also havn't found very many documents regarding this router and the vpn setup process. Please help if you can.

Thanks for the reply! I have already read this document but maybe someone can help clear my understanding. I have a dsl wireless router/modem which is connected to my WVR200. The IP of the WVR200 is 192.168.1.1 and the IP of the DSL router/modem is 192.168.2.1. When I enter in the WAN IP(Server IP) into quick VPN I am getting confused as to which IP I should enter. I would think that either would work becasue they are connected to each other.
Also, do you have to set up a tunnel on the wvr200 web interface in order for it to work? In the instructions above it just says to create a vpn account and then click the vpn summary tab and it will show the tunnel information, but how can it, if you never even created one and it doesn't give the insructions too?

  • How can i set up a VPN?

I have a g3 ibook and i take it places... i want to be able to access all my files and music from my g4 digital audio powermac i guess that VPN is the way to go, how do i go about setting this up?

Mac OS X does not have it's own VPN server or client. Mac OS X server does but I don't think you have that. So you will need to download a third party program, you can search google for your own or use,
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/networking_security/almostvpn.html
I used to use it before I got Mac Server.

The most direct way is to configure VPN access with your Internet router, assuming it has a built-in VPN feature. What are you using for a router? If your router doesn't have VPN, another option (albeit less secure) is to set up port forwarding or NAT.
That's the networking side of things. What do you want your editors to be able to do from home with FCSvr? The extremely limited bandwidth will obviously significantly limit what is practical when using FCSvr via a typical residential broadband connection.

  • I set up the VPN, so how do access server at work?

I am a complete novice when it comes to VPNs.  I was given permission to work from home and was told I had to set up a VPN to access shared documents saved on the server.  I have a PC at work and a MacBook Pro at home, and my work IT department had no idea on how to set up the VPN on the Mac and won't give me any support.  (I tried and failed to get the VPN set up on our desktop PC at home and the work IT department claimed it was a problem with my broadband server).  I did my research, got the VPN set up on the Mac, and it shows that I'm connected.  I'm at a standstill.  What do I do now?    I apologize because I can't remember which version of the OS I have, but I bought the Mac almost a year ago, if that's any help.
    I thank you in advance.

My question is even more basic than this.  I can see on the network applications screen that I am connected, so where do I go from there?  I don't know the security protocol.
At this time you are not providing enough information to get any informed help. Go back to IT and ask for the settings for the VPN on a PC, post them here, we'll translate them to Macspeak. Are you trying to access the desktop of the office machine or just the file storage areas on the server?
PS: Your IT department is hopeless.

  • I do not see where to enter IP addresses in the Open VPN setup. Also, how can I set it up so that I can choose different servers in the same way as I can currently choose them with my VPN app but for PPTP?

I think I have it working on my iPhone 5. But, I do not see how I can control the exit point that I would like for the VPN. Are all the exit points shown in the VPN setting now going to work with Open VPN, or do they remain PPTP? If I am reading correctly, they look like they remain PPTP. If I cannot control the exit point for open VPN, which exit point is the default in the profile you provided me?I note that Open VPN Connect does not work with any of the new 64 bit devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the new iPad MIni. Is there any chance that you guys will come up with an update for your app so that open VPN can be made to work on all iOS devices? That would be nice, particularly if the Open VPN Connect app does not give me a choice of exit points. Thanks,

Just a quick note to tell you that Open VPN has updated their app so that it is compatible with 64 bit ARM devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the iPad Mini Retina. That does not resolve the problem of how to easily choose among the various possibilities for the exit server. We need to find an easy way to choose.

Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.
I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.
Here are a few suggestions for restoring the old design. I hope you’ll find one that works for you:
*Use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] to bring back the old design. Learn more here: [[How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox]]
