How do i sign out of mac mail?
I may be selling my computer soon. I was wondering if thier is a way to delete everything in the mail application. Or maybe a way to just sign out. -Thanks!
If you will call Apple and give them your serial number, they should be able to send you install disks; or..... since you are running 10.6.8, I can assume that your purchased Snow Leopard as a retail disk, in that case, you can simply buy another.
You do need an install disk to erase your hard drive and then reinstall the system and you really do not want to have another person have access to your private information. That could have some very unpleasant consequences.

I haven't seen any discussion on this in recent posts. Only from a couple years back. But is it still really the case that the only way to keep my Mac Mail from being public is to have multiple user accounts and then sign out of my user account each time I leave the computer to ensure that no one else looks at my mail?
Right now, we have basically one user account. And we don't sign in or out of it. I use Facebook? I sign in and then sign out and go on my merry way. Someone else comes along and wants to use their gmail? Same thing.
But this becomes a major hassle if I want to use Mac Mail. We actually have to have multiple user accounts just to keep our mac mail private from one another? And then each of us has to be signing in and out from those user accounts constantly just to use the computer? Seems like a humongous hassle and a major reason to not bother with Mac Mail. Maybe useful for folks who have a computer that they and only they use. But for those of us who actually have computers that are shared, that's a big-time deal-breaker.Howdy jumpcuts,
The best way to keep information such as mail private between multiple users of a computer is to have a separate user account for each user. This allows each user to maintain their settings and preferences for all applications such as Mail, web browsers used for FaceBook, etc. See this article for information on how to set up new user accounts -
OS X Yosemite: Set up users on your Mac
An alternative would be to create a Guest User account and use a web browser to access email accounts. Guest account settings are not saved between logins. See that same article.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

How do I sign out of my mail account?
I am using an IPad2. When I log in to my yahoo email account through "Mail". I do not see where I can sign out. Can you help?
You can turn the email account off, but there is not an option to log out. This is not webmail access using a browser. This is accessing the account with an email client and the same does not apply.

How can i sign out of my hotmail in mail?
I´ve signed in with my hotmail in mail. Every time i open the program mail, my inbox comes up. How can i sign out, so other people cant read my mails, or so other people can check their mail? Anyone with the same problem? Please help, I´ve just bought my first mac, so I´m a bit helpless. Thanks
You can't "sign out." That's not how desktop email clients work.
Secure it other ways:

How do I sign out of my gmail account from my imac
Hello, I'm new to apple imac. How do I sign out/logg off out of my gmail e-mail account so that any & everyone who sits at me computer can open the mail app and read all of my e-mails?
I don't think you can log out of Mail, it's either launched and available or it isn't.
What I was suggesting is creating a totally separate Mac user account/accounts for other users of your Mac. When you use it you log in as you and have access to all your files/folders/emails/photos/music, etc. When you're done you log out of your account on the Mac from the Apple Menu, top left of the screen (this will prevent access to all your files by someone else). When someone else might want to use the computer they log in to their account or you may create a generic account for all other casual users. The instructions above explains how to create this secondary account on your Mac.
If you wish, you can also set the screen to require your password when it wakes up, which would also stop other people having access to your Mac once the screen saver has kicked in: System Preferences>Security & Privacy>General tab.
System Preference can be found under the Apple menu (top left), on the Dock (normally) or in the Applications folder. -
Can I set up two iCloud accounts on my IPAD3 at the same time? If not how do you sign out of one to sign in to another?
Welcome to the Apple community.
You can add more than one account to your iPad, but you can only have one primary account. Secondary accounts which you can add at settings> mail, contacts, calendars do not have all the features of a primary account such as photo stream. -
How can I sign out of cloud and sign in as another ID?
My Main Mac and Iphone are both under my iTunes ID but my MacAir would only let me use my MobileMe ID - how can I sign out on my Air, and sign in under the iTunes ID?
You should have done it the other way arround. You should have started with signing out, before you changed your email. I would suggest to follow these steps...
1. change your email address back to the old one
2. delete your iCloud account from all your devices (especially turn off "Find My iPhone")
3. change your email to your new email address aigain
4. add your iCloud account again -
How can i sign out from ichat ??
how can i sign out from the ichat ??
HI,
In all versions of iChat to to the ichat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and disable the "Enable this Account" tick box on the accounts you don't want to login (or remain logged in)
Alternatively you can go to iChat Menu > Accounts any ticked items in this List are Logged in.
Selecting them will log them out.
In the Preferences > Accounts you can highlight any account in the List and use the Minus button at the bottom to delete it (accept for the Bonjour one which is permanent).

How do I sign out in Panther...
and stay signed out?
I work as a lab assistant in my uni's Mac Lab. Often when there's not a project due the next day, there's not too many people here. I sometimes pass the time with iChat. When I sat down tonight, I opened iChat 2.1 and changed status to available. I'm online now without needing to input my password or even username. How do I sign out of this when I leave so that no one can sign back on and pretend to be me? I can't seem to find a preference to turn off this auto-login.
I cleared my password out of the preferences, but it signs in anyway and puts it back. I made sure "remember my password" was not checked the last time I was presented with the password dialog so I don't know what's up.How do I sign out of this when I leave so that no one can sign back on and pretend to be me?
You need to delete your iChat password from your "Keychain".
If you need help, search
b Finder > Help > Mac Help
for the word "keychain" (without the quotation marks.) -
